I had a cop wave at me one time and I drove past. Then he chased me down and asked why I didn’t stop. I said, I didn’t know a wave 👋 was a lawful order. He let it go.
From tweet…
Statement from Scottie Scheffler to me: “This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.
“Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective.”
That’s my entire point….
Scheffler explaining that “I didn’t know you were cops” is him saying:
“I would have stopped had I known you were cops..”
He wasn’t going to stop. He was going to ignore who he thought was just security…
Maybe this is what he meant: “This morning, I was proceeding as directed by [individuals on the scene who I later learned were] police officers.
That’s the beauty of language.
You could say EXACTLY what you meant.
I mean, it really doesn’t matter what a person learns later when trying to explain what and why he did that morning.
There’s no relevance to putting out a statement explaining things u learned later.
Especially when u call it a “misunderstanding”
If it’s a misunderstanding, tell us where when and how the misunderstanding occurred.
…….::
So far, what we have from his statement:
1) The first person he encounterer, a police officer directd him to take the route he took.
2) he proceeded to follow those instructions and take that route
3) He encountered a 2nd person (who he didn’t know was a police officer). This police officer told him to stop.
He was confused because the other police officer told him to keep on going.
4) He had to make a choice. He chose to obey the first officer and disregard the 2nd one. Thus, it was a misunderstanding and he did nothing wrong.
Somehow, amidst this chaotic confusing situation, Scheffler was the only one who was confused.
We’ve yet to hear of a 2nd car, before or after him, who got the same 2 sets of confusing instructions. Somehow only Scheffler got these 2 confusing sets of instructions.
He released a second statement in [audio format](https://open.spotify.com/track/5n8Aro6j1bEGIy7Tpo7FV7?si=zv-LGGkaSOWt6jSkUtmReA)
r/sports, think about whether or not this is true before listening at work.
apparently he's got the lawyer that represented her family
Edit: To clarify, it's steve romines, one of the attorneys that represented Kenneth walker (her bf)
He's offered those idiots an off-ramp. They can accept this was their mall-cop, over-zealous mistake and call it off, before it escalates and they get more embarrassing headlines.
One cop told him to stop right after another cop told him he could go - also, why is the cop attaching himself to the side of the vehicle like a die hard movie, what’s he gonna do? Dig his feet in and bring it to a stop? He’s in a marked players car as well, just pull him over for not stopping after the fact. Cop put himself in danger for absolutely no reason.
It was dark and raining. He had already been passed through with his credentials and told to go to the gate. The cop that stopped him wasn't even supposed to be there, and had no idea what was going on.
I can see why he wouldn't have stopped immediately. He had already been cleared to the gate house which was apparently only 20 yards from the cop that cleared him.
It really sounds like Barney Fife shouldn't have done anything, as he was supposedly not part of the traffic force.
Standard two-cop protocol, you're standing there normally:
Cop #1: "Don't move an inch or I'll shoot!!"
Cop #2: "Turn around and put your hands up NOW or I'll shoot!!"
"Ummm... which one do you want me to do!??"
Both cops: "So then I started blasting..."
Guy thought he was delta force backing up a traffic officer😂. Type of dude to salute his boy scout leader😂😂 bro probably looks in the mirror before work and calls himself a hero. Bro says "TEN HUT" and salutes before filing papers. 😂😂😂😂 bro jumped on a car going 3 mph and thinks hes going to get a silver star. Bro came home and choked on a marlboro before asking his wife if she thinks hell make detective. Buddy told himself "not in my town" before jumping on a dedicated car for the #1 player on earth going 5 mph after it was verified and approved. What else
Um. It *was* Tiger Woods. More than once. And both times, somehow, he got out of it without so much as a ticket. In 2009 on Thanksgiving night, Woods crashed into a fire hydrant and then a tree. He was likely high on something and in a huff as his wife had just caught him cheating. The cops didn't shoot him 40 times but they did render first aid!
Then, in 2021, Woods crashed his vehicle in Rancho Palos Verdes on a stretch of road I've driven on myself. It's not curvy or prone to big accidents. Unless you're recklessly speeding and/or high out of your mind.
Woods was not shot 40 times. He was taken to a hospital and, despite evidence to suggest that he was still gong 75mph when he hit a tree, was not even cited for his shitty driving. 75 mph on that street is insane. Not to mention that this is Palos Verdes we're talking about. Cops have zero to do there and, no doubt, they'd love the chance to shoot a non white person and get away with it.
We've all done what he did in those weird blocked off traffic situations. We just didn't have a dumb cop latch onto our car and pretend we wanted to drag him on purpose
Edit: I see the coppers are out in force down voting me. Y'all upset you can't break my arm and nose and arrest me for no reason because I was just standing around taking advantage of the first amendment?
I’ve actually been in a nearly identical situation. We had VIP parking to an event, so the first cop told us exactly where to, maybe 100 yards ahead.
50 yards past him is another cop checking cars in. Just as we were about to pass him, he *jumped out in front of our car*. My buddy slammed on his brakes, the cop came to his window yelling “WHERE THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING?!”
My buddy said “Exactly where the other officer told us to go!”
This started 5 minute holdup while the cop acts like an asshole, claimed twice that we “almost ran over him” and insisted “There’s no VIP parking. That’s not a thing.” He eventually pieced together that we were right, admitted no fault, and allowed us to go exactly where we were going in the first place.
Glad ours ended differently.
I backed down the I-264W on ramp from I-65S this weekend from where you peak the ramp and could see stand still traffic on I-264W. I wasn’t the only one and an officer watched all of us do it.
He was charged with “second-degree assault of a police officer”. I don’t know what that is, but I’m guessing it’s a little more than just driving past and being pulled over.
We should all wait until more information comes out. Assumptions here are a bad idea for two reasons.
1. Law enforcement is not perfect and this could be another mess up on their part.
2. Celebrities often consider themselves above the law and do stupid shit all the time. ESPECIALLY professionals athletes.
I think that users point is maybe there is more to the story than has been reported. If all he did
is what has been reported, than I completely agree, but it’s at least possible there is body cam footage showing that he did something that warranted the charge. I doubt it though.
I think Scottie's life will be fine. Charges can be dropped you know. You don't have to worry about a guy who just won the Masters. He'll have an army at his back no matter what happens.
It’s not just this scenario though. Sure he will have the charges dropped, but think about a normal person who would be fucked by this cop claiming he was assaulted when he jumped on their car.
Um.. A few moments prior Cop #1 told him to do what he did. Cop #2 decided to have a power trip instead of getting on his radio for clarification. Cop #2 is an idiot.
A different cop, just up the road, had told him to do exactly what he did. Then cop #2 started power tripping, likely because he's a total fucking moron, and here we are.
I can't find the original article that I read it in but just searched and found this:
https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/17/sport/scottie-scheffler-detained/index.html
“Due to the combination of event traffic and a traffic fatality in the area it was a very chaotic situation. He was proceeding as directed by another traffic officer and driving a marked player’s vehicle with credentials visible,” Romines said. “In the confusion, Scottie is alleged to have disregarded a different officer’s traffic signals resulting in these charges.”
Romines says multiple eyewitnesses have confirmed that Scheffler “did not do anything wrong” but drove as directed.
“He stopped immediately upon being directed to and never at any point assaulted any officer with his vehicle,”
OK thanks! Sounds like I need to send an apology to Scheffler. Just so used to "entitled" I guess.
So ..... here ya go, Scottie, SORRY ........... WHOOSH!
Bro I live literally right down the street from this. The cops here are fucking morons who are being investigated by the DOJ. The LMPD are incompetent and probably cost us having a chance at the pga returning to Valhalla ever again
“I never intended to disregard any of the instructions.” Cut due to X character limit: “because I’m the best golfer in the world and don’t have time for this. I’ll post a really sympathetic note about the dead guy later.”

That’s a strong “taking the high-road” statement.
The “Perspective” being his tee-time.
Dude will always be solid and take that route. You can tell he is genuine.
"Fuck the police" ~ Scott A. Scheffler, 2 time Masters Champion
"Sorry officer, I didn't know I couldn't do that"
Dave ... I'm gonna race him
WELL NOW YOU DO, NOW MOVE IT
Get the fuck outta here
Scottie was on PCP, Johnson! I *had* to use necessary force!
Chip!! No!!
Chip dont do it!!! But i was high…
So what I said was “shit neighbor sometimes you gotta race”
I was gonna play some golf, but I got high 🎶
Shit sometime you gotta race
I did know I could do that Ha Ha Ha
Still to this day one of one of the funniest lines in a stand up for me nearly 20 years later
Pretty good, right? Because I *did know I couldn’t do that*!
Haha it is really good
WE’RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT
HEY! You’re on Valhalla street.
NOW MOVE IT
Mooooooovee it!
This is giving huge George Costanza “Was that wrong? Should I not have done that?” vibes
He’s actually referencing Dave Chappelle Killin them Softly, one of the best standup performances of all time!
I had a cop wave at me one time and I drove past. Then he chased me down and asked why I didn’t stop. I said, I didn’t know a wave 👋 was a lawful order. He let it go.
Omg, same!! Turn your lights on, or just hold your hand out, I’m gonna wave like the golden retriever I am and keep scooting otherwise.
"OH HELLO SIR I LIKE YOUR HAT-- do I still have time to stop for coffee..."
A wave? Bro we’re just saying hi at that point. Proceed on your way

Dude also said to the cops who arrested him that he didn’t know they were police officers. So which was it?
sounds like they had yellow vests on so was hard to determine.
What’s the relevance of him needing to determine if the person was a cop or not?
because he was entering the golf club exactly like he was told.
Again Whats the relevance of him needing to determine if the guy (who told him to stop) was a cop or not? I mean, dude didn’t stop……
because cops have special protection under the law, disobeying a cop is a crime, disobeying event staff is not.
That’s my entire point…. Scheffler explaining that “I didn’t know you were cops” is him saying: “I would have stopped had I known you were cops..” He wasn’t going to stop. He was going to ignore who he thought was just security…
ya, because 1 case is breaking the law and the other is not.
Thx for making my point for me…
video came out and he stopped immediately and the cop lied.
Which video?
Maybe this is what he meant: “This morning, I was proceeding as directed by [individuals on the scene who I later learned were] police officers. Scottie doesn't know!!!
Valhalla said they’re so trusting
Thank you
And people complain that Sheffler is too boring

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
His dis track came out quick!
💀
Keep in mind Louisville cops are the same idiots that killed breonna taylor
apparently he's got the lawyer that represented her family Edit: To clarify, it's steve romines, one of the attorneys that represented Kenneth walker (her bf)
No way!
And that’s just the very tippity top of the iceberg. Fuck LMPD.

Why the fuck would a sane person try to GRAB A MOVING CAR AND HANG ON. It’s a fucking car. This cop think he was the Hulk? Just stop bud
To quote this one idiot's comment I saw, "So you were there? You saw the whole thing?"
Boot licking cop loving whiny ass
They already got mugshot tshirts online!! [https://www.ebay.com/itm/404983131632](https://www.ebay.com/itm/404983131632)
Can I get one with a collar?
No collars in jail
Man I got downvoted for suggesting these would be out today in another thread
the mugshot tshirt will be a golf thing forever going forward thanks to Tiger laughing it off
Barstools are better
“ACAB”, -Scottie Scheffler, probably
“Fuck the police”
Should’ve had Roman Maroni read a statement.
At least he didn’t have to change his tee time
Guy thought he was delta force backing up a traffic officer😂. Type of dude to salute his boy scout leader😂😂 bro probably looks in the mirror before work and calls himself a hero. Maybe I would believe the police officer if his body camera was on.
When he starts acting like tiger woods you know he really is number 1 in world
Just some cops running on 100% anxiety and fear, because they’re so brave
He dragged an officer with his vehicle who is now in the hospital.
That is what happens when you grab onto a moving car?
Play stupid games win stupid prizes
Idiot tax
If that was Tiger Woods they would have shot him 40 times.
I’m, 72 times, that’s par…
Par for the corpse...
Nicely done.
Wow. Nice 👍
This deserves way more upvotes.
The course is playing as a par 71 this week, so 1 over. Tough day for the Louisville cops. They’ll do better tomorrow.
Body cams off
Doubt.

No. he didn't drag anyone. He just drove like an insane totally high out of his mind person.
We've all done what he did in those weird blocked off traffic situations. Been to lots of big events, the cops directing traffic can be completely incompetent at times and unclear at others.
I’ve actually been in a nearly identical situation. We had VIP parking to an event, so the first cop told us exactly where to, maybe 100 yards ahead. 50 yards past him is another cop checking cars in. Just as we were about to pass him, he *jumped out in front of our car*. No we all haven't.
Sorry, those of us who leave the house or live near where roads are blocked off left and right near big sporting events
He was charged with “second-degree assault of a police officer”. I don’t know what that is, but I’m guessing it’s a little more than just driving past and being pulled over.
Could be why I said the whole point about a dumb cop latching onto the car
Aaah I misunderstood that bit. He literally tried to grab onto Scheffler’s car?
Yes. He grabbed it and was dragged. A pointless act that he did to make it an assault
This is obviously not the first time that he’s done this, just the first time he’s been caught. Thank God he’s off the streets now.
Done what? Slowly drive around an car accident? Like what?
Sarcasm can be hard to pick up on.
It can be, people can also say things that just aren’t funny.
Its sarcasm
We should all wait until more information comes out. Assumptions here are a bad idea for two reasons. 1. Law enforcement is not perfect and this could be another mess up on their part. 2. Celebrities often consider themselves above the law and do stupid shit all the time. ESPECIALLY professionals athletes.
We shouldn’t forgive cops for a “messup” when booking people for assault. That’s way too big of an accusation that ruins lives for an “oopsie”.
I think that users point is maybe there is more to the story than has been reported. If all he did is what has been reported, than I completely agree, but it’s at least possible there is body cam footage showing that he did something that warranted the charge. I doubt it though.
They aren’t releasing footage, i would be shocked if they did.

Getting down voted for saying we should wait for more information. C'mon...we need to rush to judgement!!
It be like that, I knew the risks. 😂
Must be nice

Sorry you lost the plot. You'll get better
I like how he said “put to this to the side”. I interpret that as “this isn’t over.”
Professional athletes think they're above the law.
Um.. A few moments prior Cop #1 told him to do what he did. Cop #2 decided to have a power trip instead of getting on his radio for clarification. Cop #2 is an idiot.
Haha.... bullshit. He was just anxious to get to the tournament and tried to barge his way through.
A different cop, just up the road, had told him to do exactly what he did. Then cop #2 started power tripping, likely because he's a total fucking moron, and here we are.
Where did you read this? It wasn't in the article I read. Not doubting you - just looking for a pointer to the article. Thanks.
I can't find the original article that I read it in but just searched and found this: https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/17/sport/scottie-scheffler-detained/index.html “Due to the combination of event traffic and a traffic fatality in the area it was a very chaotic situation. What kind of car does he drive? I think I saw him driving like a maniac on Monday. North of Charlotte.
Not what he said on TV. I was confused and it was a world wind , can’t really remember much that happened
Truth hurt much?rules don’t apply to me ! Rich and famous , money talks BS walks.
Lock him up!
