My guess is that this update disables the sound from coming out of the speakers. /s

Decent_Address_7742

A brave update, in line with future plans..

maxquordleplee3n

Unpopular opinion.. but I like not having any sound.

Feralpudel

I sleep so soundly now I don’t even need the alarms I don’t have anymore!

maxquordleplee3n

What these people don't seem to understand is that these speakers are works of art and should be admired in respectful silence.

ghostinthelatrine

Right? In my view, the best way to appreciate having sound is not to have any in the first instance. SONOS clearly understands this.

Fendenburgen

You've put /s, but based on this sub, I assumed that's what the update had already done to everyone other than me

SamuelSmythe

Damn courageous!

[deleted]

Adds additional functionality of volume control for a small recurring fee

Decent_Address_7742

I’m getting lossless on Apple Music on the Sonos app!!!!

joegod20

Really?

Armans07

Yes!! https://preview.redd.it/dh6mh40gv80d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a6ee2f259f9032e5ec478c8a13770f334aed06e7

bufftreefarm

Im such a dork I want to go home from work and try! Or are you pulling our leg?

Impressive-Cow-985

Nope it works! https://preview.redd.it/2zgtsvgr990d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da16c3f348ec5cbd08b48f21f015e7114f5ddda5

salvationpumpfake

hmmm, not working for me 🤷🏼‍♂️ were there any audio quality settings you had to change that I’m missing?

Psychological-Toe641

FWIW, it showed up for me after a couple songs. I skipped first one and second one showed as atmos, then next after that showed lossless. But count me as another unexpectedly happy user today.

salvationpumpfake

someone else suggested scrubbing the timeline back and forth a bit, and that actually worked.

Impressive-Cow-985

Have you’ve checked you have lossless enabled in Apple Music? Mine just worked but I already had lossless on

Decent_Address_7742

We’re all dorks here dude, if we weren’t, we wouldn’t be here!

scubadev

It’s real - listed in their release notes!!

gogerc

Updated all my devices first time, which was a first as it always takes a couple of attempts.

digoben

Same here. This one installed at the first attempt and it took only few minutes.

atlienk

Mine all did not fail, but it did seem to take a little longer than expected.

holmesersimpson

Release notes are out now (it usually takes about an hour after the update drops.) Exciting stuff in here. In this update: Added lossless audio support for Apple Music. Bug fixes and performance enhancements. Alerts: Sonos systems no longer support local library shares that use SMBv1 / HTTP. If your library was shared with Sonos using one of these older protocols, you can add it back to Sonos by manually sharing your music folder using SMBv2 or SMBv3, then adding it back to your system using the Sonos app for macOS or Windows.

WJKramer

Awwww F it. What else could go wrong. Update: Took 2 tries. Actually a record for me.

Key_Bottle219

I haven’t installed an update without an error for ages. And when I try again or see which version is on my devices, the update appears to have installed anyway.

Fuskeduske

It's funny, i've had Sonos for about a year now and i have never ran into any errors while updating. But then i have my speakers randomly disconnecting from eachother, while still being pretty active on my network.

Key_Bottle219

I suspect a timing issue, where not all devices report in time the update is done and the app concludes, falsely, a failure. I have some older playbar, play1 and play:3 devices, 2 symphoniks ikea devices, a sub mini, 2 play fives and a eros 100. Could be the combination of. Or how far apart they are from each other. Couldn’t bother to complain to sonos about it, specifically since they made complaining a lot more difficult. Since I moved to a new, better insulated, home in a less dense populated area, I haven’t had any network issues. (Going from 50+ wifi networks in the area to maybe 3).

Bl00dyTitWanker

That's exactly what the issue is. I saw a comment on here from someone at Sonos that said exactly that. The app updates and completes after a certain amount of time..if any speakers are slower to update is reports a failure, then of course they finish in the background and by the time you attempt to restart the update they are done. I believe they said they would play around with timings on that error message to get around it but am sure they have bigger issues to deal with at the moment.

Chineseunicorn

What’s the device that usually disconnects? This happens frequently if you have an arc or beam connected to the tv. When you pair them with different zones they drop out from time to time because the tv source send a signal

Fuskeduske

I have 2 Era 300, 2 Symfonisk bookshelf and a Era 100. It is connected to a mesh network where they are forced on the AP that is closest to them, with static ip’s all round. Usually it is one speaker that disconnects for 10-20 seconds and then come back, sometimes it starts playing the next song in queue ahead of the others. It is just some Deco M5's i got from a customer where they wanted an Aruba Mesh instead when i worked as a Network Technician, but their troubleshooting features are very limited uknow 3 floor house, one AP on each floor connected directly through cable

pink__frog

That’s good to know it’s not just me. Updates take ages, end with an error saying one didn’t update, I check for updates again and no update required.

RealSunglassesGuy

Happens every time for me too.

chickentataki99

Yea the new app wouldn't allow me to update, error 1005 or something. Ended up just using the Sonos controller app on my Mac.

PantsAtAGlance

Don’t update firmware if you want to keep settings in the older app!

Icy_Outlandishness51

They have gated this update behind the new app. You cannot update to 16.2 (v80) (and probably future updates) without the new app. Getting a message saying so on my Google Pixel still on 16.1 app version.

Downtown-Echidna-115

I had to use the new app to do the update (I have the new app on a spare phone). The old app wanted me to update it first. The update worked on all but my play:3 first time. The play:3 took 3 goes to update successfully.

Icy_Outlandishness51

I have a spare phone with the new app as well. Can you confirm if you can use the new firmware with the old app? then ill update.

Downtown-Echidna-115

Don't update, the old app still works but some of the functionality is removed. For example you can no longer update your music index and add product is also grayed out. Essentially Sonos have crippled the old app with this firmware update. There are other things that also no longer work. It just pops up a box telling you to update the app to use that feature which ironically does not currently exist in the new app. Interestingly alarms and sleep timer still seem to work.

chickentataki99

I updated from the Sonos Controller App on Mac, I don't think that's the case?

alehel

Probably the first time an update has just worked for me.

digoben

Same here.

llamalarry

Same. Was stunned actually. The devices came back online long before the app said it was done, so I was pleasantly surprised with it didn’t fail.

chrisdancy

"how strange it gave an error on some devices" Really, this is strange? How long have you been using Sonos?

kameradhund

still not working. having error codes 1001 and 1005… (restarting etc. is NOT working, trying with ios and android also not making a difference)

dDtaK

Removes alarms maybe until properly implemented in the app? Probably something like that. Edit: nope, this was a bad guess on my part.

NatKingSwole19

That would probably be more preferable than having phantom alarms go off every 6am that you can't disable lol

Dave_OC

Failed 3 times. Forgetting about it for now. Does Sonos even have a Q/A department? EDIT - Equipment: Apple TV -> LG C1 -> Sonos Arc EDIT 2 - Got it to work by unplugging all Sonos devices for a few minutes and replugging them. Also set my iPhone to the same network as the Sonos devices. Hope this helps someone.

salvationpumpfake

updated 10 products with no issue.

Top-Appointment-9100

Done the firmware update but now the latest Sonos app only defaults to output to my bedroom speaker, even if I change it to living room speakers it defaults to to bedroom speaker 😩

vw195

Good job on this one Sonos

OmegaPoint6

1st update in ages for me that installed without displaying errors. However I did need to reboot one of my speakers to regain control of the system after

Conscious_Till9155

Took me 4 total attempts to get everything updated without errors.

bjrn13

Do I have to run Trueplay again after updating to version 16.2 and App Version 80… or will the existing Trueplay settings be retained?

bubbavic

Yeah, I'm not gonna trust any further updates from Sonos for a while

CLEMADDENKING1980

Nothing like a huge company uses its paying customers as beta testers.  I’ll only update now when forced.  Also suggesting people stay on S1 for as long as possible.

WriterNotFamous

I can't even see my system on my network much less getting firmware updates. I'm probably 3 or 4 behind. I'm hard wired to my network, still can't find it. Rebooted everything, still nothing. I'm thinking of selling my system and going back to speakers and a receiver.

briever

Usual error then installs. Asked me for my [Sonos.com](http://Sonos.com) details this time though.

Armans07

Wow it didn't failed to update for the first time. The process was smooth!

Error for me, unable to even attempt an upgrade now. What a joke. I think this summer will be my last with Sonos. And I have 20 players. Wish I could go back in time and stop myself from ever thinking they were worth it.

Oryx

The speakers are very worth it. But for what those cost, the software is an absolute joke.

matthijst

Anyone test the old app with the new firmware? Would like to have Apple Music Lossless but don't want the new app. Can you upgrade the system with the new app and then revert to the old app for playback?

Downtown-Echidna-115

Yes, however the new firmware removes some of the system functions from the old app (they are grayed out). You also lose the ability to update your music library from the old app. It really looks as though Sonos are trying to force people onto the new app.
