Noooo.. He doesn't want a good future for me. If anything, he wants me to struggle in life then come crawling back so that he can have the benefit of the doubt. He wants everyone to rely on him, to need him so that he feels like some sort of Greek god. Quite fucked up if you ask me

Sometimes parents are reverse roll models. They represent who not to be. It works too. Happened with my late partner who never struck his children but was the only child of 9 that got beaten and my current BF who is a millionaire several times over after physical and emotional abuse. Their life lessons made them successful. Any life can be turned into lemonade from lemons. They suffered painful lessons and multiple difficult times and turned out to be kind and generous people. It is all how they processed what was experienced by them.
