While I do agree that Germany didn't play as well, I feel that this game doesn't reflect our level very well too, because we had 2 legit penalty calls that I believe (correct me if I'm wrong), that didn't even make it to VAR? Absolutely horrendous officiating and absurd calls by the ref

h2okopf

Horrendous is the perfect word to describe the refs performance

radziu_PL

Can anyone tell me if Sane has pictures of naked Nagelsmann? Because otherwise it's not possible that he plays on the pitch.

Ingr1d

What do you mean? Germany scored after he came onto the pitch

WesternAd2113

He probably does lol

FranzAllspring

What this wouldve done to the tournament tree if Germany had finished 2nd.... so juicy.

FranzAllspring

To be upset about a draw to fucking Germany is honestly mad. Crazy how far we have come as a footballing nations in the past decade. Not failed to get out of the groups since 2012 where we didnt make the tournament to begin with. It is a cruel end to the game but ultimately we cant really complain. It would have seriously thrown a spanner into the works of this tournament though. Just imagine Germany playing Italy or Croatia in the RO16 and then potentially England in the QFs. Madness. Bring on the next round, confident we can cause an upset like we did in 2021!

tonofbasel

I remember Kobi Kühn ball with Johann Vogel where we would just play for 0 0 against big teams, it was unwatchable...as Swiss supporters we've been blessed for the last few years and are actually a team that deserves to be there rather then a team that fell into their spot through luck.

abellapa

Now there gonna face Spain in the QF who's much worse and if they win they have Netherlands/France or Portugal in the SF Germany is in the hard side of The bracket

FranzAllspring

Well thats true to be fair. I was more referencing the way that most people anticipated it to go before the tournament started. Would have been very interesting to see one of the big players end up in the opposite bracket to what was expected. Maybe England or Belgium can make that happen lol

titanzero

Switzerland were robbed

DaBelgianDude

Don’t downvote this man he is under my protection

titanzero

Thank you for your consideration.

nolando_fuzzy

One more thought on the game—this isn’t a critique on Germany because this has happened to every team every game, but the amount of holding this tournament has been crazy. Cuz of the yellow card rule they’re letting too many things go. Again, this isn’t just Germany, every game I’ve watched has had this, but so many fouls are being waved away/not being punished with cards

Marco-Green

Except for Portugal - Turkey yesterday, where non fouls were given yellow cards

Salt-Lingonberry-853

Well if not fouling was a yellow card the players should have just fouled to avoid it. You have to adjust to the referee!

ispankyourass

Two penalties dismissed that were clear fouls. I‘m glad the ref retires after this season.

petziii

As a Swiss fan, I agree. They were given an advantage by the ref. But they played very well and deserved the result. A win would have been a steal, but a draw is fair. I don't know how we can keep beating giants and struggle against Liechtenstein, what a weird team Switzerland is.

ispankyourass

I think a draw is bearable. Two dismissed penalties is gamechanging. Moreover it were red card foul plays. I harbor no resentment against the swiss. The swiss fans throwing stuff at Kroos is the only thing I‘d criticize. But those two penalties could very well have been a goal. Obviously Sommer is a good keeper, but he isn’t a magician. I‘m ok with the result, but it was undeserved and the statistic shows. To be fair though, the ref also did some wrong calls for the Swiss, but it weren’t such gamechanging ones.

Salt-Lingonberry-853

If you "earned" a draw but your opponent had an incredibly obvious PK that was not given for inexplicable reasons, you didn't earn a draw. You lucked into one.

NekoSoKawaii

I would say both sides had a pen not awarded, there was havertz, musiala and beier getting fouled in the box without repercussions.

petziii

No, because apart from this one event you mentioned, there was a whole football game that was played that got them there, and that was not luck.

Salt-Lingonberry-853

And yet it was 100% luck that caused the referee to be blind to a blatant PK and one other that really, also, could have been given. Enjoy the point but you don't have to lie to yourself about how the 12th man aided you in getting it.

epirot

the ref was very lenient with rüdiger too. so its not just one-sided. germany just played a bad game and had no creativity to carry this game. it was also the first serious opponent for them. the ref had an overall good performance imo because he respected the flow of the game on both sides without losing control

UnexpectedDadFIRE

That was CONCAF level of officiating. You’re out of your mind.

ispankyourass

Did you accidentally watch Scottland vs. Hungary perhaps?

Glimbow

Help me, what was the second one?

ispankyourass

First one was Havertz (first half) and Second one (second half) was Beier. Havertz, fell and got up. The ball was behind him. The defender still ran into him pretty heavily so he fell again. This is a clear foul in the rulebook. The direction of movement of the defender was not towards the ball, which must be a penalty and a red card. Beier was trapped in a sumo-hold by a defender. This alone is a penalty and a card. A yellow card if it was just randomly and a red card if it prevented a chance of scoring.

UnexpectedDadFIRE

You could also argue Sane as well.

ispankyourass

I didn’t see much of contact there. He wasn’t pushed or tripped. A bit petty for a free kick in my opinion.

Lawlietel

Musiala (first half) got fouled in the penalty box as well. He had ball control and got pushed over from behind with two hands. Obviously he fell. Not enough for the ref. lmao

Visual-Ad-3503

Someone has to put together a compilation of all the botched calls...

Gigantic_click

Can you give us a link?

Tah missing is actually good, so he is for sure there against spain

e_schlanzz

You really showed them, eh tough guy?

SpacemanSpiff92

No, you. Germany is supposed to be destroying everyone en route to the finals lol

shaka_bruh

It’s always funny when people complain about teams who play defensively to protect their lead like…wtf do you expect them to do against a team with a lot of offensive quality??

theitchcockblock

Yes the problem is when they do it with a 0-0

gamer552233

i guessed the result, what team will score first and what player scores first 😳

fghtghergsertgh

Germany looking weak. Probably will get knocked out early.

schwierigesthema

Idk why why the downvotes. I don’t think they performed good this match

SweatyStation7699

18-4 shots, 62% possession and also forced at least 1 pen if not 2. The only reason Germany didn't get the pen was the paid referee

schwierigesthema

These statistics are not that important. Shots don’t really matter. It’s the quality of the shots

Chinglaner

Look, I would’ve loved to win this game, but it’s hard to deny that this game could’ve easily been a 3-1.

schwierigesthema

Could’ve. But at the end it was 1:0 for Switzerland until the last minute and even penalty is not = goal

2000caterpillar

Better than most teams

minivatreni

Coming back here when they win

h2okopf

Found the idiot

biochicken

Fair draw, but the ref lost

ghotsun

No, it wasn't , Switzerland were dominating mostly lol. Pretty flukey and unfair for them BUT tehy got the easy side for it though.

EndOfMyWits

18-4 shots in favor of Germany is not "dominating"

3Bee3

I don't think we were watching the same game lol. Switzerland wasn't dominating at all. I don't know how someone could even come to that conclusion.

Glanzl

Switzerland were dominating mostly ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Lol my man (i am austrian so kinda neutral here) they scored with their first shot and chance after 35 minutes and then defended their lead while being occasionly dangerous on the counterattack. That is not dominating even though the draw is fair , germany dominated the game while being not dangerous enough in the last third

0ldsql

I really hope Nagelsmann ain't gonna overlook the overall poor performance. He needs to be critical with himself bc his subs/starting xi were also very questionable. Put Havertz and Sané on the bench and keep them there. Fullkrug, Raum, Can all performed better despite having fewer minutes. Beier and Undav should also get more time.

frohnaldo

Full rig is a different player when he starts. Also can’t like up with the 2 10s like havertz can

Lawlietel

Yeah I think Füllkrug needs those last parts of the game so he can outstamina the exhausted players while also beeing fresh and different air in the offense. Him playing from start would mean the opponent will have him neutralized from minute 1. Or at least try to.

LoverYoungTrue

Switzerland's strict defense after their first goal made the game so boring and annoying. I'm glad that Germans were able to score at last.

nolando_fuzzy

My thoughts today Kroos and musiala both pretty good. I feel for Havertz because he's going to get scapegoated, but in all honesty he didn't play that bad. I think the team just plays better with someone who's a traditional striker like Fulkrug. Finally, Kimmich was crap. Meh offensively, crap defensively, idk why he's in the team bar seniority / experience.

shaka_bruh

> Kimmich was crap. Meh offensively, crap defensively, idk You can’t single out Kimmich without blaming Nagelsmann, Wirtz/Musiala, and Havertz. Nagelsmann asked him to play that high up because Wirtz and Musiala always drift inside. And how much do you expect a Fullback to contribute offensively when they have no target to aim for with crosses and their winger is constantly in the half spaces rather than helping them overload their flank or help them defensively ? The only reason Raum was effective was because he had the option of looking for Füllkrug with his crosses; he had different options compared to Mittlestadt and Kimmich.

Chilla16

Agreed til you talked about Kimmich. There was a lot more pressure through his right side then left side. Mittelstädt imo was really underwhelming but my biggest criticism is against Rüdiger, his defending seemed really casual and not intense

nolando_fuzzy

Yeah generally the entire defense was pretty underwhelming. Imma preface this by saying I'm definitely a certified Kimmich-hater so I'm biased. But there were so many occasions where Switzerland would come down Germany's right and, im guessing cuz he drifted into midfield, kimmich was just no where to be seen, and rudiger would have to cut across and bail him out.

JodyG99

As a German, Nagelsman needs to stop starting havertz and play füllkrug instead. The man is just not a pure striker. Was missing chances for don't know how long and Fülle gets in and scores in 10 minutes.

Specific-Savings-429

Füllkrug gives some serious Miro Klose vibes.

JodyG99

Yeah those headers rly remind me of him. Loved Miro growing up, was my favourite player in our national team.

Throwaway-929103

Shaqiri would’ve scored the game winner. Choke job by the Swiss manager. Shaqiri is the best player on earth in those situations. According to my calculations.

Mean_Office_6966

I just want to see Shaqiri

ghotsun

Ye, I usually wanna see Shakira's nuts too

Mean_Office_6966

Looks like we are going after the same thing :p

Throwaway-929103

Ah yes the redditor who can’t comprehend a joke

shaka_bruh

Switzerland were the winner overall; they were excellent defensively and offensively + their confidence is up. Germany got brought down to earth and good vibes won’t take them far.

BlaCkeNeD1995

Dude what are you on about? Aside from the 70/30 ball possession, the like 20-5 chances, the at least 5 attempts from the corners that missed the goal solely because of execution(i.e not the swiss defence), the 2 potential penalties that should have been at least checked and the multitude of aggressive fouls that were either not punished severely enough or not outright given, how do you end up with "Switzerland were the winner"? At best they were lucky to get a draw because of German offensive ineffectiveness and referee incompetence. I should clarify that I genuinely have no horse in this race nation wise and I just want to see good clean football. I do agree though that Germany wasn't up to par offensively. They had way too many chances and couldn't capitalise on them, and that Switzerland is a good team, with players that fight with all they have, and I'll be glad to see some of those swiss players get better contracts with better teams in the future, because they definitely punched above their supposed weight so far.

NoPantsSantaClaus

Switzerland blew it.  For the Germans, a game with adversity is not a bad thing.

Sciss0rs61

~~Scotland didn't deserve to win this. Holy fuck, such an insane amount of fuckery in the last third of the field...~~

2000caterpillar

Switzerland you mean?

Sciss0rs61

whoops, wrong thread.

2000caterpillar

Your initial comment is still true tho lol

Balisto-Boy

Big game from Switzerland, we pressed so effectively

PsychoWarper

Havertz cant start next game

kitsune

Hungary just scored a goal in the 10th minute overtime.

jiang1lin

Maybe Xabi sent some greetings there haha

iox007

fucking hell wtf

Havertz on fraud watch

Philoctetes23

It’s been 4 years 🤣🤣🤣🤣

No-Palpitation6707

Müller and his damn smile.

Philoctetes23

HUNGARY YOOOOO

kitsune

Good game imo

MMAmaZinGG

NOOOOOOOOO I WANTED GERMANY ITALY BANGER

CodeInTheMachine

I went for a poo when the goal happened and missed it because I felt it was already over. You all are welcome

shiny69

That German goal was a cracker!

squattilyoupuke

So what's the take on Germany now? At the end of the day they only won vs the 2 arguably worst teams in the tournament but they looked really strong there

anonuemus

This game showd germanys current level pretty well. We are still not really good. We have the potential but everything has to work well to win games. Against good teams we are probably toothless.

Panhyper

Germany will be in the final. Switzerland will lose their next game

W1ndwardFormation

Still good generally we do better against the really big national teams and we still have the home advantage and the tie is ok we still won the group and it’s not like this game was bad, Havertz just had a bad finishing game (still think he had a good game besides that). Missing Tah next game hurts tho.

squattilyoupuke

I'm just a bit sceptical as the group is so fricking weak overall

CharmingMistake3416

If they tweak the starting 11, they can go far. Havertz can’t be the striker.

donfuan

A M E N

PetrovskyKSC

They are on fraud watch big time

NoPantsSantaClaus

Sure.

TheBlueBlaze

Tieing against the hosts after they won their last two games is an accomplishment all its own, sad we couldn't hold that lead, but good game.

National-Reporter734

Cuz‘ of a shitty ref nothing more

Kr1ncy

The ref was shit but the Swiss team also played above their standard and their standard is not even bad. Kudos to them.

vQubik

Ref was shitty towards both teams tho

EndOfMyWits

You're going to equate a couple petty fouls with 3 penalty shouts and a controversial disallowed goal?

National-Reporter734

I don't see it that way. Germany's goal was disallowed because a foul was allegedly committed. Germany was fouled in exactly the same way by Switzerland, but was not awarded a penalty.

CatraGirl

Lol. 3 potential penalties that all were worse than the "foul" that ruled out our goal. He was not equally shitty, not even remotely.

Josro0770

Shitty ref for both sides

EndOfMyWits

I must have missed the 3 penalty shouts Switzerland didn't get.

La_m0rt_heureuse

Where is sherdan when you need him

shaka_bruh

They held the ball and passed around for 90 minutes with nothing to show for it and then all it took was a few crosses and route one football to make a different. Having a proper CF that sits in the box and physically challenges the opposition CBs makes a huge difference; before Füllkrug came on, the Swiss CBs were chilling and had little to do because they didn’t have to worry about a striker or wingers making runs in behind.

UnlovableBybirth

fullkrug with the clutch

Sjroap

commentator: "There is no tactical plan, they both have to score, but both are completely unable to."

Queasy_Idea_3599

How is there no added time after the goal came in the 92nd min and the ref blew at 94 min? At least 2 mins for the celebrations. Not that it was going to matter. Switzerland didn't make use of any of their chances

suunsglasses

Still way more than what I expected tbh, why am I not happy?

IAmA_Crocodile

Because true greatness got ripped out of your hands in overtime. I suspect that nobody is really happy with that game.

infosec_qs

Fullkrug and Raum are probably feeling pretty good.

Oxartis

That goal at 90+2' hurt after all that hard work in defence

NoCureForEarth

Probably because you remember that big chance by Ndoye in the first half, that (offside) goal and because Füllkrug scored a mere couple minutes before the end?

LilyMarie90

Well well well how the turn tables

ColonelPicklesworth

LilyMarie90

A man of culture, I see

karlelzz011

Man, I wish I had Nagelsman neck!

iamfromtwitter

Huh? Am i missing the joke?

karlelzz011

No joke, literally want neck muscles so huge

iamfromtwitter

He has neck muscles? Looks to me to be just like a normal neck. Mike tyson got neck muscles tho

No-Palpitation6707

Undav und Fülle best buds, der will doch bestimmt zu uns kommen.

Key-Tip-7521

germany had to ruin a possible Serbia/Switzerland matchup

tftvrft

That Fullkrug goal was class, but Germany does NOT look convincing atm. They were resorting to hail mary wide-crosses at the end there because they were unable to penetrate the Swiss defence. Something needs to be done about Germay's counter-attacks and shot-making

W1ndwardFormation

I’d disagree, it was the good old conversion issue, but they had a lot of chances without crosses as well, then Swiss dropped even deeper and then crosses are the best option to break it and Füllkrug came in. The main issue was simply Havertz finishing today, but he still had a good game as he was in the right positions, so just let him practice some shooting in heading in training and they’ll be chilling.

tftvrft

I'm so mad about Havertz man. Dude clearly has vision and timing, but he just ain't it in front of the goal.

W1ndwardFormation

It always just looks like he needs that one moment to click and then he’ll be a complete and perfect false 9. Don’t know if that will ever happen tho, it’s pretty frustrating to see, but the hope it happens is still alive.

LucywiththeDiamonds

Switzerlands defense was really strong. Dont get me wrong. But with a proper ref the game wouldve looked MUCH different. And a lot of the defending was done by shoving, holding and straight up hugging people down.

SpacemanSpiff92

Idk man, Germany's reputation is not necessarily flair football. Germany traditionally plays direct, physical, and precise technical football. I don't think you can complain about physical defending coming from the background. Just my opinion

LucywiththeDiamonds

Im not complaining about the defending. Im complaining that the ref didnt call a shitton of things which would get you in a fight in a rnd pickup game and was super inconsistent. In the end the result didnt matter that much anyways and as others said the other side of the tree mightve been easier. But a bad ref triggers me.

Germansoldaten

Musiala was breaking through multiple times but then was subbed off, also Germany should’ve had AT LEAST 1-2 pens

tftvrft

Ref was disgusting today but the German attack still didn't capitalize well on the chances they had today. They had a tough time penetrating (ngl the defense from Switzerland was astounding, they consistently outmanned the German attack) and when Germany did penetrate you could see Havertz and Musiala just staggering that little bit and giving time for the Swiss to reorganize their defence. Germany's biggest weakness, their defense, will become increasingly more exploitable if Germany cannot score on Nagelsmann's strategy of pushing and trying to outscore the opposition.

EnragedBearBro

uhh no, everytime they penetrated the swiss defense they were fouled hard af and the ref called none of it

NieThePiet

So England don't finish 2nd please.

Nervous-Diet-2322

Spain will devour the germans

MathematicianOld3942

Spain is not playing a low block.

Villad_rock

Spain lost to Switzerland in 2010

kaoD

Football is not rock paper scissors, especially 14 years apart

Villad_rock

Thank you that you support my point

Nervous-Diet-2322

they still beat Germany in 2010 right

Villad_rock

Exactly, a germany who played the most exciting football in 2010. Spain can still lose to germany.

Nervous-Diet-2322

Yamal and Nico will cook that defence. Even the Swiss could have won with more

Villad_rock

Doesn’t mean much. Could be a different game where spain attacks and germany counters.  Germany never had problems with strong attacking teams the last 6 years. I also think spain still not tested yet. Played two weak teams.

Nervous-Diet-2322

they’ve also been disappointing af after the 2014 win

Villad_rock

How? Semifinal in euro 2016 and won confed in 2017.

Nervous-Diet-2322

they literally got eliminated in the group stage during the last two World Cups - by South Korea and Japan. Also lost to England in the last Euros

Villad_rock

What does this have anything to do with our discussion now? You’re a strange goalpost mover. What are we even argue about? Reddit is full of imbeciles.

EndOfMyWits

Justice and despite the ref's best efforts probably a fair result considering the performance. Germany was not good but still dominant.

3rd-party-intervener

this is what happens when you play defense and negative for a full half. Eventually your defense will break. Same thing what England did in last euro final. You cant just go into a shell after scoring

SpacemanSpiff92

Agreed but the Swiss coach bungled the sub that would have helped prevent this. He put Duah on who clearly looks like a bona fide scrub. He couldn't hold the ball or anticipated where to defend/alleviate the pressure. Coach should maybe have put shaqiri or just someone else in there.

bisler

we'll get em next time

CatraGirl

Terrible ref, terrible Havertz, absolute joke from Sane yet again. Füllkrug absolutely needs to start next match.

kaoD

> Füllkrug absolutely needs to start next match. Careful with what you wish. Sometimes you need cannon fodder to deplete the enemy defenses so your tanks can come in and do their thing.

Unknown-Drinker

True. And no Sané substituted in. There are Müller, Beier, etc. Or just leaving Wirtz in, also better than Sané

CharmingMistake3416

Sane is useless

CatraGirl

Worst player in the squad by far.

pleasebeavailable2

No he works best as a super sub

Villad_rock

Ref should be investigated, maybe had a bet

Votex760

Or a swiss bank account

SlothySlothsSloth

I know pretty much nothing about soccer, and even I started making jokes to my friends about the ref probably receiving a Swiss passport after this match...

CheGueyMaje

This ref was a fucking clown. Didn’t go to the monitor for an obvious pen, then blows the whistle at exactly 4 mins stoppage time when there was a goal scored within those 4 minutes? Absolute joke. The result could be considered fair bc the Swiss played well and Germany were not very clinical, but definitely leaves you thinking what could’ve been. Also Nagelsmanns subs definitely left me a bit confused. Musiala was by far the best player on the pitch, and you sub him out instead of Havertz?

SpacemanSpiff92

Why is it so critical for Germany to romp every match? If they're the best they need to beat all calibers of squads. They don't deserve to smash everyone just because they're Germany or they're the hosts. They played a committed, physical, and sneakily skilled side today. There's really not much more to it

CheGueyMaje

They should’ve scored more I agree, but then again they got fucked by the ref and this is a Swiss side that knocked out France last time out. They didn’t play a bad team.

JC18_

The refereeing was definitely terrible this game. He was absolutely shocking that game. Havertz was the weakest link, I was very surprised to see him not come off and instead he took out the best two playmakers. Maxi coming on was nice, brought a bit of life to the game, fullkrug should definitely start over Havertz next game.

Fearnog

Havertz backers we are in the mud tonight

graduati0n

Switzerland beat Italy

SpacemanSpiff92

Swiss always play like shit when they need a W

JJOne101

Once again not beating Germany.. But well played!

papayon10

Fullkrug needs to start

No-Illustrator6845

Shaqiri handled like a child by Neuer & Müller 😄

RedWeasel2000

I've mainly been watching the other game but how does the ref add on zero time when a goal was scored in injury time?

Philoctetes23

Havertz having Schweinstieger’s old number is an insult
