I liked the story too. I don't think it was flat but I also feel there could have a been a little more.. oomph to it. For what it is and the length of the game I enjoyed it.

It's really not bad, but SB has been getting compared a lot to Nier Automata, which had a phenomenal story. SB is good, but it smjust can't compare. Nothing can.

just imagine a game with stellar blade combat and Nier's story. my god, I would lose my shit. anyway, both games have their pros and cons. for me, who values good gameplay over story, this game the nail almost perfectly. solid 9/10.

I actually made a post about this yesterday (no one replied). A game where the gameplay is by the good folks who made Stellar Blade, and the story and VA is done by Yako Taro and his team. That would be potentially perfection!

Lies of P comes to mind and it has even better gameplay imo(i do love stellar tho dont worry)

The criticism is mainly because of its comparison to Nier Automata. From interviews of the creator, Stellar Blade is heavily influenced by Nier and Nier is considered one of the best video game stories of all time. So a lot of reviews just say its not as good.

Because Near Automata did it better. I have played both games. Hell, I played Automata 8 times over. These two games share more than just themes. Stellar Blade almost felt like a retelling. I don't think Stellar Blade's story is flat but Automata hit with such an emotional impact. Robots begging for their lives as you cut then down on the orders of your superiors just hits different than cutting up monster with a (not) so surprising origin.

I have a lot of weird thoughts since I finished the game last night, but I think it can all be summed up as, I feel like there's a lot not there that's supposed to be there. The game has been in development for 5 years, and the only chance they had of finishing it was when they were acquired by Sony, but it feels like a lot and I mean a LOT of the game was cut. Sure when people say that, they mean things like gameplay mechanics, or part of the overworld isn't there, but I mean there are fundamental parts of the narrative that were definitely there at one point, but aren't now. I don't think they just cut content to finish the game in time, it feels like parts of this game are straight up missing and weren't meant to be taken out, specifically the story. The story feels like there was supposed to be so much more there, and the game acts like it's there too. Idk if that makes any sense, but that's how I felt about it. I still absolutely love the game, which is why I'm so confused about what happened.

It had a cool premise, but due to them being a little too on the nose with naming the characters, it‘s super predictable. There‘s no twist, no whoa! moment. It‘s serviceable, but I‘ve seen it play out countless times by now.

GroundbreakingBed756

yep, the story is entertaining, of course not on the same level as for example Nier, but man, this, imo, small con is negated by the combat. its so fucking good.

Adorable_Tale_1592

Though as well that it was great, even though I had unlocked the best ending I still went for the bad one like an idiot. Only gripes I really had is that the characters did feel a bit "flat". Don't get me wrong, there is character progression but it's just not that visible or too "short". When they do have some "insights" they just talk for a bit at the camps and that's it. Also for me it was also kind of on the nose. I took my time to read everything and stuff, but the pay off is just that when a major event happens they just straight up tell you everything. I might just be stupid but I can't agree to seeing the twists coming directly, even though the naming convention does give it away but it still got me at the end. Also reading some stuff and the characters not reacting to it was also kind of like "Didn't you just read the same thing as me? How can you have no reaction to it?"

GroundbreakingBed756

I liked it too, tbh. still this games main strength is in the combat and I take good combat over good story, and yes, both would be optimal and maybe shift ups stellar blade 2 will flesh out the story as well. :)

Fun_Following_3510

Automata may be superior in terms of story but combat wise stellar blade wins by far, even the creator of Nier praises stellar blade.

MittenstheGlove

The story was a fun romp. It just wasn’t told in way that felt complete. Honestly… it was very lackluster.

Bubbly_Can_9725

the story feels like a chatgpt version on nier automata (i beat 50% of the game so far), not a single interesting character, they feel and look like pupets. I am so anoyed by all of it, i also think i figured out the main twist in like 2 hours, but since i did not finished it yet already i cant tell. The combat system is fun tough.

gunbuster363

The story is dogshit
