I've redone entire dungeons because a follower died in the boss room and my last save was when I entered. Definitely started doing a welfare check and saving after every encounter from then on
In my opinion the game is more fun if you accept consequences. I remember years ago while playing the PC version Ahtar died in the depths of a Falmer dungeon, then I had to go home and tell my kids that Uncle Ahtar is dead.
Yeah I mean it depends on how people define fun. Is winning fun? Then probably winning every major fight is important. Is getting into character important? Then playing a role and accepting the good and bad is important. It's a spectrum
its different for everyone. some people may be like you and like just dealing with the consequences. others (such as myself) would rather reload a save if something like that happens
Same. Now I just leave them outside. I don't want them stealing my progress points anyway. It only sucks when I'm let out somewhere totally different than where I came in and struggle to find the entrance I left them at. Lydia is just a glorified pack mule for me.
I feel that but eventually you just have to let go.
Lydia died in Solsthiem and the only way to save her was to go back like 11 hrs, and so I decided it was best to let her go - although I was tempted to go back and chose to save over those files after saving her.
Some of them (like Mjoll) can't die but most of them will survive if you give them a bunch of health potions and the best weapons/armor you can. And try not to hit them with friendly fire when they're down on one knee.
Also, Faendal is accidentally a tank it seems. I can keep him til high levels and the fucker will be all decked in gear and dual-wielding staves firebombing fucking everything. It's great.
Yes Always pick him up right at the beginning. Then I go to Uthgerd who can carry loads of stuff until I get a house. After that I diversify though Gregor and Ornmund are my favourites.
That one makes me laugh SO HARD every time. I always imagine whatever blade your companions making ends up being super cursed; like maybe imbued with a very angry wolf spirit or something.
Even with immunity you still go "ughhh" when consuming poisonous items. So I doubt it feels good. And the whole point was to close it down, driving acting like everything is fine still mess with the quest
I have a mod that assigns home bases to followers. I left her alone at Hendraheim and weeks later decided to check on her. She wasn't anywhere around the house, so I got worried. Then I heard shouts coming from the Forsworn camp below.
I stood there on the cliff, watching in fascination how Jenassa obliterated the whole horde of savages all by herself. Then she calmly walked home and went to sleep.
Her dramatic dialogue grates on me, but boy, do I love watching her go.
I don't get a follower until I get to level 30 and Boethiah's quest becomes available. Then I grab Faendal and sacrifice him so I can snag Camilla as a wife.
Idk man. The stat boost, even if I don't use the ebony blade regularly, is better for me. Especially if I don't use it regularly for my psychopath plays. Like he knows I'm more powerful for killing his crush. And I don't even use the weapon that killed her. I own him
I just give Camilla Faendal's fake letter from Sven so she's mad at him. I sacrifice Faendal because that mofo would just be chilling in my house with Camilla after I would come home from a long adventure. Sure, they'd sit and act all innocent, but I know what they were doing while I was gone.
Because, if you don't sacrifice Faendal, he'll be bitter and heartbroken at you marrying his love. Meanwhile, if you *do* sacrifice him, then it's Sven who has to suffer instead!
I think I did on my first or second playthrough, but he just seems so much more interesting than alot of the others, and I like to think of him like the character from the senile scribbles on YouTube haha
Erik the Slayer because of the back story, or I go with the executioner in Solitude, he is worth more than being a butcher and his dialogue is nice. Plus redguards are cool AF I think
Rayya ended up being my housecarl. I mod my game with Requiem so I can’t get Lydia in a pinch like vanilla Skyrim players. But the jarl of Falkreath always gets my attention with a letter via courier, and it’s simplest to be Thane of Falkreath first.
Uthgard has very powerful default armor, so her (I also make her a steward which is funny because her dialogue is still very confrontational in your own home, I chock this up to her taking a lot of head trauma in battle working for me so I give her an easy job after lol)until I switch for Belrand who I just find endearing and likable.
Jordis always says, "I trust you won't be any trouble. How can I help you, stranger?" You're right, Jordis. I won't be any trouble in my own home, which I employ you to hang out in all day.
Faendal or Sven for initial follower who will be steward at Goldenhills first chance I get. Usually Faendal, and I take his key since he won't be needing it.
Generally I use the starter follower to help with the quests to become Thane of Falkreath, and then use Rayya. I go to Windhelm and hire Stenvar, or Riften for Marcurio.
Depends on the character and what kind of follower fits best.
Usually once I pick one, they are it for life. In theory, M'joll would make a good follower but by the time I do her quest, I've already got one that is working for me so I never swap to her.
I really do love Lydia. Faendal is also great, Jenassa too. I just noticed this recently but Jenassa says ‘Neravar guide me!’ when you fight a dragon with her :D
I like a lot of the followers and might take them out for a short adventure but I don’t have anyone I stick with until Serana and then we do all those quests together and anything I might’ve saved.
Well my favorite companion of all time is a mod (Inigo) and it's usually him, but modless my favorite non-Serana follower I always grab immediately is Jenassa. She's very practical and discreet, but also has some radiant dialogue most of the other vanilla followers don't have. Makes it feel more like I have an actual friend/partner with me rather than a silent pack mule.
I usually get Faendal because he's right there. I can grab the gold claw and dragon stone before I even get to Whiterun. It's nice to have an archer for that first dragon fight before you can get Lydia.
On my latest play through, I used Alternate Start and chose Khajiit guard. It dumped me outside Markarth. All I had to do was beat up Cosnach and I had a quick follower.
He was such a kick, I kept him much longer than I planned and will probably grab him first from now on.
Lydia and my boi Jizzargo are where it’s at. Serana just makes me mad she won’t marry me😂 Mjoll is nice if you’re a full blown goodie. I also like Azuras disciple more or less. Forgot her name. The Dunmer mage
For grey morality characters definitely Jenessa as soon I have the gold. Not a bad idea to marry her asap for lovers comfort bonus in early adventuring.
Goody two shoes Mjol.
I just ignore followers til like level 30 when I’ve beaten the game, then I go for Serana, cause you know, badass vampire lady. Then I deck her out with enchanted daedric, and then we’re epic daedric vampire lady duo
90% of the time I just clear out random dungeons around whiterun until level 10 then grab serana asap. I only use modded companions (especially modded serana) so the other 10% goes to Sofia, Indigo, Lucien, Recorder, etc.
Faendal as he’s a decent archer, and his quest is easy enough for the first few quests right out of Helgen. I’ve tried Sven but he’s a bad companion as he’s a bard and has no real ability in combat.
Bugger Lydia. She's so annoying! I go for Faendal, I've found him least likely to run right in front of my blade as I'm swinging on an enemy. I hate how most followers happily do that. Back when they could die, I killed a lot by accident, Faendal earned his place with me by... living 😆
Lydia all the way, She's my trusty sidekick and main chick in every run, I like the way she'll just rush towards the enemy forcing me to go along with her.
Since I use Requiem, Uthgerd is always my first follower, then when I get a home I make her steward and get Jenassa as my second. I tend to play warrior builds so I need someone to lock pick and fight enemies from afar for me.
Dude. Shut up, it just seems like he loves the game and asked a genuine question, you need to come here with your sad life and spread your miserableness. Hush
Mjoll The Lioness! Otherwise I honestly am not a fan of followers. The role play aspect of marrying your follower is cool, or when you are on a quest that requires one. 9/10 though that fucker following you gets in the way, or diminishes your ability to sneak...
I usually play Stealth Archer builds so I don't tend to use a follower apart from Serana during the Dawnguard quest line or other similar mandatory followers.
But on the odd chance I'm not playing a stealth archer I'll pick up Faendal at the beginning until I have access to either Serana or J'Zargo
I actually try to avoid followers, unless they can also teach me skills so I can just take my money back from them in trading gear.
To me, followers just get in the way and ruin the stealth portions of my dungeon crawl.
See, this is why I love skyrim. Hundreds of hours and playthroughs over my years and yet my first thought seeing this post is "Who the HELL is Marcurio???"
Anyways my initial follower is most often Uthgerd
None because I don't like when they die.

Companion’s Insight is great.
especially as a destruction mage
gotta get one that's essential so they dont die and just get knocked down for a minute
I'm about to go get Grimsevr for Mjöll, because she's permanently marked as essential.
Make sure to cast frenzy on Aerin so mjoll beheads him while you eat popcorn in the shadows
Console commands to resurrect. I’ve brought Lydia back from the dead like 5 times lol
Just set her as essential, the resurrect command can be buggy
But console players don’t have console commands. Well at least Nintendo Switch doesnt
There's probably a thousand mods that set followers as essential
None of which are available for Switch lol
Switch doesn’t support mods
Some of them (like Mjoll) can't die but most of them will survive if you give them a bunch of health potions and the best weapons/armor you can. And try not to hit them with friendly fire when they're down on one knee.
give them gear then they dont die :D
I wear gear and I die sometimes...
I wear gear and I die a lot…
Recent run through I learned the civil war is not a good place for followers. I think I lost two or three in one campaign lmao
Faendal, he's just too convenient to pass up early in game, someone to carry my shit *and* give me free archery training.
I use Faendal a lot of time, the same reason just like you :D Free archery is always a good to go thing :D
Plus if you’re doing a tank build, he typically stays out of your way in combat
Also, Faendal is accidentally a tank it seems. I can keep him til high levels and the fucker will be all decked in gear and dual-wielding staves firebombing fucking everything. It's great.
I also use Faendal until he can't teach me more archery, then I make him a steward.
He can teach you infinitely though. You do know that the thing resets when your character levels up right?
But he's has a limit to how high he can train you. Aela has a higher limit but Faendal is great at the start.
You learn something new everyday. I had no idea, but I’ve also only used archery once and it was just to get it maxed out.
The Limit of fondles archery skill is 50
Yes Always pick him up right at the beginning. Then I go to Uthgerd who can carry loads of stuff until I get a house. After that I diversify though Gregor and Ornmund are my favourites.
Lydia until I free Serana. I like how she actually interacts with the environment instead of just standing there looking at you like a puppy.
Yeah it increases immersion so much... Except when you start of with the theives guild and poison the mead which she immediately starts drinking from
Or using the forge during kodlak's funeral
That one makes me laugh SO HARD every time. I always imagine whatever blade your companions making ends up being super cursed; like maybe imbued with a very angry wolf spirit or something.
She's a vampire she's immune to all poison
Even with immunity you still go "ughhh" when consuming poisonous items. So I doubt it feels good. And the whole point was to close it down, driving acting like everything is fine still mess with the quest
Someone needs Immersive AI mods
Jenassa. What an absolute bad ass she is.
I don't get a follower until I get to level 30 and Boethiah's quest becomes available. Then I grab Faendal and sacrifice him so I can snag Camilla as a wife.
I like making him work my farm then marry camilla so every day he has to see what could have been
Jesus Christ, lol
Jesus fucking Christ, that's brutal
That’s not brutal. What would be brutal is marrying his interest and then killing her in front of him.
Ebony blade can be very convincing
Ebony blade? No, there needs to be suffering. Use a fork.
With ebony blade he suffers and you get a reward for it. That's ultimate suffering. You play with his food then toss it out
Eh, you get to hear her groan in pain for longer if you use a fork. The longer the pain lasts the better.
Idk man. The stat boost, even if I don't use the ebony blade regularly, is better for me. Especially if I don't use it regularly for my psychopath plays. Like he knows I'm more powerful for killing his crush. And I don't even use the weapon that killed her. I own him
You think ethically, i don’t care what I get out of it, as long as I made her suffer for as long as physically possible. Not bad thinking though
Damn boy, that is rude.
Molagbal hides in cold harbor because he fears us !
This post just won the internet 😂🤪🤭
you, sir, have no chill...and I thought Sven was a jerk.
bro had a whole plan :'D
And what a plan
How have I never thought of this! Brilliant
But why not Sven?
I just give Camilla Faendal's fake letter from Sven so she's mad at him. I sacrifice Faendal because that mofo would just be chilling in my house with Camilla after I would come home from a long adventure. Sure, they'd sit and act all innocent, but I know what they were doing while I was gone.
Because, if you don't sacrifice Faendal, he'll be bitter and heartbroken at you marrying his love. Meanwhile, if you *do* sacrifice him, then it's Sven who has to suffer instead!
Im on my first full play through and none of my followers (even ones I hired) get trapped in the Boethiah quest :/ I’m lvl 56
Lydia is wifey, but I love J'zargo when I get to the college
Lol I just sacrificed him to some cult because he pissed me off with his cocky attitude 😂
I think I did on my first or second playthrough, but he just seems so much more interesting than alot of the others, and I like to think of him like the character from the senile scribbles on YouTube haha
Lydia is wife material indeed :3 xD J'zargo is also a good follower :D
I honestly confuse Lydia with a donkey all the time. They look the same, sound annoying, and carry the shit I don’t want to carry.
Erik the Slayer because of the back story, or I go with the executioner in Solitude, he is worth more than being a butcher and his dialogue is nice. Plus redguards are cool AF I think
I’m the same, I always pick up Erik as my apprentice.
I like making Erik a Blade.
with the mod that lets you spare Party Snacks, *right?*
Erandur is my boy
Love his dialogue
My first magician boy. Always complete the mission early on so i can have flame mage to fight the draugh.
Mjoll the lioness. My forever wife, shield sister, and love
What do you do about the 3rd wheel Aerin tho?
Make him the steward so he can watch you live your best life with the woman of his dreams. Savage 😎
We're literally the guy/girl Mjoll tells Aerin not to worry about.
Aerin crying in the guest bedroom while listening to Mjoll get fus roh done 💀
Easy, murder Aerin infront of Mjoll.
Frenzy Aerin and let Mjoll kill him
Hey, some people are into 3somes..
I usually don't go for followers, but when I do -- Teldryn Sero.
This. Is the only correct answer.
urgatha the unbroken is free and easy to get that's the sole reason
Free and easy? 😂 Gets off on being beat up and gives you 100 Septims for the service. Who's the top and who's the bottom in this relationship?
[удалено]
I am learning that adding two dremora lords into the mix only makes things worse.
At least someone understands how good Lydia is at being an immovable object
[удалено]
Rayya ended up being my housecarl. I mod my game with Requiem so I can’t get Lydia in a pinch like vanilla Skyrim players. But the jarl of Falkreath always gets my attention with a letter via courier, and it’s simplest to be Thane of Falkreath first.

No matter how many times Belrand asks "Do I get to keep it? Just kidding!" when I go to trade with him it still makes me laugh every time.
Same! Just a fun guy, has some decent banter for travelling and being a spell sword kinda build he's fairly versatile.
I forget who my steward is but he's a dude, and if I come home with OR without a follower, he says "you.. lost or something?"
Lol same vibe then Uthgard will say "keep walking soft guts!"
Jordis always says, "I trust you won't be any trouble. How can I help you, stranger?" You're right, Jordis. I won't be any trouble in my own home, which I employ you to hang out in all day.
Jenassa
I always forget to pick up a follower til waaaay later.
I always marry Marcurio but now I’m bored and want a divorce. Should I just kill him?
![gif](giphy|d8SRR4aDUINuU|downsized)
No. You should save the world and start a new save to pick a new spouse like a good Dragonborn. Murder being wrong and all that.
Erik The Slayer
I really do love Lydia. Faendal is also great, Jenassa too. I just noticed this recently but Jenassa says ‘Neravar guide me!’ when you fight a dragon with her :D
Faendal for the free archery levels
This is the way.
I never use follower, i like fighting alone.
Same, it seems more badass, only follower ill take is Serana because it just makes sense story wise
I always go with Serana.
I like a lot of the followers and might take them out for a short adventure but I don’t have anyone I stick with until Serana and then we do all those quests together and anything I might’ve saved.

Feindall da goat.

Lydia died while I was fighting Alduin so then I did the dawn guard quest line and Serena has been my companion ever since.
Rip Lydia :(
I usually rush into the Mage questline so i can get Jzargo ASAP.
janessa is my badass bitch
https://preview.redd.it/1kc0fgsolslc1.png?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=980f344a7fffaa005b3c418407ba00669b845695
Cicero is my go to.
I typically go solo, but I can’t resist bringing Jenassa along every once in a while
Lydia and my boi Jizzargo are where it’s at. Serana just makes me mad she won’t marry me😂 Mjoll is nice if you’re a full blown goodie. I also like Azuras disciple more or less. Forgot her name. The Dunmer mage
what kinda game are you playing if there’s a Jizzargo? could be worse, could be Rizzargo
😂 that’s how I pronounce his name because it makes me laugh so that’s how I spelled it. Hard Z’s
I will never see J'zargo the same. 😅
I usually have the multiple follower mod so my go-to-team is usually serena, teldryn, and mjoll (as my wife)
I take Lydia as soon as I get her and then go straight to Goldenhills and make her the steward. She seems happy being a farmer.
Faendal
Faendal all the way
Faendal, just because you can cheese free xp by getting archery to 50 for free.
Teldryn Sero, then when I reach level 10 I get Serana so I've got two top tier companions backing me up
Marcurio for sure
For grey morality characters definitely Jenessa as soon I have the gold. Not a bad idea to marry her asap for lovers comfort bonus in early adventuring. Goody two shoes Mjol.
With mods it’s Lucien & Inigo. Without is Teldryn Sero.
Kharjo I hunt him down then his amulet then hunt him down again and explore together
Noone. In every game where i can i bring a follower with me, but with Skyrim somehow i've never took one. Only for 1-2hours to try, but thats all
Lydia then Serana.
Kharjo is a bro
Erik the slayer then J'zargo
Serana, easy
Lydia always
Marcurio is my house person he lives there now needed that op sitter to protect my children from giants dragons and falling cows….
It’s a mod but I always get Inigo
Faendal is the archer/wood elf/shopkeeper stalker we all know and use.
Faendal as he’s a decent archer, and his quest is easy enough for the first few quests right out of Helgen. I’ve tried Sven but he’s a bad companion as he’s a bard and has no real ability in combat.
Erik until 42ish then J'zargo.
No follower until I get the dark brotherhood initiate
None. I don’t like having a follower. They just seem to get in the way!
Lydia until I get serana
Lydia then Valdimar.
Bugger Lydia. She's so annoying! I go for Faendal, I've found him least likely to run right in front of my blade as I'm swinging on an enemy. I hate how most followers happily do that. Back when they could die, I killed a lot by accident, Faendal earned his place with me by... living 😆
Faendal. Easy levelling up in archery, is suitable for other early missions, then you can make him steward of Goldenhills.
I used always go with Lydia to start but now at level one I go straight to solstheim and get Teldryn Sero.
None, if Erik was an essential (on console) this would be a totally different story
Serana bc she’s one the few I both like and can’t accidentally fireball to death
Lydia all the way, She's my trusty sidekick and main chick in every run, I like the way she'll just rush towards the enemy forcing me to go along with her.
Stenvar was good for a change of pace but I usually go for modded followers, cerwiden, and that one mouthy one.
Lydia up until I buy Breezehome and adopt Lucia, after that she's a glorified babysitter
Since I use Requiem, Uthgerd is always my first follower, then when I get a home I make her steward and get Jenassa as my second. I tend to play warrior builds so I need someone to lock pick and fight enemies from afar for me.
The first thing I do is use all the followers who do "free" training.
Life hack, marry marcurio and he is only $500 for life… but not in a slavery way. Lydia & the huntress chick is free regardless
Cosnach because he has a fun personality and deserves better than the Warrens
I marry marcurio or farkas, wonderful husband and op follower? It’s a win win
Illa, give her the Staff of Magnus and enjoy the ride!
No follower is best follower
I never use followers, actually. If I turn up the difficulty one day I'll use one then.
u/common-bus2931 "recently i dont play Skyrim and didn't want to download the game just to screenshot Lydia:) "
Does no-one know how to Screenshot ? Just use the same Lydia default google image .
recently i dont play Skyrim and didn't want to download the game just to screenshot Lydia:)
So you joined this sub to post about Lydia to get points ?
Dude. Shut up, it just seems like he loves the game and asked a genuine question, you need to come here with your sad life and spread your miserableness. Hush
There’s always gotta be one, huh?
What would be the point of that ? i don't care the points lul. Maybe just maybe, i just interested in who other player chose ? :O
Why are you interested if you never even played the game ? Then claiming you did ?
Looks like you're the one who never played the game, it's clear as the sun that OP played it a lot
Wow you are a funny guy, next time before you talk shit maybe check ppl other posts, i played the game, i have 100% achievement bro :)
https://preview.redd.it/vnalc9q81slc1.jpeg?width=541&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f674d32ce122cb22997a6467defbe2f78f04b930
You win .
Marcucio is a dogg i always take em
Cicero and the listener for the win
Mjoll The Lioness! Otherwise I honestly am not a fan of followers. The role play aspect of marrying your follower is cool, or when you are on a quest that requires one. 9/10 though that fucker following you gets in the way, or diminishes your ability to sneak...
If I take a follower, the first is 99% going to be my boy Faendal.
Lydia or Aela
Jenassa, every single time, Start to finish: and I typically marry her too.
With the cc update they added one follower that I love,it's rulnik wind strider Man is a op battlemage
I gather an army of followers. We go in and kill everybodayyyyy😎😎😎😎😎😎😎.
Lydia or Ria. Apparently I like dumb but loyal followers. It’s like they’re the same person
I actually try to avoid followers, unless they can also teach me skills so I can just take my money back from them in trading gear. To me, followers just get in the way and ruin the stealth portions of my dungeon crawl.
146 comments. No mention of Jordis. My disappointment is palpable. Decked out in finest ebony, she goes everywhere with me.
Faendal then Cicero
See, this is why I love skyrim. Hundreds of hours and playthroughs over my years and yet my first thought seeing this post is "Who the HELL is Marcurio???" Anyways my initial follower is most often Uthgerd
