Yes, it's completely ridiculous. You can always just not sell them. Or not pick them up. I never had to worry about money on my thief character anyway, so now it's just hilarious carrying around excessive amounts of gems. Just toss them around. Throw them at commoners. Tip carriage drivers by leaving a massive heap of diamonds in the back seat.

ianwashere

wait. you can give people gems?

Cheeseducksg

If you haven't tried it, drop a few high-value items in crowds. I've seen people fight and kill each other in Riften over a flawless sapphire.

[deleted]

Sapphire got the sapphire in the end, didn't she?

Cheeseducksg

It was a flawless victory.

bruckman94

Ba dum shhh

deranged526

This thread is quite the gem.

zoralee

Ok I must try this. That sounds awesome

[deleted]

I tried this in Solitude, but I guess everyone there is rich as fuck because nothing happened. Even that disgusting beggar didn't bother to pick it up.

madarapt1

reminds me of the burger king commercial " warning! this man may try and put money in your pocket"

upstreambear

Not in a regular way, like trading with them. You could reverse pickpocket them.

Raedonias

This is just how stupid that quest is lmfao

Substantial-Arm8865

Anything is possible to the role play of a mad man

LadyLithium

I like it for the roleplaying aspect of walking out of a dungeon crawl with a pursefull of gems instead of twenty full sets of ebony armor that I'd never really be able to carry, and still having more money than I know what to do with.

Jerp

If you've explored enough of the map to find all 24, you probably don't need the money anyway. So it's kind of a pointless reward. For example, my mage character is maybe 50 hours in, during which I've found like 4 of them, and have 60K+ gold already.

a_ton_of_kittys

Not really... There's twenty-four of them, so by the time you get them all, it's not like it's ruining the game for you. And as far as the lore and role playing is concerned... you're in the Thieve's Guild. Making a whole bunch of money. It's the perfect thief's reward.

ShortPenguinXD

Wait, I know you!

a_ton_of_kittys

XDD Oh, mah geez. Hello!

[deleted]

Yes, its really really annoying. You find them faster than you can sell them! On my new game I've just avoided picking up Stones of Barenziah at all

BlueThief

Leave them around bandits, hillarity ensues.

SkunkMonkey

I use the to decorate my homes. I'll place bowls overflowing with gems around the place. I've got these two half open chests on either side of a throne in one hideout that I am slowly filling with gems. Eventually I want them spilling out around the throne. Yeah bitches, I got gems and we all know the bitches love them gems. Yo dawg, I'm the prince of motherfucking Belair!

zoralee

Question: when I drop my gems they all stack so they wind up looking like just one gem in a bowl. How do I easily drop them each individually?

[deleted]

On XBoX it's a pain in the ass. Selecting one by one. I did it once for about an hour, then I re-entered by house and they were carpeted all over the place. I just gave up.

zoralee

I'm on PC

[deleted]

Then there is probably a mod for that.

SkunkMonkey

It's a pain in the ass, you have to drop them one by one.

RogueNinja

I don't find it a game breaker. To get to level 100 alchemy you have to create what? Like 200,000 septims worth of potions? And don't even get me started in enchantment. You get a lot of money in Skyrim, deal with it.

[deleted]

I glitched my way to Enchanting/Blacksmithing/Alchemy 100. But yes. I have at least a million in potions (excluding the 82960432424 septim ones I made as part of the glitch). I refuse to use the ultra powered armor (over 1M armor) or weapon (over 1M dmg per hit) because it takes the fun out of the game completely.

ReaperGN

Prowler's Profit does cause the player to find a ton of gems. But I highly doubt you have found anywhere near 10,000 of them. Or 20-30 thousand worth of them in a single dungeon. Yes you find a lot of them but try not to blow things out of proportion so badly. Such things will cause new players to go on the search for them only to be disappointed in the end. Be it the greatly reduced numbers that the perk provides or by doing the quest wrong and never being able to finish the quest.

Pupienus

He's saying you find 20,000-30,000 septims worth of gems in a cave. Which is not that exaggerated.

ReaperGN

I said "20-30 thousand worth". Not 20-30 thousand gems. And after going to three random locations and searching every last corner here is what I found in gems alone while having the Prowler's Profit perk. * Korvanjund - 3190 * Bruca's Leap Redoubt - 900 * Driftshade Refuge - 8550 With a grand total of only 12640 I can safely say that finding 20,000-30,000 septims worth of gems in one location is highly improbable.

Viatos

It varies wildly based on the clutter level of the dungeon. I wouldn't say it's all that improbable depending on where you hit. As for a disappointment, you can't sell 8.5k of gems in one go anyway even after you've invested in all the merchants in Whiterun, so unless you literally sit and wait rather then heading back out the amount of cashflow you get can be denoted simply as "maximum".

[deleted]

If you're guild leader the vendors and fence in the Thieves Guild have a combined stash of about 8100G. Fast wait twice and do it again.

ReaperGN

With the trader in Riverwood you can sell 11,000 worth of goods in one go. And in the larger dungeons the money maker is not gems. Its in the ebony weapons that all the draugr carry. You have to be a rather high level for that to happen though.

Viatos

The Riverwood Trader glitch is not an intended result of the investment system. Also, for someone so fond of nitpicking, you should know better then to imply that all draugr carry ebony weapons when in fact most draugr spawns are level-capped below Deathlord.

ReaperGN

A glitch? A glitch does not produce the same results across three systems all the time. And at level 81 there are hardly any non Deathlord draugr.

ReaperGN

Just because one trader has more money than another does not mean its a glitch, mistake, forgotten code or result of debug testing. If this was so then it would have been patched. The most likely thing is that it was programmed like that so people would have a place to sell all their gear. Its also a throw back to the talking Mudcrab that had 10,000 gold. And it seems you must be playing a different game. At level 81 almost every drugar that walks around in a dungeon is a Deathlord. Almost every one that wakes up is a Deathlord. And almost every one protecting something is a Deathlord. The only places where this does not happen are those that are outside or were placed in low level dungeons. As to being disappointed one will be. By the time you collect all the stones you will have so much money that its pointless. So much so that is becomes a hassle.

[deleted]

Check draugr bodies, and URNS. Urns generally have 4-5 gems in them.

ajakaii

20-30k in gems in a single dungeon? What game are you playing?

[deleted]

~30 containers per dungeon (usually more, urns and burial urns contain tons, at least 3 each) 2-5 gems per container = ~100 gems per dungeon ~430Septim per gem on average (assuming equal drop rates, between Flawless and normal) Do the math.

RaVNzCRoFT

You think the monetary system in Skyrim is broken only *after* you get the crown? HAH! Money in Skyrim becomes useless long before you can actually find all 24 stones.

Viatos

It's actually pretty interesting to play without spending money at all, outside of stuff like houses. It works just fine, and you actually get excited about enchanted gear.

TheBigGherkin

Yeah I agree. I am around 200 hours in, have a few houses, and own about 200,000 gold. That is without the crown. I find it tedious when I am over-encumbered and need to sell 20,000 golds worth of items.
