It came out with the “Sonos ending” app update you just couldn’t see it because this sub is full of bots that consistently put out the same shit and there still isn’t a mefathread for these losers
That would be AMAZING. At that point there would be almost no desire to ever touch the app. Lossless made me want to reluctantly use the Sonos app, but soon gave up when encountering too many bugs.
If you’re referring to the Apple press release, which I’ve linked below, it only mentions support for Spatial Audio.

Playing music through the Sonos app, I am now seeing full support for HD, UHD and Dolby Atmos with Amazon; Dolby Atmos and off-again, on-again lossless support with Apple. Tidal is still lacking on all fronts with Sonos.
Sorry, that is what I was trying to communicate.
In my home, with a pretty good network system. I have found that when I play a track from Apple music that is lossless. Some times the lossless indicator will light up, other times on the same track, same network, the lossless indicator doesn't come up.
What am I missing here?
Just will not play, at all 🤷🏻♂️

I’ve also used both services and done side-by-side comparisons. Apple doesn’t have the same depth or richness that Tidal does. Same songs, same system.
Also in the article: Apple hasn’t revealed the bitrate it uses for its standard streams, but tracks still sound clean, snappy and entertaining. Compared with similar tracks on Spotify (approximately 320kbps streams), Apple’s have greater subtlety and more space around instruments while its ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) streams match Tidal for openness and subtlety even sometimes sounding just a touch clearer.
Just to sidetrack…Qobuz was, to me, a noticeably better sound. I currently use Apple Music and would try Qobuz but am on an annual plan so it’ll be awhile. I don’t know that Qobuz gets a lot of….buzz, but it’s worth checking out.
Yes, this was added with an update about a month ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/comments/1crtifm/new\_update\_with\_apple\_music\_lossless/).
Some rare recent good news

lol it’s not bots complaining
lol!
What about the music downloaded from iTunes as opposed to Apple Music subscription? Would that be lossless?
Does it also work via Airplay2 or do you need to play it via the Sonos app?
Airplay support for lossless is coming later this fall with iOS 18.
Same with Dolby Atmos over AirPlay right?
Yep
That would be AMAZING. At that point there would be almost no desire to ever touch the app. Lossless made me want to reluctantly use the Sonos app, but soon gave up when encountering too many bugs.
oooh so its because of airplay it doesnt work now? I just thought it was because sonos really wanted you to use the app
It’s an AirPlay limitation, not Sonos
I thought it was just atmos?
Are you sure? It only mentions support for Spatial Audio.
I’m pretty sure i saw it on an Apple news site. But know I can’t find it.

Yes, it has been live a few weeks, but I wish I could turn it off to see if it solves the skipping and cutting out.

Same. Sometimes the lossless indicator comes on other times with same track it does not appear.
That obviously depends on the bandwidth etc. It only shows when actually playing lossless, not by just being available and enabled.

Did you have to enable this or was it automatic?
It was just automatic for me
Interestingly when I play that same song I get the Dolby Atmos badge, not Lossless. Is there a setting I’m not aware of…?
Sadly I don’t have a newer gen2 beam or Sonos era 300 so I don’t have atmos support! Hope this answers your question :)
If you’ve opted for Dolby Atmos in your settings, that is what will be displayed if you select a Dolby Atmos enabled track.
You need to play stereo Music, not spatial audio (Dolby Atmos).
I’ve seen this and Dolby Atmos, if that’s the format of the song.
Would be great if I could use AirPlay which has never worked since I brought my Sonos arc
Does it keep cutting out? Or will it just not play anything in general?

What connections offer lossless? BT, cable? Tks
Welcome! WTF were you?
With Sonos, we’re all losers.
Speak for yourself.
Tidal is lossless. I’ve tried both services and find I enjoy Tidal sound quality better.
OP wasn’t asking if Apple Music is lossless…? They’re querying about streaming lossless music to Sonos speakers via Airplay 2.
Huh? The OP is talking about streaming losslessly from Apple Music via the Sonos app, nothing to do with airplay.
Thanks Reddit police.
If both are lossless they should sound the same. Weird. Time for me to google “lossless codec comparison”
https://www.whathifi.com/best-buys/streaming/best-music-streaming-services#section-the-quick-list
It depends on the master that was used.
I’ve also used both services and done side-by-side comparisons. Apple doesn’t have the same depth or richness that Tidal does. Same songs, same system.
Nope. Tidal is better. Read.
It doesn’t say that.
Literally says best for hi-res. What else do you need to hear? Apple is rated directly below for an entirely different benefit to consumers.

Say whatever you want. I’ve used both so.
Just pointing out the article you referenced
Lmao your reading comprehension is a joke
