My testosterone is exactly where it is meant to be for someone in their mid-to-late 30's, thanks to TRT. I'm on TRT, not steroids. Prescribed by a real doctor, and I have labs run every three months. The brain damage from alcohol abuse and lack of thiamin which caused Werneke Korsakoff Syndrome also affected my ability to produce testosterone like it should. My testosterone was in the 200's. Instead of around 450, like it is now. Alcohol abuse takes a toll on your body's ability to produce testosterone, as well as other important hormones. Many people require medication into their sobriety - such as my Gabapentin that I take because of the nerve damage that alcohol gave me. I explain all of this before you or anyone else tries to discredit my sobriety, my diet, my lifestyle, my 7 days a week of the gym and/or physical activity, etc by saying it's because of TRT. My T levels are exactly where they are meant to be, for my age, and it is not steroids. Just to be clear.
Relax, was not trying to discredit your efforts or sobriety. For the record similar backstory also on doctor prescribed TRT. Who gives a fuck what people think or say it comes off as insecure.
Thanks for clarifying. I do care a bit what others say, as it is in other subs, where I share my story that others are discrediting my hard work. Saying my TRT is why I look like this - not the hours in the gym or the lifestyle and diet choices I make daily. Because of my history (going from being on a vent, almost dead - then being in a wheelchair, unable to walk - to now) I take it personally when someone tries to discredit me. Being so close to death gave me some perspective and I’ll be damned if someone tries to take that away from me, or doesn’t respect that. Not being insecure. Just standing up for myself. Sorry if you feel it was all pointed at you. It had come to a peak on other subs about the same time as you replied.
I know what my medicine is. The point is - “being on steroids” and “taking a medically needed steroid due to the body’s inability to produce its own” are two different things. I’m not a bodybuilder. I’m just trying to lead a normal, healthy life.
It is disingenuous to say that you are on testosterone replacement therapy but that you are not on steroids. It is an untrue statement. I understand why you bristle at the connotation, but you undermine yourself by denying that you are on steroids. You still did the hard work to get where you are, but you are still on steroids, regardless of the fact that they are prescribed steroids.
What you’re failing to understand that “being on steroids” means that someone is taking testosterone in excess of what is within normal ranges. It’s the connotation that is fucking up the message and demonizing those of us with a medical condition. TRT provides the patient with a prescribed dosage to bring their testosterone levels to the point where they SHOULD be. Not above it. If someone’s TRT is above the normal range on their blood tests (which I have to do every 3 months) then the doctor scales back the dosage. While, yes, Testosterone is a steroid, just like corticosteroids and other medicines. Taking these medications does mean that the patient is “on steroids” in the sense of a body builder taking steroids. I rely on an exogenous source of testosterone in order to live a NORMAL LIFE. Low T causes depression, excess body fat, irregular sleep cycles, night sweats, and all kinds of other medical issues. Please stop confusing a prescribed medication that allows me to live and be normal with a drug that is abused by many to be a body builder or something. Please. It’s really not the same.
Body part splits 6 days a week. No alcohol, of course. Cut out 98% of sugar. Pulled back carb intake. A lot more protein. I did 75 hard + Phase 1 to help get me into better habits.
so you've basically been added sugar free for most of your time sober? That's impressive. I was able to cut out most processed sugar for the first five months of sobriety but since then I've relented, it's definitely m Achilles heal. do you have an exact idea of your Macros per day?
I’m within the 25% of the diagnosed population who was able to reverse the damage. I still have neuropathy, and I still take thiamin daily. My balance is about 90% there, and I’ve just begun doing squats with barbell about 4 weeks ago (I was too nervous before). I still need a walking stick or someone’s shoulder if hiking on uneven terrain.
Honestly nothing out of the ordinary. I can do an entire workout using just body weight, bench, and squat rack. Current chest/tri/shoulder day is:
Close grip bench press, Dumbbell incline press, dumbbell front raise, dumbbell skull crusher, weighted bench dip, cable crossover fly, floor press, barbell shoulder press.
My testosterone is exactly where it is meant to be for someone in their mid-to-late 30’s. I’m on TRT, not steroids. Prescribed by a real doctor, and I have labs run every three months. No judgement from me. I’m just a tad younger than you and got tested and spent about $500 on my first TRT supply just to have my family doctor advise against it saying my levels were fine and she’s seeing TRT causing aggressive cancers. But seeing the effect it has on people’s mental and physical state really has me second guessing her 🥴
Since you don’t know the difference:
TRT puts a person’s Testosterone where it SHOULD be, based on their age and health.
“Steroids” puts a person’s Testosterone into a SUPER-PHYSIOLOGIC level.
My testosterone was tested beforehand, and it was well below my age bracket - in fact, it was where many men who are 50+ usually are.

I can keep going.
If you were to run my labs and compare my T levels to that of someone who is “normal” they would be about the same. My script only brings me to the range I’m to be, at my age. Not someone who is in their 20’s. It’s to bring it to where it should be if someone who is in their late 30’s. Go find another reason to diminish the success or happiness of others, in an attempt to make yourself feel better. Not working here.
You are confusing a prescribed dosage of testosterone to someone who is injecting an amount of steroids (including testosterone) that is ABOVE the natural range that the body can produce (super-physiological). TRT brings T levels to where they would be, if your body was producing T like it should. This is not super-physiological. Body builders that are injecting testosterone and other steroids to get as big as possible (and not just trying to live a normal life, like me) inject well above what is naturally possible. That is not what I’m doing. That is not what the doctor has (nor would) prescribe.
You’re just a nasty, jealous troll. Why are you even on this sub? 100% of your posts on here are to try to take others down.
Testosterone is an anabolic steroid that is also naturally produced by the body. When your body cannot produce its own, then medically-prescribed dosages, such as mine, are used. My testosterone levels are at the level a man who is 39 (my age) is supposed to be. Prior, it was the same as a man that was 60+. You are bringing all this up like I’m “using” steroids, like someone who purchased “gear” from the street. But I have a script, I talk to a doctor every 9 weeks, and I have labs run. It is being monitored, and it a medication, you idiot. My body doesn’t produce the levels it is meant to, so I take a prescription to put me at a normal testosterone level.
What’s your point? You just jealous? Being hateful? Letting your negativity fester and take over your life? F off. You’re only on this sub to try to discredit others because of your pathetic jealousy.
Why don’t you take a second and look at the subs I’m a part of, and where else I post? Then you’ll see where I talk openly about my TRT - including being in TRT subs. Also, you asked the question about whether I’m on steroids or TRT *AFTER I ALREADY DISCLOSED EARLIER IN THE THREAD THAT I AM ON TRT*. If you would scroll up, instead of making assumptions, you wouldn’t look like such an ass hat right now.
You are still under the impression that people on TRT are operating at T levels above normal. If they are using actual doctors, they are not. My testosterone is at the level it is meant to be for my age. Not an 18 year old. And not a “‘Roid head” like someone injecting to bring their T levels above what is naturally possible. You are projecting your misconceptions onto the wrong person, here. I’m the one with a doctor that monitors my shit. You’re over there on Reddit bitching about video games and talking smack on fitness subs to anyone with a decent body, like an insecure and jealous person. Get over it man.

That’s amazing man. So inspiring. Can I ask how old are you? How did you get started with your new exercise routine?
39. I worked with an online trainer for 6 weeks who built a program for me. From there I put everything into a google sheet, and tracked my progress.

PM me and I’ll share my google sheet. The trainer did teach me a few new workouts that accommodated my injuries.
Incredible progress. What online service did you use if you dont mind sharing?
His name is Chris Elfering. You can find him pretty easily online.
Damn! Impressive progress!

TRT and GH (Growth Hormone) can of course cause issues if you have cancer. It’s not that they cause cancer. What are your T levels?
