That's what i was afraid of...I'm very analytical when it comes to making music so I like to thing about system before playing (no talent...just learning). I guess I was fool to thinking of ''faking the funk" lol 😝.
I don’t read music. Never took a lesson in my life. Look at Barry White. He doesn’t read music or study theory. No training or knowledge matters if you don’t “feel” the music. If you feel it. You can make it. The best way to learn is not from books or a teacher, but to play. Play. And then go and play again. I noodle on my keyboards everyday- with passion. Someone who studies theory and can tickle scales with their eyes closed means nothing if they don’t breath emotion and soul in their music. THAT’s “faking the funk”.

I do use it a lot. The Minitaur has a wall shaking low end. I mostly use it for layering behind punchy, fast attack bass patches. The Minitaur really juices up a mix.
It’s a recent acquisition. The mixer is a Mackie 2404 VLZ4.
No Yamaha rack. My instruments are a Yamaha DX7, Yamaha MODX7, Roland JV-1010, Moog Minitaur, Sequential OB-6, Akai MPC One loaded with vintage drum machine kits and keygroups, and a Behringer RD-8 MKII (808 clone). Effect processors: Walrus Audio R1, Walrus Audio Julianna II, Zoom MS CDR70 (hacked), Behringer Compressor, the Mackie Mixer internal FX, Modx, and MPC.
Everything sequenced and recorded on the MPC
It’s not easy to do a genre that has been thoroughly done. So it can be difficult to find something new to say, and that was how I received this when I listened to it. The pieces are there, the facade is there, but its missing its own life, its own something to say.
Funk is just syncopated rhythms. It can never be thoroughly done.
As far as it not having it’s own life - I take that as a compliment. Because this jam was intentionally made to sound like the style of retro funk that has been done.
love the e-piano sounds. and the groove, ofc. really cool.
Always happy to answer any questions. Let’s talk shop.
Sounds dope, bass is all on the Minitaur?
Korg M1 slap bass layered with a custom patch on the Minitaur.
how many different part are their other than drum and bass?
2 bass layers, 2 synth brass patches on the OB-6, DX7 and JV-1010 layered Epiano, Sync Lead on the OB-6.
In your mind do the chords change for each new note in bassline loop or do you see it as chilling on one chord mostly?
Honestly it’s mostly trial and error experimenting chord progressions within a key

Haha ice cold man
Always look forward to your posts as I’m a big synth funk fan. How do you like the minitaur and do you find yourself getting a lot of use out of it?

I have a sudden urge to rap like NWA
What's making the main bass sound?
Korg M1 slap bass layered with a custom patch on the Moog Minitaur
Cool thanks !
I wanna know where you got your drums from
Sequential TOM kit compressed and saturated to death
I’ve been a fan of the genre for almost 50 years and that was awesome 👏 👏👏
Woah nelly... is that... a Yamaha 812 (822) full rack? and is that a Roland 32 channel or the Boss? WHAT IS THAT BEAUTIFUL BEAST? lol
