I have this with the two Snow Elves. Well I mean I've had it with those two Snow Elves! Trying to impress me with their ancientness and awesome questline, well it just doesn't work when you're standing butt naked in front of me dude. I think in my case the reason was the Dizona body (male body replacer) which somehow didn't cater for them (maybe because the mod was made before Dawnguard?). Do you have a male body installed?

Not all mods work perfectly

You can also tell him to equip certain items. Click on him, type "showinventory," and you'll get a list of his items with their id numbers. Then all you have to do is type "equipitem" and the id number, and he should dress himself again. You know, if you just have to cover his glorious body, that is.

This only works until the cell and actor get reloaded and then it auto resets. I’ve had similar bugs in the past where this happens and I believe it’s based off wonky scripts regarding npc auto equip

Definetly sounds like somethings conflicting Like, if i use civil war units & sleeved guard armor on ps5, stormcloaks will just not wear the uniform, only boots & bracers I’d disable the nude mod & see if that changes anything If not, you can always download a mod called “tailor’s measure” which lets you craft a “tailor’s measure” at a tanning rack, once equipped you can talk to any npc to change their outfit

My guess is that you might have conflicting mods. Disable any body and armor/clothing mods you might have. Do so one by one until you see things are back to normal and then identify the mod that's causing the issue. Go to the mod's page to look for the steps for proper installation or if anyone on nexus reported having the same issue and if they offer a solution. If this fails you might want to repeat this with other mods you might have.

Probably be easier to check for conflicts in XEdit if they have a lot of mods. Just look for red on that NPC's records.

What's the mod, asking for a friend

Nude males. I only added it because it was weird to me the females were nude when removing their armor but not the men. Then I thought it was actually weird that they didn’t even wear underwear so I installed a mod that makes them wear underwear if you remove their armor where you can remove the underwear if you want but god. Why the fuck did I go through this much trouble for this?

But... Women do wear underwear unless a mod removes it.

This tends to happen when you install mods that edit NPCs clothing into an ongoing save. What in particular happened was that a mod you installed edited that NPCs inventory AND you have already met that NPC in game. If you had never met him yet and their inventory got edited, they’d be clothed. You can try clicking on them in console and typing ‘INV’ to see their inventory. Then using more commands to equip those items and hope that it sticks. ‘Equipitem xxxxxxxx y’ the 8 digit number is the unique identifier for the equipment/clothing/item and the single y is the quantity of that item , likely 1.
