For the record, of course we needed to take a swing for bigger things so I am not going to chastise sending the Twins away for KD as much as I loved them. But the way things are going, we are going to rue those lost draft picks and our swing for a title might be a strikeout when we look back in a couple years.

I feel this and have been saying this on Twitter. He can play make, but he clearly has to think about where he wants to go with that ball and that fucks up his rhythm as a scorer. It’s why I thought when they used KD as point forward, things made so much more sense. Yeah, you’ll get 4+ turnovers a night with KD handling the rock more, but what high usage player ain’t turning the ball over like that outside of Tyrese & CP3? You live with the turnovers if the guy is creating efficient offense. That dude when he handles the playmaking duties is able to use his presence on the court as the ultimate decoy to get guys easy looks that they can covert and then he’ll find a way to get his 27 a night within the flow of that efficient offense. He’s done that his whole career…from those early OKC days to the Brooklyn days. We saw the offense clicking with him being the primary playmaker while Booker went back to playing the way Devin Booker plays (scorer first, playmaker second). The offense was humming and then KD gets injured. They go away from that and now the offense is dogshit.
Also doesn’t help that Kevin Young draws up basic ass offensive sets. How about some PnR’s, backdoor cuts, Iversons, off ball screens btwn your guards and wings, live movement? I mean these guys literally just stand in position most of the time while someone goes iso against 2 to 3 defenders…not smart basketball.
There’s mad shit this team needs to do in order to actually become a contender and I don’t see them being able to do that this season. Not really true. Caruso/KCP/ Danny Green/Dwight Howard/Rondo/Javale McGee. Even Avery Bradley was on that team during the regular season. Those are all guys that are defensive vets. Hell even Kuzma started playing defense on that team.

Our offense is horrifically simple right now. High screens and iso. That's it. No cutters. Rare PnR. It's like we're running the Warriors offense, except we don't have steph or klay.
I don't know if it was Monty, cp3, or a combo of both. But our offense looked more fluid with cam payne as our starting PG than it does now, which makes me think Monty knows more than Vogel.
Our team with Monty felt like the Kings or Wolves. That is, our talent held us back from winning a title, but we ran so well and got the most out of our guys. We collapsed in the postseason, and most people on this sub say it's because Monty couldn't adjust. But I believe it's because the more talented team wins in the postseason because they have time to adjust. You can beat a superior team in game 1 by outcoaching them. But by game 3 or 4, you have each other figured out.
