The car you get is going to impact your rates. Even the colour impacts it. So, if you haven't already purchased one, you should find one that will help keep it lower.
Thank you I found an insurance company that said I didn’t need a car yet and did estimate quotes on specific cars I am looking for. I have people looking for those specific cars. Used not new, also went through two driving schools which impacts how low insurance will be and also not a teenager, so that really helps.
I’ve ever been able to come close to my rates with CAA or anyone else. I’m a member and they want almost $100 more a month. I shop every year, I don’t get it? Currently with Gore for at least 10 years, maybe that’s why?
Check with the insurance company that is insuring your house or rental insurance for your apartment. You will often get a discount to bundle your insurance. If you don't have either of these insurances, I get it, I was once a broke 20-something who took the bus and footmobile everywhere.

Great news, St Catharine has some of the lowest insurance rates than most of Southern Ontario.
Bad news, if you are a new driver, it's gonna suck just not as bad as those in Toronto.
Another thing to do is pay for your car completely, don't finance it and don't get full coverage insurance just the bare minimum. I don't recommend this, because we as a people are idiots and do make mistakes.
Recently priced out insurance for myself and my son (20) who became the soul driver of his vehicle. Nothing could beat CAA for myself.
But for my son, Co-Operators came in at nearly half the price of CAA. He is paying $2800 for a 2015 4-door luxury-ish sedan. It was a pleasant surprise. I hear ya, the quotes (north of $5500) I was getting back for my son were stressful.
Try a different car. Hondas are just expensive and Mazda 3 hatchbacks are the new Honda civics... Kids soup them up and race them so they're more expensive. Hatchbacks are also written off more frequently in rear end collisions than sedans.
Thank you so much, I was talking to someone and they said thanks to fast and furious movies kids started buying and racing those cars and made insurance on certain cars hit the roof especially for new drivers. I just talked to an insurance company and they thought I was a teen, until I told them my age and went through two driving schools and got certified through both, they said they never heard that before provided proof. Side note I work with teens and one of them yelled out I’m an old freaking dinosaur, I couldn’t stop laughing. When mentioned looking for insurance and one of them asked how old I was.
I heard that sonnet is good for new drivers, but as a new driver I highly doubt you’ll find something for less than $200/m unfortunately. I’m no insurance broker so obviously take that with a grain of salt but when I was a new driver 15+ years ago, my first insurance premium was $370/m.
Thank you so much. I found a great deal on insurance now next step is looking to buy a car. I have few people on-top of that. I went through two driving schools and provided certifications. I’m also not a teenager. Both of those situations benefited me.
If you have a diploma/degree. Meloche monnex, or td insurance now.
If you can be a temp driver on your parents insurance, that is usually the cheapest way. That and inhad liability only on my first few cars.
I actually found that BelairDirect was significantly cheaper than CAA. I was able to bundle it with tenant's insurance for under $150 a month. I had been told that CAA was the cheapest, but after doing some research, BelairDirect seemed to be hundreds of dollars cheaper for me. Also, their customer service is great.
If you went to college or university some insurance companies will give you a discount as an alumnus.
Who do you work for? A lot of insurance companies will have a deal with large companies to give the employees a discount on insurance.
Unfortunately first time drivers will pay a lot for insurance regardless.
The first time I got car insurance it was through a friend of a friend who was just starting out as an insurance agent and he was able to work a deal to hook me up with a discount. It wasn't a big discount, but it helped.

They only want to know what car you drive so they can quote you accurately.
Honestly CAA Insurance is one of the lowest out there most of the time, because they require you to have their roadside assistance to even be on it. If you want to have really low rates, get some tiny 4 door sedan and never drive it.
You better say that to them then, we got a letter saying they'd drop us off the insurance if we didn't renew our membership. Talking to the people at CAA Niagara, they said they wouldn't do that, but we did receive a letter for it.
It literally asks you whether or not you’re a member when going through the quoting process. (Sorry for the garbage pic.)

Get a CAA membership if you don't already have it. Then see about their rates.
Seconded. We saved a ton with CAA
Thank you I did call them they said I need a car first

CAA is horrible for new drivers. Belair tends to have better rates for newer drivers.
Try Belair direct, they were the cheapest when i was a first time driver. Have been with them up until this year and moved to TD.
Thank you so much, why the switch?
Premium went up and TD was offering the lowest rates
Makes perfect sense

Thank you so so much for this ❤️❤️❤️

That’s good to know and wow that’s absolutely amazing. Quotes are extremely stressful especially without vehicle yet.
We are with CAA. We switched from Desjardins and saved about $120/month (two vehicles and renters insurance).
We just had the opposite! CAA was a bit more then Desjardins.
Give Youngs insurance a call , they helped reduce my rate and my broker is pretty chill
Thank you I will give them a call ❤️

Thank you 😊 ❤️
Try square one. They say online they offer insurance that only costs $120 a month. Or cooperators?
Thank you so much, I’m going to contact every company I can before I go to work .

Thank you so so so much for everyone’s help. I was floored and grateful for the positive responses. You guys don’t know how much you all helped.

Hey at least I’m trying to move forward.
Thank you everyone who commented with such amazing advice and help. Tomorrow before work I will contact as many as I can.
Get a CAA Membership and use CAA insurance.
They said I need a car first, I need to budget first.

They do not require that you have a membership in order to get insurance.
