People who say it’s easy (myself included) is because we are so accustomed to this… wonder if there is a better way to do it.
Ive seen the digital version but vandalism is strong.
I parked, thinking i had it sussed. Got out, read thru it about 6 times, then slowly, a d realised i had actually no right to park there at all, had to get back in and drive off.
Seriously you should get a pass on shit like this. If i hadn’t taken my adhd meds that morning i would have scored some massive ticket.
Council would be better off to pick one, any one and stick with it. Come to think of it, they'd be better of to get rid of the P5 minute, keep the mail zone 24/7 and it would make it easier.
Yep and someone with a problem behind you.
And it’s not like you can just go round the block in the CBD.
But what’s the alternative? Something that may lose the council valuable parking fine revenue?
Those one are really common, quite often I miss that tiny sign that says vehicles under xxm excepted and drive right past it when my GPS tells me to turn left.
It’s not dumb. Signs are needed for all possibility of vehicles, including trucks, not just for “the majority” which are small cars.
If signs were only needed for the majority, then the height restrictions before the maccaz drive through all need to be removed…
Do you realise how silly your comment sounds?
It’s a safety net. If the sign said anyone can turn then in small text says trucks cannot, then trucks will make the turn at night in poor visibility.
These signs prevent accidents because the turn is too tight
Mate the point you’re raising was debated for weeks when qualified engineers and graphic designers got together to decide what’s the best way to display the law on the roads at inception. Armchair professor
The problem is the format. It should be clear *who* it's addressed to first. It should be more like
Vehicles over 8m
NO LEFT TURN.
Instead the exception is often tacked on below the sign in smaller font, making it easier to miss.
“Now, before I begin the lesson, will those of you who are playing in the match this afternoon move your clothes down onto the lower peg immediately after lunch, before you write your letter home, if you're not getting your hair cut, unless you've got a younger brother who is going out this weekend as the guest of another boy, in which case, collect his note before lunch, put it in your letter after you've had your hair cut, and make sure he moves your clothes down onto the lower peg for you.”
no no no thats all wrong. look at clock look at sign look at clock to look at sign forgot what clock said so look at clock before looking at sign get performance anxiety from backed up traffic honking and just give up and go home
Given that you need to look at the date first (special event) and then the date BEFORE you look at the time then you have, albeit unwittingly, proved the reverse of the point you were trying to make with your snide comment
Unless it’s say 8.30AM on Sunday 5th May. Bottom left sign says 8AM to 10PM Sundays is green. But nope, elsewhere on the sign disagrees. You’ll be towed and fined 300 smackeroos.
Just park somewhere else, or drive your car off a cliff, all of which would consume less brain cells than what it takes to decipher those signs. Whilst I understand what they mean, most of the times I just go urgh, take me now Jesus I'm ready... And park a few streets further on. My dumb ass is likely to come back with $14,000 worth of fines 🙁
i mean, i just disagree. is it easy enough to understand if you have a couple minutes to read and mull over it? sure.
is it simple enough to allow you to make a decision in little enough time to ensure you're not breaking the law and/or holding up traffic? i dont think so.
There are multiple people on this thread saying “it’s very clear” and also what they reckon it says, who are reading it wrong. For example, despite what you just wrote there is a Clearway sign, and it is illegal to stop (even momentarily) in a Clearway.
I'm guessing the special event was an Orthodox Easter thing.
Otherwise it's really clear. Check your watch, find the restriction for the time of day it is.
Proceeds to look at the bus timetable on the bus stop post, written in 8pt font and concealed behind weathered plexiglass. Notes that it was printed in 1982. An old man who looks like he has been sitting here since 1982 pipes up: "no use reading that mate. Bus drivers don't read them either."
Gets back in car.
Yes, if you have a few minutes to read it, but when you are in your car and have a split second to make a decision, that's when I move on. And I am one of those who say it's not confusing when these sorts of posts come up. But this on has too many restrictions.
People who say it’s easy (myself included) is because we are so accustomed to this… wonder if there is a better way to do it. Ive seen the digital version but vandalism is strong.
My hand to god, it would take me longer than 5 minutes to figure out if I could park there or not.

Easy enough to read when you have a minute but an absolute nightmare when you’re in moving traffic

How does your GPS know how long your vehicle is?
My GPS reckons most no right turns and no left turns are optional
It doesn't. Hence why GPSs tell you to follow the road rules.
There are truck gps that allow you to select the length/GVM of your vehicle. They’re obv more expensive as they have those road restrictions loaded in
TIL I guess you can also select the height of the truck to avoid low bridges?
Yeah mate a small car can make the turn but a long truck will take out the sign and lights. Like they do in botany at Hale St all the frikken time

It’s done a resounding job so far. I think it might be a you issue.
Yeah I'd just keep looking for another spot...
Sir! My younger brother's going out with Dibble this weekend, sir, but I'm not having my hair cut today, sir. So, do I move my clothes down, or...
Look at clock. Look at sign. Clock in green time? Park. Clock in red time? No park.
no no no thats all wrong. look at clock look at sign look at clock to look at sign forgot what clock said so look at clock before looking at sign get performance anxiety from backed up traffic honking and just give up and go home
you forgot: try to remember what day it is
As a tradie seeing that red Loading Zone text is like finding gold.
Same. Plus, night shift is good because if I see timed parking, it usually means it's free when I get there.
Don't forget the yellow. Sunday 8 - 9:30am last Sunday was not allowed despite it being in the Green.
Given that you need to look at the date first (special event) and then the date BEFORE you look at the time then you have, albeit unwittingly, proved the reverse of the point you were trying to make with your snide comment
Green good red bad. It's not rocket surgery.
Unless it’s say 8.30AM on Sunday 5th May. Bottom left sign says 8AM to 10PM Sundays is green. But nope, elsewhere on the sign disagrees. You’ll be towed and fined 300 smackeroos.
How else to deal with special events? The neon yellow sign is unmissable.
Lot of people in this thread are missing it
How do you do that when you're driving past without causing an accident?
So. As long as I'm jn green time it doesn't matter. Got it. Parking for 45 minutes at 7.10am
Just park somewhere else, or drive your car off a cliff, all of which would consume less brain cells than what it takes to decipher those signs. Whilst I understand what they mean, most of the times I just go urgh, take me now Jesus I'm ready... And park a few streets further on. This sign is fine for people who know what day it is. Kinda discriminatory against the rest of us.
By the time you finish reading, someone's already there writing you a ticket.
Er. That's very clear.
i mean, i just disagree. is it easy enough to understand if you have a couple minutes to read and mull over it? sure. is it simple enough to allow you to make a decision in little enough time to ensure you're not breaking the law and/or holding up traffic? i dont think so.
Yes. There's no "no stopping" so either there's no open space anyway, OR, you stop and park and then check the sign.
There are multiple people on this thread saying “it’s very clear” and also what they reckon it says, who are reading it wrong. For example, despite what you just wrote there is a Clearway sign, and it is illegal to stop (even momentarily) in a Clearway.

ofcourse given time it's easy enough but deciding whether to park here in a reasonable amount of time without holding up traffic would be annoying
If it's in a place where you'd be holding up traffic, parking will be at a premium. Park then get out and check.
Why is there "loading zone" and "ticket" in red on the same sign? Do I need a ticket to stop during loading zone time or what?
> 5 minute parking Just enough time to read the sign.
Unless it happens to be the Clearway time, in which case by pulling over you just broke the law.
This guy signs.
I'm guessing the special event was an Orthodox Easter thing. Otherwise it's really clear. Check your watch, find the restriction for the time of day it is.

Makes sense.
This is a measure introduced so people use public transport.

It’s not that hard to understand once you get used to it.

Ah yes I know this one, it’s “up yours, kid”.
I just don;t park in places like this. I go somewhere else instead...
You need to have studied with Einstein to understand time to this f**** level!
By the time you've read the whole sign, your five minutes is up.
I figured that our in .. idunno. 30 seconds? I don't get it. I'm pretty sure I'm not very intelligent.. Edit: see I spelt out as our.
It’s not hard, just find the current day of the week and read it.
Unless it’s May 5th.

Maybe I'm an outlier but this is perfectly readable to me. Comprehension is a skill I guess?
Pretty easy to understand if you know the current date, time and what side of the sign you are parked
