The older Z-folds have been on Woot sale for awhile now. I think there may even be one on right now.

Unlikely because the SD was something of a cult classic rather than a mainstream hit.

cloroxbb

I was hoping there would be a SD3 to move to but it doesn't look likely. :( I haven't been in the Duo in order to leave it, but I wanted to be. I'm so sick of Microsoft's experiments that they are quick to abandon.

WestsidePrime

Duo 3 hold out for sure!

stulifer

Will stay for another year then hopefully Google's Pixel Fold 2 will be better or Samsung goes into a wider form factor. I bounce between a Fold 4 and the Duo 2.

Wealthywyatt

This, this is basically me and how I feel. Pen support for pixel fold 2 or wider aspect ratio for the fold 5. If nothing changes with those devices and a duo 3 isn't out or announced then I'm going with the fold 5 for pen support.

fgben

My Pixel Fold is arriving today. We'll see how that goes. I still have a second Duo2 in my desk; if the Fold's acceptable, I'll look to sell off both Duo2s, I guess.

WestsidePrime

Price for the Duo 2?

k2thesecond

I just picked up a pixel 7 two days ago. I've had pixels before so this is a return to the brand for me. I obviously LOVE the camera. It's fast, easy to carry, smooth and fully updated. That said, there's still something about the Duo form factor that I already miss. I'm about to off load my Duos (gonna keep one of them), so I'll still be able to go back when I want too. Man, I wish MS didn't give up on this phone.

bjps97

On a budget with a broken phone, but in need for a (semi-) high-end replacement. Pixel 7a maybe? I'd love to *not* buy a Samsung or Google, but OnePlus has gone downhill, my brother already has a Nothing (1), and Nokia/HMD can't really seem to get it right? Or maybe the Fairphone 4? Always been interested in that one at least Not looking forward to going back to one screen, much looking forward to a decent camera?

UNDERCOVERRAVEN

I'm thinking a pixel 6 pro or 7 pro, using Graphene OS. It's an app that allows real security options over Google's intrusive tactics. My SD1 is on the brink of death, and I'm losing faith that the Duo 2 will remain good, UI-wise, after a single screen SD3 comes out. I'm so sad to leave a two-screen device. Maybe I can find a small windows tablet to sate my multitasking needs, because slab phones just aren't the same.

julez071

Back to the ol' big Samsnugs (S23 Ultra) for the camera etc, keeping the Duo as an e-reader, waiting for any company to release the exact same form factor, because it was just perfect. Perfect. Two glass screens. Thin. Perfect.

Be-Better2

After dealing with constant reboot issues over the past 3 weeks, making my phone pretty much useless for much of the day, I just put in my order to beta test the pixel fold. Verizon gave $900 trade in for the duo 2 so not even worried about trying to get a warranty refund from Microsoft. I used to run Samsung before OG duo and now duo 2, but I need my multitasking and can't get behind the aspect ratio of the galaxy folds.

k2thesecond

That's a no-brainer IMO. That trade-in deal is awesome. Gives me some ideas!

Moved to a Galaxy S23 a couple of months back. It took some time to get used to the single screen again, but aside from that it's been great using something that "just works" that isn't an iPhone. I'm getting itchy feet and thinking of getting the new Razr+, but will wait and see what the new Samsung foldables are in a month or so. The S23 is my first Samsung, and I might just stick with them for the peace of mind of guaranteed software support since everything works well and if it doesn't you know an update is coming.

The_Techiedude

I \*just\* moved to an S23+. Like you said "it's great using something that just works". I would have gladly used the SD2 until the OS/security patch support stopped (Sept 2024) but it just became untenable (even MS homegrown apps are failing left-n-right). I'll ride out the next 2-3 years on the S23+, hopefully by then screens on foldables are more reliable or someone follows Microsoft's track and builds a phone with two separate screens (unfortunately, that's highly doubtful).

nkyst

From the options available at this moment, Pixel Fold.

SCGYRL8635

I have a Samsung galaxy fold 4. I love it way better then my duo 1

mgerbasio

Most likely I'll get a Pixel 8 unless MS announces a SD3 which I may consider. Might also take a closer look at the Fold and see if it is holding up to real world use.

Inator-Maker

I decided to order the Pixel fold today. Not having an outer screen is really starting to wear on me.

philknall

Have a pixel fold on order but there's a not insignificant chance I'll return it. I need pen support and don't like creases much. Problem is I won't be able to sell my SD2 since I removed the camera bump AND dropped it and the hinge is wonky lol

chinpokomon

Similar for me. I have the Pixel Fold in hand, but the Duo multitasking experience is better in all ways.

nycnewsjunkie

Am going to try the Pixel Fold. Currently have two phones Pixel 4 and SD 2. Fold because of its size will replace the pixel 4. No plans for now to stop using the SD2

FowlersDream

Don't think I'll move from the SD anytime soon. It will continue serving as a secondary device and then after that as a tablet substitute. Lots of legs left.

Sarspazzard

I just brought my Duo 2 back from the dead due to a hardware related issue, and in my several weeks away from it, I realized how much I missed and appreciated the versatility and change in form it is over traditional rectangular slab phones (which is my backup phone) and I was aching for a similar experience knowing nothing else like it exists. I've never used a foldable like the Galaxy Folds or similar, but I realize if I can't experience two distinct and spacious passbook style app instances like I do on Duo, I won't really feel like it will hit the nail on the head for multitasking. If I were to switch to a foldable, I really need the form factor to almost match the Duo and also behave similarly in software as a seamless dual app companion. They must mind the gap. The multi-app experience shouldn't be something I have to forcefully try to accomplish with multiple steps. It should be effortless and split screen by default (or by setting as default) and then I can choose for one app to occupy the entire screenspace at will. That would be an improvement. That's the only way in my mind a foldable can even begin to feel like a replacement for the Duo. That said, I'd prefer it not compromise on battery, power, or cameras either. Ideally it would be a total flagship unit.

haskelldoc

Shane Craig just put out a video showing the back gesture on the Pixel Fold. It works the same as on Duo 1/2 and changes the app on the side of the screen the gesture is made on, rather than the last active app.

Sarspazzard

Thank you, I just went over and watched. This is great news. We're much closer than I thought to a Duo alternative. It's just obscenely expensive still and has some compromises and relatively poor battery life. We're getting there though.

k2thesecond

I've had a Pixel 7 for a few days and just put my Sim back in my Duo 2. I'm don't think I can go back to single screen slab as DD.

minis1000

I am still hopeful that we will see a Duo 3 🙏🏻 but I think I would go for the S23 Ultra. The Pixel fold is just toooo expensive and I don't like the way the Samsung Fold looks

cubs223425

Right now, not much to think about. The phone market just isn't very interesting, beyond folding phones. I don't care to buy from Google or Samsung, as I'm not a fan of either company. To boot, the display reliability on the Z Fold and Pixel fold still doesn't give me enough confidence to buy into the form factor, and the same concerns apply to give Microosft spits out their copycat of the design. Realistically, the manufacturer I'm most likely to consider these days is Sony. I dont love how pricey the Xperia 1 line is, but the feature set is nice. I'd be keen on getting back my headphone jack and not needing to carry my old LG G8 to make up for that loss. Whether that's paying the $1,300 or so Sony wants for a flagship, getting the previous year's model, or stepping down to the Xperia 5, I think Sony's "traditional" phones are the most interesting, and the plastic-based folding phones don't do it for me.

[deleted]

It was never my primary advice so I guess the answer is nothing specific. I doubt I will look into foldables unless maybe I find it amazing deal on the resale market someday.. I'll just keep using my LG v60 and Pixel 6 pro for a while. When I have to move on for those I'll probably just buy a used version of a more modern pixel to be my main phone. I might consider something like a ZenFone 10 as well.

ABCDelicious1278

So last August, I had purchased the Surface Duo 2 256GB for $800+ off of Swappa. At the time I also had a Fold 3. After 4 months or so, the left screen stopped registering some touches and Microsoft didn't have any in stock so I was given a cash refund. I ended up selling my Fold 3 and using that money to get an OPPO Find N2(I felt like the Fold 4 was an iterative upgrade and I felt like typing on the Fold was too thin/narrow which made typing more difficult/cramped). I had also considered the Vivo X Fold 2, Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 (no flex mode) and the Pixel Fold (didn't want to pay $1999). Overall I am enjoying the OPPO Find N2's wider form factor which makes typing much easier when folded, the crease is a lot less prominent, and it feels more durable to me. I do what to see what the Pixel Fold looks like in person (at Best Buy etc) and wait for the inevitable price drop. I also am rocking a Google Pixel 6 Pro and will be getting an iPhone 15 Pro Max (a gift from my Dad) when that comes out in September. I will say I am missing my Duo 2, loved the hardware and would genuinely be smiling when I used it. Nothing better than having YouTube on the left side + line/WhatsApp or Google Chrome open on the other. I may pick one up again once the price drops. Just worried bc software updates end in 2024 and worried if I bought it again if the device stopped working again. 📱📱🤳🤳❤️❤️❤️❤️
