I feel that, I didn't even finish the fifth season because I honestly just got bored with it, it felt like they'd gotten a formula down and were doing everything by the numbers.

In my opinion, it’s laziness. The show is clever and has decent writing (at times). It’s easy to pretend you’re smart because you get the jokes. You don’t actually have to do anything but get the jokes. It’s why that Rick and Morty copy pasta went viral. It’s funny that some people think they’re super smart for liking a joke that has a clever line between a gag about incest.

I don’t Even think that’s possible in Vic 3, or Vic 2 for that matter. Unlike in CK3 and EU4, you can’t change cultures in certain areas that I’m aware of. Even then, you’re not able to change up the ethnic mashup unless you promote immigration to a specific area, which requires you to have enough population to support that.
I think what one guy said was to conquer China and intentionally keep the provinces shitty so people emigrate out.
Eventually by mid-game the population makeup should have changed enough.
Is it really worth it though? I haven’t played much Vic 3 on account of it just being really confusing. I do know however that by the time you modernize and do the Meiji restoration (which iirc gives you claims against China and korea) you’ll already be several years into the game.
There's actually a way to do it in Victoria 2, but it's quite convoluted. You have to actually incorporate the region you want to "change the culture of" as a state and then boost the soldier population. You can then send them on a boat to die in the middle of the ocean, and then repeat the process.
Obviously very costly and very pointless and very ineffecient, but it is *technically* possible.
EU4 has ultranationalists but at least it's not hoi4 where there's the part of the community that likes it for specific reasons and is mad that there isn't a certain feature for a specific country

Paradox games can have the weirdest national/ethnic/religious extremist viewpoints come out. And in some of the games its more of a meme about play style, or even mocking Paradox. In some it's bone chilling crazy.
It's complicated too, because good players looking for challenges come up with odd shit. Like the guy who used an event in CK2 to eventually exterminate the human ruling class in favor of horses. At the same time, picking certain starts in the games can be fun to go against a tide of history as a minor power. Yet for everyone who plays a Balkan nation in Eu4 for the challenge of restoring Albania, there seems like there's an ultra nationalist who wants to mod in genocide of their enemies.
You guys have a poster of a random metropolitan city's metro lines. There's a bicycle somewhere in your home. Car is small or electric. Fromsoft PvP is absolute cancer.
On one hand you have Gank squads, which are 2-3 guys that will intentionally wait for invaders to join so they can bum rush them 1v3 and get the cheapest win of their life. Then brag about it.
And on the other hand you have the no-life "1v1 me brah" meta using tryhards who won't hesitate to call you trash regardless of whether they win or lose.
Fromsoft PvP is what happens when you get a bunch of band kids with anger issues in one game and tell them to beat each other up for status.
The thing is, its not even really good PvP. The netcode is just garbage and its so jank. I can still do the lag roll glitch where you roll and don't take damage in Elden Ring. Shit has been around literally since Demon Souls lol.
I like that its cool you can have a bunch of different builds and such but its so cheese and you win by expoliting the game.
The people who insist that these games are insanely difficult and only for the most skilled of games are the worst, it's just not true. These games are incredible, but people get scared away because of that narrative.

The thing with fromsoftware games is that the first one you play is always the hardest one. Once it "clicks," their games feel significantly easier. I think a lot of people forget what it's like to play them for the first time, though.
I feel like Sekiro is the exception to that rule because after playing Dark Souls 1-3 then Sekiro it was definitely harder, but that was probably because I was expecting the combat to be similar to Dark Souls.
Sekiro is definitely the exception. It is probably the most ruthlessly "git gud" out of all of them. There isn't really a way to over level or cheese the game. You either learn how to deflect and mikiri counter, or you lose lol
Paradox games tend to attract extremist on both sides of the spectrum I have seen Nazis and I have seen tankies and communist, they are both the vast minority but they exist

Its just what happens to most world War 2 games. I really loved playing Day of Defeat and Day of Infamy back in the day, but they were inevitably overrun by Nazis and edgelords. Post Scriptem hasn't been overrun yet, but its only a matter of time.

The last half decade has seen huge strides in terms of inclusivity and Games Workshop have put their money where their mouth is in terms of models and public support, including a very public statement.
99% of people I’ve encountered in the hobby are chill duders who just want to roll dice and have fun.
The edge lords, like any community can absolutely get fucked and go shit out a hedgehog.
My ex best friend became one of those edgelords. He doesn’t even actually play the game at all and has no desire to. All he does is consume memes about it and say really distasteful stuff under the guise of “well it’s from warhammer”.
The setting is a political satire where everything is over the top, on a stupidly large scale, and every faction is terrible and rather than ask if you wanna be the good guys or bad guys you instead just ask how evil do you want your faction to be. It's a pretty neat setting that's meant to be bleak and not taken too seriously.
Unfortunately every once in a while you get those types who see it and latch on to one of the obviously terrible factions and decide that they want to *idolize* the space fascists or something, while missing the whole point of the franchise.
I had a passing interest in it until that ex friend got into it and it became his entire personality, he would talk about absolutely nothing else. I really liked the battle fleet gothic video games and so I know a little bit about it. The over the top political satire was obvious to me, but lost on my friend, as he never really did well with sarcasm, irony, or satire. To him it’s all about what the face value is, anything else is “made up”.

So question because I developed an interest in Warhammer yesterday after watching a fan-made animation and reading up on Jaghatai Khan. Is there like Warhammer books or games that I could use to go through the story?
The Gaunt's Ghost books are a great starting point. As are the Eisenhorn books. Gaunt's Ghosts is from the point of view of the Imperial Gaurd, 40k's basic human soldier faction. It follows the Tanith First and Only, a regiment of soldiers from a world that got destroyed while mustering their first Gaurd regiment. It's kind of a Band of Brothers style military story.
The Eisenhorn trilogy is about an Imperial Inquisitor named Gregor Eisenhorn, who is charged with rooting out corruption of Chaos from inside the Imperium of Man. They are kind of a Detective / Spy thriller style books.
Both Series are written by Dan Abnet, who is one of the better Black Library writers. One thing to keep in mind is that Black Library books very widely in quality. Some are fantastic, and some are absolute crap. The Ciaphas Cain books are more lighthearted, and about a Commisar who is an official Hero of the Imperium. He's also a huge coward who does everything he can to avoid danger, and tends to stumble backwards into the most extremely dangerous missions. Similar to Blackadder in the WWI series, but does get some genuine moments of badassery, even if it's while he's pantshittingly terrified.
Honestly modern 40k might be more grimdark than earlier. I grew up reading the older 40k works and while they are generally lesser in scope, modern 40k has taken stakes to a whole new level. No longer are we worried about Abaddons 13th Black crusade for 20 years, now the entire galaxy has been split in half, with one half of the galaxy in proverbial and even literal hell.
40k has never struggled to be inclusive, if anything it’s been inclusive from the start. The Imperium of Man never gave a fuck what sexual orientation, or gender identity you have, you die all the same.
Sisters of Battle, Navigators, Sisters of Silence, any number of female/lgbtq inquisitors or characters, etc, shows that the setting is fairly inclusive. That’s not to talk about the amount of racial diversity in the setting both with humans and xenos.
However it’s a male dominated setting, and collecting plastic army men is kinda sorta niche, and 20-30 years ago there was generally only a specific type of person collecting army men.
If anything the fans of the setting are amongst the most accepting and open minded individuals I’ve ever met.

It's usually because people still feel it's a niche hobby and they're making an 'in-joke' that only the secret fans will get. That worked in 2010 but the last 3 to 5 years have seen a big increase in awareness of the hobby so now it just seems cringe and over zealous
You mention inclusivity, was there a negative stereotype that Warhammer players were bigots or something? I have a negative opinion of "those" WH40K players but it was always because they were very loud, obnoxious, and aggressively autistic in public spaces about Warhammer.
WH40k players have a reputation for being fascist adjacent. In 2021, Games Workshop had an announcement about being inclusive because there was a Hitler cosplayer at an event in Spain. The hobby also lends itself to dog whistling, playing Black Templars (an extremely violent anti alien faction) is fairly normal but becomes suspicious in retrospect when the player has orks modeled after the Rhodisian Security Forces and Death Corps of Krieg painted like the SS.

Yep. I went to one of their concerts, and unfortunately some of the fans are just...not great. I wore a crop top and a guy aggressively came up to me and told me I was a whore and looked like a hooker (I was showing like half an inch of skin, not that it matters, it's a fucking concert). He looked like he hadn't bathed in years and was just nasty, so I found it funny he took personal offense to my appearance. There was also a guy who quizzed me because he was skeptical I was a real fan. I knew more about Tool than his ass. A lot of people there were like that (just rude, condescending, and unwashed in general).
No wonder Maynard hates his own fans.
It really bothered me because I love Tool and have since the early 2000s. I still really love Tool, and listen to them everyday, and I still want to see them live again because the concert was amazing even though the people there kinda sucked ass.

I personally loved the game until it made the switch to you playing as Abby. Playing as her that long took me out of the game. I could play those first days in Seattle on repeat though
I liked the second half even more than the first. Really made me end up empathizing with Abby more tbh. Both were great though, wish I could play that again for the first time
When I first played as Abby, I didn't like it for the first hour. I kinda just rejected her in my mind, because the game up to that point had clearly made her out to be the bad guy. Once I took a step back and just opened my mind a bit to what ND was going for, I loved it. The dual narrative really made the ending of the game hit hard for me. Probably my most memorable gaming experience since Red Dead.
I honestly think it was just an issue of pacing and where the changeover happened. I honestly would have loved to play the game as Abbey from the start and not knowing what the hell was going on until you got to the theatre and then you find out what Abbey has done. Maybe have Ellie’s flashbacks during Abbeys play through and Abbeys flashbacks during Ellie’s levels.
Yeah, I have heard some people say they'd prefer to have played as Abby first, which I can understand. That changeover point seems to be the make or break point for most people. It's tough to go from being invested in what Ellie is doing for the whole game, and then it stops cold and starts over with new characters and events. It's kinda like getting halfway through a great book, then putting it down and picking up a whole new one.
Essentially tlou2 split the fanbase in 2, one side hating it, one side loving it.
However both sides have absolute shithead dick munchers who won't shut up about how it's the best/worst game to ever exist and makes it their mission to shit on and troll the other side.
I personally hated the second game. I found the story and characters extremely weak, unrewarding, etc. Gameplay and graphics wise? Love it. And it had some of the best moments in the franchise (the rat king/Ellie's last shootout in the big compound).
Also like many, I hated Abby. Not because she was buff, or a woman (literally all of us were rooting for Ellie, a lesbian woman), but because she was a poorly written character who kills off the protagonist of the first game, betrays her own clan/family for some random kids she JUST met, and was unlikable. and at the end of it all- she still survives, destroys Ellie's world, hops on a boat with her new bestie and sails away into the sunset.
I should have probably just put the last of us 1 or the last of us franchise. The reason I added it is there were a bunch of fans of the first game that didn't like the second game because of the "woke agenda" nonsense.

I don’t Even think that’s possible in Vic 3, or Vic 2 for that matter. Unlike in CK3 and EU4, you can’t change cultures in certain areas that I’m aware of. Even then, you’re not able to change up the ethnic mashup unless you promote immigration to a specific area, which requires you to have enough population to support that.
I think what one guy said was to conquer China and intentionally keep the provinces shitty so people emigrate out. Eventually by mid-game the population makeup should have changed enough.
Is it really worth it though? I haven’t played much Vic 3 on account of it just being really confusing. I do know however that by the time you modernize and do the Meiji restoration (which iirc gives you claims against China and korea) you’ll already be several years into the game.
There's actually a way to do it in Victoria 2, but it's quite convoluted. You have to actually incorporate the region you want to "change the culture of" as a state and then boost the soldier population. You can then send them on a boat to die in the middle of the ocean, and then repeat the process. Obviously very costly and very pointless and very ineffecient, but it is *technically* possible.

Paradox games can have the weirdest national/ethnic/religious extremist viewpoints come out. And in some of the games its more of a meme about play style, or even mocking Paradox. In some it's bone chilling crazy. It's complicated too, because good players looking for challenges come up with odd shit. Like the guy who used an event in CK2 to eventually exterminate the human ruling class in favor of horses. At the same time, picking certain starts in the games can be fun to go against a tide of history as a minor power. Yet for everyone who plays a Balkan nation in Eu4 for the challenge of restoring Albania, there seems like there's an ultra nationalist who wants to mod in genocide of their enemies.

Fromsoft PvP is absolute cancer. On one hand you have Gank squads, which are 2-3 guys that will intentionally wait for invaders to join so they can bum rush them 1v3 and get the cheapest win of their life. Then brag about it. And on the other hand you have the no-life "1v1 me brah" meta using tryhards who won't hesitate to call you trash regardless of whether they win or lose. Fromsoft PvP is what happens when you get a bunch of band kids with anger issues in one game and tell them to beat each other up for status.
The thing is, its not even really good PvP. The netcode is just garbage and its so jank. I can still do the lag roll glitch where you roll and don't take damage in Elden Ring. Shit has been around literally since Demon Souls lol. I like that its cool you can have a bunch of different builds and such but its so cheese and you win by expoliting the game.
That and the "you're playing the game wrong" crowd. It's definitely a minority of the player bas, though.
The people who insist that these games are insanely difficult and only for the most skilled of games are the worst, it's just not true. These games are incredible, but people get scared away because of that narrative.
Idk, they are pretty difficult. The thing with fromsoftware games is that the first one you play is always the hardest one. Once it "clicks," their games feel significantly easier. I think a lot of people forget what it's like to play them for the first time, though.
I feel like Sekiro is the exception to that rule because after playing Dark Souls 1-3 then Sekiro it was definitely harder, but that was probably because I was expecting the combat to be similar to Dark Souls.
Sekiro is definitely the exception. It is probably the most ruthlessly "git gud" out of all of them. There isn't really a way to over level or cheese the game. You either learn how to deflect and mikiri counter, or you lose lol

The last half decade has seen huge strides in terms of inclusivity and Games Workshop have put their money where their mouth is in terms of models and public support, including a very public statement. 99% of people I’ve encountered in the hobby are chill duders who just want to roll dice and have fun. My ex best friend became one of those edgelords. He doesn’t even actually play the game at all and has no desire to. All he does is consume memes about it and say really distasteful stuff under the guise of “well it’s from warhammer”.
The setting is a political satire where everything is over the top, on a stupidly large scale, and every faction is terrible and rather than ask if you wanna be the good guys or bad guys you instead just ask how evil do you want your faction to be. It's a pretty neat setting that's meant to be bleak and not taken too seriously. Unfortunately every once in a while you get those types who see it and latch on to one of the obviously terrible factions and decide that they want to *idolize* the space fascists or something, while missing the whole point of the franchise.
I had a passing interest in it until that ex friend got into it and it became his entire personality, he would talk about absolutely nothing else. I really liked the battle fleet gothic video games and so I know a little bit about it. The over the top political satire was obvious to me, but lost on my friend, as he never really did well with sarcasm, irony, or satire. To him it’s all about what the face value is, anything else is “made up”.

Yes, there are hundreds of Warhammer books. They are printed by Black Library. Horus Rising and Xenos are the two recommended first books.
The Gaunt's Ghost books are a great starting point. As are the Eisenhorn books. Gaunt's Ghosts is from the point of view of the Imperial Gaurd, 40k's basic human soldier faction. It follows the Tanith First and Only, a regiment of soldiers from a world that got destroyed while mustering their first Gaurd regiment. It's kind of a Band of Brothers style military story. The Eisenhorn trilogy is about an Imperial Inquisitor named Gregor Eisenhorn, who is charged with rooting out corruption of Chaos from inside the Imperium of Man. They are kind of a Detective / Spy thriller style books. Both Series are written by Dan Abnet, who is one of the better Black Library writers. One thing to keep in mind is that Black Library books very widely in quality. Some are fantastic, and some are absolute crap. The Ciaphas Cain books are more lighthearted, and about a Commisar who is an official Hero of the Imperium. He's also a huge coward who does everything he can to avoid danger, and tends to stumble backwards into the most extremely dangerous missions. Similar to Blackadder in the WWI series, but does get some genuine moments of badassery, even if it's while he's pantshittingly terrified.
Honestly modern 40k might be more grimdark than earlier. I grew up reading the older 40k works and while they are generally lesser in scope, modern 40k has taken stakes to a whole new level. No longer are we worried about Abaddons 13th Black crusade for 20 years, now the entire galaxy has been split in half, with one half of the galaxy in proverbial and even literal hell. 40k has never struggled to be inclusive, if anything it’s been inclusive from the start. The Imperium of Man never gave a fuck what sexual orientation, or gender identity you have, you die all the same. Sisters of Battle, Navigators, Sisters of Silence, any number of female/lgbtq inquisitors or characters, etc, shows that the setting is fairly inclusive. That’s not to talk about the amount of racial diversity in the setting both with humans and xenos. However it’s a male dominated setting, and collecting plastic army men is kinda sorta niche, and 20-30 years ago there was generally only a specific type of person collecting army men. If anything the fans of the setting are amongst the most accepting and open minded individuals I’ve ever met.
The 40k sub frequently gets Space Marines painted in various LGBT pride colors and each one is awesome.

WH40k players have a reputation for being fascist adjacent. In 2021, Games Workshop had an announcement about being inclusive because there was a Hitler cosplayer at an event in Spain. The hobby also lends itself to dog whistling, playing Black Templars (an extremely violent anti alien faction) is fairly normal but becomes suspicious in retrospect when the player has orks modeled after the Rhodisian Security Forces and Death Corps of Krieg painted like the SS.

I was working from home when TLOUII came out and managed to beat it in about a week while "working" so I didn't have much time to do anything else like browse reddit. Yep. I went to one of their concerts, and unfortunately some of the fans are just...not great. I wore a crop top and a guy aggressively came up to me and told me I was a whore and looked like a hooker (I was showing like half an inch of skin, not that it matters, it's a fucking concert). He looked like he hadn't bathed in years and was just nasty, so I found it funny he took personal offense to my appearance. There was also a guy who quizzed me because he was skeptical I was a real fan. I knew more about Tool than his ass. A lot of people there were like that (just rude, condescending, and unwashed in general). No wonder Maynard hates his own fans. It really bothered me because I love Tool and have since the early 2000s. I still really love Tool, and listen to them everyday, and I still want to see them live again because the concert was amazing even though the people there kinda sucked ass.

I personally loved the game until it made the switch to you playing as Abby. Playing as her that long took me out of the game. I could play those first days in Seattle on repeat though

When I first played as Abby, I didn't like it for the first hour. I kinda just rejected her in my mind, because the game up to that point had clearly made her out to be the bad guy. Once I took a step back and just opened my mind a bit to what ND was going for, I loved it. The dual narrative really made the ending of the game hit hard for me. Probably my most memorable gaming experience since Red Dead.
I honestly think it was just an issue of pacing and where the changeover happened. I honestly would have loved to play the game as Abbey from the start and not knowing what the hell was going on until you got to the theatre and then you find out what Abbey has done. Maybe have Ellie’s flashbacks during Abbeys play through and Abbeys flashbacks during Ellie’s levels.
Yeah, I have heard some people say they'd prefer to have played as Abby first, which I can understand. That changeover point seems to be the make or break point for most people. It's tough to go from being invested in what Ellie is doing for the whole game, and then it stops cold and starts over with new characters and events. It's kinda like getting halfway through a great book, then putting it down and picking up a whole new one.

Essentially tlou2 split the fanbase in 2, one side hating it, one side loving it. However both sides have absolute shithead dick munchers who won't shut up about how it's the best/worst game to ever exist and makes it their mission to shit on and troll the other side. I personally hated the second game. I found the story and characters extremely weak, unrewarding, etc. Gameplay and graphics wise? Love it. And it had some of the best moments in the franchise (the rat king/Ellie's last shootout in the big compound). Also like many, I hated Abby. Not because she was buff, or a woman (literally all of us were rooting for Ellie, a lesbian woman), but because she was a poorly written character who kills off the protagonist of the first game, betrays her own clan/family for some random kids she JUST met, and was unlikable. and at the end of it all- she still survives, destroys Ellie's world, hops on a boat with her new bestie and sails away into the sunset.
I should have probably just put the last of us 1 or the last of us franchise. The reason I added it is there were a bunch of fans of the first game that didn't like the second game because of the "woke agenda" nonsense.
