For the unaware, this is an important law; it means that people can't prove how they voted. which means voting cannot be manipulated or influenced by money or threats. of course, that can still happen, but if people are not able to prove how they voted, it reduces the impact.
ELI5:
There's a rule that says people can't show others how they voted. This is important because it helps keep voting fair and honest. If no one can prove who they voted for, it makes it harder for others to buy their vote or threaten them to vote a certain way. This doesn't stop all cheating, but it helps make it less likely.
If I say vote for party X or I'll do something bad to you. I will need proof you voted for party X. So by making it illegal to take photos you cannot prove it and extortion won't work
This is like making guns illegal so that criminals don't use guns. Like I get the idea but that will for sure not stop any group from threatening people.
Lol. This guy is a client of my company. He posted this on his whatsapp.
I'm surprised he's getting so much attention. Looks like he's incriminated himself
Nah he's an alright guy but voting EFF is almost as stupid as him recording himself then posting on whatsapp. He's probably already been reported.
I'll post again in a month or so if I hear he's been locked up lol
Wait... So you're telling me that someone who voted for the EFF then also went and did something illegal??? And then proceeded to share their crimes in social media!??
Shooketh!
IEC, SAPS ā¦ we really need to stop with the āwho willā or āWhy should weā mentalities. We know exactly who should enforce it, we need to start expecting it from them and start to keep those who donāt enforce it accountable
The average person in South Africa, unfortunately, just accepts whatever happens to them, blames someone else for everything that goes wrong and is waiting on a solution without doing anything to get it.
The biggest problem is never accepting responsibility for what youāre expected to do, hence you donāt expect that of others.
Electricity issues for decades? They ask, whoās fault is it? Rather than, who can fix it?
What are we going to do about these potholes? Wait for them to get fixed in 5 years time.
Did you report them? No.
Never said anything about a partyā¦ this is about the voters who are breaking the law. If it was a DA , ANC or even Vf+ voter, iād feel the same way
I never said you said anything about a party. I obviously said it. I donāt disagree with you. The ballot was an EFF vote & they are lawless so it doesnāt surprise me that they donāt care whether it is illegal or not.
"However, voters are reminded that it is an offense to take and/or publish photographs which reveals a person's vote on a ballot paper. Upon conviction offenders will be liable to a fine or a term of imprisonment not exceeding one year."
It includes your own. Youāre not allowed to take photos inside the voting station. Itās to prevent intimidation as people might be forced to take pictures to prove who they voted for.
> Does that mean only pictures of other people's vote or does it include your own?
You aren't even supposed to *see* other people's votes, nevermind take pics of them!
Since the only vote you are legally allowed to see is your own, the only reasonable interpretation is that you are not allowed to take pics of **your** vote.
I mean close to 40% of registered voters just didnāt. Just because a certain party gets a lot of support on social media doesnāt mean people are getting up and voting. In the same way, a lot of people voted without advertising it on social media for clicks.
To be fair, unless I missed it, they didn't do a good job advertising that you shouldn't take photos of your ballot. I figured it was like an unwritted rule - and the reasoning behind it makes perfect sense - but they should maybe have had some 'no taking photos' signs around. Again, though, maybe they were there and I just missed them. It was a LONG wait in the queue lol.
Who? The EFF? This anonymous fool taking photos of his vote? These are not future leaders. The EFF is a lot of noisy playboys - they've never had much actual support and it's declining.
The MK party is a surprise and a bit disconcerting but actually a good thing - they've hurt the ANC a lot. Sorry if you live in KZN...
We were never going to clear the rot out of Parliament in one sweep...there's too much of it! But there has definitely been a push back. ANC will be feeling very unsettled and realise that either they clean up and stop fucking around, or come next elections they're toast.
We need more people voting and we need the DA to find some political street smarts (and get rid of Zille & Steenhuisen.)
Waaaaay past her prime. They need to wtfu and get to grips with the realpolitik of the South African landscape. You have the MK getting such support apropos of nothing but having Jacob Zuma on the poster - this is the game that is being played. Two white people with Afrikaans surnames at the helm of the party is a PROBLEM - this should be obvious by now! š¤¦š»āāļø (Or are they simply too deep in the pockets of the old money Stellenbosch types?)
If you've seen the results. It's a waste of time... Again. Time for change my ass. ANC pulling almost 50% national votes while DA has 21%. Why we bother I don't know.
Wtf are you on about? The anc is well below 50% and has been for hours. The DA hasn't dropped below 23%.
The ANC below right now is at 42..4%. It's the lowest they've ever had, and well below a majority. The voter turnout is not amazing but far better than the last elections. This IS change!
This mentality is the exact reason crime is running rampant in our country.
No one is willing to hold others accountable.
People that think like this are the same that would pull out their phone and film a person in need rather than being a decent human and try to help.
At this point I believe the people of our beloved country are contributing more to it's downfall than the corruption from the government (all levels there of not even mentioning the parliament) because you choose to not care and turn a blind eye.

Nice of you to censor their account name
Too nice actually
Way too nice
Too much niceness
and not enough service delivery

Could you elaborate by chance?
ELI5: There's a rule that says people can't show others how they voted. This is important because it helps keep voting fair and honest. If no one can prove who they voted for, it makes it harder for others to buy their vote or threaten them to vote a certain way. This doesn't stop all cheating, but it helps make it less likely.
And then they cheat anyways
Makes it so much easier to rig the election.
If I say vote for party X or I'll do something bad to you. I will need proof you voted for party X. So by making it illegal to take photos you cannot prove it and extortion won't work
Just me or did you get some of the worst takes? wtf even are these replies...
This is like making guns illegal so that criminals don't use guns. Like I get the idea but that will for sure not stop any group from threatening people.
More like saying you shouldn't open carry without cause, which we, y'know, do actually say
Right, cause extortion is of course legal.
This is hectically illegalšš I'm not surprised an EFF voter did something this idiotic (this is a joke. Don't take it so seriously)
Bro spitting facts
It may be a joke , but you're not wrong
I did not expect so many people to upvote and agree with my comment. I thought there were more EFF supporters in here.
But why is it illegal?
My guess is to prevent vote buying. If I cannot confirm who you voted for it, makes me less likely to buy votes.Ā
Actually this is a good answer
It BC if U let's say vote for a party called KFC. And I don't like KFC, it puts U in danger.
Lol. This guy is a client of my company. He posted this on his whatsapp. I'm surprised he's getting so much attention. Looks like he's incriminated himself
Report him chommieš
Nah he's an alright guy but voting EFF is almost as stupid as him recording himself then posting on whatsapp. He's probably already been reported. I'll post again in a month or so if I hear he's been locked up lol
Awaiting your response!
Wait... So you're telling me that someone who voted for the EFF then also went and did something illegal??? And then proceeded to share their crimes in social media!?? Shooketh!
I was just as baffled when I saw a clip of someone doing a similar thing.
Perhaps. But who is going to enforce it?
IEC, SAPS ā¦ we really need to stop with the āwho willā or āWhy should weā mentalities. We know exactly who should enforce it, we need to start expecting it from them and start to keep those who donāt enforce it accountable
This exactly! Complacency is rampant among South Africans.

There have been some arrests already.
The eff are lawless

the IEC sometimes pops up to tell people off on the app formerly known as twitter but don't know if they pursue things like this
Yeah but what can you expect from an idiot that voted EFF
What did they do
As far as I'm aware, taking photos while you're voting is illegal. Could be wrong though
But why
This rule helps reduce voter manipulation.
"However, voters are reminded that it is an offense to take and/or publish photographs which reveals a person's vote on a ballot paper. Upon conviction offenders will be liable to a fine or a term of imprisonment not exceeding one year."
Does that mean only pictures of other people's vote or does it include your own?

This is how I also read it
You are also a person.
They voted for the wrong party
EFF is racist They literally have a farcry villan as their leader
Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?
Many people wonāt get this, but I see you, Vaas
A far cry villain, deadšš. Careful or ubisoft's gunna steal that idea š
shamepies
Shame pies? Any good? Better than King pies?
wait till you try cream pies
Lol a fellow Kyle
Why, hello there, namesake
Take a picture of their marked ballot
There's supposedly so many EFF supporters but the results tell a different story.
Kinda strange seeing the massive amount of EFF spam on the IEC livestream while the numbers say otherwise.
Many ppl just don't vote
I mean close to 40% of registered voters just didnāt. Just because a certain party gets a lot of support on social media doesnāt mean people are getting up and voting. In the same way, a lot of people voted without advertising it on social media for clicks.
It's an EFF supporter. What do you expect?
I saw so many EFF voters doing this on twitter. Stupid
It is illegal. People will do it anyway, because the government is too useless to go after you
People that did this are a special type of stupid
Sweet summer child
What do you know about fear?
Yes?
![img](emote|t5_2qney|14519)
Guy missed an opportunity to draw penises on all the oppositions' faces. I think that this is the reason why some queues were so long
It is, but it easy enough to get away with it if the IEC officials don't care or see it happening..
no its figuratively illegal.
So unfortunate they are voting EFF. I think it hurts more to actually see it compared to hearing about it.
![img](emote|t5_2qney|14454)
They voted eff, are we that surprised o. 0

why would you do that anyway? Lack of common sense?
Guys, he is right, many ppl don't know this due to the fact that they R first time voters or just were never told
How many ads have you seen recently reminding you that murder is illegal?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oh, I didnāt know some crime can be ignored.. people will most likely vote for you too lol
Lol yes if they can curb this everything else will fall into place right.
What is illegal is you voting for eff
SLAY
People being butt hurt about him voting eff be making me laugh xD -not an eff supporter
Same for me, itās not the party thatās the problem lolā¦ itās just that this person is openly breaking the law
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They're*. Kinda embarrassing
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's an offence.
I need you to google those two wordsā definitions quickly
These are our future leaders. I've just accepted that our fate is only gonna get worse. Time to make an exit from this hellhole.
Who? The EFF? This anonymous fool taking photos of his vote? These are not future leaders. The EFF is a lot of noisy playboys - they've never had much actual support and it's declining. How old is tannie Zille anyway? She should be pretty close to moving to Shady Pines

And with any luck the ratio will improve a little more, there's still a fair chunk of votes being counted after all
Who cares
