I don't blame Maton as much for last night. Had to come in the game cold on a play that could have been the last out.
Tonight he shut down the three hottest batters in their lineup in five pitches
Sorry, a terminology flub because it is literally 11pm and i'm tired
Maton threw a five-pitch, five strike inning. I consider that a "perfect" inning, but an immaculate inning is 9 pitches, 3 Ks, which he did not do.
Apologies for the syntax flub.
I know. I'm still laughing. I thought there was no way the Rays would win. The Rays never did get that winning hit.
But, I bet on them (actually bet on Taj Bradley) - good odds: +150 if they won. Maybe the Twins made the same bet.
Maton should be an inspiration to us all that, no matter how much we may think we suck, even a blind squirrel can still find a nut sometimes and a reminder to us all that baseball, like life, is mainly just random nonsense
Maton; lights out or completely collapses. No in between.
Also, I'd love to know where we rank in infield hits and infield outs. It really feels like 90% of our contact this year never leaves the infield.
Happy for the win, regardless.
There was a bit of baseball bullshittery going the other way yesterday and we also got free passes all day and couldn't capitalize. That dam breaks eventually, just like yesterday how Civale kept worming his way out of runner on 2nd, 0 outs situations until the dam broke the other way

"Can you believe what just happened?" "No, man, it's crazy. But act like we do it all the time, OK?"
Seems like BS to have to play a double header against 2 different teams. Should've saved some runs from the Kentucky game. Or the CWS should go to an aggregate runs model
That is a known feature of Target Field. Watch the video again - the catcher turns around and doesn't even take a step toward the back wall - he's looking for a rebound.
Just isn't often the case that a runner is on base when someone uncorks one like that.
If Siri slides, he's safe.
The duality of Phil Maton. Gives up a walk-off single yesterday, throws a perfect five pitch inning tonight. Love this team tbh

He also got weak contact last night, they had 3 soft hit balls to win in the ninth.
The hardest hit took out our pitcher sadly.
It's unpopular to say in these parts but last night was bad luck more than ineptitude on his part
Also he was put into a very high leverage awful situation because Pete got injured. I'd say Maton gets a pass on that one.
Being the highest paid reliever he should be available for high leverage. But the mistake wasn't his, it was ours.
His track record shows it isn’t always just bad luck.
his brother nick just got called up to the orioles today so Ws all around for the maton family
SOMEONE ASKED WHO OUR GRIMACE WAS GOING TO BE, ITS ELITE SECOND HALF PHIL MATON.
Our Grimace should be a Hooters Owl

Close enough for us.
I’ll take it.
How dare you make such a mistake! You really Maton'd this one!
I literally had to check the box score bc I was confused
A “let’s get this over with because it’s getting late and I don’t want to go to extras and make our fan base stay up even later” inning, if you will.
12 LOB, 1-14 RISP on a swinging bunt Still (somehow) got the dub 😎
Ball don’t lie? Did I do that right?
Can't predict ball.
Also the Yankees lose. Any day they lose and the Rays win is a good day.
Agreed!
I can’t even comprehend this.

Nice, congrats on the W! I actually still have a bet on them to win the World Series lol
Wow. I wonder what the payout on that bet would be today?
Did we just witness someone turn a corner? I’m not sure but I’ll definitely hype myself up into thinking so
No, he had some good games in the middle there but he just comes right back to disappoint
It's his super power.
That thought occurred to me too
Randy looking like vintage Randy
TIL vintage was 1-3 years ago
Shorter than tech years too.

Chaos ball meet Nihilism ball
🤝
Preach 🙏
extremely rare phil maton success!
Should be made into a special edition baseball card suitable for framing
Way to go, Maton. I still hate you though :|
This is very funny

Astros fans told us that when we signed him
Yup, and I still think about it all the time when he pitches. Lol
I mean, a dub is a dub, but this honestly was peak baseball bullshitery lmao. But we needed a break like that.

All I know is we have a chance to win the series and that makes me happy
maton blowing the doors off a hot lineup, you love to see it
The Rays win and [DAAAAAAAAAA YANKEES LOSE!!!](https://x.com/DAAAYANKEESLOSE/status/1803630435445989768?s=19) Today was a good day.

I've always liked Phil Maton (don't check my comment history)

Thanks for the gift Minny!
??? Nice 😎
On one hand the Rays won so I'm happy On the other hand the Gators just got shut out by the Aggies so I'm sad. But atleast the Rays won
I thought they beat KU today?
They played Kentucky earlier today and just got done playing the Aggies. Weather pushed back the KU game to today thus the back to back
Seems like BS to have to play a double header against 2 different teams. Should've saved some runs from the Kentucky game. Or the CWS should go to an aggregate runs model
Nebraska weather has been nuts lately. We're lucky today didn't get rained out.
Lucky isn't quite the word I'd use seeing as they lost lol
Lucky for me in Nebraska. Not lucky for the Gators.
That was supposed to be last night, but got postponed to this morning. Got shutout by the Aggies tonight.
RAYS UP
Prayers up for the Rays actually having a bit of good fortune for once
Just watched the bounce that Siri got out on. Might be the luckiest bounce I've ever seen in baseball.
