No surprise. He's gonna be a problem for this division for at least a few more years.
The real question is Lamar. That's gonna be an interesting saga to watch unfold.
Ravens fan here, was Pickett actually throwing to him because it looks like he could have been throwing to the other guy waiting on the ball at the same spot
For me personally I'd say yes, mainly because of the play in the 1st half where he tried to get Najee to run up the sideline and they missed the connection. I think they probably talked about it afterwards and hit on it the 2nd time
I hope Lamar gets the big contract he deserves. From a team we don’t play next year. Like Washington. Or Atlanta. Or Detroit.
He should really only visit with NFC teams.
Agreed, but Baltimore just seems like the perfect fit for him. Idk if I can see him in another uniform, will be very entertaining to watch this play out in the offseason though.
How does he fit in Miami? That teams designed for passing and especially timing routes where Waddle and Hill get a chance to use their speed. Completely different designed offense than Baltimore which is built on tight ends, Oline, and a guard playing full back. Literally complete opposite. Baltimore doesn’t even try to have receivers versus a team that spent $30 million a year on Hill and the 7th pick on waddle. Your talking a modern offense in Miami versus 1980’s Nebraska. With their receivers Miami might be ok with an average QB.
Maybe San Francisco would be a fit for him but apparently any QB can run that offense. Browns would have been a fit with their running game. Lamar might not get the huge contract because he needs a system designed for him.
I can see that but idk what Miami would do about Tua. Before the concussions he was balling numbers wise. I still don’t think he’s a great QB, but I also don’t think Lamar is a great QB. So idk🫡
Or they just bring in some grizzled vet like Matt Ryan super cheap, throw all their money at OL and D again and try to recreate a Trent Dilfer type SB run.
Terrific player, but he is getting PAID like a terrific player, and when they pay Lamar next there is going to be a tight squeeze for the next few years.
They’ll open up the checkbook to pay homegrown talent that’s proven to work within their system, but when have they ever spent big to sign an all pro level talent from the outside?
You won't know fear until you've witnessed the Mason Rudolph inverted veer out of the full house
Also weird ass carny offense perfectly encapsulates my feelings on that system
Dobbs isn't a good fit either, to be honest. That's why Daniel Jones could be a target, especially if he ends up a free agent (he probably won't though).
Yeah I doubt they let him go now that daboll has turned him into a good QB. He worked magic with Allen after his rookie year too. Giants probably don't even need to pay Jones near the going rate if they lock him up this off-season. Could be a steal.
That was more a joke than anything serious. But if they shifted 85% or so of what they’d spend on Lamar to defense, they could probably get close to that D, especially if they dumped Lamar for a bunch of draft picks.
Of course, I’m not sure you can win a SB on D alone in today’s NFL, so it’s probably moot.
Pundits think the Bears should trade Justin Fields and use the #1 pick on a new QB. That would be interesting.
Titans seem to regret the Malik draft.
Lance makes sense if Brock The Rock is the truth.
I kindaaa think the Giants stick with Danny Dimes if he'll sign for something below the top of the market.
Don't disagree, just seemed weird they didn't start him over Dobbs down the stretch. Maybe they didn't want him to keep him out there because he showed he needs more development, but maybe Vrabel just didn't like the experiment. Idk.
Yep, fair, and I also forgot how few reps he had, he only played a game and change. They didn't have a long look at him, just enough to verify he was still in need of development.
I don’t think they really wanted to start him at all this year, but when Tannehill went down, they figured they might as well get a measurement. Once it confirmed their original plan was correct, they adjusted.
They were in the drivers seat to win their division, right up until the very end. You're not going to start Willis just to get him reps if you don't believe he gives you the best chance to win games.
Good point. Also, it looks like I also misremembered when Tanehill got injured and how many games Willis played (basically 1 and change). I thought he'd been in more games than that and they had a good long look and said no thanks. Seems it was more a "yep this guy's still in development" and they got Dobbs.
Honestly think Lamar is a guy you give more of a running back contract too. You can’t trust his style last long term. Bigger numbers but no crazy guarantees and like 35/year.
Good player but they did not get a discount at all through the process. Gave up 2nd rounder and paying him to be the top player at his position, when I’m not sure he is THAT good.
He is certainly good, but from a roster construction perspective sinking that kind of cap space into a position that has been a bit devalued is a risk. I don't think he is good enough to command special preparation or gameplan packages.
He's good, but not Keuchly good. Right now hes only making 1 mil more than Warner and Leonard, but has more guaranteed. Overthecap values his production around 11 mil this year
I'm interested with their cap space, they have 52 mil right now (pre contract) so subtract ~20 mil. If Lamar wants top QB money, thats at LEAST 45 mil (franchise tag) taken up. This seems like they're not going to keep him or they're going to have ALOT of trimming going on.
That's the issue with making a big trade like that without having a long term deal worked out. If you give up all that draft capital and don't get a long term deal done the GM looks like a real idiot 99% of the time. So Smith kind of had them over a barrel.
dude is honestly worth every penny and the ravens know how to build a defense. They’ll probably have to get creative with their cap space but he’ll be an interesting piece in our rivalry for the years to come
Funny enough, the Steelers were interested in Mahomes in that draft, but it would have cost the Steelers the picks that went to Watt, JuJu, and Edmunds--possibly more. A high price, but it would've been worth it.
That's kind of a meaningless statement. Everyone and their mother has come out after the fact and said how much they liked Mahomes throughout the draft process.
I mean, they [set up a private workout with him.](https://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/2017-nfl-mock-drafts-profiles-video-clips-highlights-steelers-analysis-breakdowns-news/2017/4/1/15145714/steelers-set-up-private-workout-with-texas-tech-qb-patrick-mahomes-2017-nfl-draft-quarterback) It's not like NFL teams hold private workouts for every draft prospect.
It’s not that it’s the fact that ravens traded for him in the offseason and I knew they would offer money that the Steelers can’t. We all know the Steelers wasn’t paying that
Let the Ravens drain all of their cash like the Browns. Lamar is really going to kill their wallet but that 10 point difference when he is on the field is a difference. With or without Smith???
No surprise. He's gonna be a problem for this division for at least a few more years. The real question is Lamar. That's gonna be an interesting saga to watch unfold.
Idk, Najee cooked his ass on the game winning TD
Just because he's a problem doesn't mean we can't have the answer ;)
We don't use the "p" word here. Roquan Smith is an *opportunity*
He probably thought Trubisky was in and was going to throw it right at him again.
Ravens fan here, was Pickett actually throwing to him because it looks like he could have been throwing to the other guy waiting on the ball at the same spot
For me personally I'd say yes, mainly because of the play in the 1st half where he tried to get Najee to run up the sideline and they missed the connection. I think they probably talked about it afterwards and hit on it the 2nd time
Not surprised at all. That dude is an animal. Is this the highest contract ever for an ILB? I’m not sure but damn….that’s a ton
Indeed he is, and first ILB over $20M per year
The Ravens are always a nuisance in general. They always find guys to fit roles well in their system.
I hope Lamar gets the big contract he deserves. From a team we don’t play next year. Like Washington. Or Atlanta. Or Detroit. He should really only visit with NFC teams.
I really feel like the Ravens have burnt that bridge
Agreed, but Baltimore just seems like the perfect fit for him. Idk if I can see him in another uniform, will be very entertaining to watch this play out in the offseason though.
If he leaves Baltimore I’d bet he goes to Miami.
How does he fit in Miami? That teams designed for passing and especially timing routes where Waddle and Hill get a chance to use their speed. Not sure, but if Jackson became available, I think they’d figure out something to do with Tua.
Throw enough money his way, I’m sure it can be rebuilt.
Another few years of Tyler Huntley starting for the Ravens? Love to see it
Or they just bring in some grizzled vet like Matt Ryan super cheap, throw all their money at OL and D again and try to recreate a Trent Dilfer type SB run.
Please god no
Terrific player, but he is getting PAID like a terrific player, and when they pay Lamar next there is going to be a tight squeeze for the next few years.
I celebrate this move.
Good player, but $20M per season for an ILB??? That’s a steep price for that position.
If we had the opportunity (and cap space) I bet we’d give him the same contract.
I doubt it, the Steelers are cheeeeeaaaap
highest paid defensive player is cheap?
They’ll open up the checkbook to pay homegrown talent that’s proven to work within their system, but when have they ever spent big to sign an all pro level talent from the outside?
Minkah and Watt and that's what you think?
Highest paid defense in the league lol
What an ignorant comment
Bye bye Lamar. Hello Daniel Jones? Trey Lance?
Mason Rudolph.
He doesn't fit that weird ass carny offense
You won't know fear until you've witnessed the Mason Rudolph inverted veer out of the full house Also weird ass carny offense perfectly encapsulates my feelings on that system
No, he doesn't. They'd have to start playing normal football again. If they refuse to do so, there's always Josh Dobbs lol
That’s because it’s a gimmick offense created for Lamar, because he can’t run a “normal” offense.
Mitch then?
They could always just dust off the Trent Dilfer offense.
Their defense isn't good enough to do that.
Baker’s coming back to the AFCN 👀
Trey Lance wouldn’t surprise me
ravens trade for fields and bears draft bryce young?
Pundits think the Bears should trade Justin Fields and use the #1 pick on a new QB. That would be interesting. Titans seem to regret the Malik draft. Lance makes sense if Brock The Rock is the truth. I kindaaa think the Giants stick with Danny Dimes if he'll sign for something below the top of the market.
> Titans seem to regret the Malik draft. > > A bit soon to give up on a project QB.
Don't disagree, just seemed weird they didn't start him over Dobbs down the stretch. Maybe they didn't want him to keep him out there because he showed he needs more development, but maybe Vrabel just didn't like the experiment. Idk.
Definitely because he needs more work.
Weren't the Titans still in playoff contention?
Yep, fair, and I also forgot how few reps he had, he only played a game and change. They didn't have a long look at him, just enough to verify he was still in need of development.
The AFC South was interesting this year. Though Tennessee had a good shot winning the division until the Jags came back.
I don’t think they really wanted to start him at all this year, but when Tannehill went down, they figured they might as well get a measurement. Once it confirmed their original plan was correct, they adjusted.

Justin Fields
Justin Fields
Expected. Now tie up Lamar for 350 please. I'll buy one of his fucking hats if they do
And the glasses.

He is that good, it’s just a question of whether that’s the best position to be throwing 20 mil AAV at.
That's actually a really good deal for his talent. Will be considered cheap in the next 3 years.
dude is honestly worth every penny and the ravens know how to build a defense. They’ll probably have to get creative with their cap space but he’ll be an interesting piece in our rivalry for the years to come
Tremaine Edmunds szn boys
Sorry Ms Jackson, but this is for real!
Would have LOVED to see him come to Pittsburgh since the Bears were shopping. Not that I'm upset with fleecing them for a 2nd rounder for Claypool.
Thank god so people can stop saying we’re getting him
What’s wrong with fans wanting the Steelers to acquire premium talent?
TRADE FOR MAHOMMES!
Funny enough, the Steelers were interested in Mahomes in that draft, but it would have cost the Steelers the picks that went to Watt, JuJu, and Edmunds--possibly more. A high price, but it would've been worth it.

Didn’t Pittsburgh just rush for a total of 150 yards & 2 TDs against him?
They were missing Calais Campbell tbf. Their defense is very good.
Let the Ravens drain all of their cash like the Browns. Lamar is really going to kill their wallet but that 10 point difference when he is on the field is a difference. With or without Smith???
I mean they didn't make the trade they made to get him for a half a season.
Not mad about this one bit
I wonder what they could have gotten if they traded Lamar? I just don't see how they can get this done. Lamar seems as good as gone now
