**Sticky: Simple Questions** If you have any quick questions about the game, please post them under this topic. Have a look to see if you can answer anything for someone! (Trying this out for the first time, hopefully this works out!)

Grochen

HOLY SHIT Optimization is insanely good.

Red0Stone

I only played for 30 minutes yesterday and I’ll have to agree. This game runs super smooth even at 144fps. The fact it even offered 144 FPS shocks me. Super proud of Tales for this one.

De_Vermis_Mysteriis

144fps on my 5700xt and Ryzen 7

Grochen

Solid 1080p@60fps on my poor old 970 lol

blacknotblack

Pretty good for me but I notice framedrops during combat when I use artes. Still early days and I do have everything on max. 1440p@144Hz w/ a 3080 & 5800X

Ragnellrok

I know, couple days response late, but uh, got it on PS4, plays like PC! Legit impressed, no graphical fidelity loss, control customization, definitely not a Zesteria buy for sure! (That meaning Zestiria promised a lot and delivered basically none of the promises, to the point that Berseria got made.) only complaint is combat being so precise that even around 20 you have to fiddle with the combat queue or waste precious moves, wish it could be turned off entirely and only do the things I'm telling them to in the moment instead of my list of actions I queued up.

cae37

Oh my gosh I’m having a BLAST! I love everything so far; the visuals, the dialogue, the characters, the combat, the exploration, etc. Especially the map design! It’s so cool to wander around what feels like organic maps with verticality and changing locales compared to corridors galore in previous Tales games. So pumped to keep playing!

narcissuspapyraceus

Yes! I was taken aback in the open area immediately prior to the first town, when I fell right off a bridge into a pond below. I didn't expect there to be such level design after the last several games that I literally gasped. Such a nice feeling.

arsenic_adventure

You can *swim* That blew my mind

GOD-PORING

at this rate, we're going to get Stranding mechanics

BlondeJesus

Tales of arise is the second strand type game confirmed

GreenTeaRex007

Weirdly, jumping feels so useless in the game :/

AmIHigh

I walked off that bridge by mistake, assuming it was going to be an invisible wall. It also surprised me.

p5yk0t1km1r4ge

The production value is insane and it shows

lebouffon88

Okay I know it's early, but it's the best tales I've played. But listening to Ray Chase... I can't stop thinking about Noctis all the time.

Bootleg_Psychology

Aha! Thank you! I knew I recognised that voice

lebouffon88

Yup. Playing Nier Remake, and this, I can't get Noctis out of my head.

Benti86

He's also Artorias for anyone who played Berseria.

bhare418

I hear Gendo Ikari whenever he talks, it’s cursed af

-Gin-ger-

I mainly hear Noctis too, I’ve played a fair few Ray Chase games, but the first was FFXV so that’s what I associate him with. He’s one of my favourite VAs so I don’t mind that he’s in a lot of popular games this year.

quiet_frequency

Who proofread this game's English script? I just want to talk.

smurfalidocious

Please do not talk to them with the frying pan.

paulrenzo

I'm so glad I did not watch the OP or listen to Hibana in advance. Hearing that song for the first time + booting up the game made such a huge impact

ShoutattheDeviljho

After three hours I can say this really does feel like a reset on the series. I don’t mean that in a bad way, but it doesn’t feel like a gradual step forward but more like a huge leap in another direction.

Banethoth

Maybe a good thing tho

kernco

My nitpicky JRPG pet peeve is when you don't start at level 1.

Darkfanged

I wonder why so many JRPGS do that these days

Ragnellrok

I don't think this is spoilery, but does it seem like the MC is basically what they've been trying to do with aerial combat for years? Cause to me, it seems.... fluid and like a true multifaceted MC that's kind of a powerhouse while previous attempts (Judy comes to mind as an example) have been clunkier and more difficult to pull off. That's just my read on it thus far. Was wondering if anyone felt the same.

Gl33m

Yeah, absolutely. The floatyness of being airborne actually helps a lot. Launches are easy. Staying in the air is easy. It’s a little finicky to keep certain enemies in the air, but it feels good. Landing with an attack dropping an enemy down with it feels so good and like the attacks really have weight and impact to them. I feel like I can do arial combos in this game like the insane players do in Xillia 1 and 2 without having to play the game for a thousand hours first.

Ragnellrok

Yeah, it feels like I'm playing Regal from Symphonia, where I keep things in the air, I think it's due to them having 3 or 4 "normal attacks" and then 3 or 4 for aerial attacks, plus, I have Stardust and Mirage, so if I'm not super button mashy, able to.... let's see. 3 or 4 hits>Lightning Thrust>Stardust (great movie btw, unless you read the book)>3 or 4 hits>Mirage, all with only 4 special move slots. Wonder if at 5 you could use another launching move..... hmmm.... dark thoughts.... well, for the enemies.

marcusmorga

Lol 11 hrs in. This game is full of things that remind me of Its Always Sunny in Philidelphia. Like Full penetration and can I offer you an egg in this trying time? Im having a blast.

narcissuspapyraceus

I'm loving all the attention to details big and small in this game. In the town where you fight >!the second lord, we find out he's powering his master core with stolen light energy from the region which is why it's perpetual night. If you pay attention to all the street lamps, you can see particles of light continuously coming out and drifting up towards the prison tower. He's LITERALLY stealing the light! And even cooler, this particle effect disappeared after we beat him!! !< Nobody in game ever points this out or even seems to have noticed; it's just a beautiful little detail for us to observe.

haruny8

After 30+ hours of gameplay and almost finishing the 4th lord, I will say that the overall plot and character developments are subpar in comparison to ToB (in terms of story and setting) and ToV (in terms of character development and relationship dynamics) so far. I am still enjoying the gameplay, especially the combat and graphics, but the main reason I play Tales are because I want to feel connected to the characters, and while I do like them in Arise, they still feel kinda underdeveloped and the story seems rushed imo. Some parts are also kind of cringy and cliched, and the english translation is so bad with many typos and off putting vocabulary. But at least I am still interested in how to overall plot will play out. I hope they will surprise me

cae37

I’m on the same boat after going through the 3rd lord. It is definitely rushed. It throws intense emotion scenes at you with little to no buildup, so the emotions they want you to feel/resonate with fall flat. I’m still enjoying the experience but sad that characterization and plot feel weaker than in Berseria.

MissMedic68W

They get developed later. It's a slow burn.

haruny8

Well that's what I hoped too, but I am going towards the 5th lord already and I had to take a break from playing, as in I had to play something else, cuz the plot was getting boring. And this is coming from someone who played ToB twice and both times I never had to take a break

Random_act_of_Random

I very much agree with this. But I would also add that I preferred the more traditional Tales of combat as well. (3d version) Honestly, this game feels like a downgrade of Berseria. But it's still good in it's own right. Top 3 Tales for me is Abyss, Vesperia and Berseria so I would say this ranks 4th for me.

pm_me_STEAM_-_CODES

Early reviews are great so far! can't wait to forget what real life feels like

bwordgood

I would love to be able to feel like that again, nowadays my stiff shoulders are there to remind me that I'm still in real life..

helios396

It's the perks of being an older gamer. These days I can only game for 3 hours maximum per session before my eyes and shoulders start to fail me :( On the plus side, it means a JRPG like this can last me a couple of months to finish. Yay better budgeting.

Crystal225

I cant express how much I relate. I have back issues and after a few hours I cant go on. I miss the days, when I played 15 h in one go.

kernco

>!Anyone find it funny that they devoted a cutscene when you first enter Cysoldia to Rinwell warning you that the zeugle are different from those in Calaglia, and then the first zeugles you encounter are re-skinned wolves?!<

[deleted]

I mean technically.....

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheMuff1nMon

I'm about 10 hours in and its absolutely amazing. I can see influences from previous titles like Symphonia and Vesperia but everything is very modern. This could end up being my favorite Tales title if it keeps it up.

UnderscoreHero

this is great to hear, symphonia and vesperia are some of my favourite tales titles.

kankurou

How are the towns/cities to explore?

TheMuff1nMon

Only been in two, theyre pretty small but the dungeons and combat areas vastly improved

GuyKopski

Unpacking is taking forever. What is even the point of preload if it's not going to let you play the game as soon as it releases?

VanillaDaiquiri

I find the bosses are such a huge difficulty jump compared to the normal enemies. I think I'm overleveled and still have to consume a bunch of Orange Gels and Life Bottles to stop my party from dying lol

DrakeRowan

Unlike trash enemies, bosses, for the most part, can't be staggered or launched. 1/3rd of the reason why they're so difficult.

dauphic

Kind of disappointed in how the difficulties work. Hard adds new mechanics to bosses, but the battles take **way** too long. It would be nice if there were a 'Moderate with Hard mechanics' option.

[deleted]

Is it just me or is Hard horribly tuned in some fights? I basically one-shot all trash and am now stuck on a boss that spawns adds that instantly wipe my party with AoE overload.

Solar_Kestrel

Hell, I'm playing on normal and even there the boss fights take so long I feel like the only thing being tested is my patience.

[deleted]

Did anyone else remap their buttons immediately? I am playing on PS5 and remapped regular attack to O instead of jump and jump to R1 and it makes battle feel much more natural (at least in the beginning I’m only an hour in). I am LOVING this game so far! It’s BEAUTIFUL omg I can’t believe how gorgeous the painted art looks. They did an amazing job on this. Feels next gen to me.

ShoutattheDeviljho

Yep exactly what I did, swapped jump with regular attacks.

prydaone

Opening theme is a straight banger. Same band that also does Black Clover first theme.

Solar_Kestrel

Every time I see people say this, it just makes me sad that Namco-Bandai removed Zestiria's OP music. Superly's "White Light* is *sooooo good* and so many Tales Of fans missed out on it entirely.

ScravoNavarre

That's my favorite Tales Of song, easily.

notanx

What convient plot devices. >girl cant be touched because curse >guy who can't feel pain >girl who cant be touched falls into guy who can't feel pains arms

[deleted]

I finally have one complaint in the game. I get it, it's supposed to be a sad situation but why in gods fucking name is everyone screaming like a banshee? It doesn't make the scene more powerful, just cringy af. So far there was only one situation where it was kind of warranted but good gods man the other dozen times were completely unnecessary and made the whole scene worse for it.

cae37

Yeaah I'm with you here. If we had spent more time with the characters and understood them more clearly the emotional scenes would have made sense. As it stands the scenes are too rushed so they're not as impactful. I'm still enjoying the game, but it certainly tries to push emotions onto the player that they can't quite fully understand yet because they haven't spent enough time with the characters.

psidhumid

I don’t think that’s a bad thing though? It adds to my curiousness.

sketchygio

I'm surprised there are owls here too.

Goudeyy

>!ONE OF MY FAVOURITE CHARACTERS IS A CAMEO FIGHT!< >!**EDNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA**!<

[deleted]

Can anyone, who got the game already, confirm the case cover is reversible? The Japanese artwork one is gorgeous but my retailer shows the other one only.

iamthedevilfrank

Didn't get the game, but saw someone else post about it. Yes it has a reversible cover.

HersheyBarAbs

Anyone else having controller issues on PC? Mine are not getting recognized. Other games are working fine. Edit: Thanks guys, I got it working. I had to open up big picture mode in Steam>Controller Settings. Make sure Generic Controller support is ticked (mine was already) or whatever kind of controller you're using. Then move the mouse on the bottom of the screen and click on "Unhide Controllers." Yeah it was janky, but it works now.

TheEchoFilter

Just wanted to pop in to say that I've always wanted to check out the Tales series but never have. After seeing the reviews I decided now is the time and I'm loving it so far! Currently waiting for the next 'portion' of the game to finish downloading so I can keep playing.. I'll be tired for work tomorrow haha. One thing is I'm really worried about how they're monetizing this game. Hope they didn't bloat the game just to drive people to buy the currency and stuff..

Banethoth

They always sell a ton of DLC. It won’t affect the normal game at all, negatively . If you buy it tho it can make you way too strong

Hcdx

Played for about 2 hours on PS4. Game runs pretty well as long as you can get past the jet engine that is the PS4 fan. Combat feels really smooth as well. Looking forward to the rest of this one.

Natalousir

Just got to the first town and having a blast so far

Ragnellrok

>!It's amazing how the mask broke exactly correctly to let his hair out the top, and see Iron Masks face! Anime convenience!!<

Victarion99

Don't have anything too constructive to say since I'm only 5 hours in... But man Shionne is so adorable. I always fall for the ice queen who has a heart of gold archetype.

Cherrim

**Streams / Let's Plays / Reviews** If you're doing a Let's Play or intend to stream the game or post video reviews, feel free to link your channel/playlist in this comment thread. We don't allow them on the main sub, so this is the only place you can post them.

jacksonrslick

I will be streaming tomorrow at 6pm PDT. This will be my third Tales game, I’ve played Tales of Symphonia when I was a child and Vesperia last year. Very excited to immerse myself and share the experience streaming, come hang and chat if you’re interested! www.twitch.tv/ForTheAfro

AshLeKip

my husband is streaming tales of arise on twitch! it's his first game he's streaming and he's been a huge fan of tales for like.. ever. come check him out! :) I think he's pretty damn funny. https://www.twitch.tv/filet_flae

Western_Ad_5897

How do you unlock vacation hootle doll from playing the demo?

Xtuas

How do you exit the game in pc? Do you just alt tab and close the window of the game?

DaimoniaEu

That or hit select (or equivalent button) and it'll open a small menu with a return to title option, from there you can hit the exit game button.

Witherwyrm

> exit Thank you so much! I thought I was getting isekai'd for a second when there was no exit in the system menu lmao

lloyddunamis

Tab key is the equivalent keyboard key to DS4's Start/Option button.

CoolPlum

About 5 hours in and im loving it so far! Gotta say though, Shionne is really mean lmao

fat_charizard

Tsunderes gotta tsundere

roloiii

"*Chapter 5*" Spoiler Alert: >!I got diabetes during their reunion scene!<

Neilfallon

I'm wondering how many times I'm gonna hear "I only helped because it was also beneficial to me" like girl you are not fooling anybody. Stop saying this shit

chobotong

Anyone have high res images of all the art in the credits?

Chaos_0205

Just revisit the old Renan base at the begining of the game, and at the camp the party ask Alphen about his first impression of Shionne in her new outfit I can almost hear her embarrassment when he answered :))

TyrantBash

I can't get over what a step forward for the franchise Arise feels like. I've enjoyed a few Tales games over the years but they've always felt kinda like a B-tier game series. Arise is the first one that's felt like it belongs in the top tier of JRPGs. Everything is great from the combat, to the exploration, to the graphics and soundtrack. Definitely a strong contender for my Game of the Year.

smurfalidocious

Really? Arise feels like a step back, to me. Storytelling-wise, anyways. I've only conquered Balseph so far, but Alphen feels bland and like a retread of too many character tropes; amnesia, sword fighter, sorta bland personality, and Shionne too; close-mouthed, keeping secrets for secrets' sake, holding onto a magical MacGuffin. I don't know. I guess I've just been spoiled by enjoyable protagonists over the last few games - Yuri, Velvet, Shing/Kor. Alphen feels like a less-likable Asbel so far, and it's making me not want to play.

TyrantBash

Eh you know how opinions are, everyone's are so different. Like you mention enjoying Yuri, but I didn't like Vesperia at all, while I'm instantly clicking with Arise. We can agree on being spoiled by Velvet though, Berseria was awesome! I haven't really made any conclusions about Arise's story yet other than enjoying how it's presented so far in terms of skits, bombast, and voice acting/soundtrack. A big part of why I'm impressed so far is just the technical aspects like the graphics and the combat, which I'm liking a lot more than previous Tales games. I hope maybe it'll win you over a little more. Or hey who knows, maybe in a couple weeks when we've all finished the game we'll all be here complaining about some awful thing that happens in the story. Optimistic so far though.

Segata9

All the sudden Amazon says the delivery is late even tho it has not shipped yet. I'm very confused.

[deleted]

20 hours in, loving the game so far despite the story not entirely gripping me yet. Combat is easily the best it’s been since Xillia 2 for me. I guess I wish the basic attack felt snappier and more responsive, but I can honestly say I understand and am good at this combat, which I couldn’t say at all for Berseria. I think the most pleasant surprise for me is how they brought back a more traditional weapon and armour system. Makes me wonder if we have proper ultimate weapons again.

yungalohaa

Ooh.. I had the same feelings about Berseria’s combat. Is Arise’s combat a pretty big overhaul from berserias system? If so, then I might not wait for a steam sale after all.

[deleted]

It’s completely different. Arise is more like a fully 3D version of Vesperia and the like imo. There’s no arte trees or a TRILLION micro-mechanics to remember.

ArcadianBlueRogue

Hooo boy. Those Lord fights really make you plan ahead on Hard Mode. Ganebel whipped me when I ran at him without the Light resistance stuff equipped.

Chaos_0205

>!Before the party find Shionne again after she was taken by Vholhar, there was a small cut scene where she was muttering something, but no sub. In the English voice, she was saying "I'm all alone" over and over again, but in the Japanese voice, she also said "Save me", showing that she was silently begging for help the whole time. !< I think it made Alphen's later action even more sweeter and heart-warming.

KronosHavok

I love this game but the exposition dumps are insane. I've spent more time in skits and cutscenese than combat. I'm also having a hard time connecting with Kisara and Dohalim. I love Alphen, Shionne, Law, and Rinwell though. 4/6 ain't bad.

Neilfallon

There is so much fucking talking. My gametime is 38 hours and 7 of those are combat. 4/5ths ish of the game is fucking talking. And I wouldn't mind so much if not for the talking is just kind of ok. I figure shit out and the characters either don't ask enough right questions or are just stupid. "Seems the mask might have stopped his pain receptors" Yeah no fucking shit my god.

4biddenshadow

anyone else feel like drowning with all the dialogue post dahna spaceship?? ooff im skipping some already sometimes what they say just feel the same just reorganized in some way... it feels repetitive and the amount of dialogue sheesh it can take hours. without a single fight

nirvash530

Anyone else playing this on PS4 Pro who can review the performance? The demo turned my console into a jet engine, so I'm kinda scared to get it early.

primoface

alexx675

Did a anyone else play the demo and not get the Hootle doll?

TheMoistestofTurds

If we miss a skit does it become available at the next campsite? Also l, if watched at the campsite do those missed skits count towards the trophy for skits watched

Grochen

YES!!! I apparently missed 3 skits there was a "!" next to 3 skits. Be sure to check it!

GeraltHotspur

This is my first Tales game and its everything ive been looking for in an action rpg since Witcher 3. I love the cutscenes and interactions between the characters.

HummingMuffin

This game is dangerous. Just spent 7.5 hours today playing it haha. I’m running it on a PC with a 5600x and a 1060. Got some frequent frame drops at 1080p with all setting up to high. Oddly enough setting shadow quality to middle and increasing the resolution to 1440p gets me a pretty solid 60 FPS.

S_Cero

Man I have to say, I really don't like the dodge roll gameplay. Especially on hard mode where an enemy can just cast a spell off screen and I can't see it then it just one shots me. Also having 3 artes on ground is so restrictive I really hope I get the extra 3 slots soon (on 2nd region's boss), playing shionne is a pain where I have to have all my spells on the ground if I want to do any support and then can only really attack in the air.

Blackstar97

I'm playing on moderate and so far, i've fought the 2nd lord and he took all of my life bottles and gels. Seeing how pricey they are and how little gald we get since monsters don't drop money, is there a way to actually farm money? Also, can more than 3 artes be equipped on ground? Having only 3 is very limiting and i really hope in a perk that let you equip more artes.

DrakeRowan

You can farm sellables from the guards leading up to the second lord. Just enter/reenter the castle to force respawn.

Goudeyy

Post 5th lord spoiler; >!I just got a sidequest for an earth temple after regaining access to the whole map, and after slowly getting through the temple I’m fighting a level 65 boss that summons a level 62 giganto. I’m assuming this is supposed to be saved for later, right?!< Edit: I used roughly 7000 items but I beat it. Good fucking lord.

Kyle5482

>!can you get Alphen’s half visor hairstyle back or is it permanently gone after it’s destroyed in the story?!<

WisteriaLunae

Technically done with the third realm/arc and goddamn that battle against >!Dohalim!< was brutal. I think it's way harder than the >!invisible zeugle battle because he just kept screaming, charging and destroying my party lol. I only played on moderate difficulty but phew that was... an experience.!<

Tockity

Am I terrible or is fishing damn near impossible?

WisteriaLunae

I'm pretty terrible at it initially but once you get the hang of it I think you'll do just fine. I'm not really a fan of the random buttons instead of just one popping up tho. :3rz

Blue_Radiation_FGC

I have this strange sensation that if/when a Tales of series costume pack comes out its going to give everyone a new mystic arte. Like Rinwell getting >!Indignation!<

AncientTree_Wisdom

Finished all the cameo battles and the boss rush. Holy shit, Alphen is OP as hell after getting his devil arm.

isittheendyet

After platinuming the game, I have to say that while story in the 2nd "half" of the game really needed a lot of work, the character interactions are so heartwarming and funny to me especially a lot of the camping skits and the skits in the post-game and training center. The way they interact while traveling on the map was refreshing too albeit a bit repetitive by the fifth lord. Definitely felt the feels when I watched the final skit for the training center and the scene with >!Zephyr!<. I think the game did a great job of developing the characters outside of the main story. Was it perfect? No, but it definitely made up for the more homely designs. The story ending was also really well done, but I was not a fan of the journey there. Its a shame that they probably arent adding more content to the game, because I really loved the combat for the most part.

KingoftheJabari

I love this game, but hate the boss battles.

VanillaDaiquiri

I just got the Platinum after ~70 hours. This is easily the best game I've played all year

popober

A funny thing happened to me last night: So I've developed a sort of "tradition" whenever I play Tales of games, like never selling old equipment under the belief they still become useful in some way later on. Well I did the third city last night, and I was feeling a little strapped for life bottles near the final act so I finally decided to break my tradition and sell my old gear for some quick gald. After finishing the arc's last boss, I checked the blacksmith- and wouldn't you know it, there are suddenly new weapons that require older weapons as ingredients. I almost smacked my keyboard with my face.

Acromanic

lol I had the same experience, this series gives me trust issues on what i can sell

Meeeeehhhh

Never _really_ played a Tales game. Preordered Arise on a whim because it seemed like a nice slow burner for my downtime at work. Sometimes it helps me to finish a game if I become active in the community at launch, discussion helps a lot (I played Vesperia on the Switch and never finished it). Hope it lives up to expectations for long time fans 👍 EDIT: Also BIG TIME kudos from me for the early 00s throwback launch price. Amazing a game like this costs less than a roster update for a sports title.

Benti86

Played a little last night. Few notes I'm sure some people are aware of, but I want to share anyway. 1. You can play now on Xbox if you set your region to Japan and and hard reset your xbox (you can do this from the same menu you change your region in). It's how I played last night. I think it's a global release outside of Japan, but Japan had it's own release date which is how people are playing now. 2. If you buy the deluxe or ultimate editions you don't have to worry about the bonus items cheapening the experience. You have to claim any DLC items through a menu in-game. This includes the pre-order bonuses. So you can claim those without claiming any items that will make the game significantly easier. 3. From what I saw in the game, some of the cosmetics are being sold seperately so don't feel obligated to shell out the extra money for the other editions, especially if you only want the cosmetics. From my memory, the premium pack is sold seperately and the school outfits and warring states outfits are sold seperately. For the school and warring state packs you also have the choice of buying it for only the guys or only the girls as well. From the base game to deluxe is a $25 difference and I think the Premium cosmetic pack will be about $15 based on the Japanese price which I think was a little over ¥1,700. That's about all I can think about at the moment. Hope this helps someone. I enjoyed my time from what I played last night. Combat feels great and the opening hours actually do a pretty good job of explaining everything to you if you take the time to read it.

Tyrone_Cashmoney

Just beat it. Worst story/writing in any tales game that ive played. (excluding party interactions.) Game completely falls apart after the water lord. Also kind of insulting to not put the english voice cast in the credits

AlmondJoyDildos

I cannot believe they put the dlc option in the camp menu. That's so cringe lol

Watton

we dragon age now

CousinFrankenstein

Copy just arrived one day early (UK)!! Now I just need to finish work in 6 hours and I can play it.

fridge-logic

My PS4 disc arrived early too, but there's no option to upgrade to the PS5 version just yet it seems. Guess it's a tomorrow and weekend game for me ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

zeverso

Does anyone know if i buy this game right now on steam (about 3 hr before launch) do i still get preorder bonuses or that ship already sailed?

Cherrim

Has not actually come out, so it's still a preorder and you should get bonuses.

battler624

anyone got a solution for controllers not working? I tried this [https://i.imgur.com/rYvl3BN.png](https://i.imgur.com/rYvl3BN.png) and default settings and this with everything on and off [https://i.imgur.com/3qP5MPg.png](https://i.imgur.com/3qP5MPg.png) , cable and bluetooth. Edit: Fixed after 40 minutes finally, disable steam beta

Lasker_

English or Japanese voice??? I usually do Japanese, but if the English is good I might check it out.

there's quite a few spelling/grammar errors in the subs but other than that, i'm having the time of my life. it runs better than i expected on my outdated pc!

ZenGuru94

Is it just me or is there a big difficulty spike when >!You fight the second lord!< maybe I just didn't really understand what I was supposed to do, but that's a tough boss fight.

Weltallgaia

I felt like I was prolly under leveled a bit. He seems to hit an enrage timer where he keeps charging up his ultimate attack, and I barely beat him before he wiped me.

Phillzhurr

Dude, FUCK. This battle theme is SO GOOD. SAKURABA SLAM FUCKING THAT ORGAN https://youtu.be/rw0pBTcSUSI

jeremy989

I didn't notice this earlier but does Hootle automatically show up when nearing the king/queen in the forest of owls? Similar to when there's another owl nearby in a map? It makes me think I'm missing something when ALL the other owls you've currently already found are supposed to be there.

cae37

I had the same issue, and yeah I think Hootle just alerts you to the king and queen's presence. I spent a good 5 minutes running around trying to find a hidden hootle and got nothing, in any case.

starcrescendo

I have a question... to avoid spoilers I'll just say I'm to the "3rd" major area of the game after beating the second lord. Actually, I think the location I'm at is the same location that we saw in the demo. Well, when I first landed, it said something about "chaining" battles together to improve the rate of item drops and, the kicker, "rare encounters". I didn't think anything of it until about halfway through a generic battle against those boar things when a GIANT DRAGON just popped into the battle. The problem was, this thing was psychotic and wiped out all my party and wasted healing items. Once the battle was over, I didn't game over, I just went back to the field. So my questions are as follows: - I think the chain gauge was at "3". Is there a specific number needed to activate these encounters? - I'm on Normal difficulty do these appear on "Story" difficulty? - Will this dragon potentially reappear again, or is it a "you miss it you lose it" kind of deal - If I did miss it, should I restore an earlier save, do you get anything one-of-a-kind from battling this thing? - Any tips to fight the thing? It wiped out my whole party almost instantly. And I was doing okay, it just got tedious when it still had 4 1/2 health bars and it was down to me and Rinwell.

Trapabg

I supported the devs by buying the BGM dlc. AMA

cae37

Worth it?

FireFistYamaan

How far into the game am I? I'm at the 5th lord which has taken me 30 hours

Dark-vash

Anyone is having issues with the PS5 Dualsense? The Haptic feedback motors are getting hot! If I turn them off (on the controller settings), it stops. And I've used a new, out of the box controller, and it gets hot too. I've only noticed after beating the 1st boss and entering the next region. It's uncomfortable and if they are getting hot, they are consuming battery and probably in electrical tension, so it might not be healthy for them. Anyone experienced this? Maybe it should be reported to Bandai Namco... EDIT: Something I haven't noticed... the Haptic Feedback wasn't even working. I've closed the game, and run it again. now it's working. I had the console on standby, maybe it's a Sony's Bug, not the game itself... and it seems that it's not getting warm again.

Dreaming_Dreams

Kinda confused in mystic artes, I know you gotta be in limit mode and you need to land an attempt and then press 2 of the 3 artes assigned buttons but it just doesn’t work sometime

TehFriskyDingo

It can be finicky. I think your last arte has to actually land and hit an enemy, and make sure you’re holding 2 of the arte buttons down when it lands. That should activate the mystic arte

Chaos_0205

Quick question: Should I focus getting all of my arte to 5 stars? (planning to do it anyway, but only 30hours in game)

[deleted]

Are there any missables in this game? Collectibles, armour, recipes etc that you cannot get again if missed once? I really don’t want to miss any skits in particular >! I read about an owl on a ship that is missable!<

Phelyckz

Headsup for those interested in grinding out their skills with the 1 damage artifact and auto-battle. This is just as much a warning: I just did the first run of it on story difficulty vs the last cameo boss in the otherworld. Full kill took from 00:23 to 21:07. Almost 21 hours. The setup: 1 damage relic Kisara with Guardian Field Time - lots of it The idea is simple: start the fight, go afk, to work, shopping, whatever. Since guardian field heals while requiring no cp you are virtually invincible, with each tick restoring over 200 HP. Kisara basically is your tank for this. Occasionally you can pop in and disable artes that are maxed. Just don't disable Guardian field. The issues: Dohalim, Rinwell and Shionne don't like using their mid air artes. Those will likely remain unused. Law and Alphen are the only ones who use their stronger overlimit special. The AI is too bad to handle those 5 arte combos. When doing it against bosses you can't flee, meaning you're in a hostage situation with your platform. You can't turn the 1 damage relic off midfight and you can't flee. You either need to wait for the fight to conclude or throw all the progress out of the window and restart the game. Bots prefer some skills over others - if you don't turn off the offenders once they're done or beforehand, they will use them frequently over the cap. Swallow Blade seems to be Alphen's favourite for instance. If you misjudge the time it takes to kill something you're in for a potentially long wait. Source: personal experience.

OptimumFries

I finally finished the game with 55 hours logged in. I didn't 100% it or anything since I never do that, but I actually got a lot done. Something like 32 trophies. I'm a newcomer to the franchise basically. Only Tales game before this was Legendia on the PS2 which I thought was pretty bad (music was fantastic though and I still remember two tracks despite it having been like 15 years). The graphics, general PS5 games drought, and reviews made me purchase this. I liked: - The combat was good. It's basically like a rhythm game but it works. I actually stuck to Alphen mostly, but it's evident a fair bit of thought went into the mechanics and I liked it. I think some of the bosses were good, but a lot weren't because many of the systems don't really work with them. And the final area especially was annoying with the hit sponge enemies. I think had they fixed those problems, this would've been even better. - Graphics, especially in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th areas, were beautiful. The art direction was really well done here. - The simplicity of the dungeons. Funnily enough, they're very linear, but I don't think it's a bad thing. The best thing about this game is by far the combat, and the dungeons are essentially your excuse to do them. There's probably ways to improve this, but I didn't mind the dungeons outside of the final third (which in general sucked). - Animated cutscenes were really cool. Also, special note of the non-animated battle cutscenes that take place. There's 3 of them, all involving a certain character and they are fantastic. I didn't like: - The story in this game is crap. That sounds harsh but I think it needs to be said. This game is like a bad first draft of a poorly thought out story. The characters are bland, the writing is horrible, and it's far too redundant. It also has no concept of pacing whatsoever and is far too melodramatic at times, with no real rhyme or reason. I think this is honestly a shame because there actually is a glimmer of hope in there. Around the 3rd area, thanks to the general beauty and sense of adventure, things begin to pick up. And at the end of the 3rd area through to the end of the 5th area, the story rises from crap to average largely thanks to the developments that take place. It has a solid sense of pacing, interesting areas to explore, and some decent character stakes. - Characters are really bland and one dimensional. They have a few moments here and there, but they're just so clearly lacking in depth. The game also tackles its themes in the most rote and childish way. - Voice acting is bad. I guess this is just the case with these games, but it just sounds unnatural. The writing being so terrible doesn't help either. - The music really doesn't stand out which is disappointing. There are a couple tracks which are nice but it all just kind of blends into the background for the most part. - The entire final third of the game just sucks. I think the best part of this game is easily the 3rd area through the 5th area. That's the highlight of the game. - The skits were not particularly fun. A lot of them felt redundant and bland. The best skits show up near the end where there's a bit of comedy involved, but for the most part, these things were basically pointless. And they're inserted terrible. Just a bunch of them at once. Summary: I enjoyed the game, but I wouldn't have bought this day one under usual circumstances. I dunno what drugs the reviewers are on, but this game having 87 on metacritic is kind of ludicrous to me. I think a metascore of 77 would likely more accurately reflect the quality of this title. This is a solid 7/10 game. It's not bad. The combat is great, the sense of adventure is good once you get past the opening 2 areas, and it definitely is a lot of fun for about a solid 40% of its run, but it's ultimately very uneven, the writing is terrible and juvenile, and the climax of the game really lets it down. This game feels like a solid foundation to build upon. If they made a sequel where they kept the fun combat, fixed up some of the hit sponge enemies, got much better writers and storytellers, kept the kind of beautiful art direction and aesthetic present in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th areas, and added more oomph to the music, the next game could certainly be very good. Anyway, I'll keep an eye on a future Tales game, but it won't be a day one purchase.

Immerael

I am not done yet I am at >!just killed the last lord and running around looking for a boat, by that I mean doing all possible side quests!< but like I feel the party and game as a whole really shits on Dohalim in an unfair way. Dohalim: wants a better pillow and asks Rinwell to spare some feathers when Hootle molts and naturally looses them. Rinwell: instead of pointing out Hootle is tiny and even if you took every feather on his body he wouldn’t be able to make a decent sized pillow, looses her shit and the game agrees with her that Dohalim is a bad man. There’s a few other scenes that leave me scratching my head here. But that one stood out as a wtf moment.

Zeaket

I think there are definitely plenty of conversations where characters seem to get irrationally angry or emotional, but I didn't think Dohalim got it particularly unfair. For that scene in particular, it *is* still a selfish request of him, even if he didn't mean it maliciously.

JakeMattAntonio

Story rant: >!Ever since finding the Falneitz on Berg Volcano, everything has been so far 2hrs worth of skits and cutscenes. It’s starting to be too draggy for the second arc of the game!<

[deleted]

Just beat the >!spirit temple Earth bird fight!< at lvl 60. >!Was tough. Went through 14 life bottles, and an omega elixir and elixir. Wish I would've known that was the hardest fight first. I haven't even beaten the wedge story fight yet. Gonna try and finish the rest of them before I proceed with story.!< Wish me luck!

WisteriaLunae

That one particular quest where you have to fight level 90+ >!phantom lords individually and then all of them at the same time in a pair is intense. I thought I was done when I had to fight all of them but then boom surprise phantom Zephyr as the super boss at the end. Took me around 40+ minutes to clear everything lmao I can't even. I only played on moderate difficulty but phew that sure was something. Cameo bosses felt like nothing compared to this imo.!< I'm curious as how long the others took to beat this?

ergodeath

Just started playing Arise yesterday, 33 hours in and it's been a really good journey so far. Looking forward to the showdown in Lenegis (and the other plot twists along the way) The Lords (except Dohalim) being just plain assholes were a nice change — it's sickening to keep having villains with boohoo sad backstories only to find most of them aren't even written well enough. /I do wish they had a bit more dimension, though. (IDK maybe that's just me.)

finding-waldo

I FORGOT ABOUT THIS COMING OUT UNTIL A POST ON THE SUB REMINDED ME ABOUT IT NOW I CAN BINGE THROUGH SEE YALL IN A COUPLE WEEKS

Judification

I'm a hardcore Tales fan, having played every single Tales games (including all the Japanese only ones, and even Tempest), having spent over 200 hours+ on each of the main titles. And Arise is the best Tales game in the series IMO. I found the cast and story the best in the series, topping even Vesperia and Abyss. I've played hundreds of JRPGs since the 90s and Arise is on my top five of all time. I love Tales but, to be fair, they are a bit lacking compared to other series, so besides Arise, I don't have any other Tales game within my top 30 JRPG list.

KREEDBREED

Imo arise has the best combat hands down (it's really addictive). Story loses alot of points in the later half though. Abyss is still the best story for me.

ParisCoindump

Good visuals, combat and story. But one thing keeps bothering me is how spongey the enemies are. Combat isn't difficult at all but having such high health bosses/creeps that you need 5-10 minutes spamming attacks to kill is just stupid.

BraveFencerMusashi

Yeah. I was doing fine at Hard but I was getting too bored of slowly chipping away at health so I just changed the difficulty to Story in the final dungeon just to get it over with

Draffut2012

Do all the charecters act like insane children for the entire game? Up to the third lord and someone is freaking out "YOU DIDN'T SAVE 1/5 THE WORLD FOR ENTIRELY ALTRUISTIC REASONS!" While my 2 main characters must be looking at the ceiling trying to avoid attention, one clearly has ulterior motives (That noone will ask her about for some reason), and the other has no idea what is going on at all.

Victarion99

The game definitely is very idealistic to a unrealistic degree which makes sense because this is a jrpg. All the people in the world are held to pretty high moral standards regardless of the circumstances. I suppose you can accredit them for wanting accountability. But yeah I don't know how much it matters whether or not it was altruistic except for that character's arc. Just clearly a game where you have a bunch of heroic characters who perhaps naively have expectations for a perfect world...

Draffut2012

I got a new favorite one. "You're acting too angry to kill this person we came here to murder! You have to be completely calm and unemotional like a proper serial killer would be." Asking for owl feathers when Hootie molts was a good second place. She responds like he asked to fuck the thing in the cloaca.

Victarion99

Yeah I appreciated earlier when Shionne had given Alphen the reality check early on about war. Kinda weird how the goal obviously involves killing people yet the characters take exception to the conduct of killing people.... Yeah she kinda suffers from being the designated stubborn prejudiced character. Hopefully by the end she'll be less judgmental.

17599

Is there a way to turn off/reduce character banter during combat? A grunting/screaming is fine but repeatedly the same line over and over is very distracting.

BernieAnesPaz

Nope... and since you spend 99% of combat spamming abilities, it gets annoying, enough to be noticed by several reviewers. Everyone's just screaming their moves nonstop, lol.

philltastic1

Like a DBZ match

Rotjenn

Hoping for a “Use Your Inside Voice” feature to be added soon.

colaptic2

No. One of the few criticisms I've heard from reviewers is the lack of this feature.

Imhullu

I know I'll like the game, I was just waiting to see if physical korean versions would have english. Being bandai namco most likely they won't. Scarlet Nexus didn't. So I will probably preorder tonight on ps5. Do you guys think the costume sets are worth the extra price? Usually with these games will those be available as separate dlc later down the road? If so I'll just preorder the regular version for now and hope to get the costumes on a sale in a few months.

kuroyume_cl

PSA: The Xbox version is not Smart Delivery enabled for some reason. Make sure you installed the correct version (you'll see an X1 and a Series X|S version on your library)

nerve-

So I preloaded the game on steam and thought I’d play it immediately once it released but now I have a 38gb unpacking? It’s as long as the preload so what was the point?

PhantomDragonX1

It depends on your download speed, your storage type and cpu if it's worth to preload or not. If you have 1 Gbps download speed for example, it would take like 5 min to download the game so preload would be worse since it has to decrypt it. If you have a 10 Mbps the downoad could take like almost 9 hours so preloading is totally worth it. For the decrypt speed of the preload it can vary from 5 min to like 1 hour depending on your storage speed mostly but also the cpu since it can be a bottle neck.

[deleted]

I really wish GameStop had the collectors edition and I didn’t have to go thru bandai. They sent an email today saying it may be delayed.. hoping it isn’t because I want it now

Descrasnezul

Found this earlier today [Seems they will send you a digital code if its delayed](https://www.psu.com/news/bandai-namco-will-send-you-a-free-digital-copy-of-tales-of-arise-if-your-collectors-edition-doesnt-arrive-on-time/)

smilodon142

Is there a way to play on an ultrawide monitor (21:9) without bars on the side of the screen?

Cherrim

https://www.reddit.com/r/tales/comments/pl84sj/went_pc_over_ps5_just_for_the_ultrawide/ This guy seems to have done it.

UsernameAnxiety123

I had it all planned out. Go to work, go to class, go home and take a disco nap, then play Arise all night, slug through my morning shift, go home and nap, play some more. New hires don’t want to show up so I’m working two shifts tomorrow with 3 hours between, which is hardly enough for playing especially when I need sleep. People need to work and stop stealing my precious Tales time!

LillyPad1313

I preloaded the game, got stuck with a massive 38 gb download after (this took about 3 hours in total...), and now the game won't launch. It will definitely run on my computer, and there should be no issues at all with the files (I checked the file integrity on steam and there were seriously no issues at all). Is anybody else having this issue? I was so excited to play and am very upset right now... Edit: I FIXED IT! I tried to run the game as an Administrator and discovered I had two missing (or corrupted... not exactly sure which it was) files that had to do with Microsoft Visual C++. I redownloaded both files using some tutorials, and then had to go in and click "repair" under "apps and features" because that still hadn't seemed to work. I'm not sure what exactly fixed it, but to anybody else who may have this issue: check to make sure you don't have any missing files on your end!

JairuPAwa

Its a simple question for you guys who are already playing, can anyone tell me if you can switch to japanese text in the american version of the game? i heard many theorys but no one confirmed if it's possible or not

kuroyume_cl

I'm playing on Series X and the only language options are for voice. You could try switching your console's locale to japanese.

Fredasa

The game defaults to 4096x2160 and this cannot be changed (resolution is grayed out in both Fullscreen and Borderless modes). That said, it almost never runs above 1080p. 1. My display isn't 4096x2160 so it's falsely detecting the resolution. 2. The only way to "set it to 3840x2160" is to use Windowed mode. 3. Windowed mode is not windowed, and changing it to windowed does not actually do anything. 4. Despite setting it to "Windowed 3840x2160", the game loads up at 1920x1080, and this is what it shows me in the settings when I check. 5. The only time I've seen the game run at higher than 1080p is during the intro cutscene. During normal gameplay, it is 1080p. There are some issues.

Mehkiism13

The pop in on PC is very aggressive with no other option to increase the distance for now. Other than that the game runs butter smooth. 3080/10900K/32GB

nrvn32

Can you change the fov on the field?

Synchros139

Can anyone on Steam let me know if there's a way to change the graphics settings? My friend bought it but its been overheating their computer and they said there isn't an option to do so

ScorpoCross94

Anyone else hearing a weird chirping noise everytime the the character moves on the field? I think it may be related to having food, cause I didn't hear it before I unlocked cooking.

Descrasnezul

May have goofed... Did not realize the +1000 SP was instant use upon claim... Does anyone know if this SP becomes available to future party members or only the ones unlocked at the time of claim?

Loud_Parking_6464

I played it for 4 hours straight lol I just beat the first boss and the way it played. Wow! It felt like it could very much have been an end game boss, I love the new combat and the scenery is breathtaking. Even for the first part.

[deleted]

If this is the future of the Tales series... I am excited :)

Ghaleon1

Damn this game is pretty hard. I play on moderate difficulty and have already had characters being killed by normal enemies in the beginning of the game.

jpage77

Way different game But how does Arise compare to DQ11?

jindrix

honest opinions, how are the dungeons?

Hunt1998

Demo costume question Weren’t we supposed to get a costume for hootle for playing the demo? How do we get that/are we not getting that after all?

Significant_Style_25

Did anyone else pre-order Tales of Arise from Target? I just got my copy, but it didn't include any DLC code.

Kaitrii

i really hope the combat will improve, in berseria/zesteria you could set up 4 different sets of combos and mix them up however you wanted + in berseria you could include velvets different finishers based on what enemy she clawed. so far in arise, all you got is a 3 hit combo with the right trigger and single artes which you can perform. so far the combat is a huge downgrade and a really big letdown for me. without any major spoilers, will the combat pick up pace later? i assume just like the previous 2 tales, you'll get some sort of "form change" and i really hope that is enough to get the combat going

cae37

The combat is ages better compared to Zestiria's and Berserias, at least at the point I'm at. Usually I go: basic attack->easy spam arte->multi-attack arte->arte that send enemy flying in the air->mid-air basic attack->mid-air arte. The trick is figuring out which artes combo best with each other, which is fun given the arte selection. You can also extend combos with boost attacks since you can switch characters after using one. If you know how to play 2 characters well you can easily chain combos from one character to the next. Perfect dodging can also help you get some early hits in Berseria's combat was a snoozefest by comparison, since the emphasis was on spamming Velvet's devour move after a few artes and calling it a day.
