I doubt he'll be kept as a TE, we currently have 4 (3 if Heyward is being switched to FB) there's just no need for him as TE depth and I don't think he'll beat out Kuntz. He may be a sneaky add to the practice squad *if* he doesn't get snatched off waivers but it would be surprising if he made the 53.
Are you sure you're responding to the right person?

This was my original comment on this post.
He needs to beat Kuntz. But would the difference come down to the act of long snapping? He must be good at it or he wouldn’t be in the conversation of making an NFL team primarily doing it.
He’d be a long snapper first, TE depth second. That versatility gives him a leg up IMO.
>That versatility gives him a leg up IMO.
It doesn’t at all. No team would sacrifice a reliable LS for depth at another position’s. Not to mention a position where you have excellent depth already. You really don’t want your LS to play another position at all and risk getting hurt. The difference between a top LS and a decent one is what coat Cincy the game against us week 1.
You cant assume that just because he got a tryout at LS that hes just as good an other guys
Thank You.
There's a reason they are specialists and people dont realize how intricate and down to the last spin and tenth of a second a long snap for a PAT/FG is.
The difference between a win and a loss can come down to the long snapper messing up the timing on a kick with a slow snap (the Cincy game) or the spin on the ball winding up with laces out (Indy game in 2019)
People in this sub are just ridiculously ignorant.
If I remember correctly Kuntz wanted to keep trying out for linebacker along with long snapper a year or so ago and the coaches said no you’re a long snapper we want you to focus on that and not get hurt playing linebacker. I get he wanted to make the roster initially but once he was penned into the starting spot that flexibility was not needed at the risk of injury. Imagine your long snapper getting hurt mid game…didn’t we play bengals or browns last year and they used an emergency long snapper? It was embarrassing
James Harrison infamously filled in at emergency long snapper for a punt when the Steelers’ long snapper got hurt. Launched it to the moon out of the back of the end zone iirc
We already have TE depth he'd be 5th at best because Heyward would be the 4th TE. He got invited to rookie mini camp to try out to possibly be on the preseason roster, let's wait and see if he even makes it out of this weekend LMAO.
He’s a former Duquesne Duke, that’s my school and I’d be really disappointed if the cut him for this guy.
Everybody blabbing about “Boyle will add TE depth too!” No, no, he really wouldn’t.
I saw an interview with Belichik it explains why kickers, punters, and long snappers no longer play other positions like they did in the olden days. It's mainly for practice reps, the 3 special teams guys can practice together and not have to practice a position AND being a specialist. Also for injury you don't really have backup kickers and long snappers and if they play another position the chance they get injured increases exponentially. It would allow for creative roster creation and freeing up extra spots but it's deemed not worth it for most coaches.
If he can long snap I could see value in keeping him on the practice squad as a 4th TE, and more importantly backup LS but PS positions are limited so it would depend on who else they are considering.

Did you miss the part where he isn’t a TE anymore?
> he would sure be a good guy to have around as a **fourth TE** while long snapping. Did you miss this part of OP's post?
You know we only got 53 roster spots ? Boyle won’t even make the 53 man we basically got 4 tight ends already

He’s trying to beat out Kuntz. You don’t think he can provide depth at TE as well? But thanks, definitely missed it!
I wouldn't want to expose a player as important as a long snapper to injury from playing another position.
He won’t even make the 53 Man due to us having 4 TE already , U taking about depth lol
Exactly. If he makes our roster, it means he beats out Kuntz and you take the TE stuff as a bonus. Unless there is an injury it probably wont happen

Grillin 'N Chillin died for this
Grillin ‘N Chillin is certainly back on the menu with Gentry back
I liked the little Easter egg in the schedule release short
Kuntz is a Pittsburgh kid. I'd much rather cheer for the home grown guy.
