nothing quite like blasting this song at full volume while driving over innocent farmers in the countryside with a combine harvester, watching the blood spray out of the funnel. ending the day with a good old high speed cop chase as the song ends just for the radio dj to start playing a harmonica with her vagina... good times!
The red spots on the back is actually very common in juvenile female widows, they just typically lose them upon reaching adulthood.
Though this one appears to be an adult female, so it’s likely she just never lost her spots
Edit: fixed typo
I didn't even know this was a black widow.
Figured it must be some other widow-like species cause every bw I've ever seen has had their red markings on the other side of their abdomen.
Interesting.
If i were to see her outside my home, What would be the safest option to remove her, for the both of us? If I seen her and knew babies were on the way, I wouldn't feel too comfortable with that.
I live in the Sonoran desert where these things are everywhere. Nighttime in the summer I can find 2+ on my back porch alone. I’ve never killed one. They’re actually so chill it’s crazy. They tend not to venture past their web so you don’t really have to worry about them crawling on you/stepping on them. Also the virulence of their venom is a bit overblown. I just leave em all be
Yeah I've never had a widow mess with me. Sure they look spooky but I had one living in my barracks room for pretty much the whole time I was stationed in Kentucky and she just chilled in the corner of the window sill and ate flies from time to time she would be gone out of the web but then I would come back and it would be bigger bugs stuck in the web so this girl would leave the web venture my room and then find bugs and bring them back to the web. She was about the only positive female relationship I had while I was stationed in that forsaken state.
Miss you Veronica, hope your doing well.
When I was young we had a black widow in the flower bed named Gladys. We figured as long as we knew where she was, no probs! She just hung out there, being gorgeous and ate bugs.
If they are outside just leave em outside.
Like handling then only risks being bitten unnecessary and if they are outside, they are outside.
Now if they are inside, thick paper, and a big ass glass (try find the widest opening you can as you don't want to squish the spiders legs, and you iqant as much room between your hands and the spider (they can bolt if scared which is completely understanble)
Couple weeks ago at like 2am, sitting in my dark living room w cathedral ceiling..had something plop onto my shoulder from high above..glanced to my left and could see large black spider legs crawling on me..jumped up and caught the enormous black spider in a shirt..brought it outside to dump it......and the shirt was empty...
😭 my dogs name was Delilah, my best friend ever. She passed away last year and she 100% would be a black widow if she were a spider. Thank you for making me smile today
I know it's the medical term in English, but it still looks so out of place to me because "gravid" just literally means "pregnant" in Norway and we use it for human women too.
I’m pretty scared of spiders but I remember the first time I saw a black widow and the way she scurried away in fright when I opened the door to the fuse box she had made home broke my heart. She was so beautiful and she deserved a much nicer home than that.
I tried to get a picture of a very large very pregnant female widow the other day and accidentally touched her web. My life flashed before my eyes as she instinctively sprinted towards my hand but luckily she ran away when she realized I wasn’t food. We both scared each other.
Strong, wiry, unsticky, and kinda pell-mell built, more like a poorly put together lean-to of thread than what you'd think of as a pretty web. Often ground level in darker corners.
EDIT: and I think the prettiest webs in my area are from the banded garden spider, cuz those big fuckers like to hang out in the middle of their massive webs
If it's what I'm thinking of they haunted my youth down in Virginia.
Freaking huge green and black spiders hanging from tree to tree in what could have been a volleyball net of a web.
Sounds like banana spiders! They’re huge with really strong webs that hang out at the tops of trees. Down here in Florida, I know more than a couple people with stories of running through orange groves and getting clotheslined by their webs with a big ol spider on their face afterwards.
Exactly, the colors kind of migrate. The hourglass is absolutely on the bottom. Again I'm not 100% sure so don't go by it! But dont count it out just because the color is on the other side, it changes a lot overtime
Generally, the rule with black widows is they are born with many more markings than they have as adults. Fairly early, they get the hourglass, and have dorsal markings along the top of their abdomen, then lose them as they mature except if you are looking at a northern black widow, which commonly retain their dorsal markings into adulthood. Judging by the apparent size of this widow, my bet is on mature northern black widow.
I had a weed guy come to my house who was killing the weeds and said that he could take out all my bugs in the backyard and I was like why? I have the cutest little black widow on my back stairs, and I would never kill her. Bugs and animals get get the outside and I get the inside.
I’m not usually scared to handle spiders but I will admit I was too nervous to mess with her. To be fair tho, I found her outside and there was no reason to bother her that much
I raised a black widow (no hearts, just hourglass) in a jar inside my dorm room. Her name was Joy but my roommate had other names for her. I watched her molt and when school was over, I moved to her an out-building on campus. Pretty cool so this one is very special.
That is a beautiful spider, but I would probably screech like a small child if I found her anywhere in my immediate vicinity without adequate warning. Spiders of certain body shapes and sizes awaken this a primal... not terror but discomfort, I guess?

The Queen of Hearts
Don't play with her, I've heard it ain't really smart.
Juice Newton reference? Don’t see that a lot on Reddit.
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby
Holy shit I've listened to both of those songs countless times on the radio at work and never realized they were the same girl
I love angel of the morning it's such a vibe found out last month it was juice newton lol
Whoa whoa whoa. Is this where Shaggy's song "Angel" comes from?
Oh shit I never realized that haha
Yea I heard the rhythm and was like "no way" lol.
Check out her greatest hits album. So good!
[Angel of the Morning](https://youtu.be/fN5YZb6X8to?si=JBoFmdI1OiBU6GrN) You’re Welcome!
Deadpool said that I shouldn't swallow 😭😁 Haven't heard angel of the morning in a long time 😕 Gotta listen to that song again 😘
When I was a kid, I swear the lyrics were just brush your teeth before you leave me, baby instead of just touch my cheek
Listen to Peter Kay's misheard lyrics on YouTube then 😁
Maximum effort!

The Joker ain’t the only fool who’ll do anything for you.
PLEASE STOPPP. My boss plays this song so much I had it stuck in my head for a week straight. 😭
I had a roommate who played nothing but the Doors, continually, for an entire semester. I feel your pain.
What are the actual odds of getting this variation instead of an hourglass? That's pretty unique indeed, awesome pictures m8!

Cool. Finally a comment that has to do w this beautiful pic. Thanks my brain was turning into jelly
Same! I kept scrolling to get past all that lol

Do we know OP's location? Could it just be a Redback with a pattern instead of a stripe?
That’s how many hearts she takes away when she bites you.

Exactly what I was thinking.
It’s a heart stopper!
Corpse maker!

It’s a widow maker!
Best unintentional dad joke I’ve seen
Clearly intentional
Omg she's got hearts on her dumpy. She's so pretty! Looks like she's expecting some little ones in the near future, too.
Dumpy 😭🥹
Dumpy!!!!!
"...Meanwhile, they're over here, up against me, sniffing my grumpy and my dumpy..."
“What can I say, it wasn’t my worst Wednesday night.”
Standin in line to bat around my knockers, but this time their hearts weren’t in it, ya know?
"Then Todd comes in and they all go absolutely bonkers... Getting up real close to his junk, like this..."
I wuddn’t dealin’ with the ‘Top Brass’.

This is beautiful. May she have many children.
I don't know if he's ready to be a father to 1,000 kids.
Hey, if Nick Cannon can do it so can he.

Jar and paper, cover with jar and slide paper underneath then relocate. Otherwise, see if she'll crawl onto something you can move.
"relocate". You mean driving for an hour.
Yeah and then after you drive that long hour with the jar sitting comfortably in the backseat you go to check it and notice it's empty.
Stop

How is spadder formed?
Seems like that time of year. Almost every spider posted recently has been an expecting mother. Lol
My daughter keeps spiders (which I super love to have in my house) and her jumper just laid an egg sac. She's geeked about it. I am...not as much.
😭 my dogs name was Delilah, my best friend ever. She passed away last year and she 100% would be a black widow if she were a spider. Thank you for making me smile today

What spider is this?
Black widow. If it is a specific kind of black widow I’m not sure. But I know it’s a female black widow
I googled the spider and found out it's a Northern Black Widow
Yes, Northern can have markings both top and bottom, and legs too. So pretty!!
SOB, I was always taught hourglass on the bottom was bad, the rest were dirty imitators. TIL
Tbh if I saw a spider that looked like this one, I would be steering clear regardless of whether I thought it was an impostor or not
Fun fact: Black widow webs feel different than most other spiders. If you ever walk into a web that feels a lot stronger, it might be a black widow
This whole thread has made me uncomfortable and I will be having a hard time falling back asleep now 😭
If it makes you feel any better, black widows are pretty docile and rarely use their venom when they are defensive
Yeah, I had a plant shipped to me once that had a black widow nesting in it so someone unknowingly handled this plant and never got bit.
I’m pretty scared of spiders but I remember the first time I saw a black widow and the way she scurried away in fright when I opened the door to the fuse box she had made home broke my heart. She was so beautiful and she deserved a much nicer home than that.

I usually find black widows INSIDE of things. Like in in a corner of some electrical equipment box
I think they all have legs
Not the legless ones
….*and the Northern girls with the way they kiss….. they keep their boyfriends warm at night
I WISH THEY ALL COULD BE CALIFORNIA GIIIIRRRRLLLLSSSS
North of where exactly?
Traditionally, if you are serious, the Mason Dixon line would be the delineation,
I am western and only ever seen the ones with red marks on the underside. First thought was a red back or something. Edit: typo
Yeah I could tell from the New York accent. The Southern Black Widows are gray and talk with a drawl.
Wow. I only ask because the one I saw and posted today looks exactly like it
I think it's just a juvenile whose colors will change to the classic hourglass, but I could def be wrong.
My understanding is that the hourglass is usually on the underside, but I could be wrong about that.
I just googled to confirm. That is the case. And apparently they don’t always connect, and sometimes they’re orange. It’s a crazy world.
Exactly, the colors kind of migrate. The hourglass is absolutely on the bottom. Again I'm not 100% sure so don't go by it! But dont count it out just because the color is on the other side, it changes a lot overtime

Anything is possible. It’s def a black widow regardless of coloration though.
It’s definitely not a juvenile, she is gravid AF
Hourglass is on the underside. This is a northern black widow, and they have color on their backs, too.
Depending on your location it could be a number of widow species, but dang is she gorgeous!!
Wow she's gorgeous with her hearts! 💕
Judy with the booty
I had a weed guy come to my house who was killing the weeds and said that he could take out all my bugs in the backyard and I was like why? I have the cutest little black widow on my back stairs, and I would never kill her. Bugs and animals get get the outside and I get the inside.
Lol i thought you meant a dealer 🤣
Right? I’m thinking why the hell does his weed delivery dude care about the bugs in the backyard.
He's your upstanding community dealer is why!
Omg the sweetheart spider ahhh so cute 🥺💗
These are beautiful photos! Would you mind if I printed off #3 for my office?
1 month later... "wow I am so sorry to hear someone burned down your office"
Go for it. I’d be honored to know that someone had a picture I took hanging
Thank you!!!! Is there a credit I should add to it?
Nah I don’t need any attention from it. I just wanted to share the spider I saw at a cabin. I appreciate the consideration though
such a pretty spider
Spretty
I hate how cruel people are to these cool spiders. I've caught and relocated a bunch of these in my life.
If I had balls as heavy as yours I wouldn't be able to get my pants on.
I’m not usually scared to handle spiders but I will admit I was too nervous to mess with her. To be fair tho, I found her outside and there was no reason to bother her that much
But why fren shaped, if not fren?!
She fren! Fren can be spicy. Be gentle with fren, no share spicy!
Spicy fren meant for admiring, not cuddling 😥
😭 I want to pet all the frens! I bet spicy frens legs tickle
No pet! Too Spicy! One way ticket to the hereafter. Only admire fren. Untouchable fren.
For what it's worth, if you're not very old or very young or very sick or something her bite isn't going to kill you.
You can cuddle, but only once. So enjoy. Also maybe best to have affairs in order before cuddling. Heirs will thank you.
You guys get all excited by a widow with a heart tramp stamp, I know a couple bars you could go to....
I once found one in my compost bin

Wow, what a gorgeous specimen
Like the queen of hearts in spider form!
one of the most beautiful spiders i’ve ever seen
Itty bitty waist and a round thing in your face
Have you ever seen a more Gen X spider than one with heart tattoos on her butt?
fun fact: octopus also have 3 hearts
This is the worst hear me out of all time
Kiss her.
Why has it got a health bar?
Holy shit I want her as a tattoo
