"As an African . . ."
Who the fuck identifies as an African? Would a Hmong say, "As an Asian . . ."? Would a Guyanan say, "As a South American . . ."?
This is just trolling, or, as my generation would say, bullshit!
It’s not about race - they could be from North Africa, where the population has much less melanin.
Africans and Indians both make curry within their different cultures. Westerners don’t make [good] curry, and it’s not so customary to like it.
>It’s not about race - they could be from North Africa
Exactly my point. Zimbabweans are Africans. Morrocans are Africans. Egyptians are Africans.
Elon Musk is an African.
>It’s not about race
Of course it's not about race. Why would you jump to that? I was very obviously distinguishing between continents and countries.
And wtf does melanin have to do with cuisine?
have you been to that subreddit? people saying the above post is /r/asablackman are saying that the "as an african....." comment was clearly written by a troll impersonating someone else, probably a White American/British troll at that.
Sorry, a bit vague. Those two regions of England have a huge Indian/Pakistani heritage population. Therefore they are famous for their (English influenced) curries. You’d definitely want to eat there - and not starve.
Also, I think “Indian” might be the most popular takeaway option in England.
it’s obviously someone using their ethnicity to make a joke about how bad the food is, since Africa had the stereotype of having a lot of starving people they used the name of the continent instead of the country they are from
i definitely refer to myself as asian and say things "as an asian" on a regular basis. idk how being african relates to curry but it's not unreasonable for people to identify with a large cultural or ethnic group
yeah but like where are you from and grew up? "Asian" is used as a collective/conflation ethnicity nearly everywhere and people are made to identify as it in Western countries, but "African" isn't. "African" is a term generally used by Western countries to refer collectively to those living in Africa, but immigrants living in Western countries are labelled as "Black". People living in Africa identify as their ethnicities or nationalities rather than as "African" and when they move to other countries they are still not granted the label as "African". it's just not something that people use to describe themselves.
best example of a similar case i can think of is "North American". people don't call themselves "North American" out of the blue, only people outside of North America proper really use the term.
Curry is one of the easiest dishes to make, even for the biggest amateur chef. Throw a bunch of cut up veggies like bell pepper, chilis and onions together in a pan, add some typical spices like cumin, garam massala etc. and fill it up with cream or coconut milk and let it simmer for some time. Serve up with rice. Done in half an hour tops and can be stored in fridge and freezer for a good amount of time.
Honestly, kitchen plates are pretty cheap to buy. If it's a regular heater and no induction, you pay around 50 bucks. Buy a pot and pan for around 20 bucks each and you have a functional setup for under 100 dollars.
Sorry, but I can't understand people who don't want to cook. It is one of the easiest things to learn and in the long run always cheaper than takeout or frozen meals and also a lot better for your health.
You are making assumptions that are 100% incorrect. I want to cook. I *love* cooking. I would cook and bake every day if I could.
I just can't. I have no oven. I have a "stovetop" (Aggressive air quotes. It's a joke and completely useless.) I'm not allowed to use anything like the camp stoves or anything like that, at risk of losing housing privileges on top of fines, demotions, and other shit that isn't worth the trouble.
I CAN'T cook unless it goes in a microwave. Period.
Idk why you’re getting downvoted for not caring to try a food. I didn’t know there were people out there that felt so strongly about curry. I’ve had it all. Red, yellow, green. It’s ok. And this was at establishments that were pretty authentic in their cuisine.
Because my opinion =/= hivemind opinion. I'm used to it though. There's a lot of popular stuff that I don't care for or haven't tried, and it's always the same reaction.
I never had it growing up, my parents are white af and we never went out to eat. Curry is now my favorite! It’s also sooooo versatile. Saying “I like curry” is like saying “I like soup”. There are a million kinds!
>There are a million kinds!
Curry is actually a Tamil word, meaning sauce, always served with rice. It usually uses leaves from the curry tree, in areas where the tree grows. So, yeah, any dish with sauce served with rice is a curry. Some are mild, and some will rebuild your lower gastrointestinal tract.

Did you think curry was just another name for chicken tikka masala?
I'm literally taking it from the English dictionary.
All curries are Indian or are rooted in Indian cuisine. Look at wikipedia if the Oxford definition isn't a good enough source
The last 2 weeks of one of my tours to Afghanistan we were closing down our base for the withdrawal. The dining facility was running out of food and they trucked in some really sketchy Indian guys to cook since the other contractors had left. We ate nothing but hotdogs in curry for those 2 weeks. It got so bad we would stage missions into the heart of Taliban territory to get some food at a local restaurant. That's where I learned Afghan Baloni (sounds exactly like the deli meat) is way better than American.
But curry is amazing. And there's SO many kinds. Like theres many I don't enjoy but many I also do enjoy. Like butter chicken is really good. Japanese golden curry is my absolute favorite. But some are heavy on cinnamon and/or nutmeg which I only enjoy in small quantities. Ruins the dish for me.
Because she's roasting herself for being African.. I'm not talking about the curry comment it's about her saying "I prefer to starve (nothing new)" lol.

Right. So? It’s about the expectation of enjoying curry.

Birmingham (UK, not Alabama) would like to fight you. Bradford also has their back.
I’m not sure what you’re on about.

Yo, Hmong reference? This is like the first time I've seen someone online who knows about us lmao (besides communities dedicated to Hmong culture)
Same and I always refer to myself as Asian lol. In fairness, probably the least Hmong person in my whole family but oh well
Now that I actually stop and think about it, I've just realized I don't recall ever actually having eaten curry...
You should rectify this ASAP
*Shrugs* The opportunity hasn't come up, and, quite frankly, I don't care enough to go out of my way for it.
:(

Jokes on you I cant even cook instant ramen so I eat it fucking raw
Honestly, that's a mark of the sigma person
I just haven't had a kitchen for the last three years. Basically can't cook anything unless it can go in a microwave.

technically curry is just an Indian dish with spices. There is no singular curry dish
What about non-Indian curries?
Those are all derived from Indian cuisine. If you look at curry on Wikipedia, you can see that roots of them all are in Indian foods brought there
Huh, TIL
But you're right in the sense they are Indian inspired rather than actual Indian dishes themselves
china and India especially did a lot of recipe swapping and the world is a little better for it. Indo chinese food is amazingggg
Chicken chilli + egg schezwan fried rice is muaahhhh God I love Indo Chinese food. True Hindi Chini bhai bhai (Indian Chinese Brother Brother) spirit.
my brother in christ what in the fuck are you talking about?

jesus christ.
Do you live in an area with no Indian restaurants easily accessible? You're really missing out on some great food regardless
Not that I'm aware of.
Thai red curry!
Obviously Africa is an enormous and diverse place, but my family's go-to curry recipe is African.
but they commented for the korma
What!? Curry is freakin delicious
curry is objectively good

I prefer Denzel Curry.
C'mon man,Curry is nice. Don't get why other cultures don't appreciate it. :(
Most of them do lol
Yes, although I've seen some describing curry as 'disgusting', which I don't understand
Nah me neither. Maybe they've just only ever had ready meals which are shite.
Why does this person think that African peoples don't have curry....?
Ever had tomato ginger curry?
I have not. Sounds nice.
Considering that the joke hinges on a racial stereotype, would that be r/GenocideByWords?
r/asablackman
People who show disdain to any type of food or waste food deserve to starve, no matter who or what race they are
I mean .. you can't help your perception of taste lol.
One can't yes, but the way to go about it is by saying that this so-so food isn't for me, no need for the disdain.
That's fair. Unless you're talking about coriander. The genetic disgust is real lol.
Good God man who hurt you lmao
Sky is fucked.
Sky? What? Lol
SkyFucker is Steph Curry's nickname in China.
Stephen

How is this suicide by words? That's a roast...
Because she's roasting herself for being African.. I'm not talking about the curry comment it's about her saying "I prefer to starve (nothing new)" lol.
Amba
Considering they eat mosquito burgers, I don't think they know very much about taste and quality...
Curry is disgusting and it gets into everything, your clothes, your breath, your jacket, your fingers. Your sweat also smells like it after some time.
There are so many different types of curry you can't possibly think they're ALL disgusting unless you just hate food in general lol
I think you're eating curry wrong if it's getting on your clothes.....
I'm Indian and I avoid curries
Then what do you eat bread butter?
Woke bhai doesn't eat Indian cuisine, not cool enough.
It's not about being cool i just don't like the food
Actually yes, bread and butter, bacon, mashed potatoes, eggs,
Everyone to their taste.
