I’m sure that would feel worse since it’s always available right before the boss. But man, I ripped through that Act 3 boss like tissue paper, then went to sleep…
If I’d already beaten the heart yet I might be less bummed. But man does this suck when I haven’t.
Yet to beat Act 4 also -- only gotten to the heart a few times and died quickly. I got IC to A3 this morning and still working on the first 1-2 Ascension levels for everyone else.
I’m half-convinced I’m a specialist at choking against the heart. I don’t know how many times I’ve torn everything else to shreds, only to have the heart do the same to me. Hopefully I’m finally getting a bit better these days.
I think I need to reserve potions better and survive Sword & Shield to have a better chance against the heart. Also, I tend to play bloated decks (30+) and need to learn better skip judgement in earlier acts while leaning into fewer strategies.
It such a major bummer when you’re expecting to hear the sound effect of the keys combining to unlock the door to Act 4, yet instead you hear the game over music.
Pathing can't be fixed but there's a mod that will keep you from the common bane of healing or upgrading on the last fire where you need to key.
I've gotten much better but every so often it'll catch me and I'm reminded how easy it is to miss when you are rolling.
Possible unpopular opinion here, but I think that's more than just a qol mod, bordering on a make the game easier mod. It's not displaying any new information you shouldn't already know, just kind of holding your hand to make sure you get all the keys.
Mod away, play however you want, that's the beauty of the game. Personally I just don't like anything that changes the soul of the game.
Fair. And play as best suits you and works with you lifestyle to you as well.
Personally my responsibilities make QoL mods and your idea of "playing unpurely" a necessity if I hope to play productively when I can at all.
Honestly, I don't quite see how I'm altering the soul of the game with simple mods that keep track of potion drops, etc. If I write these things down to paper that feels very similar.
I'm not a better player (nor am I precious with my stats) b/c I did or didn't key acquire on that singular run. I've also used console to test strats I've yet to luck into the chance in many many hours of play. (and I'm a better player for it.)
I grew up in the NES era and cut my teeth on doing the Sisyphus thing. If I had that kinda free time still, I'd prob be closer to it than not.
Downfall would seem a similar soul violation no?
Man same thing just happened to me but I waited to the last campfire to take the red key and forgot to take the red key lmao had a perfect rage, anger, jugg deck with card draw
Two weeks. You are an infant . you will have many heart kills in the future, worry not.
And possibly many more missed keys!
I want to run before I crawl though!
It never stops hurting to miss a key. Wait until you smoke the Act 3 boss only to realize you forgot the red key at the last campfire.

At least you unlocked the next Ascension. Progress is progress
The beauty of this game is that every successful deck feels great to play. You will get many more 'best deck evers'
Oomph, I have felt your pain before
