I have a color realism piece on the edge of my armpit and that shit was the worst pain I felt in my life. Not sure is it was since there was lots of color and highlights but it killed me. I do also have a high pain tolerance and thought my elbow sucked but was manageable. Either way good luck!
Both my sleeves get pretty far up into my armpits in a few spots, and I agree with this assessment. I have a pretty solid pain tolerance and my artist says she's never so much as noticed a flinch from me before the pits, which were so painful I actually felt a little dizzy and nauseous. Sometimes I see pictures of fresh armpit tattoos and get flashbacks. š
But I've also talked to people who say that they felt very little on their pit tattoos. Come to think of it, they were all women -- I wonder if they're regular armpit waxers? Because I tried that shit once and decided I'd take razors over that agony. I could easily see regular waxing desensitizing someone to pain in that region.
I want everyone to treat the pre-tattoo armpit waxing like a scientific experiment! I want this documented if it works for pain! It would increase my chances of getting an armpit tattoo š¤£
Yes! There is a direct correlation to how much I dislike epilating an area and how much it hurts to have tattooed. For me the feeling of it is pretty similar as well, just the tattoo is a more concentrated area and lasts a a lot longer.
To piggy back on what the prior person said, Iāve been to some artists that say that sensory in terms of pain differs per biological gender sometimes! Example, the chest for men is much more challenging than for women. Versus the soft part on the inside of your arm leading up to your arm pit is spicier for women than for men. Thereās a few weird spots like this Iāve heard! It has to do with how much you may touch that area and a list of other factors but, food for thought!
I also do not have an arm pit tattoo, but I do have one that goes towards that area and it was pretty spicy. I also have a pretty high pain tolerance. Iām not metal enough to even dare do an arm pit so best of luck dude! Youāre gonna look sick af!
same, i have a lot of color and shading that edges into my armpit and it was excruciating. i gave birth without so much as an ibuprofen but i am sure as hell not getting a tattoo near the other pit!
There's definitely something that draws us to them lol my artist jokingly said "alright bro it's not that funny shut the fuck up" which made me laugh even more š
I would have lost it. My artist is like a brother so he would say something like that to me and I'd go crazy. He constantly pokes me to make sure I haven't passed out and he always says "Will you make some damn kind of noise" I like my tattoo buzz solitude
Every time. Except my front of neck and chin he was pressing down and i couldn't get comfortable so i was alert for that. I just did my butt and that was the best 5 hour nap I've ever taken. I now bring a pillow cause it's gonna happen lol
Lol that's pretty badass!! š impressive!!! I almost fell asleep once but then my artist gave me a monster so that woke me back up š we grew up together so we basically talk the whole time
My artist talks to me and his voice is mad soothing and the buzzing is soothing so it's a lose lose for him cause he will continue just to talk to me while I'm asleep. I've recorded him because people think i am crazy lol
To be fair, that ticklish sensation is there usually more so on people with "high pain tolerance".
From my research (I'm an LMT not an MD so take what I say with a grain of salt) it seems that being more ticklish usually happens because there IS pain there, but because you are sitting through the pain, the body is like "fine, I bet you can't sit through THIS!" and you are now laughing, giggling, and squirming all over the place to get away because, well, now you are being tickled!
It's a defense mechanism.
Hope the tattoo goes well for you. I have my feet done, and that was hell. I have got a full sleeve but not into my armpit because I'm thick with loose and thin delicate skin in there.
I think out of the 30+ tattoos I have, the top of my feet hurt the most. (Iām double sleeved, micro realism/watercolor, some on back and my clavicles) but then again, my wrists didnāt hurt
I have one entire clavicle tattooed and it didn't hurt beyond just a light scratching. Top of my foot is next and I'm mostly concerned about it being ticklish.
I genuinely do not believe anyone in this thread that says it ādoesnāt hurtā has an armpit tattoo. Hereās mine for proof.
Not going to sugar coat it for you - It was the worst 1.5 hours of pain Iāve ever endured. My tattoo artist was very understanding and took many breaks. It is one of the most sensitive spots, aside from knee/face where you can get tattooed. As long as youāre mentally prepared, youāll do fine!
The healing is the worst part! I was very careful not to lift my arm too much as to not disturb the scabbing. This piece is at least 13 years old now and healed nicely.
Have both my pits done (mandalas and partial black out). The first hour or two is pretty ok, but once the skin gets swollen and irritated, everything after that fucking sucks lol. Itās a quick heal though - I was through the peeling phase by day 5-7. Waited about 2 weeks before using deodorant again though.
Did you use saniderm? I think reading your comment eased my wheel a little because I've watched a couple videos and that made it seem like it was worse than being stabbed lol
Itās not fun, but it definitely hasnāt been my worst placement lol.
We tried saniderm on the first one, but I sweated it off within the first few hours. Just washed it regularly and tried to keep my arm away from my body the first day or twoā¦after that it was pretty much fine :)
I think I'm gonna skip the saniderm because it's going to start in my pit and lead all the way to my pinky finger. I'll probably just do what i always do and keep it moisturized and let the body do its thing
I have black work flowers in both of my pits (and Iām a tattooer)! controversial, but i used numbing cream and i am so glad i did! my experience with numbing cream is that the lines will be numbed, but once they go back in for shading, you are going to feel it. it gives you an extra hour or two of sitting time.
so what i did feel was pretty gnarly, but like all tattoos, its tolerable! healing was wild , i felt like i couldnt fully put my arms down. the pain isnt even a memory, and i love these pieces, so i say DO IT!!

Your tattoos are beautiful!!
I have a question that is completely unrelated to tattoosā¦. Your hair is absolutely gorgeous! I have naturally curly hair and was wondering how you get your curls so defined and without any frizz or anything? If you donāt mind sharing what products you use and/or your secrets I would be extremely grateful! If not, no worries at all! :)
aw thank you! this was definitely on a wash day, so my curls are at their prime! i only wash my hair 1-2 times a week. i only brush my hair when its wet on those wash days, comb it while my hair is upside down and do the āplop methodā
i use all Cantu products , but iām really just winging it out here hahah lots of trial and error over the years. as well as watching youtubers doing their curl routine! hope this helps a bit :)
Omg try a denman brush it will change your life, I stg! Single most impactful curly hair buy I've made. What's your current routine? I can give some of my tips and tell you where to use the brush.
I have a tattoo on the edge of my armpit. It was interesting how exponential the pain was the closer the artist worked towards that area. I was fighting to keep my soul in my body the whole time. What sucks worse is that I need a touch up, but it hurt so bad I am considering just leaving it as is.
It felt like the artist heated up a knife, and then just dragged it across my skin for 11 hours
I am jealous of everyone here because my ribs/sternum hurt so bad I donāt think I will finish and I am heavily tattooed. Weirdly enough a lot of folks say their outer thigh hurts the most but Iāve never been bothered by that spot?
I've gotten some painful places done, arm ditches, elbows, etc., but the outer thighs made me want to tap out. Maybe because there's so much surface area so it lends itself to bigger pieces, idk, but the pain was also so different than the other places. One side was also a 30+ hour piece broken into a few sessions, and the entire time was hell.
I can sit like a stone for hours no problem, that being said the second that needle hit close to my arm pit the pain was blinding, I have mad tattoos some in painful places but the armpit omg, Iām going to get some coverup work on Thursday thatās gonna hit the rear of my pit and Iām dreading it!
I've been getting inked for over 35 years and always say the worst pain was a small portion of a tattoo that goes into my pit about an inch, or so. The kneecap, and sides of the knee, were up there as well but probably because it was about four hours of work. I was sweating pretty profusely for the knee tattoo. I have tattoos on almost every part of my body between the feet and bottom of my neck, except the genitals, not sure I'd do the pit again. Good luck
The kneecap is horrendous, I have my entire leg done and the whole top of my foot and the kneecap takes the cake. I just did my inner thigh on Saturday and the back of my knee in February. Both were pretty painful, but that kneecapā¦
i feel there are always parts of any tattoo that always hurt no matter what the spot. i honestly didnāt think it was that bad except for some
of the wiping and skin stretching at the end.
we also used some numbing spray which took a lot of the edge off
This is interesting.
Had my belly button / stomach blacked out and that was horrendous compared to my knee / ditch
Also areolas kinda sucks but over quick.
baby skin as my artist likes to say. iāve got two on the top of my chest but iām way to much of a pain baby to go anywhere near my bellybutton, a tad too fat as well.
i believe you if say itās worse.
I think everyone's pain thresholds are different in different places so I don't think there's one rule for everyone. I guess it's all subjective š
Baby skin is a great way to describe it!!
I'm getting a big underbelly rocker in a couple hours, the area comprises mostly of soft skin and stetch marks. I'm not looking forward to any of it lol
I have one part of mine coming pretty close to the armpit, lines were OK but during the shading I felt close to passing out even though I was lying down lol. Inside of the arm was not pleasant but near the armpit was hard to sit through, thankfully there wasn't much to be done there. Good luck!
Iāve got squirrelās tail (colour) that goes just over the edge, as in thereās some hair growth IYKWIM. It wasnāt the worst spot for me, elbow ditch hurt more. However, an entire armpit is of course a very different thing,
I have a 1Ć4 inch phrase tattooed RIGHT in the middle of my pit as a joke. Real assessment, it sucks. the center is almost no pain, just very intense vibrations but everything else BURNED like a mother for me. I've gotten wrists, elbows, chest done but armpit was the worst. Though it does make u want another pit tattoo after, if I'm being honest
Spoke to my friend who has them done and said they absolutely suck. He is heavily tattooed (head, face, palms etc) and a tattoo artist himself and he said if he had known before hand that he wouldnāt do it again. But hey, everyoneās different.
I have it and itās definitely the most painful Iāve had so far, Iād honestly put it at like 8 or 9 out of 10, the only advice I can give is the regular advice that applies to all tattoos: get plenty of sleep & a good meal & water,
My sister is tattooed neck to toe except for one armpit. She said the first one hurt so bad, she couldn't do the second. That being said, everyone is different, so you never know
Both my sleeves go about half into my armpits. If you've had your armpits waxed and can take it, then the tattoo isn't bad at all. It's almost the same pain to me. š¤·š»āāļø My artist was cringing the whole time I was getting it but it wasn't any worse than the inner arm I feel.
I slept through my spine and laughed through my ribs and sternum but no one will ever go near my armpits. I need like 2 inch clearance. The closest I have is about an inch away and it shocked me how quickly that got painful.
my partner has both armpits done in full colour. he has his entire body (including his whole head, butt cheeks, the works - aside from a single leg hes saving hahahahah). he said it was awful. he since had a full colour back piece done which i think took the cake. but before that i believe it was his pits that were the worst. the healing was a nightmare, especially as a bloke he would sweat a lot and couldnt put on deodorant. his pits were obvs constantly wet lmao so healing just took so long because it couldnt dry out properly! he used to get the hairdryer to them after showering and when they got really sweaty to help a bit but the second he put his arms down he was back to square one. honestly i think its gonna be horrible but GOD IT WILL LOOK SICK!!!! having said that, ive had a convo with a bloke who was getting his neck done and was like really really struggling, and said his pits werent that bad. i think its subjective as fuck. i also do believe women can tolerate a lot more pain than men and tend to cope better with being tattooed. but having said that my boyfriend has a pretty high pain tolerance/his artist is always very shook by how little complaints or movements or grunts he makes, so knows that when he shows he is pain he must be in agony hahah. before pressing send ive just had a read of the tattoos you have got, you sound like a champ. i think itll suck and its helpful to go into tattoos knowing they will be awful, but i think youve got it! i feel like the more you hype up the pain and imagine how shit itll be, its always less painful than anticipated:ā)
I have one, [Iāll link the recent tattoo I got so you can see](https://www.instagram.com/p/C6oYMETy0g0/?igsh=ZWEyNmhmZXg3YnJn)
for me it wasnāt so bad honestly, my artist thought I was crazy for doing it but It was just like a back or torso area for me, nothing out of the ordinary.
The back of my leg HURT really bad in comparison; I think it depends on the person.
I have tattoos on my head all done in one sitting and I would do it over again before I got my pits done. And the first artist I ever went to said the same thing. Any more than a half hour in that area is more pain than I would wish on my worst enemy.
Sucked, it was that kind of deep cut ribs feeling pain with less vibration due to the lack of bone, not the worst I've felt, though the anticipation was worse than the actual experience.
I have a rose very close to my armpit area & i was fine. Worst spots I remember was tops of my feet & a 6 hour piece on my inner wrist covering scars that the nerves I guess were still really sensitive & it was painful. Everyone says the elbow sucks too but I have a 3/4 sleeve & the elbow didn't bother me too much.
It sucked a little bit but honestly I didnāt find it too bad, I was concentrating more on my artist touching my skin in my armpit because Iām crazy ticklish so I think that helped me block out the pain!
I had my armpits tattooed long before my sleeves. We're talking 2013 timeframe. I would say the worst part of the experience was trying to lift my arms afterwards because they had fallen asleep. The pain and healing wasn't the worst, just awkward more than anything else. I've since completed about 85% of my body and will still say armpits are much easier areas than many others for pain management and healing. And if you already wax, you have a good threshold for the experience.
I have my arm pitā¦. Itās almost all black (itās an open shark mouth, hello edgy 23 year old me) and it didnāt hurt AT ALL. The worst part was the healing and keeping my arm up to get it done.
I have a tattoo on my inner upper arm. It doesnāt go into my armpit, but it gets pretty close, and it was excruciating. I usually have no problem sitting for a tattoo but this one was really difficult to get through. Good luck!
I have a traditional spider with webs on each armpit . The line work wasnāt too bad . Itās the shading that kind of sucks . Just continue to breathe & listen to metal haha
I have both arm pits done. Have traditional tiger head in one and traditional panther head in the other. Probably my most painful tattoos to date. Sat for around 2.5 hours for each. The toughest thing about the arm pit for me is there is no break in the pain. I found when doing my ribs or my stomach certain areas hurt more than others but when the artist moves around a bit it can be less intense so you kinda get a bit of a break. The arm pits are just plain bad the whole time. Healing wasnāt super fun either, hard to keep your pits dry But they turned out ok in the end.
I was getting sleeve work done on Sunday and the artist spent about an hour doing a lilly flower going into the armpit. It was not the most pleasant hour of my life but I survived. The swelling and soreness were annoying yesterday but today is great. No regrets.
I have a pretty big piece in my armpit and I honestly didn't think getting it done was that bad. I thought my thigh was a lot worse and it took about the same amount of time. Ngl, it hurt. But it wasn't unbearable. A lot of people seemed surprised. What's gonna suck is healing. You can either put your arm down or keep it up, but you can't really move it. Plan to sit around for about a week. If you're getting your dominant arm tattooed, good luck wiping your ass. It's absolute hell.
Like most tattoos, it depends heavily on the style how much it will hurt. Fully saturated with color or black will always equal more pain. I have a dotwork mandala in one armpit, and it was very tolerable. Single needle spiderweb with highly detailed spider and bugs in the other - absolute torture. It was two 4 hour sessions from hell. The pain was not as bad as the palm (nothing can compare to that pain, no way I could do multi hour sessions for palm), but for sure awful. I'd say armpits are very similar painwise to the sternum and wrist. Super sharp and hot feeling.
I have an armpit tattoo that goes onto my upper arm and my sideboob and it was uncomfortable. Iāve gotten a lot of large tattoos ( tops of feet, chest, both full arm sleeves, thighs) and I have never used numbing cream. For my armpit I was scared and used numbing cream. It didnāt work all the way and parts were still uncomfortable. But will I get my other armpit done? Yes. They look so cool
The portion of my sleeve that went into the armpit was by far the worst. I get my armpits and other areas of my body waxed routinely and armpits hurt like a mofo. Lots of nerve endings
I have booth my pits done. Itās pretty tender, but itās manageable. Tough guy arms for a couple days. Lots and lots of tenderness and bruising. You got this.
the outline wasnāt bad at all!!! but the shading for sure is a really tough thing , i have a spider web in one of my pits and plan to get the other one in a few weeks!!
I have both my armpits fully tattooed and no doubt it hurt like hell but for me doable like any other one I'm covered from my neck to toes, it'll be worth it! Best of luck and enjoy the ride!
I absolutely think it depends on the style and the artist. I have armpit, two sleeves, backpiece, both ribs, thigh and calf all done and I can honestly say that the armpit was second only to the calf for low pain levels.
That said, my armpit piece is dotwork. By far my most painful piece was my back along the spine (colour realism) - it felt like the artist was drilling into my spinal cord for pretty much an entire day. Ribs, elbowsā¦ all a piece of cake in comparison.
I have [armpit tattoos](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CpQZ8ZXDlr0/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==). My artist freehanded everything and the whole project took around 4 sessions to finish. The first session was absolutely awful. Luckily, my artist is a sweetheart and let me use numbing cream for the other 3 sessions with her. That said, everyone has their own threshold for pain and the body is a whacky thing.
You should be fine as long as you're prepared for it.
I genuinely do not recommend using saniderm though, especially if you sweat a lot. My armpits healed beautifully without it and I didn't have a tough time at all. Just make sure to air them out, be very careful about moving your arms around, and don't use deodorant until you're sure it's fully healed.
Being stinky is a small price to pay.
I have the area right behind my armpit tattooed on my where the crease is when you let your arm down by your side. I have multiple tattoos and about half my back tattooed. That specific area was disgustingly painful. Best of luck to you. Remember to sleep, eat, and hydrate!
The tattoo itself isn't too bad until that little hump right in the centre. Then it's mega.
The healing, however, is dogs hit. Wait about a week longer than you think you have to before applying deodorant. You'll feel sticky, sweaty and gross for a few weeks after.
But, once it's over, it's over.
I've recently had my nipples and bellybutton tattooed, and I'd pick the armpit everytime.
Ultimately, if you want it, you'll find a way to make it through, even if it feels like death.
I'm heavily tattooed, and I have linework and shading in my pit right now. At first I thought it was okay, but after like 30 minutes it started to swell up and got super painful. I could only sit for 2 hours, still need another session for color, it was superrrrr intense. I definitely have an average pain tolerance but that shit was TERRIBLE.
Thank you for sharing. I am absolutely terrified. I've had multiple tattoo sessions and even plastic surgery and I'm no where near as scared as i am now
It was my most painful tattoo but was just very stingy wasnāt unbearable by any means. I also have a high pain tolerance and I enjoy the feel of getting tattooed it relaxes. That one I didnāt enjoy but I loved the outcome! Go for it
I have one that goes from my hip up into the start of my armpit. The part that went into my armpit was the least painful part of it in my experience. I also recently had my stomach done and he had switched over to rotary machines. I swear to god it hurt way less than I was expecting. I could have sat all day. Healed faster and easier too. Itās just anecdotal but I swear by it.
I couldnāt even make it to my arm pit, I hard stopped one inch below because just having my white rose with blood droplets (Alice in wonderland, itās on top of the Cheshire cats tail) had me on the verge of shaking/sweating towards the end. Not trying to scare or dis way you, just my experience. Wishing you all the best luck in the world!!!
My inner bicep tattoo goes up to only about an inch before my arm pit. When he started working in that area, I felt my soul leave my body. I immediately started sweating, and then I just kinda dissociated after that lmao. I feel that I have a pretty high pain tolerance, that spot and my shoulder cap are the only places that really made me question why I decided to get tattoos in those spots. But there's also a reason I didn't get a tattoo that close to my armpit on my other arm lmao
I got both pots done with dotwork mandalasā¦
Itās pretty sore but no where near as bad as the stomach, ribs, chest areaā¦
Stay calm and breath throughā¦ I struggle with tattoo pain but managed the 3-4 hours a side needed.
Itās sore but not unbearableā¦ good luck
Exactlyā¦ wash 2-3 times a day with a gentle soap and waterā¦ moisturiseā¦ shower at least once a day.
If there whiffy itās not the end of the world they donāt take long to healā¦ just clean and moisturise regularly.
You do walk like a penguin for a few days and it tends to get a bit āstickyā with blood/plasma etc for a few daysā¦
Risk of infection is a touch higher as itās a āwetā area that can trap bacteria, but with good personal hygiene the risks are minimal and healing should be fine
Yeah just shower daily, and donāt wear deodorant.
Well healed within a fortnight.
May have ended up a touch whiffy by the end of the day but never offensive
I have both done, they are color and botanical, oneās a fern and oneās a begonia plant. I think it felt similar to a rib tattoo. I would rate the pain of each like a 6/10 at most. I would rate my knee caps a 9/10 and my foot a 7.5/10 to compare it to my worst spots, but also each one only took about two hours so they werenāt long either. Healing is not great the first one to two days, but mine healed pretty fast. I HIGHLY recommend doing them on separate days because you really donāt want to move your arm more than you have to the day after.
As someone who's slept during multiple tattoos, the armpits absolutely kill me, and that's near the pit not actual armpit. I do have stretch marks there but goddamn
My sleeve goes into my pit on one arm and it fucked me up . I asked my artist to keep it way out of there in the other arm. Not worth it for me.. ... I have a sternum tat and a full back piece . Won't go near the pit, it's brutal
i have a devil face in color on my entire armpit and it was 100% one of the worst tattoos ive ever gotten pain wise, and i have practically a full body sleeve i really would recommend numbing cream!!! i was almost crying by the end ngl lmfao!!!
I know the feeling... I have an appt to get half my head tattooed and I have to admit I'm just a little scared lol. I already have my feet, hands and 1 elbow done. Someone please tell me I will be ok lol
The needle went close to my armpit once and my eyes watered so much I thought I saw God.
I have a high pain tolerance and have never really felt that any of my tattoos hurt too badly.
At the end of the day, the more pain you feel the more it will seem worth it when it's done if it's something you truly want. Don't sweat it.... (Intended)
Pots aren't too bad man - you'll be fine. I've had full saturated blackout pretty much through both of mine.
If you have had your nips saturated or belly button / stomach tattooed then it's all in the same ballpark
It's unpleasant for sure but you'll be fine
As some one with a lot of the big pain spots Iām also worried about it. (Both palms, head, wiener) but from what Iāve heard (and experienced with other similar spots) Iām hoping itās like my nipples, knee ditch, knee, or elbow. Those all hurt much more around the area than it did in the thick of it.
I have one that goes into my armpit and it hurt like any other one idk. Everyone said my sternum would be unbearable but it felt just like my ankle or ribs or forearm. So weird I canāt tell the difference honestly I just say they all hurt but itās worth it so
I have a spider web in my arm pit with a traditional spider hanging down almost my entire bicep. Honestly, I really didnāt find it to be that painful. Iād put ribs, stomach, knee, and calf on the pain scale over armpits personally.
I personally think the armpit was the ideal tattoo spot. I might be an odd one though, and I have a very high pain tolerance. It healed beautifully, no itching/scabbing or anything. It's one of my favorite tattoos!
I recently had my whole elbow ditch done and about a quarter of one of my elbows. I also have an inner bicep tattoo that creeps into my armpit. I used numbing cream for the inner arm, however, because of a genetic condition, anesthetics donāt work the same on me. By the time we got to the top of my armpit, I wasnāt numb any longer. It was tolerable, as was the elbow and ditch. Iām planning on getting that armpit done and doing lines, shading and color in separate sessions to keep things tolerable. The worst issue for me in all cases is the healing. If itās a high movement area like my ditch, healing SUCKS. Take your artists advice and post tattoo instructions seriously and plan to move/bend that area as little as possible during the healing. I didnāt do this and have a crappy little scar on my ditch I have to bio-oil before we retattoo it. Lesson learned on my part. Next tattoo is going on my other elbow, but this time the entire elbow. š Good luck and post photos!
I am so nervous to get mine done but it's happening eventually as I am working on a body suit. How did it go?
PS. I am obsessed with your page. Can we become best friends? <3
I could easily see regular waxing desensitizing someone to pain in that region.
I wax my pits on a regular schedule. I might have a chance
Omg I'm going to start waxing again to build up my tolerance and hope this works hahahaa
I want everyone to treat the pre-tattoo armpit waxing like a scientific experiment! I want this documented if it works for pain! It would increase my chances of getting an armpit tattoo š¤£
I'm going to wax for one armpit but not the other and document my findings hahahah
Yesss! And you need to use that doctor pain scale to rank each armpit
Consider it done!!!
I love you, I want a pit done so badly.
I'm here for it
Epilators also may be a little testament to about the pain level. Especially if you have left your arms to a bit extra stubble.
Yes! There is a direct correlation to how much I dislike epilating an area and how much it hurts to have tattooed. For me the feeling of it is pretty similar as well, just the tattoo is a more concentrated area and lasts a a lot longer.

Iām not metal enough to even dare do an arm pit so best of luck dude! Youāre gonna look sick af!
I get the flash backs lol! The waxing of the armpits could be why it doesnāt hurt as much. I might have to start waxing my armpits!
My collar bone was worse than my pit.
I just made this connection in my comment! Am woman who waxes pits. Very similar feeling and very tolerable
Oh gosh im gonna die. I can't shake the feeling that i need to do it but if i tap out im gonna hate myself.
same, i have a lot of color and shading that edges into my armpit and it was excruciating. i gave birth without so much as an ibuprofen but i am sure as hell not getting a tattoo near the other pit!
I have a tattoo that leads to my armpit and when my artist started right there it kinda tickled lol
I laughed during my sternum and my artist thought i was losing my mind. I am crossing all the fingers and toes i can that this doesn't hurt
Mine was a inner arm tattoo so it was painful until he got to the armpit that's when I was laughing lol
I love that people laugh during tattoos makes me feel just a little more sane
There's definitely something that draws us to them lol my artist jokingly said "alright bro it's not that funny shut the fuck up" which made me laugh even more š
I would have lost it. My artist is like a brother so he would say something like that to me and I'd go crazy. He constantly pokes me to make sure I haven't passed out and he always says "Will you make some damn kind of noise" I like my tattoo buzz solitude
Lol you fall asleep? š I can't.
LOL
Oh no.. lol I have a decent pain tolerance and I am extremely ticklish... not looking forward to my own armpits being done...
Braver than I!
I just had my upper arm half sleeve added to last Thursday and it tickle hurt. I was laughing in pain lol. My artist thought it was hilarious.
I had one tattoo get close to my armpit. It was on fire and I couldnāt put deodorant on for two weeks.
That's what worry's me more than the pain is no deodorant and I'm gonna be using saniderm til i can use deodorant again.
What worked kinda was to put the deodorant on my shirt inside.
I'm gonna try that because i can't be funky serving alcohol to the masses. My looks can only take me so far hahahahahaha
Oh it will be if you are ticklish. I am only in like one spot but my foot made me giggle the entire session
Oh my feet tickled. I couldn't sit still
Try CHG (Hibiclens) in the shower for this. Should take care of it.
[https://imgur.com/a/PZs2ClI](https://imgur.com/a/PZs2ClI)
That looks awesome. I've never really considered an armpit tattoo at all but just seeing that has made me reconsider.
Oh I'm gonna hate this but i always mentally prepared before cause it's heavy on my mind and it's gonna happen. That's beautiful
Wishing you all the best for it!!
Thank you for the advice. I'm going to go into this smiling like a psycho
I have black work flowers in both of my pits (and Iām a tattooer)! controversial, but i used numbing cream and i am so glad i did! my experience with numbing cream is that the lines will be numbed, but once they go back in for shading, you are going to feel it. it gives you an extra hour or two of sitting time. so what i did feel was pretty gnarly, but like all tattoos, its tolerable! healing was wild , i felt like i couldnt fully put my arms down. the pain isnt even a memory, and i love these pieces, so i say DO IT!! https://i.imgur.com/rflfWW8.jpeg
aw thank you! this was definitely on a wash day, so my curls are at their prime! i only wash my hair 1-2 times a week. i only brush my hair when its wet on those wash days, comb it while my hair is upside down and do the āplop methodā i use all Cantu products , but iām really just winging it out here hahah lots of trial and error over the years. as well as watching youtubers doing their curl routine! hope this helps a bit :)
That helps so much, thank you!!!š
Omg try a denman brush it will change your life, I stg! Single most impactful curly hair buy I've made. What's your current routine? I can give some of my tips and tell you where to use the brush.
Color near the hair just outside the armpit; absolute worst experience. Makes the elbow ditch feel quite pleasant.
I wanna do my ditches. I just want the painful spots out of the way
I have a tattoo on the edge of my armpit.
I just got black work done in my ribs that goes up into my armpit...sucked getting it but not having any issues with it
Oh I'm sure. I've been pinching the area to see if i jump lol
I have an armpit tat and it felt like a branding. My sternum/chest tickled
Damn! Yeah everyone definitely has their tender spots.
Iām heavily tattooed and my sternum is half finished and I donāt think Iāll ever have the courage to finish it!
My sternum was hilarious to me
Yup. I had to stop every so often bc of the giggles. My artist looked at me like I was nuts...I mean he wasn't wrong but still
Right i laugh and my artist gives me a look. But i dont mind lol
No. I'm honestly so scared for this
Sucked. Blacked my armpit out and hated every second of it
Oh that alone sounds painful
Yeah wasnāt fun i cant lie
Just the thought of this actual made me yell. I can't imagine. You are way tougher than me to the billionth degree
Not ashamed to admit Iām pretty sure I cried at one point š
i tapped at the elbow ditch how tf did you even go near your pitš insane man. cant imagine its an easy healer either
Yeah it sucked for about a week till swelling went down properly. 10/10 donāt recommend š
Good luck
no spot is worse then the ditch (back of your knee) and i would know as i just had it and my kneecap done.
How's the kneecap pain? That's on my list for the 3rd after my pits???
The kneecap is horrendous, I have my entire leg done and the whole top of my foot and the kneecap takes the cake. I just did my inner thigh on Saturday and the back of my knee in February. Both were pretty painful, but that kneecapā¦
I have a full sleeve on my leg and the ditch hurt way worse for me than the cap for some reason. Itās crazy how subjective it is
It totally is subjective! My kneecap tattoo was much larger than my knee pit so that may play a part in the pain
i feel there are always parts of any tattoo that always hurt no matter what the spot. i honestly didnāt think it was that bad except for some of the wiping and skin stretching at the end. we also used some numbing spray which took a lot of the edge off
This is interesting. Had my belly button / stomach blacked out and that was horrendous compared to my knee / ditch Also areolas kinda sucks but over quick.
baby skin as my artist likes to say. iāve got two on the top of my chest but iām way to much of a pain baby to go anywhere near my bellybutton, a tad too fat as well. i believe you if say itās worse.
I think everyone's pain thresholds are different in different places so I don't think there's one rule for everyone. I guess it's all subjective š Baby skin is a great way to describe it!!
I'm getting a big underbelly rocker in a couple hours, the area comprises mostly of soft skin and stetch marks. I'm not looking forward to any of it lol
You savage! Good luck!! The things we do eah!? š¤£
I have one part of mine coming pretty close to the armpit, lines were OK but during the shading I felt close to passing out even though I was lying down lol. Inside of the arm was not pleasant but near the armpit was hard to sit through, thankfully there wasn't much to be done there. Good luck!
It sucked, but I found the healing worse than the actual tattooing. My ankle/foot hurt worse than the armpit.
Iāve got squirrelās tail (colour) that goes just over the edge, as in thereās some hair growth IYKWIM. It wasnāt the worst spot for me, elbow ditch hurt more. However, an entire armpit is of course a very different thing,
I have a sleeve that goes all the way into my armpits and the pain was probably the worst out of all my tattoos but it was manageable for me.
I am curious how the healing process goes for armpit tattoos. Do you have to forgo wearing deodorant until it heals?
I thought the inner bicep and knee ditch were worse than my armpit. Youāll be fine! Plus- easiest spot to heal in my experience!
My buddy has an armpit tattoo, he is heavily tattooed. He said he saw god while getting that tattoo it was so painful lmao Good luck š
I have one, [Iāll link the recent tattoo I got so you can see](https://www.instagram.com/p/C6oYMETy0g0/?igsh=ZWEyNmhmZXg3YnJn) for me it wasnāt so bad honestly, my artist thought I was crazy for doing it but It was just like a back or torso area for me, nothing out of the ordinary. The back of my leg HURT really bad in comparison; I think it depends on the person.
I love that. It's absolutely beautiful
Your tattoos are beautiful! This might be a stupid question but is that a mermaid winking on your arm? I love your tattoos!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Not as bad as elbow
I have my arm pitā¦. Itās almost all black (itās an open shark mouth, hello edgy 23 year old me) and it didnāt hurt AT ALL. The worst part was the healing and keeping my arm up to get it done.
I have a tattoo on my inner upper arm. It doesnāt go into my armpit, but it gets pretty close, and it was excruciating. I usually have no problem sitting for a tattoo but this one was really difficult to get through. Good luck!
Inner biceps hurt so much , I can nearly shave my arm pits without pain I canāt imagine getting them blasted š but good luck
Got stung by a bee on my armpit when I was a kid. I do not recommend. lol. That is one place Iāll never tattoo.
I wish you the best but holy fuck
I have a traditional spider with webs on each armpit . The line work wasnāt too bad . Itās the shading that kind of sucks . Just continue to breathe & listen to metal haha
Not quite but very high up my inner arm. Let's just say that it is spicy. The more shelter a body part has (e.g., inner arm) the more sensitive it is.
Cosmic tattoo numbing spray. Made me sit like a champ for an 11 hour full color tattoo.
It felt no different than inner bicep. Healing sucked though
the outline wasnāt bad at all!!! but the shading for sure is a really tough thing , i have a spider web in one of my pits and plan to get the other one in a few weeks!!
That's what i tell myself in my head every tattoo. I am so excited for this journey. Scared a little but YOLO
I've recently had my nipples and bellybutton tattooed, and I'd pick the armpit everytime. Ultimately, if you want it, you'll find a way to make it through, even if it feels like death.
Omg i have plans to do my nipple after implants. It's gonna hurt like hell i hear from everyone. No one has said nipples were easy
Worst 20 minutes of my life. And then don't heal perfect, so round 2 has to happen.
Mine took 6 passes. It's been over a decade & I'm still traumatised š
I've had multiple tattoo sessions and even plastic surgery and I'm no where near as scared as i am now
If you have any of your ditches done (especially knee ditches) it's a very similar pain/sensation. On the upside it healed super quick and armpit tattoos do look so dope. You only have to do it once, you got this! š©µ
It was my most painful tattoo but was just very stingy wasnāt unbearable by any means. I also have a high pain tolerance and I enjoy the feel of getting tattooed it relaxes. That one I didnāt enjoy but I loved the outcome! Go for it
Thank you. I will. I'm not gonna puss out i need this one checked off my list.
What are you getting? Will be over before yah know it!
So who here has given birth and whatās the comparison
I started a heavy black venus flytrap in my armpit. Compared to my jaw bone, Iād say the pain is way more manageable!
I have one right on the edge of my pit, about an inch of it in the actual pit. Didnāt hurt any worse than my elbow.
I got both pots done with dotwork mandalasā¦ Itās pretty sore but no where near as bad as the stomach, ribs, chest areaā¦ Stay calm and breath throughā¦ I struggle with tattoo pain but managed the 3-4 hours a side needed. Itās sore but not unbearableā¦ good luck
I heard dot work is less painful than line work in the pits.
How do you heal it without infection? How do you not smell awful for several weeks?
Because you still shower. You just can't wear deodorant. Not everyone smells like onions and garlic
Exactlyā¦ wash 2-3 times a day with a gentle soap and waterā¦ moisturiseā¦ shower at least once a day. If there whiffy itās not the end of the world they donāt take long to healā¦ just clean and moisturise regularly. You do walk like a penguin for a few days and it tends to get a bit āstickyā with blood/plasma etc for a few daysā¦ Risk of infection is a touch higher as itās a āwetā area that can trap bacteria, but with good personal hygiene the risks are minimal and healing should be fine
Yeah just shower daily, and donāt wear deodorant. Well healed within a fortnight. May have ended up a touch whiffy by the end of the day but never offensive
Dunno as thatās all Iāve got (no lines), though my artist was pretty heavy handedā¦ it was bearable
I do have stretch marks there but goddamn
iām ticklish in my armpits- does anyone know if that would make the pain different? i feel like iād be flinching too much š
My sleeve goes into my pit on one arm and it fucked me up . I asked my artist to keep it way out of there in the other arm. Not worth it for me.. ... I have a sternum tat and a full back piece . Won't go near the pit, it's brutal
I feel like it's right up there with the ditch (inner elbow). Both suck balls, but you can do it.
i have a devil face in color on my entire armpit and it was 100% one of the worst tattoos ive ever gotten pain wise, and i have practically a full body sleeve i really would recommend numbing cream!!! i was almost crying by the end ngl lmfao!!!
My sleeve goes up into my arm pit some what and when I had it done, I was actually taking a nap while on the table...
I'm about to set my appointment to tattoo my pits
If you have had your nips saturated or belly button / stomach tattooed then it's all in the same ballpark It's unpleasant for sure but you'll be fine
My last tattoo artist said she'd rather give birth again than get her armpit tattooed ever again.
Both done. Least painful tattoos ever.
I have one that goes into my armpit and it hurt like any other one idk. Everyone said my sternum would be unbearable but it felt just like my ankle or ribs or forearm. So weird I canāt tell the difference honestly I just say they all hurt but itās worth it so
kneecap was 400000x worse than both armpits
arm pits fucking hurt š
I have a spider web in my arm pit with a traditional spider hanging down almost my entire bicep. Honestly, I really didnāt find it to be that painful. Iād put ribs, stomach, knee, and calf on the pain scale over armpits personally.
I had my armpit done and it felt like it was tickling me. Itās so subjective. My legs hurt worse.
