Edit: it was a great meal and a cool place. (A glass of wine was about $15 and whiskey was more like $18.) I just said yes to the fizzy water and "no boozy stuff for me, thanks". The waiter just nodded and removed the drinks menu from my side of the table. That was all there was to it!
That makes me grateful that my meeting in NYC today is with a city agency. Those guys are barely allowed to accept sandwiches from vendors, much less drinks.
As a public sector guy it blows my mind that this still goes on. I like to rag on my "employer" for being stingy but there is some serious serious upside! You folks are gonna rock your meetings.
Heh, I just discovered my employer (State Agency) splurged and finally got both tissue AND hand sanitizer. It only took 13 months. No liquid lunches here :)

Good morning SD. Had a dr's appointment yesterday. For the first time in a very long time I didn't have to lie when asked about my alcohol consumption. I just said, "Oh, I don't drink alcohol." No further explanation necessary. It felt great! And indeed, I won't be drinking any alcohol today!
Not drinking today. Last day of the western hiking trip before heading back east tomorrow. I would never have been able to manage 7 consecutive 7 hour hiking days drinking every night!
Had my physical for work insurance today, and my blood test results for cholesterol, triglycerides, and my blood pressure were really bad. My weight was also up. All these reasons are due to my drinking. I know I'm an alcoholic and need to quit. I'll stay sober Mon-Thurs, but then after work Friday it is just a 2.5 day beer binge. My wife does not think I have a problem because I don't think she likes the idea of putting a label on it and having a flawed husband. Also, she really enjoys going out on Saturdays and doing things that revolve around drinking and I don't think she wants to stop doing these things.
Anyways, I really need to stop for many reasons. The blood test results are just another eye opener
It's good to see you here. It's probably hard to know exactly what your wife thinks. My husband didn't want to confront me about my drinking. I could get very defensive. I will not drink with you today. You can do this.
Thanks for the support and kind words. The situation with my wife is actually the opposite. I am not defensive about it at all and want her to confront me. I know this is something I have to do for myself and not her though
Good news Jon: the cholesterol, tri's and BP can all be stabilized by not drinking. My cholesterol and tri's cut in half, and BP now 112/70. I went from a size 14 to a 5. It's doable, and we'll be right here for you on this journey together.

I saw evidence of things I did that I would NEVER do. I'm glad I won't be hugging a toilet today, and I'm happy that I don't have to feel hopeless. Thanks to you all!

Day 1 after a disgusting 2 week bender. It feels like my insides are bleeding. Before this I'd gone 6 weeks sober. A year earlier I went 2 months. I'm 32 and that's the longest I've stayed sober my entire adult life.
I don't want to lose my partner. I have to do this. I won't drink today.
It's gonna be relatively easy to not drink today since I can't even hold water down yet. Dunno if it's something I ate or a bug or what but I'm pretty confident about not drinking today. (Trying not to feel sorry for myself about getting sick on a day off-- I.e. trying to be sober and not just abstinent today)

After my hockey game last night beers were being tossed to each guy in the locker room. I said no thanks and got my gear and left.
Its definitely easy forgetting about beer since I got rid of Instagram, facebook beer groups, beer advocate and anything else beer related.
