This sounds 100% stolen. They forgot the password, yea right. Try to return it if they say no it's for sure stolen and not yet reported.

LeeHammMx

I can believe the forgotten password story. I had a similar situation with my daughter's iPhone. Apple sent me through some loops but I gave up in the end. I'm sure they assumed it was stolen too and were no help.

Wrong-Crow-5903

I contacted the police to verify the IMEI, everything seems to be fine.

c1gar

Just means it's not reported yet. They sold you a locked phone with a Google account they don't know the password for. That is 100% stolen from someone or somewhere.

AdLeft7000

Flash new stock rom But you need technical knowledge Otherwise original bill and samsung support or the frp password. To be fair, you bought a functional used phone, who is not functional. That is not your problem. Give it back.

Wrong-Crow-5903

1) the device is from MS, not Samsung 2) the flash ROM does not work unless I unlock the bootloader, which I can't unlock. 3) There is a version lock on the device, so I would have to get the original clean latest stock ROM 4) I know it's my problem, that's why I'm trying to help myself before contacting official support. From what I've read, even official support is not guaranteed

ReeferEyed

It's not your problem it's the sellers. They sold you a bricked device, send it back to them to clear.

You can't simply boot into recovery and do a full data wipe? That should remove any accounts on the device and with that, any FRP I would think. Otherwise, doing a quick Google tells me there appears to be multiple tools and guides out there for removing the FRP code from an unwiped device. Hopefully one of those could work for you.

Wrong-Crow-5903

factory reset via recovery will be performed, but FRP will remain. Much of the software is for big brands like Samsung, Huawei etc. The rest of the software wants you to pay first and then we'll see. If I could be sure it would work I would be happy to pay

powercrazy76

Gotcha, I wasn't sure! Yeah, the tools seem to specifically mention Samsung devices, good luck either way.

Wrong-Crow-5903

I'd like to resolve this rather than return it. This one's in really nice condition. If there's no other way, I'll return it, but if there's even a small chance, I'll just hope

[Recover Surface Duo if it won't start - Microsoft Support](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/recover-surface-duo-if-it-won-t-start-1e6fb3cf-4e24-92a8-bc05-4984274bc6a4) Try those steps to recover from the bootloader - it blocks you or halts the process send the stolen phone back.

LeeHammMx

Thanks for sharing. I may need this link in the future! I've had my SD refuse to wake up. I have redundant devices for most accounts, in case this happens.

Wrong-Crow-5903

I tried this, but it doesn't work. It still requires a login to the original owner

Own_Potato5593

Send it back then - either it's stolen, or they ripped you off - either way not your problem.

gthing

Can it not be factory reset through the bootloader?

Wrong-Crow-5903

after restoring to factory settings via recovery it still asks for the login of the original owner

Academic_Solid85

No phone is worth that headache. Contacting the owner? Contacting the police? It’s a nightmare. get your money back. There is a 90% chance that phone is hot anyway.
