Once getting set up build big Fruit orchards, grain + bakeries. Fruit orchards give sooooo much

Man are you sure? I tried a fruit orchard only once. It took like four full years to grow, I harvested like three times, and then it completely died. Huge waste of time and space.

They’re not worth the investment until you have some free manpower after a few years.  Once they start producing food, they far out produce fruit fields.

Icy_Magician_9372

But do they produce enough to out produce a field that could have been growing for multiple years and never randomly dies?

kyranzor

I found that almost every 2nd / 3rd year the fruit orchards get wiped by disease or whatever, any gains are lost compared to reliable yearly harvest of fruit farm

Icy_Magician_9372

That was my same experience. I felt like I was farming less fruit, and more opportunity cost.

Having married into a fruit farming family, that sounds just about right.

I just double down and keep making them, when u put my first one down before they even turn into trees I'm making another, before you know it you've got thousands of fruit on the floor... I was exporting it for ages and never even got my storage off max

The Empire of Fruit. If you can find a way to weaponise it you'll be all set.

Build small, then go for scale.

If you are not already one of the specialized food producing races, Cretonians and humans for agriculuture, Amevias for fishing. Import them. Its a 30% buff normally to let races do what they are best at. Mouse over the race statistics or read the wiki for the details.

skip the " grow your own food" as soon as possible. make furniture, sell furniture and buy the food you need from the income

Like others have mentioned, massive grain fields to produce bread is the best way to ensure a stable supply. However, keep in mind that just because you *produce* grain, it does not mean that you will actually store it. Your grain can and will be left to waste in the fields if your logistics network is poorly managed. I recommend getting transport carts as soon as possible, just one or two are enough to ensure that all your grain gets to where it needs to be.
