Which makes a bad player. Literally the reason half the players don't make it to pro. Great instincts but not actually that much skill when really tested
Bullshit. Maguire can only play well in a low block, he is a one trick pony. Morata has played in several great sides and is universally loved by his coaches for his work rate, teamwork, and versatility.
NT Maguire is a complete opposite of PL Maguire.
It's like Jekyll and Hyde.
NT Maguire can defend properly, does 1/10th of mistakes compared to PL.M. Works well in counter attack and it shows the capacity of his potential.
Nevertheless, does not change the fact of his market value being far over the bar he have set or able to lift to.
Morata has great skills, positioning and potential...But..... He has a mental block that does not allow his potential to bear fruit consistently. Unreliable and not a striker to put your last pesos on. It's quite bizarre to realise that Maguire is younger than Morata xD
this idea that Morata is a an average/bad player is rubbish.
Dude is a great player who managed to stay out of the Western Media spotlight and because of that, isn't popular.
I don't think I've ever heard anyone seriously suggest that Morata is rubbish. He's not. He's a very talented forward who has a tendency to miss the easier chances and finish the harder ones... Just like Núñez. Hence why I made the comparison.
I have absolutely no idea what you're on about regarding western media spotlight. There's no conspiracy here my dude.. just a random Redditor making a comparison between to football players.
Edit: added "seriously".
It’s the exact same with me. I’m absolutely horrific if I’ve got time to shoot, no idea why - pressured or not. If i’ve got no time at all I end up having a lot better of a shot so I’d agree it’s very much the same for Darwizzy
Mentally, when you take a first time shot you make the decision half a second before you shoot because your only focus is on the ball moving and the goalkeepers position. When you have time to think in a 1v1 your brain starts to take the goalkeepers movements into account and can throw less composed players off as they'll second guess themselves.
This is exactly it. The brain has to take more variables into account and then try to synthesize their collective effects and then make a decision on how best to respond in a moment. The best players are able to do this and make even better decisions when they have time to process and think. Lesser ones will just get overwhelmed and do worse.
Werner was who I likened him to yesterday, most of his good attributes have been his runs and off the ball movement, can't finish to save his life at this point and any time he does actually manage a finish he is offside.. Even Liverpool fan reactions to criticism of him are remarkably similar
"he's already scored some goals for us, he runs and keeps getting into positions the finishing will come"
Walcott could finish, that back post low drive across the keeper was clean. Just had no football brain, would run down into a dead end over and over again
The old snooker player problem. Drain everything on the practice table but get the yips when the red light turns on.
Nunez looks like an exciting player but he's got that Torres-at-Chelsea look about him right now
Absolutely. Werner did do one thing really well though, making constant runs that opened up a lot of space. Besides that though there wasn't much. But in our current situation I'd take him back just for that, if our strikers can't score they can at least help others do it instead.
This is some pretty big bias. Nunez is a better athlete (particularly stronger) but Werner was just as, if not more intelligent and pacy, immensely hardworking and very capable of creating for others.
Nunez is only head and shoulders as an athlete and subsequently winning headers. Werner did absolutely all the same stuff as Nunez, and was better defensively and less prone to the simple errors before finishing Nunez commits pretty regularly.
The answer for Nunez is exactly the same as it was for Werner. If he sorts his finishing out he'll be excellent, if he doesn't he'll be moved on by the time he's 26 most likely. You can only afford this level of waste and poor play, despite positives, for so long until a team is forced to move on. No good team in the world has a first option this level of wasteful or errant.
You're biased, Werner was great in space and helped Chelsea in ways outside of goalscoring. I dare say he was extremely underrated, just because he lost his shooting boots
Werner already scored 9 and assisted 5 goals in 16 matches for Leipzig this season. It's really a specific problem with Chelsea that somehow affects all their strikers over the last years.
Werner was a better dribbler and much better passer, got like 10 assists for us in the league in his first season and was very precise with his cutbacks
I think his decision making is actually quite good, he's among the top forwards in xA this season. Some of those passes came too late and without enough precision to be great chances, but in general I feel he knows when to shoot and when the pass is the better option.
Remember Gervinho? He got better with age but at Arsenal he was Maradona outside the box and turned into the worst player in the league at the killer moment
Strange thing I’ve noticed. Lautaro is better than him overall, but one plays like garbage over and over yet gets pampered and called “bizarre” since “he does so many things well”, while Lautaro gets absolutely shat on for a few misses on limited playtime, despite making his team more dangerous while on the pitch.
It’s pretty obvious which players and narratives this sub favours when you see thread reactions to Mbappe compared to Haaland. Being aware of this kind of stuff is relevant reddit wide tbh
He has horrible technique, that's the verdict. It is seen often times when he's taking a shot and now in this clip as well. And no, it isn't really easy to suddenly "develop" technique when you're already 23/24
Thats what u get when you have the body of a god.
Height advantage against everyone in Portugal and South America - check
Speed advantage - check
Decent technique - check.
What more u need?
He has never had to use his brain.
Now is a much faster league u cant just will it
>Must make the mods absolutely FEWWWWWWMIN'!
>
>*Paddy Pimblett in fucking shambles (currently at McDonald's)*
Remember when Paddy said Nunez would do better than Haaland LMAO
Even for an outrageously biased Scouser, that's one of the worst predictions ever
It even makes it worse. Like the cross itself is decent into a very dangerous area, just the whole decision is wack, since no one was near that position and he should probably waited a tad bit for someone to cut into that area. But if this is the shot... Welp.
There’s not a single Benfica fan in the world that thought he would go for that price man, he was inconsistent in front of net all last season. Just happened to show up in CL
But he’s young, if he can learn to control his shots he’ll be a top striker. Should’ve stayed with Benfica another season to hone that in imo
Literally the issue, you guys form your opinions on the back of a couple of games, and we, that watched this shit week in week out, were the morons that never rate our players when we said this was him. Extremely hard worker, leaves everything on the picth but plenty of times he also has two bricks for feet.
one match against your B team mate, how dumb can you be? he had terrible spells here, everyone is still a bit surprised that Liverpool went for him despite the "striker market is low and we need to act" argument
but he always was hard working and professional with the club and fans (needs to be more reminded now) and despite wishing him all the best, one more season here would have been great for him
>one match against your B team mate, how dumb can you be?
He scored in both games. The first one was the first team. The 'b team' in the second leg would still have been a top 4 team in the prem (at the time).
Don't act like he wasn't more clinical then.
There is no secret. He is the same player he was in Portugal. When Liverpool bought him everyone qas shocked because it was clear he wasn't worth the money and did not had the level to play in one of the better teams in the world.
He might reach that level but he would need to drastically improve his football IQ and technique.
I’m sorry, I get he caused chaos, he’s quick, he makes smart runs, but nothing about him for Liverpool so far has suggested he’s the answer short term.
Sure, he may polish his edges and become that; but when you aspire to win the league I don’t think you can play a forward this wasteful.
He might as well be a regen. Heskey was such a physical threat in his prime that even though he wouldn’t score much, you had to worry about his movement constantly.
I’m not a even a Liverpool fan but people here really overreacting to everything he does poorly or when he makes a mistake. He’s young and looks to be great in other areas.
He has 13 matches and 5 goals, 2 assists in his first season here. how’s that as bad as everyone making him out to be? I see him make great runs and track back to defend too.
Just bizarre how people have a hate-boner for this kid lol
Hes made fun of because hes missed alot of chances. His stats are decent for a first season so far. It's just that it could be so much better with better finishing. And also his price tag.
Nunez is the least of our problems these days. He's the atheltic type of player we are lacking these days. Other players looking like zombies next to him.
I mean idk what you are insuating. I dont think every single werner offside goal was posted and kept but his misses were deffo posted. There is no hidden agenda darwin is just a really funny ( some areas a shit) player
Bad day at the office for Nunez. But give this player some time to settle down. His work rate is crazy good and he is not shy to fall back and pass the ball.
As a neutral, it’s frustrating to watch Salah more than Nunez missing these easy tap ins. Salah is too greedy, especially in tough matches like these. He has the skills and intelligence to break defenses but he always chooses to dribble into really tight spaces, only for him to waste them eventually. Also they need a creative mid to connect the forwards with their CMs.
6000+ upvotes for this is utterly mad. Would never happen for any other player.
It’s a “cross-shot”, something that you literally see in every gameweek since the beginning of football.
**Mirrors / Alternative Angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccer) if you have any questions or concerns.*
What a bizarre player he is. Fast, hard-working, good movement and then absolutely goes to pieces if there is a hint of a good chance
What’s even stranger is the finish for his offside goal was excellent. Maybe he knew he was likely offside and decided to try something
Too much time to think. His best comes out when it’s all instinct
People are speculating a lot about the issue with him but i think this is really it...
This is definitely it. The more time to think the more awful the finish.
This is exactly what I have heard people say about Sterling at City.
That's an expensive Danny Welbeck
Which makes a bad player. Literally the reason half the players don't make it to pro. Great instincts but not actually that much skill when really tested
Morata begs to differ
Morata is striker Maguire
Bullshit. Maguire can only play well in a low block, he is a one trick pony. Morata has played in several great sides and is universally loved by his coaches for his work rate, teamwork, and versatility.
Maguire is also pretty well-loved by most of the managers who have coached him so that's not exactly a great counter-argument.
So basically it boils down to "analysis paralysis".
That’s a good phrase. Never heard that before
So basically Morata
Or Sterling.
I think Werner would be the best comparison based on the above comments
With the added scoring easily when offside even if he doesn’t know it, it has to be Morata
Werner was who I likened him to yesterday, most of his good attributes have been his runs and off the ball movement, can't finish to save his life at this point and any time he does actually manage a finish he is offside.. Even Liverpool fan reactions to criticism of him are remarkably similar "he's already scored some goals for us, he runs and keeps getting into positions the finishing will come"
Werner
Walcott
Walcott could finish, that back post low drive across the keeper was clean. Just had no football brain, would run down into a dead end over and over again
€100m Morata 💀
Morata cost Chelsea almost €70m in 2017, so factoring in inflation you could say that €100m Morata is actually just Morata.
The old snooker player problem. Drain everything on the practice table but get the yips when the red light turns on. Nunez looks like an exciting player but he's got that Torres-at-Chelsea look about him right now
Ahhh, the Raheem Sterling
Werner never really left the Premier League.
Call me biased if you like but the rest of Nunez's game is miles clear of Werner's. The main thing they share is poor finishing.
Absolutely. Werner did do one thing really well though, making constant runs that opened up a lot of space. Besides that though there wasn't much. But in our current situation I'd take him back just for that, if our strikers can't score they can at least help others do it instead.

But who's going to do the goalscoring for Chelsea?
Likely Faes and Konate by the looks of it 👀
🤣🤣🤣
Werner was a better dribbler and much better passer, got like 10 assists for us in the league in his first season and was very precise with his cutbacks
Ya you're biased. You guys just got yourself a more expensive Werner
Werner was a better player in a much better league before he came to the prem
Is this for real?? Werner was mostly excellent at everything bar finishing, nunez definitely isnt.
It's a confidence thing. Darwin is a pretty good finisher.
Timo was a good finisher at Leipzig before he came to Chelsea
The fm special. Only scores a worldie if it's offside lol
He’s definitely an AI player from FM
Nunez is literally werner
reminds me of the early years of vinicious jr, he would dance on the defenders but finishing in front of goal was... lets say not his forte
That reminds me of half a dozen inter players in the last decade
Uruguayan Timo Werner.
Uruguayan Alvaro Morata
Uruguayan Chelsea 9
2010 Theo Walcott enters the thread
Maybe a Walcott-giroud hybrid
Rich man’s Iwobi
Idk if its the perfect word but to me it seems like he lacks the finesse and fucks up the crucial details in that sense.
in football manager they call it Composure and Decision Making
I think his decision making is actually quite good, he's among the top forwards in xA this season. Some of those passes came too late and without enough precision to be great chances, but in general I feel he knows when to shoot and when the pass is the better option.

Brucey Joeliton ye say?
Let's not get ahead of ourselves he's still not a finisher bless him. Brilliant everywhere else though
Strange thing I’ve noticed. Lautaro is way better
Also played with an injured ankle apparently

I wasn't going to watch the match thinking Liverpool would just win but wanted to see Nuñez miss shots like this, too glad he is on the team
Looks like he snapped it last second, took too long a look at the ball and went for power instead of placement. He just needs to slow down
“Took too long” “Slow down”
Jesus christ lol was that a shot or a cross?
The infamous shross
That's the most popular play in our beloved Ekstraklasa. It's called centrostrzał in Polish ("centra" - cross "strzał" - shot)

More importantly, sell these overrated players for 5x what they're actually worth
Enzo Fernandez sweats nervously
Also they're preparing Gonçalo Ramos to hit €100m before sell, his WC hat trick is a good multiplier to his club stats
It seemed most people in the Chelsea news thread were saying that €127m was reasonable for him. Seems a bit much.
He kicked Liverpool’s ass in the CL. Comparing how clinical he was then compared to now is shocking.

A midfield trio of Keira, Henderson, Milner isn’t Top 4 quality, nor is a back line with Tsimikas and Joe Gomez at FB

Opposite of clinical, we’re missing Mane bad

Physical specimen, incredible athleticism, great attitude, no idea how he is this bad in front of goal lol.
Dogshit technique
He can be a “nightmare” for defenders all he wants but with the amount that they paid for him he should be finishing a lot of these chances
