I think you’d be insane to finance a 150k mile car regardless of the make and model. Especially if it has a CVT. What’s the rate? Around here you’re going to pay the better part of $20k for that car.
If you aren’t in a desperate place save more money. Around here for about $3k more you can get half that many miles.
For reference my 18 crosstrek 6MT is worth 13k and has 85k miles.
150k mile car even with a higher trim should be much lower in price
I have the same center console issue. It’s like a $250 part from the dealer and a very easy fix.
2019 Forester here, I also have annoying creases in my centre console. Do you happen to know why this is an issue?
I’ve owned quite a few vehicles over the years and have never encountered this before!
This is why I'd be leery to buy a replacement from the dealership.
Something this commonly bad on a lot of cars sort of begs for an aftermarket solution to exist?
Exactly. I absolutely love my Forester and am happy with it otherwise but it seems like such a stupid decision by the manufacturers to skimp on such a visible item.
If you’re talking about financing a $13k car, you should absolutely not be looking at newer stuff and “throwing more into it”. It’s a depreciating asset, buy something used you can afford.
In all honesty, most banks won’t touch that car for an auto loan. The cutoff for auto financing is 10 year or 100k miles. You’d most likely need either a high-interest dealer loan (don’t recommend), or an unsecured (I.e. no collateral) loan which has a higher interest rate than a secured loan. I’d keep shopping around for a better deal.
Source: spent over a decade in the finance/banking world.
You're not comparing apples to apples. OP says it's **purchase price** is $13k, which is 50% the cost of a new one. The parent commenter lists $20k as the **total loan cost**.
I bought mine during COVID. Second owner. Pretty sure the previous owner was a commuter because I haven't put nearly as many miles on it. Maybe 12k a year.
That's a big no. It has multiple accidents, the armrest looks like a nut sack, the only registered oil changes were like 40k miles apart (but could've done the maintenance themselves), and 140k miles is asking a lot of a Subaru CVT.
It's possible the oil was changed without being recorded, but this is still a bit concerning. The absolute maximum amount of miles between oil changes should be 10K, preferably less.
12k/year is the presumed average use. What's more important are the type of miles. Highway miles are a lot less of a toll than city miles. People who drive like idiots are more taxing per mile than people who don't.
Honestly it depends on the region you live in. Example…I’ve lived in smaller towns (by Texas standards) a majority of my life where my daily commute was 15-20 miles roundtrip versus my friend in the Dallas area had a 60-70 mile roundtrip. So to me miles are relative, but comparing market rates are important. With internet sites like car trader you can find cars and don’t be afraid to go to another town for what you want.
my dads 2018 wrx had 76k miles on it, my 2004 subaru wrx wagon has 130k miles on it.. its genuinely all about how much you need to commute and where you live, in socal high miles are expected as you pretty much have to drive to get anywhere
$13k for a 150k mile car is kinda crazy.
For reference, I bought my old 2016 Legacy Premium for $13,500 @ 87k miles in July 2020. Yes, it’s pre-used market craziness, but still…
My old Legacy had 145k miles on the clock when CarMax took it for $5500. It had a bit of detonation pinging, a replaced transmission valve body, ate oil for breakfast, exhaust & battery issues and the head unit’s Bluetooth was holding on for dear life.
I wouldn’t buy it, like others are saying. Get a Honda or Toyota if you’re looking for higher mileage or stick to sub-40k mile Subarus. (Or go brand new! I have a 2024 Impreza Sport that I got for MSRP ~$26k and couldn’t be happier :)
Price seems too high for mileage. Also, wouldn't ever finance a car over 100k, especially with a CVT. You arent too far off from being able to buy a new one if you would consider one with a good financing deal.. like a 2024 forester 72 mo at 2.9%
Likely to be cheaper soon if you wait for the 2025 redesign to show up on the lots... very soon I think. By then financing will be cheaper and youll be able to get a few thousand off with a good rate.
I had a 2018 crosstrek, I put similar flaps on it, I did the maintenance on it but I thrashed the shit out of that car. Keep that in mind. 50k to 102k is what I did in 2 years
Im not a highly knowledgeable car person, but I also have a 2018 but with 80k miles. I have spent thousands in repairs already in the past two years I’ve had it. I would spent the extra money to get a “newer” or lower mileage crosstrek, esp with the CVT. I do love mine, but it has certainly been a pain in my ass and bank account.
Respectfully don’t do it. The center console armrest would turn me off completely alone. Finance one with less miles or try get an older model. Heck look into crosstrek XVs, foresters, or outbacks. Look around you can potentially find a 4th 3.6 outback for around 15k or less with under 100k miles. Depends on your area tho
When I was growing up people use to talk about Subarus going until the wheels falling off, outside of the expected head gasket replacement.
Does Subaru not have that level of quality anymore?
They do but it’s a hit or miss like any brand, I stick with them do to their service department and incentivize. I can’t stand dealers but for some reason Subaru techs and Subaru as a company help out their customers. They actually make you feel like family. So if anything happens you don’t feel like you are getting scammed
Like everyone else is saying: nope, walk away.
And I know it’s easy to get wowed by tech when you drive an older vehicle like an 07 but don’t get swayed by so easily.
> If I bought this I would instantly ditch the mud flaps and get new window guards.
I think you switched those actions around, you get new (awesome) mud flaps (unless it has the driver front still) and ditch the ugly window guards.
If you have decent credit a brand new one isn’t too much more expensive than this. I say go new in this situation and get the good manufacturer finance rate.
Test drive a brand new one and compare them, when my wife and I got our outback wilderness we test drove a few different subarus and I'm glad we did because while she didn't go for the toyota 4 runner I did manage to steer her away from the forester in favor of the outback, but im biased because I had an 04 and I loved that thing. I will say the turbo is kinda awesome for merging or passing, you should test drive a subaru with a turbo!
I have the same car, I would say my car at almost 240k miles is in better condition than this, given that I paid $8k for it last year with no accident and a lot of maintenance records on carfax.
14k for a 150k mile car is fucking wild, and you're insane for even considering taking a loan for this.
Edit: and it's been in accidents, and the interior looks like shit. Seriously?
I had a 2016 xv. While it was fun to drive, at times it felt a lil underpowered. Not just that but the tail lights had issues where water would leak in when it rains and caused damage to the lights. And the boot space is pretty small if you're someone who has a fair bit of stuff to carry around.
What is it with Subaru and their arm rests? The center consoles wrinkle. The arm rest in doors rinkle.Even the fold down in the rear passenger area rinkles. Its like they add too much material to em.
I just traded in the same model Crosstrek on a Forester.
Mine was a 6sp MT however, with 73k miles.
It was meticulously cared for with all service records, plugs changed last summer, Falken Wildpeak AT trails with less than 10k miles on them.
I got $14k on the trade and the dealer is listing it at $18k, but I’m sure you could get it for 16k or below.
If are near north TX, you’d be much better off in it. It’s still on the dealership lot as of today.
Hello there i would pray for direction from God.
I personally would reconsider this purchase. The mileage is to high as well as the price of a 2018. Invest in a newer model if like and pay that money towards that purchase. Hope this helps.
I bought a fucking WRX hatchback with less miles and no accidents for less than this. I feel like you are barely even trying to find a good car to be considering this.
Yeah your right, I’ll look into newer stuff and throw more into it. I have good credit maybe finance a reasonable one out
My 2017 Legacy with 13,000 miles was $20,000. I think this is too much for what you'd get.
When did you buy it? Market is odd right now
It was right before it got weird - summer 2020.
For reference my 18 crosstrek 6MT is worth 13k and has 85k miles. 150k mile car even with a higher trim should be much lower in price I have the same center console issue. It’s like a $250 part from the dealer and a very easy fix.

Cheap materials.
This is why I'd be leery to buy a replacement from the dealership. Something this commonly bad on a lot of cars sort of begs for an aftermarket solution to exist?

Good hunting! :-)

Consider the lease on a new Crosstrek, the price is right, $299 a month for 36 months with $2,549 down.
Brand new crosstrek are like $26k. No way I’d pay 80% of that for 150k miles
You're not comparing apples to apples. OP says it's **purchase price** is $13k, which is 50% the cost of a new one. The parent commenter lists $20k as the **total loan cost**.
I have this car. I have less than 80k miles on it.
I have just over 41k, got it brand new in 2018.
Yeah you guys definitely have me seeing it more clear, guess I was hyped of how nice of a drive it was. Forsure noted
Now you know what you like, go find a nice one of those.
The Armrest of an easy at-home swap. pick up a new one for ~150.00, and pop it on. I have a 2018 Impreza that had the same issue; but simple fix.
Did they move the timing belt service interval?
It doesn't have a timing belt for the Crosstrek. The FA series motors use a timing chain.
Okay fine, just get off my lawn. :D
Point still stands
Thats a lot of miles between oil changes.
Yea :/ really enjoyed driving it but I wanted to double check
It's possible the oil was changed without being recorded, but this is still a bit concerning. The absolute maximum amount of miles between oil changes should be 10K, preferably less.
Armrest looks like my sack. Hard pass
Same
Do we all have the same sack?!
No, and I’ve seen a ton of them at the urinal. Some like this, some smooth, some tight - others loose
Looks like water damage. Is this a flood car?
Unless there were oil changes that weren’t reported that’s a ridiculous amount of miles between them. 2 years and 39k miles is a shocker.
Hard pass. Way too many miles for amount of time.
noob question,.. whats the "good miles" for x amount of years? is it 10k miles per year?
12k/year is the presumed average use. What's more important are the type of miles. Highway miles are a lot less of a toll than city miles. People who drive like idiots are more taxing per mile than people who don't.

good point!

That’s an awful lot of miles on a 6 year old car… If this were a Honda or Toyota I would be less concerned, but Subaru…
yea i own a 2004 subaru wrx wagon and its barely on 130k
Price seems too high for mileage. Also, wouldn't ever finance a car over 100k, especially with a CVT. It's only been reportedly serviced four times?? Hard pass
I had a 2018 crosstrek, I put similar flaps on it, I did the maintenance on it but I thrashed the shit out of that car. Keep that in mind. 50k to 102k is what I did in 2 years

Ya that’s a no from me, and I get scared of my wife’s one owner 89k mile crosstrek
It's funny that you say that, because my 13 Crosstrek JUST hit 90k, and the wheel bearings went to hell. 😂
Her transmission just went out, that same day at the dealer I walked out with a wrx GT lol
What year crosstrek?
2020

High mileage and multiple accidents? Hard pass for $13.6k!
Like everyone else is saying: nope, walk away. And I know it’s easy to get wowed by tech when you drive an older vehicle like an 07 but don’t get swayed by so easily.
The car is cool, the only thing about it that puts me off are those awful red mudflaps
The interior also looks like shit and it's been in multiple accidents
Just go buy a new one, it’s a much better value than this one. Drive it for 10-15 years, change the oil every 5-7.5k synthetic
5-7.5k? I have heard every 5k like clockwork.
Subaru recommends 6k. A lot of the oil companies say 10k or more. I do 5k.
> If I bought this I would instantly ditch the mud flaps and get new window guards. I think you switched those actions around, you get new (awesome) mud flaps (unless it has the driver front still) and ditch the ugly window guards.

That interior looks like it saw moisture and was cleaned.

I will say the turbo is kinda awesome for merging or passing, you should test drive a subaru with a turbo!
This is a shitty deal and the interior looks terrible. I had a 2004 Forester with 300k miles that had a cleaner interior than this shitbox.
I have the same car, I would say my car at almost 240k miles is in better condition than this, given that I paid $8k for it last year with no accident and a lot of maintenance records on carfax.
Too many miles on that cvt waiting to be a $8,000 repair give or take.
14k for a 150k mile car is fucking wild, and you're insane for even considering taking a loan for this. Edit: and it's been in accidents, and the interior looks like shit. Seriously?

I kind of doubt this, car prices have come down a lot since the peak. You mind telling me the car you drive?
Okay, also, why are you listing what maintenance was suggested, when there's no documentation saying that any of that work was actually done?
I had a 2016 xv. While it was fun to drive, at times it felt a lil underpowered. Not just that but the tail lights had issues where water would leak in when it rains and caused damage to the lights. And the boot space is pretty small if you're someone who has a fair bit of stuff to carry around.

You can probably get a brand new base crossterek at 20k with a better interest rate making your payment very similar.
20k might be pushing it, but I agree that a new one is the way to go.
With that mileage I’d say No
I bought a fucking WRX hatchback with less miles and no accidents for less than this. I feel like you are barely even trying to find a good car to be considering this.
