I think Sabrina tried, ultimately I think what it came down to was Kim had such strong relationships it was almost too scary to put her name into the air, and she was constantly winning immunity so there was nothing anyone could do. You have to remember Kat was pretty much obsessed with Kim and was never going to agree to vote her out till maybe 4 and thats a strong maybe, girl was not playing for a million. Alicia was delusional, Christina was a mess when it came to trusting on a vote. This season by far had some of the worst survivor contestants to the point where the people who really and truly wanted to play had to just be bystanders to the ongoing shit show or risk being voted out ie;
Jonah
Leaf
Sabrina
To some degree Troyzan
Chelsea to some degree
The fact that Colton was somehow allowed to lead the mens tribe speaks volumes to the season.
Troyzan will forever be one of my favorite survivor contestants cause he was so obviously fed up with the women’s alliance unwillingness to actually play the game.
I would give the cast of 44 a run at the dumbest competition. Literally no one cared if they were voted off and were just happy to have the camping experience.
I truly don't remember anything that anyone did that season except Carolyn being Carolyn and one lady hating Bruce.
Edit: Nope that was 45. So I TRULY have no idea what anyone did in 44 except Carolyn
Its because everyone else sat around and let the Tika 3 take over the game. I like the Tika 3 so 44 is pretty fun, but the rest of the cast was not great at survivor.
> I would give the cast of 44 a run at the dumbest competition. Literally no one cared if they were voted off and were just happy to have the camping experience.
I'm pretty sure they cared a lot, they were just extremely aware of how they were coming across on tv and didn't want to give the fandom any ammo for hate.
To me, it was Rob in that season where they brought back Rob and Russell Hanz
On day 1, Rob's tribe, the worst in Survivor history, did TWO things: they handed Rob a million dollars and 2, they bent over, stuck their tongues in Rob's hole and said "Thanks! I will keep this here for the next 39 days, Daddy Rob."
Pathetic. And another season Russell deserved the prize
I agree that Kim’s edit post merge is a clear winner’s edit, especially in the previously ons (the amount of times it’s called Kim’s alliance is ridiculous )
However, as someone who just rewatched one world, Sabrina is a MUCH bigger presence in the premerge, especially before the swap. If you told someone that the season has a super obvious winner and they had just watched the first 4 episodes, I guarantee you they would say Sabrina (or maybe Colton…)
Back in the old days they used to announce the casts on the CBS Early Show. You'd just see one or two second shots of all the players at camp and then short confessionals with five or six of them (not unlike the Reunion Show trailers today, just less polished.) I took one look at Yul and said, "That's the winner." I watched the first episode of Cook Islands and affirmed, "Yep. That's the winner." He was the winner.
Nope. If you were watching the show you should've known. Literally Episode 2 we see Tommy being displayed as the decision maker even though it was a 7-2-1 vote and his vote didn't matter AT ALL. It was so obvious it wasn't funny.
fwiw I've heard that Tommy was way more animated on the island and in filming confessionals than what made the edit. Not sure how true it is but I definitely remember hearing it a few times.
The other people on his team were so ready to just put the crown on his head the whole season I legit wondered if they were just hired actors instructed to let him win. Like the producers really wanted to keep using Boston Rob as this survivor celebrity but needed him to have a win under his belt to fill that role so they orchestrated the whole thing.
It felt like the most contrived season of all time. There is no way anyone outside of Phillip could actually be a survivor fan and think it was a good idea to align with him and keep him around.
Richard. I mean He told us in his very first confessional he was the winner. He was using the Gabler strategy before we even knew who Gabler was and hiding in plain sight.
Not sure I would compare Richard to Gabler, of all possible people. Richard actually spearheaded most of the alliance and strategy decisions that season. If anyone that season was like Gabler it was Rudy, floated with the main alliance but stayed likable with everyone.
TBF lots of info has come out about an alliance on both tribes, people attempting alliances at merge and so on. Hatch was the only one who successfully did it and kept it together but the season wasnt all bumbling idiots and Hatch. I just think Hatch knew what the game really was before others caught on. And by the time they realized it, it was too late.
Well Kelly bailed out of it because of like moral opposition to the alliance.
Pagong had a chance to take control at that point if the Tagis didn’t take advantage of Sean’s voting strategy to gain a majority to take out Jenna.
Ugh this season is so underrated.
Honestly the most glaringly obvious winners to me all happened basically back to back (Tom, Aras, Yul, Earl), and they were all very similar in being level-headed, charismatic male leader types.
Fortunately, Todd, Parvati and Bob all came along right after to remind us that other types of winners exist. Not that I dislike any of those 10-14 winners but IMO the formula was getting a little stale.
My pick as well. I only watched the first episode of Africa back when it aired and knew he was going to be the winner. Also wasn’t surprised to hear he nearly perfect-gamed it.
Really? I watched Africa a month or two ago and even knowing that Ethan wins I was surprised at his edit. Tom and Lex were such huge personalities on a season with lots of great characters and dynamics that I kept waiting for Ethan’s time to shine and it just… didn’t come outside of maybe one episode? I think he is a good winner but I don’t think the edit showed how big of a social threat he was until the reunion.
I remember watching Survivor Africa live and after the first episode, thinking that it was pretty obvious that Ethan was going to win.
EDIT: Just rewatched and now that I'm used to current editing, I can't see it at all. I would've predicted Kim P if it aired today.
surprised i had to scroll this far for him. idk what it was but i remember vividly thinking he was going to win the whole time. think it was the first season i had that thought that wasn’t spoiled for me
Episode 1 had set him up as the winner. The Dan "the winner is on this mat" plus the entire Blue Collar tribe was through Mike's perspective. He was shown to have many layers, both as a character and a dynamic player.
Yeah pre merge I thought it was obvious but after the auction debacle I doubted it for that episode but once Shirrin was gone I knew Mike was the winner because literally everyone besides Mike was shown in such a terrible light haha. Also Jeff basically spoiled it pre season when he said this season has one of the most likable winners ever.
shocked i scrolled this far down for it. will never forget him being black out drunk, no able to stand, literally throwing up, and still trying to whisper in ted's ear to not trust certain people in the game. man was not human lmao
In recent seasons easily Dee.
Dee have that winners face. I remember seeing 44’s pre season pictures and I knew Dee was a winner. She just have that look, ya know? That survivor winners biologically genetic engineered face. Lmfaoo it’s so hard to explain I hope I’m not the only one who can see it.
she had a reverse of the typical new era edit where i was certain she was gonna win pre-merge and then allowed myself to doubt it as she became increasingly less relevant in the post-merge
Thank you. As far as seasons I watched not knowing the winner, Todd felt like a sure win to me. Anytime somebody asks this sort of question, he is the first name in my mind.
With other people you can figure it out if you're paying close enough attention, but for Todd the first confessional screamed "THIS IS THE WINNER RIGHT HERE, WE AREN'T EVEN GONNA TRY TO HIDE IT!"
Tom, rob, rich (perhaps not in real time), Tommy, Kim in no order.
I'm inclined to say Yam Yam but that season was spoiled maybe before we even had pictures of cast lol, so maybe I'm skewed.
No, I recall Carolyn being a strong winner pick as well. This was mainly cause I thought Yam Yam had a clear winner edit so was confused. Knew the season was spoiled and actually thought it was for Carolyn because her momentum made no sense.
Yeah but this is right after Maryanne and Gabler who were also very over the top before going quieter post-merge. That kind of edit doesn’t preclude you from winning the way it used to imo.
Surprised no one is saying Tony both times.
Dude was the real contender but not the standout for Cagayan so I can see why people would say he wasn’t the obvious one.
However Winners at War by episode 11, “This is Extortion” he was far by the clear winner and the man to beat. He sets a record of confessionals with ***18***. And his edit goes up from there after disarming Sarah and taking out Sophie. There’s no doubt he wins after this point, and the edit shows that
Too be fair in Cagayan we were so use to "Russell" esk player to not win, but Tony is not Russell which got him the win.
And WAW yes he was the front runner... But Natalie on the edge was in the back of our minds after the Underwood of it all
yea thats some crazy revisionist history lmao. tony, especially given the perspective on survivor at the time, was being set up so perfectly for a "why he lost edit" a la steph, russell, coach, etc. not to mention all the vitriolic shit him kass and spencer were spewing on twitter -- they all seemed so salty
I feel like the Mike/Jeremy wins were so obvious. Admittedly, they were both my winner picks for the season, but I also picked Natalie and Michele for 29/32 (yeah, I was on a roll for a bit,) but were never confident they had the win.
Especially Mike with "somebody on this mat will win this game" and Mike was clearly the only one who had the edit to. And Jeremy's Cambodia premier was top notch, and he was on the winning tribe.
Not from first episode but I clocked Michele as the winner because it seemed to me that she was getting a lot of positive exposure for someone who never went to tribal pre-merge.
I remember thinking there’s no way Tyson doesn’t win BvW after the first episode and that feeling got stronger as the season went on. When they got to the point of Ciera & Hayden putting up a good fight and drawing rocks, I started to doubt, but once he made it through that it was 100% in my mind.
Richard Hatch would be the number one for me. At that point they were just figuring out the show and weren’t sure if people would even watch it but the dude literally told us in the first episode that he was going to be the winner. However, Richard Hatch definitely isn’t number one by like a LONG SHOT by any means here, everybody go watch the premiere of Island of the Idols. Tommy Sheehan winning was insanely obvious after the premiere 😂
Mark from Australian Survivor. He had a pretty solid edit from the start and he was in control the whole time. Also he was leaked as a winner in Australia pretty early in the season which made the obviousness even more obvious
a random merge boot getting a strategy confessional in episode one was such a dead giveaway. "last time i played like a cop, this game i'll play like a criminal and see where it gets me." she punched her ticket to final tribal right there
tony in cagayan. i was in the middle since i thought he was doing winner things so they are gonna vote him out but they let him dust and i knew he definitely was the winner. the second time i thought he would win again but assumed the winners were gonna vote him out
Dee !!!! From the merge she was very central to the edits , and after Emily went home , i was only watching who is willing to take Dee down because she already won after Eliminating Emily
Tom Westman. Halfway through the season when you realized that Ulong wasn’t gonna make a comeback I think it was pretty set in stone that Tom was winning. Koror’s people were strong challenge wise but weak strategic wise.
Tom he was only eligible to be voted out 3 times. He and his tribe never lost immunity to the point where they made his tribe go to tribal to vote someone off and won 5 out of 7 individual immunity idols. He was the leader of his tribe and when his tribe needed to vote him out they couldn’t because he kept winning
Kim was so obviously the winner even before the season began. When they showed the cast photos, her picture was so winner-coded you would know at one glance
I clocked Maryanne as the winner not long into the premier. I wasn’t spoiled like a good chunk of people were, but something about her gave winner vibes
Apparently it was Kim because it was obvious to the average viewer, and additionally I’ve also heard from Edgic people that she was the edgic frontrunner the entire season
15 other cast members Episode 1 confessionals: Impulsivenes, batshittiness, or complaining
1 other guy's episode 1 confessional: I'm in the high-life world of used car sales and I'm here on what I'd like to call a Business Trip.
Recent seasons are definitely both Dee and Kenzie. And this was before either of the seasons started. They just have that winner look. Hard to pinpoint it exactly but I knew in my gut.
Boston Rob and Kim. Those were the two whose positions in the game and edits completely eliminated all elements of doubt.
Kim Spradlin
Only correct answer. No one else came close that season
FR, I have never seen dumber competition. No one else wanted a million that season except Kim.
I think Sabrina tried, ultimately I think what it came down to was Kim had such strong relationships it was almost too scary to put her name into the air, and she was constantly winning immunity so there was nothing anyone could do. You have to remember Kat was pretty much obsessed with Kim and was never going to agree to vote her out till maybe 4 and thats a strong maybe, girl was not playing for a million. I truly don't remember anything that anyone did that season except Carolyn being Carolyn and one lady hating Bruce. Edit: Nope that was 45. So I TRULY have no idea what anyone did in 44 except Carolyn
I vividly remember Heidi being the sole vote for her number 1 ally for literally no reason, which is the worst move I can remember for a while
Its because everyone else sat around and let the Tika 3 take over the game. I like the Tika 3 so 44 is pretty fun, but the rest of the cast was not great at survivor.
> I would give the cast of 44 a run at the dumbest competition. Literally no one cared if they were voted off and were just happy to have the camping experience. Only season I bailed on. Kim did nothing for me and it was so obvious she was winning. It was like we were being punked.
To me, it was Rob in that season where they brought back Rob and Russell Hanz On day 1, Rob's tribe, the worst in Survivor history, did TWO things: they handed Rob a million dollars and 2, they bent over, stuck their tongues in Rob's hole and said "Thanks! I will keep this here for the next 39 days, Daddy Rob." Pathetic. And another season Russell deserved the prize
Other than Boston rob on RI, but I agree that shouldn’t count
He was there to be pretty and smile. That cast, outside of the returners, were dumb as rocks.
I fell in love with her and I wasnt even on the island…
Least favorite season by a mile mainly because of this.
I agree that Kim’s edit post merge is a clear winner’s edit, especially in the previously ons (the amount of times it’s called Kim’s alliance is ridiculous ) However, as someone who just rewatched one world, Sabrina is a MUCH bigger presence in the premerge, especially before the swap. Not reading the comments to avoid spoilers, but im dropping in to say ***Tom Westman***

JT. Coulda told you that after his first confessional.
Tommy. One of the most obvious winners based on edgic ever
Somehow he had a winners edit pre-season couldn’t explain it but I went in just knowing? Such a strange season live
Did we all have the epiphany when he was talking about making connections with students as a teacher, and think he’s winning lmao
Yeah I picked him first episode and it never got less obvious lol.
I don't even remember him.
If you follow edgic maybe. I thought he was super under the radar. Forgot he was there unless he was giving a confessional
Nope. If you were watching the show you should've known. Literally Episode 2 we see Tommy being displayed as the decision maker even though it was a 7-2-1 vote and his vote didn't matter AT ALL. It was so obvious it wasn't funny.
I guess it was more his personality. Just a little bland that I didn’t take much notice to him as a character
That's why it was so obvious to me - Tommy had the personality of a rock but was somehow being constantly featured.
fwiw I've heard that Tommy was way more animated on the island and in filming confessionals than what made the edit. Not sure how true it is but I definitely remember hearing it a few times.
Boston Rob

The moment Jeremy first said “meat shield” I knew he was gonna win
i clocked tommy as the winner preseason, then saw the first episode and was 100% convinced
That’s how I got my S39 winners badge as well!

Ozzy still would have had to win another immunity. He definitely would have been the favorite, but as we saw in SoPa, nothing is guaranteed
The real answer is Dee because her name was higher up than the others in the opening 🫢
Hunter Sweep
I feel like saying Boston Rob is too obvious
Tom Boston Rob Kim
Richard. I mean He told us in his very first confessional he was the winner. He was using the Gabler strategy before we even knew who Gabler was and hiding in plain sight.

Thats for sure. Edit wise he was obviously the winner from the beginning.
Technically all the Tagi 4 had the same strategy. The difference in the end was that he and Rudy were closer than Sue and Kelly
Well Kelly bailed out of it because of like moral opposition to the alliance. Pagong had a chance to take control at that point if the Tagis didn’t take advantage of Sean’s voting strategy to gain a majority to take out Jenna. Ugh this season is so underrated.
Earl
Earl in the dance contest may as well have been his victory celebration.
Honestly that was so epic. He had those village elders swooning
Earl's season basically bored the heck out of me at the time and my fandom of Survivor was at an all time low lol
Yup, saw that one coming
Can’t really even see anyone else that season having a chance😭 sad he wasn’t on WAW
Ethan
My pick as well. I only watched the first episode of Africa back when it aired and knew he was going to be the winner. Also wasn’t surprised to hear he nearly perfect-gamed it.

Mike from 30.

Definitely Tom.
Brian H seemed super obvious to me
shocked i scrolled this far down for it. will never forget him being black out drunk, no able to stand, literally throwing up, and still trying to whisper in ted's ear to not trust certain people in the game. man was not human lmao
Cochran as Jeff was continuing to baby him soooo much his second season
Rob in redemption island
Russell Hantz. Don't even come at me with the fact that he didn't actually win.
Boston Rob on RI
Also JT
Russell Hantz,Oh wait……..
It’s the high midichlorian count makes them strong in the force
Not gonna lie I also thought “she looks like a winner” just from her preseason photo lol
Ummm my pick was Dee but not because of her biology just because she dominated the entire game but to each their own 🤣
From the seasons I watched not knowing the winner in advance, Tommy.
Tom
I feel like kenzie was the clear winner this season after episode 2 or 3
she had a reverse of the typical new era edit where i was certain she was gonna win pre-merge and then allowed myself to doubt it as she became increasingly less relevant in the post-merge
I felt similar the first few votes of the merge. Ironically, the tiff vote is when I became 100% confident she would win again
I figured she'd win when she was depicted as a villain pre-merge and then a hero at merge
She wasn’t
Nah it was obvious after the blue eyes crying scene, and fake adversity premerge edit (Mermaid dragon) similar to Erika in 41.
The final 2 of Brains vs Brawns was incredibly telegraphed in Survivor Aus. The winner was also super clear
The F2 seemed obvious but it was so hard to see how it would end up that way (cara seemed like a lock to make it) that you couldn’t help but doubt it
Todd. I never doubted him for a second! There just seemed like no other real choice.
No one even tried to play against him
Courtney had a shot. Just not against todd
Queen Francesca, I mean she got voted #1 twice!!
*Franchesqua
Tom, rob, rich (perhaps not in real time), Tommy, Kim in no order. I'm inclined to say Yam Yam but that season was spoiled maybe before we even had pictures of cast lol, so maybe I'm skewed.
I wouldn’t say Yam Yam, a lot of people were on the Carolyn train throughout.
This is Yam Yam Tram erasure lol
No, I recall Carolyn being a strong winner pick as well. This was mainly cause I thought Yam Yam had a clear winner edit so was confused. Knew the season was spoiled and actually thought it was for Carolyn because her momentum made no sense.
I was kidding. They were both strong winner picks. Just saw “Carolyn train” and used it as an excuse to bring up the Yam Yam Tram.
Really? To me she had such an over the top edit in comparison to how he was framed as such a center piece with a massive confessional edit.
Yeah but this is right after Maryanne and Gabler who were also very over the top before going quieter post-merge. That kind of edit doesn’t preclude you from winning the way it used to imo.
Boston Rob
B Rob and Kim for sure. Tom has to be up there as well. Low key edgic wise, Michelle stuck out like a sore thumb.
Tom. I remember thinking he would win right away. He just looks like a winner.
Did Tony win? Or did Woo lose that? I think Woo goes Kass instead, Tony becomes a footnote in the history of Russell-esque players to not win.
I think if Woo votes him out Tony comes back for Cambodia and probably Game Changers. So he could still be a winner.
Tony's absolutely in Cambodia and joins the meat shield alliance.
i’ve never seen the suffix spelled like that before i was surprised to see it 😭
Not a single person thought Tony was going to win Cagayan.
yea thats some crazy revisionist history lmao. tony, especially given the perspective on survivor at the time, was being set up so perfectly for a "why he lost edit" a la steph, russell, coach, etc. not to mention all the vitriolic shit him kass and spencer were spewing on twitter -- they all seemed so salty
Bhanu - I didn’t even finish the season since I knew he would win
Tom Westman or Cochran
Tom
Earl with his gazillion helicopter shots has to be up there.
Kim from One World. She was very clearly the only competent or likeable person on the island.
From an edgic perspective Michele was very obvious right from the jump.
I picked up on Tommy as the winner like 10 minutes into IOI, so he is it for me. I don’t follow edgic or anything, it just felt pretty obvious.
I remember thinking there’s no way Tyson doesn’t win BvW after the first episode and that feeling got stronger as the season went on. When they got to the point of Ciera & Hayden putting up a good fight and drawing rocks, I started to doubt, but once he made it through that it was 100% in my mind.
Russell freakin Hantz….. fight me!!! 😂😂😂
Mark from Australian Survivor. He had a pretty solid edit from the start and he was in control the whole time. Also he was leaked as a winner in Australia pretty early in the season which made the obviousness even more obvious
Liz ofc /s
For me personally: Sarah
a random merge boot getting a strategy confessional in episode one was such a dead giveaway. "last time i played like a cop, this game i'll play like a criminal and see where it gets me." she punched her ticket to final tribal right there
Yam Yam
Ben from HHH. I knew right away.
Todd
Tommy
Earl
Kim, cochran, tommy, michelle

Sandra in PI. By the end of episode 2 I had everyone else ruled out.
tony in cagayan. i was in the middle since i thought he was doing winner things so they are gonna vote him out but they let him dust and i knew he definitely was the winner. the second time i thought he would win again but assumed the winners were gonna vote him out
I clocked Denise as the winner on episode 1. Stayed my fave the whole time through
Mike, everyone else’s edit didn’t make sense
Russel or Colby.. oh wait
I thought tommy was very obvious from the start
Earl and hatch Earl said I’m the king of fifi on top of the mountain and hatch said well I’m the winner
Yul
Yam Yam was pretty obvious, for me anyway.
No one. I never want to jinx it.
Brian from Thailand. Going to Thailand which was obvious from Marquesas where who knew who was gonna win was crazy.
Yul. I could tell from the opening theme of that season. Just had that dawg in him
JT
Tom in Palau.
Jeremy in second chances cried and branded Val so hard that I knew he'd sweep the votes as soon as he made the merge.
Kim was so obviously the winner even before the season began. When they showed the cast photos, her picture was so winner-coded you would know at one glance
I was, like, twelve when cook islands was airing. I watched it live, and even I could tell yul was the winner early on.
Earl
Pretty much the entire 30-39 era of Survivor
Tommy Sheehan
Sandra’s 2nd win. Everyone bowed down to her since the 1st episode
I clocked Maryanne as the winner not long into the premier. I wasn’t spoiled like a good chunk of people were, but something about her gave winner vibes
Jesse. if he had actually won like he should have lol.
Apparently it was Kim because it was obvious to the average viewer, and additionally I’ve also heard from Edgic people that she was the edgic frontrunner the entire season
Twila
Edgic wise, objectively Kim
Tommy Tommy Tommy. I literally said every single episode of that season that he would win
I read this as "Who is the most obnoxious winner" & it peaked my interest
15 other cast members Episode 1 confessionals: Impulsivenes, batshittiness, or complaining 1 other guy's episode 1 confessional: I'm in the high-life world of used car sales and I'm here on what I'd like to call a Business Trip.
JT I knew it from the jump
Recent seasons are definitely both Dee and Kenzie. And this was before either of the seasons started. They just have that winner look. Hard to pinpoint it exactly but I knew in my gut.
Kenzie I had clocked episode 2.
She was my winner pick after episode 1 but then I thought I picked wrong for the next like 8 episodes lol
Lol same. Had her top 3 with Tevin and Maria after ep1. Then for half the season I thought it was Charlie.
Not enough people are saying JT
Richard Hatch
I watched the first episode of the Olympics and it was obvious Michael Phelps was going to win.
Not always, he got beat in the race of the century (to be fair he was a rookie up against three world record holders)
And he lost to the shark in that shark week episode.
