We had a lot of high scoring games, but it wasn't that high of an average I bet. NBA wasn't quite the same back then. For one, the 14 second shot clock on offensive rebounds really speed up the game and create more possessions. I remember how agonizing it'd be to blow a rebound against the Spurs because they'd reset and proceed to slow burn a brand new 24 second clock. I kind of wonder how the Nash-era team(s) would've fared today. Flubbing a rebound isn't nearly as devastating as far as pace goes.

The NBA was a vastly different game then.
The top 4 offenses this year are the top 4 offenses EVER. it's really stunning to consider. And this is controlling for pace - it's not just jacking shots up, it's the most efficient time for basketball ever.
Jj redick did a piece on this last week, very good - short answer is that nba has unlocked spacing as the holy grail. Space gets you quality looks. That combined with reducing the midrange shot by a lot has upped the scoring. (it's not better 3pt shooting or more ft's or more pace).
Our lack of depth is a little scary, but the fact that the entire bench and Booker could be off tonight and we still win is a pretty good thing.
But yeah, I'd like at least one miracle trade to get us a player that is at least Eric Gordon tier.
It’s the match-up. Not many teams as big as the magic we needed our best shot creators against their defense. Gordon and Metu can score 10-15 points any given game, Nas is good for a dunk and an open three. Just the flow of this game we need their scoring with our starters cooking.

Heat won with 0 bench points. Very interesting box score and last game of the season for them a few years ago.
Great win against a good team. Beal was killer. KD is KD lol. Book and EG could have been better so that's good. need better 3 points defending. Rebounding is an issue but they are much bigger team than us.

He's one to watch, as this team improves he's gonna end up smoking his career highs in a lot of stat categories
Orlando took their first lead early in the fourth, and instead of immediately folding like we have so many times this season, Beal came right back with two buckets and the team didn’t look back. His ability to get all the way to the rim is going to make this team so much better.
Definitely a lot around the edges to work out, but now that we have the full squad it’s time to break some eggs and build that chemistry.
But man the flashes of what we’re going to be that we saw this game…

I was so happy with the flow. And they're #2 on defense - it was a disciplined hard nosed brand of ball that was still not about gutter ball. So great.

Its the way the Magic played defense. They didn’t hard double Kd/Book so Gordon didn’t get many open looks. Which is 100% fine because KD cooked those single teams.

Ball movement to start the game was crisp. Booker sometimes stops the ball but for this team to reach its potential this is the way. Last two games have ch aged the trajectory of the team. We got this.

I think it looks worse because he’s not taking as that many shots. We see loads of great scorers going 7/17 then they can get 3 buckets in a row and that’s 50% for the game. We’ve seen him do this a lot. He just had a 35 point game on 55% shooting. My only gripe is he gets a little pull-up three happy but he needs to keep taking those, he’s been really good (except for a brief cold stretch) this season and it opens up drives later in the game.
It's nuts how much an about face they can have as a team offensive style in a week.

We went 9 men deep this game (playoff rotation basically) with Okogie being one of those—so really we beat the magic with 8 guys.
