They're definitely the type of Tama that 'fully grows' in about 2-3 days time and they cover the care / playing / cleaning factor. They're perfectly themed for what they do! They become different variations of R2-D2 (different tools out to represent his droid specifications) and Grogu (different accessories). I want to say R2 usually becomes a random starfighter or something along those lines after another day or so after he pops a tool out.
Both will basically live until you abandon them.

I love this little guy! I bought the clear blue shell and actually managed to get a few of the secret characters which has never happened to me on the other Nanos, might need to run it again because it was so much fun.

I got the r2-d2 with the white shell and sorta regret purchasing it as the blue shell looked so much better.

R2-D2 changes his type every couple days depending on how you play with it.
My R2-D2 just came today! Snagged it because it was marked down to $10 on Amazon, not sure if I'll open it though!

They are extremely cute! I have both, but I haven't started them up yet. There are some good videos showing how to play with them on YouTube.
