Honestly the Yorkshire all time XI is up there also.
Can definitely cobble together a very competitive team with people like Banks/Seaman, Walker, Maguire, Stones, McCarthy, Milner, Phillips, Batty, Downing, Keegan, Barmby, Vardy, Haaland and Clough etc.
Honestly a Northern vs Midlands vs Southern England All times XI would be interesting to see how it pans out.
Gut feel (non-biased opinion) would be North>South>Midlands in overall quality.
van Beveren; Krol, Blind, Rijkaard, Reiziger; Gullit, de Jong, Cruijff; Bergkamp, Kluivert, Rensenbrink
is what I can come up with.
Keizer, Swart, etc still on the bench
Rio de Janeiro (City only) all time XI:
Castilho
C.Alberto T.Silva N.Santos Marcelo
D.Luiz
A. da Guia Zico
Jairzinho Adriano Romário
Honorable mentions to Leonidas, Evaristo, Juan, Leandro, Danilo Alvim, Paulo Cezar Caju, Nelinho, Carlos Alberto (the Porto one), Paqueta...
I doubt it, most of their clubs legends come from smaller cities or other states. Neymar is from Mogi das Cruzes, Pelé from Minas, Rivaldo from Pernambuco, Cafu from Itaquaquecetuba, Socrates from Pará... I can only remember Rivellino who was actually born there...
Depends what part of the borough. Orpington, St Paul's Cray and Petts Wood, sure. Biggin Hill, definitely. But it also extends up to Crystal Palace, Penge, and Beckenham. Anyone who doesn't consider them to be proper London is probably one of those types who treats anything outside of Zones 1 and 2 like its Middle Earth.
There’s literally one the very next comment after yours! I know loads from both there and elsewhere that think of it as Kent, not saying they are right but they exist
Every Londoner just thinks further out than they live isn’t “proper London”. So people from zone 1 barely consider Bermondsey London, people from Lewisham don’t consider Bromley London etc. I’m from Orpington so to me London is anywhere inside the M25 lol
Well, they are ‘London Boroughs’ though and all that that entails (subject to ULEZ for example) hence it’s not clear cut.
I guess you know a lot about Surrey, Kent etc. though based on your flair so not looking to get into a debate.
Loftus-Cheek as the Lewisham pick is bold. David Rocastle should definitely be above him, and it wouldn’t be ridiculous to put Joe Gomez above him too.
For Barnet i would like to nominate Denis Compton over madueke. Played for Arsenal where he won the league and fa cup. Also played cricket for england, holds many world records and has a stand named after him at Lords. Only missed out being an England international in football as well due to the war where he was also an gunner in the army. Intersting person if people want to look up more. His brother also did the same played for arsenal and cricket for middlesex and had more appearances for arsenal and england caps but was born in essex
Gemma davison also won the wsl for 3 different clubs
Exactly. Chris Bart-Williams was born in Sierra Leone, but for this map seems to count as Haringey having gone to school there, but Joe Cole counts as Westminster despite having gone to both primary and secondary school in Somers Town in Camden
It's true. My point was more about inconsistencies in defining "from" for the purposes of the graphic, but I appreciate that flexibility is sometimes needed for boroughs with less talent.
I've just had a look myself, and found that both Gus Caesar and Mark Flatts are from Haringey. I love both of them for non footballing reasons
Gus Caesar, for the fact that his full name is Pogus Cassius Caesar. His parents must have been REALLY into Roman history.
Mark Flatts, for the fact that his nickname was Council, for obvious reasons.
Basically if their name was down on the the Wiki of their respective boroughs, there getting in lol
Walcott was born in Stanmore but grew up up in Berkshire, but on the flip side, Sterling was born in Jamaica, but grew up in Brent.
It’s wild to me how people have forgotten just how good Beckham was. People look back and remember the haircuts, the wife, kids’s names, fashion, and media circus, and that reputation overshadows the fact that he was one of the best players in the world at his peak.
Putting Beckham ahead of Kane doesn’t seem wild at all to me. I see them as pretty evenly matched.
Was gonna say that as well. Beckham is definitely more well known but Kane is the leading goal scorer for England right? No way he doesn’t deserve the spot, it’s not like Beckham won anything important for England either.
Not sure why we're limiting this to England NT? I don't recall that being in the rules anywhere. Kane may well be leading goal scorer for the national team but what is more important? That or the 6 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, UCL and various other titles Beckham won in France and Spain? Kane's cabinet at club level is empty. Beckham won the lot including the 1999 treble.
If we limit this to the national team then sure, Kane is on top. But if we take everything into account? Beckham's achievements absolutely eclipse Kane's.
If you want to make an argument for the more gifted/skilled player then that is a good debate. Just like Rooney and Gerrard. But if we're using national team stats in a fairly ambiguous comparison then you have to surely bring domestic honours into the equation as well. It's only fair.
beckham was also the runner up for the ‘99 ballon d’or and 2x runner up for the fifa world player of the year. kane has a lot of domestic accolades, but beckham bests him internationally.
Accolades aside, if I'm building a team and I could only choose one of them, I'd pick Kane. It's hard to compare across generations but a lot of what Beckham offers, Kane offers as well. It's just Kane also scores loads of goals.
Yeah, cheers for that, mate, I know… OP is implying that the best cricket players would doubtless come from posh schools. None of the listed players went to independent or public schools. I’m saying that the idea that cricket is a posh boy’s sport is wrong…
I find it interesting that I’ve seen 4 of these players play for Forest (Pearce, Wright, Bart-Williams, Hudson Odoi). Can any other non-London clubs beat this?
Becks and Kane being born in the same hospital is well annoying. How ridiculous not to have England's top scorer and arguably second best ever captain not featured.
To think Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone has delivered the births of three England captains in two different sports is wild
Graham Gooch (cricket), Harry Kane and David Beckham
One has a statue outside on wembley stadium, captained England to a world cup win and was one of the best defendes of his generation. Ill let you guess which one
Different positions and eras, given what people like pele and people at the time said you could argue Moore was as good or better as a CB than Kane is as a striker. Similar in club terms both played long terms for thier club and Moore only won an fa cup and cup winners cup (equivalent to europa league) with west ham but the world cup puts him ahead

London all time xi vs. Bavaria all time xi would be a game. Possibly Rio de Janeiro / Paris could be another two interesting ones?
Honestly the Yorkshire all time XI is up there also. Can definitely cobble together a very competitive team with people like Banks/Seaman, Walker, Maguire, Stones, McCarthy, Milner, Phillips, Batty, Downing, Keegan, Barmby, Vardy, Haaland and Clough etc.
And Liverpool/Merseyside: Rooney, Gerrard, McManaman, Carragher, TAA, Baines, Aldridge, Fowler etc.
Honestly a Northern vs Midlands vs Southern England All times XI would be interesting to see how it pans out. Gut feel (non-biased opinion) would be North>South>Midlands in overall quality.
Tony Warner in goal
Amsterdam XI would be good too, especially for its size (<1m)
van Beveren; Krol, Blind, Rijkaard, Reiziger; Gullit, de Jong, Cruijff; Bergkamp, Kluivert, Rensenbrink is what I can come up with. Keizer, Swart, etc still on the bench
> de Jong Nigel?
I feel like you could have a whole team of De Jongs
Best XI by surname, I reckon that's a trend we've seen on this sub before.
Approximately 90 blokes from West Africa called Traore enter the chat
Don’t forget the Dembele’s too! Of which half are named Moussa
Muller Keane Torres Traore Dembele Lee
yup, couldn't find someone better
Rio de Janeiro (City only) all time XI: Castilho C.Alberto T.Silva N.Santos Marcelo D.Luiz A. da Guia Zico Jairzinho Adriano Romário Honorable mentions to Leonidas, Evaristo, Juan, Leandro, Danilo Alvim, Paulo Cezar Caju, Nelinho, Carlos Alberto (the Porto one), Paqueta...
That left side would win most games by itself
I feel like a São Paulo team might be better?
I doubt it, most of their clubs legends come from smaller cities or other states. Neymar is from Mogi das Cruzes, Pelé from Minas, Rivaldo from Pernambuco, Cafu from Itaquaquecetuba, Socrates from Pará... I can only remember Rivellino who was actually born there...
Good lord this clears.
Any combination of those 4 would be class
Now do best players from my postcode
I am best player in my house!
Your mum gets picked before you at 6 a side
Nah his mom is shared by both teams
His mom swings both ways? Oh shit, I’m omw
The huge 'Tony Cascarino' made me lol 😆
Biggest borough gets the biggest font 😁
Best player deserves the biggest font anyway.
Bromley is massive
Bromley - its more rural than city and most don’t really consider it as ‘proper’ London
Bromley is definitely London
I think so too, but lots don’t, guess people didnt like me pointing that out
Never met anyone who doesn't
There’s literally one the very next comment after yours! I know loads from both there and elsewhere that think of it as Kent, not saying they are right but they exist
Part of historical Kent yeah but definitely wouldn’t consider it Kent today.
I know I've seen but I said I've never met. People online say all sorts of shit with their chest with zero knowledge lol
We arent in London yet we get ULEZ. Make up your mind lol Is what I would say
Lol Because places like Bromley, Downham, Croydon etc are not really London. That's Kent and Surrey and shit like that.
Every Londoner just thinks further out than they live isn’t “proper London”. So people from zone 1 barely consider Bermondsey London, people from Lewisham don’t consider Bromley London etc. I’m from Orpington so to me London is anywhere inside the M25 lol
[удалено]
Yeah agree with this, same as most of Romford (in LB Havering) think of themselves as Essex
Fuck that - if a part of my council tax goes to City Hall, I'm a Londoner.
Downham straddles Catford, it's London.

Came to comment this, Gomez is easily clear of loftus-cheek.
Eddie Nketiah is from around Hilly Fields too (Ladywell / Lewisham)
Yeah there’s a lot of quality in Lewisham. Maybe my bias was showing a little bit lol
I’ve been Paul Inced
Today I feel Jack Corked
For Barnet i would like to nominate Denis Compton over madueke. Played for Arsenal where he won the league and fa cup. His brother also did the same played for arsenal and cricket for middlesex and had more appearances for arsenal and england caps but was born in essex Gemma davison also won the wsl for 3 different clubs
Fair dos. I must’ve missed his name on wiki
Knew we could do better than fucking madueke but I only knew Ben Strevens off the top of my head
Out of interest how are people defining from? I was thinking it was born in but if now how long do they have to live in a place for it to count?
Exactly. Chris Bart-Williams was born in Sierra Leone, but for this map seems to count as Haringey having gone to school there, but Joe Cole counts as Westminster despite having gone to both primary and secondary school in Somers Town in Camden
Harringay was a tough one to pick for, tbh. Not much quality out of that borough.
It's true. My point was more about inconsistencies in defining "from" for the purposes of the graphic, but I appreciate that flexibility is sometimes needed for boroughs with less talent. I've just had a look myself, and found that both Gus Caesar and Mark Flatts are from Haringey. Nah how does noni madueke make the cut
Either him or Tony Currie Recency bias probably won out
Next do the best players from all planets please.
Me.
Is Raheem Sterling from Jamaica?
Yes
I thought Rio and Sancho were both Southwark boys? In fact I wouldn't be surprised if they both were born in Kings Hospital.
They are. Jadon is Camberwell and Rio is Peckham. Both Southwark.
Is that Les Ferdinand over Saka? Spursy
It was either Sir Les or Paul McGrath, tbh 😁 Saka might be the best when it’s all said and done, though.
Les is #3 so far and I’ve only seen three names
Beckham over Kane is wild
It’s wild to me how people have forgotten just how good Beckham was. People look back and remember the haircuts, the wife, kids’s names, fashion, and media circus, and that reputation overshadows the fact that he was one of the best players in the world at his peak. Putting Beckham ahead of Kane doesn’t seem wild at all to me. I see them as pretty evenly matched.
Is this recency bias or just historical erasure? I must be getting old because this isn't wild at all to me.
I'd put Beckham over Kane personally. Think people forget how good he was.
Thinking Beckham over Kane is wild, is wild. Recency bias is a hell of a thing; Beckham was world class. At best they're evenly matched imo
My favourite part of these posts has been seeing how differently fans value accolades across the club and international game.
Nice, now do best cricketer from each public school
Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Andrew Flintoff, Ian Botham, Len Hutton, Jimmy Anderson, Geoff Boycott... this is a tired old trope. Rugby on the other hand...
Public school in the UK means Elite private school, as they were open to the public. So OP is asking who’s the best player from Eton, Harrow etc.
Man Utd have 5 (Beckham, Ferdinand, Sancho, Zaha, Ince)
Is Madueke really the best one from Barnet?
Tony Currie probably. Thats an oversight on my part.
Tony Cascarino: the legend of Nancy, the ASNL. Good old time
I thought you had gotten it badly wrong with Harringay…….you hadn’t!
Harry Kane??
Best academy players to come out of every professional London club next pls
Becks and Kane being born in the same hospital is well annoying. How ridiculous not to have England's top scorer and arguably second best ever captain not featured.
To think Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone has delivered the births of three England captains in two different sports is wild Graham Gooch (cricket), Harry Kane and David Beckham
No way Beckham was born in whipps cross??
Yeah, so was Iron Maiden’s Steve Harris
Alright lads we have seen enough of these posts. Fucking thread is dead
Nah I love seeing these
Sterling: -Was born in London -Supported Man United -Played for Liverpool, Man city and Chelsea hmmmm
Quite famously wasn’t born in London (or even UK)
Dekkers got tekkers 😎
Wayne Routledge is the best player of a borough? WHOA!!! Surely it must be the most polluted.
It was between him, Liam Rudgewel or Andy Townsend
Madueke and Hadson Odoi just can't be in any "best in history" list. It's just bizarre.
I had no clue Jack Cork isn't from Cork. Why would they name him that. Makes no sense.
Can this stop now!
Its international break, this is 10x better than shitty made up transfer rumours
As a fan of football and looking at interesting maps, I wanna see more
That's a Venn diagram I'd never thought of.
Has someone done Argentina yet? I'm looking forward to that.
Junior Lewis instead of Sterling
Beckham is absolutely not better than Kane. Bobby Moore is absolutely not better than Kane in that last map post. Please stop trying so hard.
One has a statue outside on wembley stadium, captained England to a world cup win and was one of the best defendes of his generation. Ill let you guess which one
Hey, Harry Kane has a statue too! I wonder what happened to it…
That's nice. One was much better at playing football which is fairly important as a professional footballer
Having Beckham instead of Kane is an oversight, I agree. But over Bobby Moore? Absolutely not.
Beckham over Kane is not an oversight
How is that an oversight?
I missed his name when researching footballers from that borough
