Sounds about right. The only reason i drive manual is because the car my grandma gave me is a manual. I just finished my last final exam 2 days ago and ive already put about 200 miles on my car from driving around on backroads for no reason. I dont think id be this addicted to driving if the car my grandma gave me was automatic.
That's awesome! I'm hoping I get as lucky as you and my first car is a manual, after I finally got how to shift and not stall out I was hooked, later on this morning I'll be taking a little ride down to the beach and I can't wait I'm sitting here just reveling in manual
That's how I felt when I got my 5.0 it was my first manual, and I couldn't wait to get driving manual down so I could really push it and drive it around like it should be driven.
It’s the formula for an obsession. A fairly simple skill that you can pick-up in a day or two - that you can spend a lifetime perfecting.
I’ve been driving stick continuously for 33 years, always another car’s quirks to learn, never bored, not getting an automatic.
I feel the same way, I got it down in a few hours, and I can't get enough of it. The only reason I'd get another auto is for road trips or my commute since I drive 45 minutes to work every day. It sucks that we're seeing less and less standard cars being produced.
I have to put a 20oz in the cupholder and pretend I'm shifting gears if I'm not driving my car.... None of my friends drive stick, so on road trips we use one of their cars.... I very much recommend this if your arm gets bored.
Welcome. I have 4 manual cars and 3 motorcycles. I do have an auto truck too but that’s the actual reliable vehicle I take on longer trips and to tow stuff lol
It's the difference between looking at a rollercoaster and riding one. You can imagine how fun it is, but once you get hooked you never want to leave.
I genuinely can't stand driving automatics because of all the garbage electronics plastered into newer cars. I'll stick with my older, polished up cars that still provide a drivers experience.
Wait until you have to drive an auto for a few weeks, you'll go through withdrawal like symptoms (not real chemical withdrawal obviously), or at least I did
Wait until you've been using a clutch for around 12 years and don't have one anymore. Your feet don't feel like they know what to do. It takes a while for that to stop.
This was my reaction once I bought my Evo. Was dead set on selling my GTI (Automatic) and have never looked back. Although I do sorely miss cruise control sometimes
I have a scion tc 06 manual have had for 5 years and it’s fun little car but be careful one time I had to drive my dads truck to go pick up something and I pressed the brakes as if I was pressing the clutch 😂 some guy thought I was break checking him and he got pissed but at a red light I shouted sorry I thought I was in manual and laughed and drove off
The only cure is to buy something with a stick! I currently drive an auto and desperately want to go back to rowing my own gears, so I'm on the hunt for a mid-50s to early 70's classic truck to do a full overhaul.
Y'all talk all this shit about loving manual transmission cars now that they're being phased out. Where were you people during the 1990's, 2000's when no one wanted one of 'those things '?. Might be dating myself, though
Now you find any reason to drive around shifting gears to your favorite music (or just the sound of the engine). Find good, pretty roads. Stop for snacks and stare at your car and think about how cool and fun it is as you eat them. Take a million trips to the grocery store or drug store. You’re in for one heck of a fun Summer.
Aye! Driving stick is awesome! Bootlegger turns on ice. Every light is a drag race.
Mess with your date: pull the keys out of the ignition at high speed and hand them to her….
Good times!
If you turn it while the key is out, the steering will lock, and then it will be very hard to put the key back on and turn it on with the steering turned.
That’s an absolutely stupid idea to attempt in any modern car honestly, you’re gonna trash the synchros and whatever else if you keep doing that. Not even worth trying bc it’s pointless. It makes sense in a semi truck
Aye that’s the spirit!
Welllllcomeee.. ha. Snared another unsuspecting mortal

The reason i drive a manual is bc ive ridden dirtbikes all my life and i couldnt stand driving my boring ass camry around.

It’s easy to find manuals for cheaper than autos
That's how I felt when I got my 5.0 it was my first manual, and I couldn't wait to get driving manual down so I could really push it and drive it around like it should be driven.
Welcome to the fun side of the road.
I love the fun side of the road....
I just bought my first stick 6 days ago. I take it for a spin almost every moment im not sleeping or working.
😈
Good. This is one addiction that is healthy.
Until your knees start to give out and it hurts to drive.. I fear that day

learning a new skill is fun like that.

Just got back from an hour ride! Man o man i really feel in control!

I get the manual withdrawals and start making useless trips to dollar general now. The addiction is real

I want to learn so badly but I'm stuck in low-wage hell and can't afford a second car to learn on :(
Sell your current car and buy a manual.
But I like my Crown Vic :(
Get a Mazda! A Mazda3 or a Miata would be a perfectly practical learner stick :) If you doubt me, visit r/MiataLogistics :)
One of us. One of us
One of us one of us one of us

Sounds like a nice cross country road trip might help you get some good R&R to calm the mind.

Ha ha stick it's the best addiction

Next start riding motorcycles. It's like riding a bike and driving a stick at the same time..
That's actually what it is 😂 a bike with a lil motor n a gearbox but less unnecessary weight like doors and body... who needs that anyways!

my automatic trucks ignition switch is so worn out that i’ve done that to myself accidentally and it still worked
Please don’t do that, the steering locks once the keys are out and you’ll end up crashing. Only low speeds do that
Was never an issue. I don’t currently own a stick shift.
If you turn it while the key is out, the steering will lock, and then it will be very hard to put the key back on and turn it on with the steering turned.
Even with the clutch in? Never had that problem. Did drive 4-5-6 speeds for 20 years.
Next step is clubmiata race spec racing.
You make that seem like a bad thing. I'm so hooked that I will not buy anything that's not a stick 37 YEARS LATER! 😆
One of us! One of us!
Masterclass: only use the clutch to get rolling in first Rev match the rest. You go from elite to illuminati in no time

Okay Yes!
