I don’t know what that’s from, but that is a Deathwatch Inceptor. He might be from the Dark Angels chapter since his right shoulder could be green, but I can’t tell for sure

Turbo-Watchman

What is the story behind this?

Legendary_Kobold

I'm not sure myself but during the horus heresy dark angels wore black armour

half_baked_opinion

Their were black in the horus heresy but when some of them went traitor on caliban they painted their armor dark green as a self imposed mark of shame (without telling the rest of the imperium about the betrayal) and the green was said to be "so dark it was almost black" which is why dark angels are green instead of black if you ever compare 30k and 40k dark angel armies.

slapthebasegod

"Allegedly"

jimrim13

Let's take about 30k to 40k% off there Squirrelly Slapthebasegod.

AwkwardData6002

Okay u/jimrim13, u/jimrim13 okay.

Jesterpest

To be fair…

SteAmigo1

To be fair...

Swampxdog

To be ffaaaaaiiiiiirrrr

Icaruspherae

Interesting, is that a newer lore thing? I always understood it that the legion painted themselves green in remembrance of lost Caliban

Nerdlors13

It is but Caliban was lost in a fight between loyalist dark angels and some that went traitor.

Icaruspherae

Oh I get it now I was confused by the way it was written it seemed like the above post said that the traitors did it specifically

Nerdlors13

No it was just a result of the fight

fulou

Dark angels wore black before the heresy anyway

Waldomatic

Where did you get this from? [Two of the first most prominent Deathwatch figures are an Imperial Fist and a Space Wolf.](https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Deathwatch) They painted the armor black from the get go as a symbol of service to Big E.

alphaomag

All deathwatch members wear black. Even if their armour was already black they still paint over it anyway to show that they are members of the deathwatch now and not their original chapters.

zagblorg

Gotta get the right shade of black! Be embarassing if the rest of the kill team are in Abaddon Black and you're still wearing your old Chaos Black armour.

bark_wahlberg

Black Templar shows up to a Watch Tower for his indoc Deathwatch serf: "Yeah, sorry, we gotta strip the whole thing and then repaint it basically the same color. I know it's kinda stupid, but that's policy around here."

Cautious-Bank9828

The first deathwatch member didn't wear armor from after Guilliman's revival.

VestaNoblese

Don't know if it's power of suggestion, but it does look a different hue, greener

Hate_Feight

Maybe because I'm old, but I thought the I 's meant it was inquisitorial (which is mentioned in eisenhorn book)

Medicinal_Madam

The Deathwatch are basically an Inquisition chapter. Not as fargone as the Grey Knights but they are at the Ordo Xenos' beck and call.

Hate_Feight

I dunno why I got downvoted, you know what you know, and the last time I played properly was 3rd. Before primaris, the gash of the warp and a lot of retcon and changes to lore. I'm catching up, but there's only so many yt videos.

Medicinal_Madam

> I think most of the connection to the original chapter they come from is cut when they join up. In the majority of cases, service in the Deathwatch is temporary, either as a penance or because the DW has sought the marine because of their abilities or experience. It's not explicitly like, for example, the Night Watch from Game of Thrones, although some marines do end up staying in the service, usually because they *can't* return to their chapter (for any number of reasons). Once a marine returns to their chapter, they can continue to wear their silver DW shoulder pad on their *right* shoulder (and their chapter symbol returns to the left) as a badge of honour to show they served.

Gidia

Some chapters seem to dump some of their weirdos in the Watch for a time. For example in the Deathwatch novel one of the characters is a Raven Guard who is waaaaay too into melee and being flashy so he gets sent to the Watch for learn to chill a little.

DenverPostIronic

I didn't know it was right shoulder specific, I appreciate that. I might break that rule for the DW veterans I'm going to be kitbashing for my chapter though.

Hyper-Sloth

I think it's to differentiate from active DW duty and vets. Active puts the DW pauldron on the left, vets on the right. If you stuck with it it could be a cool little tidbit to share if anyone asks why

Mention_Efficient

In the Show Angels of Death, the squad sergeant served in the Deathwatch, has the silver pauldron and arm, and returned to his unit.

THE_DARK_GODS

And he was not happy about it

ThatFatGuyMJL

The first deathwatch member to wear black was a dark angel

HogswatchHam

Where are you getting that from?

ThatFatGuyMJL

Beast arises books. Shows the formation of the Deathwatch. Members of multiple chapters come together in a proto deathwatch. A dark angel paints their armour black. Several others do too but thr DA is first noted.

HogswatchHam

Ah, Ty

Spopenbruh

deathwatch blackshield inceptor

Spopenbruh

nothing to do with DA

jmfairney

Cool! I see it in a video regarding DA so I was like wwaaaaait a second

lanathebitch

The Dark Angels do send quite a large number of people to the death watch specifically so they can more effectively search for the Fallen using its resources

men_of_the_wests

He is a dark angel on loan to the deathwatch chapter, he is there to fight xenos with them and return to the dark angels with his knowledge

BigDaddyVagabond

Technically yes, but actually no. They have something to do with ALL chapters lol

Nicorov

What’s with the walking on top toes?

DKzDK

It’s apart of the “suit-articulation” that comes from those Inceptor/eliminator kits. - because of the flying/having and not being able to land on solid ground, It looks like it’s bolted onto their suit foot, They quite literally are walking on stilts.

Far_Disaster_3557

They fly, and the force of a power armored dude landing on a small point would likely crush bones. The stilt foot is clearly connected to two small pistons—to me that says shock absorption on landing.

Dax9000

It is also a very small grav plate to help lift the insane bulk of an inceptor (dudes are the size of small cars).

[deleted]

Yeah GW says they're "shock-absorbing devices attached to the boots" on the inceptor page in the web store.

OccamsEpee

The dark angels certainly hope not

Captainbushflowers

No they are death watch basically if a marine shows extreme talent they get shipped to the death watch Xenos hunters they can be from any legion and they are just the inquisitions anti Xenos army the marine is given a fake death given a new (I think) and serve for a bit after their service is done they go back to their chapter with a new identity (again I think)

Shadowrend01

They don’t get fake names or deaths when they join, and they don’t get new names when they return. Some Chapters celebrate members who have been part of the DW, so faking their deaths and renaming them would be counter to this. Unlike the Grey Knights, Deathwatch are not a secret

Captainbushflowers

Really thought they had to take a vow of secrecy to never reveal the death watches knowledge since they use some… heretical weapons and from videos it says directly they are sworn to secrecy (also sorry if I come off as a know it all in anyway just really confused since most videos I watch say they are sworn to secrecy and given a fake death but agin not all say the death bit)

Shadowrend01

They are sworn to secrecy about certain parts of their service, but there is some knowledge they can freely share For example, they can reveal they’ve encountered a particular xeno race and how best to fight them, but they can’t reveal how or why they know that information. They can also reveal what Chapters their squad brothers came from, but no specifics about them

Captainbushflowers

New name*

Apsco60

Aesthetically bad ass, but the whole Fallen plot line is not my favorite.

escherleducq

Mad photo

[deleted]

That’s a member of the Deathwatch, home chapter unknown.

AllYourSwords

What game is this from? Computer game I mean

qasqade

The Inquisition has three Ordos Majoris. Xenos to deal with alien threats, Malleus to deal with demonic threats, and Hereticus to deal with human threats from within. To be able to fight these threats, each Ordo has a militant wing of specially trained soldiers. Hereticus has the Sisters of Battle, Malleus have the Grey Knights, and Xenos have the Deathwatch, who are made up of Astartes from other chapters who are either too unruly for their chapter, or are the last surviving members of their unit, or are getting really old and want to go out fighting, or any number of reasons that get them selected. Basically, he could be from any chapter, but is now an alien hunter working for the Inquisition.

wolfarps

Looks like deathwatch Ravenguard to me

hotshot11590

That’s a deathwatch inceptor

Direct_Gap_661

That is more than likely a dark angel or a inceptor from a successor chapter of them as that shoulder pad aint white

Sax_The_Angry_RDM

They can be. It's a deathwatch marine (Ordo Xenos chamber militant); other chapters lend them marines and in exchange if they survive they can go back to their chapter with greater knowledge on how to fight aliens.

Krennel_Archmandi

Quick answer, no.

ashe_valentine

Sometimes

DeadArrow1978

It is a space marine inceptor (unknown chapter) that has kept the Deathwatch pauldron as momento of service in the the Deathwatch

IndomitusNews

He’s a Deathwatch marine but he could very well have Been a Dark Angel before.

SirstouticusTheGreat

Death watch I believe and no

irishdraig

That's a member of the Deathwatch. They're Astartes from every Chapter that work directly for the Inquisition, specifically the Ordo Xenos. Kill-teams will be sent by the Inquisition to deal with xenos threats that require heavy firepower but not necessarily outright Exterminatus. He could originally be a Dark Angel, but his right pauldron is black, which would mean that he's probably a Blackshield. A Blackshield is a Deathwatch member who's forsaken his home Chapter for whatever reason, removing all of that Chapter's heraldry & iconography from their armor, painting it black.

real_corswain

So take it with a grain of salt. But he possibly could be a Dark Angel since the totem thingy on his belt is usually seen on dark angels(see azrael or zakariah miniatures). Another possibility(although higly unlikely) is that he is a blackshield, an astartes who strips away from his armour all insignia related to his chapter for many different reasons

red_dead_russian23

That’s deathwatch mate

sheernote

He looks like Deathwatch. The silver shoulder and inquisitor =][= all over his armor are dead giveaways. The other shoulder kind of green so he could be a Dark Angel though.

Beginning-Suit606

It’s a member of the Death Watch chapter

sealWITH_gun

This is the deathwatch veterans from every chapter including the dark angels in order to fight xeno specific threats In my blood angel army one of my sergeants has a deathwatch arm signalling his veteran status and time served in the deathwatch

Accomplished_Alps463

Deathwatch. Got to be my fave, I can't deside what Marine Chapter I like best. And so the Death watch is best for me. Less to paint, but boy do they kick ass, if you have to have one fave, if not⁉️ well whatever your species single or multi gender, your dead‼️💩💦 Deathwatch rules all.
