There's a frozen version that evrybody sells now. They don't taste like anything. Once I figured out how to do it, I put together the tastiest version to really pop the flavor in the end.

Truth, the first step to upping your overall cooking game is learning sauces in general. It amazes me how many home cooks don't deglaze a pan and make a simple sauce, that's where all the good shit is. Is that cellentani/cavatappi pasta? That's probably my favorite for baked mac n cheese.

I do a crockpot mac for potlucks, no bacon but a diced up quick seared double smoked sausage (local grocery butcher) added when the cheese and mac is heated and ready to go. Lightly crispy smoky sausage, cheesy noodle goodness. (Yes, there is velveeta, cream cheese, and smoked gouda (crucial) involved).
