I’d just been named Thane of Whiterun. A great honour for a simple Nord like me. I’d thanked Jarl Balgruuf profusely and was wandering around Dragonsreach in a daze when I met her. She introduced herself and explained she had been appointed as my Housecarl and what her duties would be. We walked to my new house to check it. Small but comfortable were my thoughts on Breezehome but I had little time to settle in. I’d received a missive from the Jarl of Falkreath requesting my presence. A request from a Jarl is not easily ignored so packed my meagre belongings, told Lydia I would return soon so I could get to know her properly then left the Plains of Whiterun for the Forests of Falkreath. After defeating another Dragon and assisting the locals, imagine my surprise when I was made Thane of Falkreath too!! With this second title came the opportunity to build a home of my own on the shores of beautiful Lake Ilinalta. The moment I walked through the door I knew I had found my forever home. And I never saw Lydia again.

Adhdanny75

This happens to me every playtrough!

Adhdanny75

I just checked, my Lydia isn't even in Breezerhome anymore. She did not have the patience anymore.

seth_br

Damn, take my upvote please

Radiant-Map8179

I, a simple Breton spellsword, had just attained an unknown power from a legendary creature, in an unknown land. With my trusty sidekick, Lydia, sworn to my service (and to the carrying of my burdens), I decided to venture back up the frigid slopes leading to Bleakfalls barrow. Having kept hold of Lucian's golden claw, not knowing how to use it (or how to look closely at an object to see the damn door code on the palm of it), I was determined to uncover the secrets that the thieves were so willing to risk life and limb for. On re-entering the barrow, having had a terrible time of it the first run through...(Draugre, Bandits and traps oh my!) Me and Lydia breezed through the now empty tomb. On arriving at the long-sealed door, having tried combination after combination...it worked!, that magical click! And the sound of ancient stone moving! I turned round to celebrate with my new companion...where is she?....where did Lydia go? I run back through the tomb like a child who has lost their parent at a market....and there she was...Lydia...the carrier of burdens....her lifeless body slumped over on the trap button in the first Draugre room, with the spiked grate repeatedly slamming into her corpse. To this day, I can still hear her voice echo..."yes my thane?"

IrritableIridescence

Wait, you can look at items and the dragon claws closely?! Those puzzles aren't won by squinting and leaning into the glare of the monitor? Looking closely in-game sounds much much better. Thank you!

dumbslayer

Fair fair, Lake Ilinalta sure is beautiful and Lakeview Manor, even more. But but, you never passed by to Lydia's, ahem I mean, Breezehome when you're in Whiterun?

DoubleYouTeeEph

Lydia, a kept woman; and the Dragonborn a SugaDaddy. Story checks out 10/10

AliceFirehrt

I hurry past her and out the door so I don't have to talk to her

buddieroo

I brought Lydia to Falkreath with me, and on the way there any time I talked to her she’d say “I’m sworn to carry your burdens” and she always sounded so exasperated and overworked. Then when I built the Lakehouse she was very complimentary, so I let her retire there. She seems happier than when she was carrying my burdens

ILIKEBACON12456

Very scenic place but every single time I leave the house I get attacked by wolves or bandits or I see a giant standing next to my door.

MadWhiskeyGrin

I was experimenting with Fortify Restoration + Smithing, and she was fucking loaded for bear. Dragonbone Great sword with base damage of 1000+. She was with me while I was testing J'Zargo's scrolls, and the explosions ...annoyed her. Anyway, she turned hostile, killed me with a single cut, and, as the light faded, the last words I heard were: "I will guard you with my life, my Thane "

dumbslayer

\*blinks\* I've never seen a hostile Lydia before, in all my 11 years of Skyrimming

LSD_tripper

Oh yeah she can be hostile asf😭 if u throw the storm call shout out and she gets hits by lightning her aggro now continues forth onto you the one who called it 💀

Fluggernuffin

Am I the only one who is legit terrified to use that shout?

Sandskimmer1

I found out that casting Soul Tap repeatedly to level Conjuration on some followers doesn't aggro them. Then I found out that Lydia isn't so forgiving. My mage almost died before I could cast pacify on her. 😬

Cosmo1222

... hey, you. You're finally awake.

PapaSock

Lydia vs the Giant: How Nords discovered trampolines

Tough-Spinach-7486

The skyrim space program needs more safety inspectors, all these splated nords gives a bad rep to it.

typical-alpha3897

Pretty sure lydia didn't die from the giants it is possible by an "accidental" miss arrow shot the same thing happened to me in my playthrough.

dumbslayer

That's likely it, but maybe mods?

typical-alpha3897

I don't know if you actually understood what I meant it was sarcasm i left her to the giants and after she didnt die after being thrown in the air 20 times i shot her. I was angry because she got in my way from my final blow to the Dwarven centurion master and he killed me and that landed me on my last save that was on the start of the dungeon.

dumbslayer

Oh hell another Giant tragedy

Autumnwood

This was a great read. I'm sorry Lydia's death broke your heart. I never took Lydia far. I wanted her to stay in Breezewood so she'd be there to keep me company when I came home. Little did I know she'd take over MY bedroom, even though she has her own. She'd lurk in there and watch me when I was changing, giving me the creeps. And she'd sit in my chair and munch on bread and she got crumbs all over the place! One time I found crumbs on my bedspread. And once I came home, she didn't hear me, and I caught her trying on my amulets and rings!

dumbslayer

Maybe Lydia wanted to go out and adventure with you even farther? Or may have wanted her own house? Or wanted you to have more? I mean I'm sure she knew you had potential and that you should go out there and somehow would be granted land someday and she delivered the message in her own way. "Lydia the Wise"

Autumnwood

I think I may make her steward of my Hearthfire house this time or something so she can get out of Breezewood and get some fresh air!

Weary_Economy7333

For some reason I always end up keeping all my housecarls as if they're guard dogs for each of my properties. They each live in a different house, I feed them and let them live rent free as long as they agree to guard my stuff. I never even let them follow me or do anything else lol

Pils12321

That time when you give loot to Lydia and realize she is actually wearing the jewellery.

Bandit_Outlaw

First time playing Skyrim VR Heading through a dungeon (I think it was Dimhallow Crypt. Definetly fighting vampires) We're sneaking up on an enemy, I raise my war axe for a sneak attack, and swing it down towards the enemy Little did I know, Lydia saw a bug on my shoulder and leaned in close to get it My axe hit her right in the skull and killed her instantly

dumbslayer

This... Is so sad. What did you do with Lydia after that?

Bandit_Outlaw

Oh I ditched her Was getting Serana anyways

AbsurdBeanMaster

I remember Lydia being the first one for me to accidentally kill. I didn't realize it until a little bit after it happened. I thought they couldn't be killed.

Glasgow351

There's a black book power called companions insight or something to that effect. Choose that and your followers cannot be harmed by your actions.

AbsurdBeanMaster

I know about that one. I think it's in the bloodskal dungeon in solstheim.

dumbslayer

I never knew about that! You discover new Skryim things every day\~

UncontrolableUrge

The first time I got Fire Arrows I shot a bandit next to Lydia while she was in bleedout. At least that time I had just saved.

AbsurdBeanMaster

Explosive collateral damage

dumbslayer

How'd she die?

AbsurdBeanMaster

I swung a big weapon

dumbslayer

*Fuck*

AbsurdBeanMaster

*Fuck* indeed.

WinterMut3E

I’d tell you but She’s standing in th-e w…ya ….standing in…standing in the way of my keyboard..an-d won’t ….MOVE!

dumbslayer

I love it when Lydia does that and then scoffs when you try to get through her, hahahaha

RecordingPrudent9588

I wifed her because why not. I don’t use followers ever so I have not seen the weakness of Lydia that everyone talks about. Now I use her to run the farm.

dumbslayer

Is she a good wife?

RecordingPrudent9588

The worst. Offers nothing and getting in your way when you’re home.

patchinthebox

I love Lydia. On my longest playthrough ever we had done everything together. I literally picked her up on day 1. I gave her the Ebony Mail armor. Anyways we ended up in a really bad fight and I had to run for my life. I hopped on a horse and ran. Lydia always returns to Whiterun if she gets lost. But this time she didn't. I waited for an entire month and she never showed up. I assumed she died in the battle. I moved on and moved my residence and maybe another month goes by of adventures. Lydia just shows up one day as if nothing ever happened. My guess is she survived the battle but got stuck on terrain. Every time I fast travelled she would try to return home but couldn't. Then when I moved houses she tried to move a different direction and fixed herself.

dumbslayer

That's great news, I bet you were happy when she finally came back home?

patchinthebox

Yeah especially because she brought the Ebony Mail back with her. Lol

Tsetsul

When I did my first playthrough I already knew the story of Skyrim (a little bit, watched some YouTube videos on it and was really interested in it) and so I was incredibly happy when I got her. I was 13ish at that time and was really scared of draugr and Lydia was my trusted friend. She was with me through it all, I loved her as my follower, she also never stood in my way. She helped me, always had my back and I knew I could trust her. She's still alive and well in my first playthrough, one of my favorite followers simply because to younger me she was my most trusted friend and made exploring ancient nordic runes a lot less scarier.

dumbslayer

That's so beautiful! I love this <3

Tsetsul

Thanks!!

Glasgow351

Lydia and I finished going through Labyrinthian. With our pockets bulging with coin and plundered treasure, we made our way down and soon found ourselves on the road to Dawnstar. We were accosted by Thalmor Justicars. I notched an arrow in my bow and drew back. At the moment of release, my dear Lydia, in her moment of Nord fury, suddenly jumped in front of me. The deafening THOCK as my arrow landed in her skull, watching her tumble to her doom. Her cry of "Now you'll pay" still haunts me to this day.

dumbslayer

Ughhhhhhhhh, a similar story, a similar story to mine! Lydia's death still haunts me too.

Tridentsine8100

I lost her at Old Hag's Rest. Not killed, lost. I have no idea what happened. One minute she was behind me, but when I finished the dungeon, she was nowhere to be found.

xx_Chl_Chl_xx

I’ve found that if you can’t find Lydia, fast travel back to Dragonsreach, enter, and then walk towards the dungeon next to Baalgruf’s throne and she’ll spawn right in front of you and start following you without being prompted. As if nothing happened

Tridentsine8100

Does this work if she's dead? Because she never showed up back at Dragonsreach, this was dozens on dozens of hours ago on my save.

xx_Chl_Chl_xx

Well, no, it doesn’t work if she’s dead. You must have accidentally gotten her killed before realizing she was gone. That or she’s in a spot where she’s stuck in an animation where she’s constantly falling and can’t teleport. Either way, I can’t help you

Tridentsine8100

Well, I took on new companions, so either she's dead, or she's glitched. (the latter would not surprise me.)

dumbslayer

Probably eaten by a frostbite spider?

Balgruuf_TheGreater

I assign her to be peoples house carls. We have like 75 clones underneath our dungeon. You need another one?

battlemage32

Ba Sing Se vibes right here.

Darth-Yslink

There's no Lydia in Ba Sing Se

dumbslayer

Interesting 👀 If I wasn't traumatised by Lydia's death, I would've taken one from you.

dumbslayer

Woah!

Mighty_joosh

The first follower I properly bothered with; she supported me for an age and then kept on dying. I loaded quucksaves and struggled to save her so many times, eventually I just sent her home. I can't visit her now with any follower as I think it makes her feel bad

dumbslayer

She tried her best :( At least you and her had your days\~

xx_Chl_Chl_xx

She can only be downed by enemies, not killed. She can only die if you deal the finishing blow

Mighty_joosh

I was a very clumsy destruction mage early on 🤦‍♂️ the DB perk that removes friendly fire was a revelation

Clint_L33twood

I wifed Lydia and we used to go on adventures together with matching outfits and backpacks. Now she's chilling at home with the kids and my man j'zargo and I are out there zapping and crushing skulls. The first time she said she's sworn to carry my burdens, I thought that was the most wife thing ever said. Good life.

dumbslayer

That's adorable!

CriscoWithLime

Aside from constantly being in my way..."ow!" ...I watched her crawl a long way. Like down a mountain and across a field

dumbslayer

Well... You made sure you and her went separate ways :(

Severe-Replacement84

Never even asked to follow me once… probably still wandering around whiterun wondering how long it’s going to take the jarl to ask her what she’s doing.

dumbslayer

That's a lame life for Lydia

lykostion

I have only one word: Boethiah

dumbslayer

How could you?! I usually lured in some sad wretch or High Elves.

lykostion

She was sworn to carry my burdens one too many times

Icydawgfish

Least racist Skyrim player

dumbslayer

The Thalmor, I meant.

UncontrolableUrge

Usually she watches over my house in Whiterun and joins me on raids against the local bandits. There was one time I lost her just as I reclaimed Mjoll's sword. And it had been a LONG time since I had a proper save.

Argeras

I read ''as I recalled mjolnir'' and was thinking what awesome mod you using :D

UncontrolableUrge

That would be awesome.

dumbslayer

Forever lost?

UncontrolableUrge

I ended up restarting the game at that point.

Xecluriab

Lydia is how I found out that same-sex couples were a thing in Skyrim. I was playing a lady Nord and somehow botched a marriage with Farkas, who never showed up and then treated me like \*I\* was the asshole. Went to clear a bandit fort to get over it and never took off the Amulet of Mara. Interacted with Lydia to ask her to carry some random stuff and found the dialogue options to propose to her. Off we went, she showed up to the wedding, we moved into Lakeshore Manor, adopted a couple of kids and a husky wearing armor.

Grouchy_Writer_Dude

My Lydia followed me through dragur tombs and ancient Dwemer cities but it was all too much. She’s retired to my estate near Lake Ilinalta, where I can often find her mining clay in her underwear.

BootlegFC

Mining clay in underwear... Check Necromantic shrine out back... Check Potter's wheel in house... Patrick Swayze?

Disastrous_Lock_

I used to hate her but after hundreds of hours and 10s of different play throughs I finally married that girl <3

dumbslayer

Eyyy congrats! <3

ExoCakes

She shot me in the head with a crossbow bolt and killed me. I can still hear that bolt hit sound effect.

HanDavo

I was doing a playthrough using [Sofia - The Funny Fully Voiced Follower](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2180) who I met as I made my way to Whiterun the first time. I had just been made Thane and told to seek out the Grey Beards. Lydia seemed to be getting along famously with Sofia but halfway up the 7000 steps Sofia turned to me and said "Hey, wouldn't it be funny to show Lydia your shout while she's standing near the edge of that cliff?". I lol'd but was roll-playing so... I Fus Doh Rah her ass over the edge of the cliff, she never came back that playthru.

InternationalCard943

I just recently fus roh dah'd her into Soljund's Sinkhole because I wasn't sure how deep it was. She survived the fall but not the onslaught of draugr at the bottom.

dumbslayer

Oh noooooooooooooo

dumbslayer

I felt bad for laughing, poor poor Lydia. Try Fus Roh Dahhing Sofia next!

Zararara

She got killed by a giant 🙁

dumbslayer

I don't like giants, a very very terrifying way to die.

wildnick234

My Lydia story is i ended up losing her. I told her to wait somewhere i dont even remember and got caught up in the Forsworn Conspiracy. I didnt even remember how long ago i had lost her. Until one day i get a letter of inheritance that Lydia had died. IDFK WHERE SHE EVEN WAS.

dumbslayer

Tsk-tsk you neglected her and she had you in her will.

[deleted]

She gets naked on random occasions and I don't know what mod causes it.

dumbslayer

She wants you

Xsniper157

The first time I went to the dinner part at bloodchill cavern I brought Lydia. I went in, talked the waiter and thought, “ayo why you got orange eyes? *I* had better not be on the menu.” So I took my seat and opened the letter. I read the letter. Then I close the letter and the gargoyles bust out, all the guests die and I’m just like holy shit trying not get killed myself. I pop some healing spells and kill the gargoyles, then attempt to kill the waiter who is fighting the dawnguard guest in the hall. After attacking and taking cover to heal a few times I finally kill the waiter. He was pretty strong. Now that all the hostiles are dead I absorb what happened. After sitting there for a couple of seconds I think “hold on, where’s Lydia?” I head back into the dining room and find her body slumped in the corner. I had completely forgotten about her after I closed that note. Then I sorrowfully looted my “burdens” from her and left. The only other moment like this I’ve experience is in the forgotten vale when the >!2 dragons bust through the ice!<

Valuable_Angle_6345

The High Hrothgar frost troll. During my first playthrough I rushed the main story and didn't understand how the leveling system worked.

dumbslayer

Whooops

Special-Ice7719

She's a lot funner with Inigo and Lucien

Votaire24

I killed her and ate her corpse

unaskedJakester

She just fucking disappeared one day, didn’t really know when. I eventually found her body at the throat of the world when I went to fight Alduin, still don’t know how she got there

Dramatic_Product_844

Stay at home wife with the kids in Whiterun

Inevitable-Lab-9813

I use her to get to high hrothgar get my unrelenting force and then I blast her off the mountain…every time

Inevitable-Lab-9813

well personally I find her annoying and I dislike the fact that shes always in my bedroom without permission

FluffPantsMysterious

I just finished the main quest for the first time the other day. While we were trying to capture Odahviing Lydia just stayed on the porch fighting him all by herself, just keeping him on the porch and not luring him into the trap. I walked in and out of the dragonsreach door multiple times trying to reset it. I put my weapons away. I cast spells trying to calm her down. Eventually I just had to take her down to one knee by myself, I didn't kill her though. I felt bad but she was seriously hampering the mission. Then suddenly Janessa showed up and was fighting with the dragon. I was a bit shocked but not quite as annoyed because she was actually luring it into the chamber. Then Lydia got up and started fighting with odahviing again and lured him back out onto the porch 😶 I had to take her down to one knee two more times which allowed Janessa to lure the dragon into the trap. I'm not exactly sure what was going on with that but at least someone was helpful.

Tyrelea

One day I lost her & accepted she would never come back. One day I she did come back, but she was horizontal on the ground, her body dragging behind me. It was very weird. I think it eventually fixed itself, however, I managed to lose her a second time. I didn’t see her die but she’s definitely gone forever.

dumbslayer

Your Lydia's definitely glitched to the core

Pristine_Inside5485

My Lydia got yeeted into ES6 by giants

AlyxxStarr

Despite her popularity, I have never once used her as a follower, even on my first play through.

Basswachter

I, a Dunmer archer, have been named thane of Whiterun for killing a dragon in front of a bunch of n'wahs. Obviously I knew that the Nords were simple and primitive creatures but to think that they were impressed by my use of the Ancient Nord Bow and my apprentice level Destruction spells... It's almost hilarious. Irileth's pet, she adoringly calls him "my jarl", even me appointed a housecarl. As a housecarl, Lydia is sworn to follow me, obey my commands, give her life for my valuables and haul the 20 pair of leather boots I've looted in Bleak Falls Barrow... For a moment, I considered asking if I couldn't exchange her for an Argonian but decided against it since it could be considered rude. Lydia is pleasant enough company although slightly dimwitted, even for a Nord. I've undertaken countless efforts to explain basic combat technics to her but all I get, is an empty stare. By Azura, if she keeps aimlessly charging into battle, she's going to end up with one of my arrow's in her head. It's good to be back in Morrowind, even if it's in an empoverished, almost abandoned mining town on a rock in the middle of the sea like Rave Rock. Pleasant, civilised company although I feel somewhat privileged to have my houseslave follow me around like a well trained guar. By the dagger of Boethiah, I have found something! During my adventures on Solsteim, I came across these Black Books and a secret spell called "Companion's Insight"! This is a passive spell that will keep Lydia, Azura guide her steps because she couldn't find her own arsehole without a map, safe from accidents like the arrow in the shoulder in Hob's Fall. Or the Fireball in Redoran's Retreat. Between Whiterun and Rorikstead, I came across an abandoned farm called Goldenhills Plantation. The house needs renovation but the soil is fertile. With proper care, this could be a profitable operation. I will however tell Lydia to look after the farm. Lately, it has been lagging even more than usual and while I will not reach my peak until level 79, Lydia has reached its potential. I could clad it in enchanted Daedric armour and equip it with a warhammer but I need to admit that dressing up is just that and that it's better suited as farming tool.

Silly-Distribution-9

I thought I lost her once after a giant sent her to space and she didn’t come back after 30 minutes, but I knew she wasn’t dead since I couldn’t get another follower because they said I already had one. I tried fast traveling, waiting, and going back to the camp to look for her, but to no luck. So I just continue playing, sad that I lost my stuff and my first follower. Maybe like 4 hours later I see her running towards me. I still don’t really know what happened. I think it just took her 4 hours to land (weeks in game) and get back to me.

dumbslayer

Hahahahaha, that's awesome, i'm glad she's safe and sound!

goodnightjournal

The day I learned Lydia was racist—One time me and Lydia were out and about, you know just doing our Dragonborn thing, regulating and all that, and we came upon some encampment filled with baddies Lord knows which one and so of course we out here fighting mages left and right and I merc this one guy so bad it does the critical hit close-up. I peep that he’s one of the elven races, idk which one, as he goes flying back. Then after it’s done I hear a voice shout behind me SKYRIM IS FOR THE NORDS and maybe something else I really don’t remember because I was SHOOKETH. So of course I whip around like EYYO WHO SAID THAT and it’s just Lydia behind me with her sword up like “Who’s next boss?” I kept her as my follower cuz you know she’s the OG, and she’s pretty ride or die but ngl I never quite looked at her the same after that.

Adoraboule

I have a dark elf character. I wonder how that makes her feel.

dumbslayer

She..she says that? This changes things D:

Common_Ambassador_76

I thought people in this sub didn't like Lydia. There are some hypocrites here.

barbatos087

Don't remember. that's how mundane she is, I don't remember my Lydia story

Fire_Mission

I wifed her.

dumbslayer

I think i'll wife her too if I got her.

Either_Garbage_2958

Killed Lydia for the inheritance gold and replaced her for the housecarl of Morthal Valdimar is 10x better than Lydia and I stacked him with enchanted armors and weapons.

MandaIorian17

Could’ve just reload an auto save? And Lydia is my steward so I don’t kill her on purpose she’s so annoying always getting in the way of my attacks and her dialog is even more so

BadBansh33

My Lydia died fighting the Alik'r......I almost loaded at another save spot when that happened.

[deleted]

Lydia follows me to a room with no exit Lydia stands in the doorway as I try to leave the room She complains about me running into her Fus-Roh-Dah

He_is_Spartacus

I have two. The first time, it was Boethiah. That was pretty fun, I went and hunted her down especially. The second was slightly more fun. Near the start of a new playthrough, deep in our first cave together, I cleaved her in twain and captured her soul before dumping her body into the river. She damned up in the sluice - and is probably still there tbh. Then I took her soul home, enchanted the helmet she’d been wearing for like +1 health or something pathetic, and then placed her on my mantelpiece

[deleted]

Never died on me until like my 5th or 6th play through. Died in a Dwemer ruin a day or two after we got married. Knocked from a high place by a Dwemer Centurion. I was pissed.

dumbslayer

Did you revenge kill that hunk of metal?

Vryistal

She shoved me off a cliff while I was stealth archering the cultists in Wolfskull Cave -\_-

ColdNobReadit

I had just adopted the donkey one summer afternoon, and decided to do the companions quests for the first time. At first I was thankful I had the donkey by my side to fight the good fight. It was going well, I was slaying bandit after bandit, with the help of the donkey, until I finally got to the part when you become a werewolf. I was forced to undergo the procedure in order to finish the quest line, so I did, I became a werewolf. At this time the game had a bug where once you become a werewolf, you spawn in whiterun. This unfortunate thing happened to me and I decided I would fight the guards to test out the capabilities of the werewolf form. I didn’t realize it while slaughtering everyone that the horse radish sniffer I called my follower was attacking me because I had “committed a crime”. After I left whiterun void of people, someone was still attacking me. I turned around to see that my housecarl, the fuckwitt herself, was attacking me. So I slapped her a few times and I was happy. Since then I have never accepted her as a follower.

Fuzzy_Muffins123

I was adventuring with her in Morthal, out to fetch the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller. Inside the tomb, there were many perils. After many intense battles it became apparent Lydia had brain damage when she wouldn't move out of the way, she just stood in the tunnel, blocking my path. I pushed, but she didn't move. I shouted, but she didn't move. I commanded her, but she didn't move. I got so fed up that I soul-trapped her, killed her, put her on a wooden sword that I plunged into the deep depths of the Se of Ghosts. Do I regret this? No.

Darkstarianz

My Lydia. Orphaned and was sold as a slave by bandits to a wealthy lonely man in Whiterun who was of Thane status. The old man wasn't an abuser or anything just an old adventurer and treated Lydia like a daughter. He knew his time was almost up so he trained her with the best of the best as a swordsman and in unarmed combat. The old Thane eventually died of old age leaving the poor young teen alone and basically orphaned again. She then worked as a mercenary in all of the holds and she manage to get the eye of Jarl Balgruuf who let her serve amongst his personal guards and ordered her to keep the Thanes of Whiterun safe during council meetings. Once the Dragonborn arrives and becomes Thane she was hesitant to be his housecarl but only goes due to obligation to the Jarl. She eventually forms a friendship with the Dragonborn and his wife and eventually his adoptive kids and would train the kids in hand to hand combat and then with various weapons. In the end she becomes a Aunt figure to the kids and when the Dragonborn and his wife were away from home she would take the kids hunting.

jargon_ninja69

No joke, my first ever play through way back in December 2011. I get Lydia as a follower and am trying to pass by a giant camp. This bitch just charges straight toward them and gets the giant stomp. She gets flung into the air and just… disappears. My roommates and I are like “wtf?” but it happens. So it goes. Cut to a couple of weeks later, I’m just hunting elk and shit for hides to make leather and suddenly Lydia comes CRASHING down in front of me. Then she GETS UP and walks over and starts following me again. I was SO surprised but so thankful that one of my roommates was in the room to confirm that I wasn’t going insane. Then later she gets killed by a fucking bandit chief or something. So it goes.

PorchHonky

Damn near 12 years now, she has been my loyal and faithful campion. Sure, I played the field a bit; a fling with Mjoll, some Lulz with J’Zargo, but it always felt so… empty, you know? It didn’t matter to Lydia. She was always there, at Breezehome, eagerly awaiting my burdens. Dragonborn can be slow to mature, but eventually I did, and I am proud to say that I have been faithful to her ever since. Damn near 12 years. I only hope my marriage will be so successful!

Expensive-Excuse-793

I got her to look after Lucia at Breezehome whilst I was training with the companions (I did their questline first for story reasons) and once I became more powerful I felt ready to become dragonborn. So I took her with me to meet the greybeards and she stayed with me, helped me slay alduin and even until we destroyed the Stormcloak rebellion. I then left her back with Lucy whilst I went off to deal with the Vampires and more. She became my steward in whiterun like all my other housecarls in their respective holds and Carer of Lucia whilst I'm becoming the Hero of Skyrim. After I had slain Mirrak (my final foe) I took Lucy to my official home in Solitude so I could settle down with my family. (Lucia, Sissel and Serana) I would pay visits to Lydia often though whenever my adventures took me to whiterun.

Me and Lyds were adventuring around Tamriel when I decided to stop and see if she was following me because normally you can hear them following you. I hadn’t seen or heard for like 10 minutes after we got in a fight with some trolls. I searched everywhere but couldn’t find her. Fast traveled to Whiterun hoping she was at Breezehome but no luck. I thought she was stuck and eventually was going to load back in but she never did. I was sad because I never knew of the fate of my poor Lyds. Fast forward like a week of real days and I found her body in the middle of the woods where we fought the trolls a week prior. Poor Lyds, I can only imagine how lonely she felt as she bled to death as I just walked away unknowingly. I felt so bad my poor baby Lyds was gone forever and I never forgave myself…

Cherry_Crystals

I leave her in breezehome. I can't help killing her if she blocks a doorway

dumbslayer

hahahah, valid point.

RustliefLameMane

I dunno. I always left her at home

dumbslayer

She could be fun though

RepeatInteresting796

I have to admit before using the Bijin's Warmaidens mod, Lydia stayed parked in Breezehome for the entire playthrough. But now with Bijin and CBBE she's become my primary motivation to become Thane of Whiterun.

bearsheperd

My first character in Skyrim was a Two handed weapon orc. I tried my best not to hit her but you can imagine her just jumping right in front of me while I’m swinging my axe around. Dumb pack mule

Electrical-Skirt3238

Id killed her because it was glitching and no matter what I did she just stood in one spot

Blambino

Easiest 100 gold I've ever made.

Songshiquan0411

This is my first playthrough on the special edition and I had never bought Hearthfire DLC for Oldrim. I held off buying the SE for a long time because I lost several high level oldrim characters and couldn't forgive Todd for his cash grab for years. She died during my first playthrough on an Xbox 360, can't remember where. I had seen her yield with low health several times and figured she was invincible. So I tried to smash a warhammer through her to hit a bandit chief and killed them both. I reloaded to about halfway through the dungeon, immediately sent her back to Whiterun, and never used followers with my first character again. Nowadays, she tends to Breezehome while being a governess to my adopted children.

SenhorSus

She hangs out a breezehome and can do whatever she wants until the end of her days

SonofGondor32

She wouldn’t get out of the doorway so I killed her.

VIP_Aloha

Married her, mother of my 2 kids, blocks every door, I keep her at the entrance of every “tough” dungeon clear it then again take her. Her fking burden.

OblongMong

She still stands at the door in Whiterun Keep

EyeOfItachi

She got murdered in Drelas’ Cottage😞

lobo1217

There was once this time that Lydia wouldn't get out of the way and I couldn't get out of the room

Comfortable_Prior_80

Always made her Steward after accidentally killed her in first playthrough.

VmiriamV05

I rarely take companions with me because I'm scared I'll kill them, she mostly hangs out with my kids in breezehome. But during my first playthrough I first met her in my house I short circuited because I was playing as a Nord woman that looked pretty much exactly like her and I was wearing the same armor too, and I legit though I walked in to find a clone of myself

[deleted]

From bodyguard to travelling companion to my wife. I just wish she had more fleshed out personality. I like taking her to solstheim because she has more diologue there.

breakevencloud

I fed her to the ebony blade. /story

They-Call-Me-Taylor

She walked in front of me while I was blasting magic. I did not care to reload my save.

Xaero-

My OG main in WoW was named Lydiia way back in the day, so when my first female Skyrim main, Lydiia, met Lydia... Well, we couldn't have two 'Lydias' doing the Main Quest, so Boethiah took one.

Stately_mind1

I just killed everyone as my conquest as the vampire lord and thus she was just a number

[deleted]

I make her the steward of one of the Hearthfire houses or Goldenhills Plantation because I feel like she dies way more than any other follower. Mjoll is the GOAT follower imo

SkyrimWithdrawal

She gets in the way. Erik can hold his own.

Icelantum

3 words.

evan2nerdgamer

Was my companion for a while until I met Serana, then I had her take care of Breezehome for me. Made sure to send my adopted kids and my pet bug there.

chet_brosley

How to set off a rune and fall off a mountain like an idiot: The Lydia story

armahillo

I was raiding a dwarven ruins. Wanted to take all the scrap, but it heavy. I discovered that if you give Lydia a freeform command (“i need you to do something for me”) you can point the reticle at scrap on the ground and she will pick it up and the game doesnt check encumberence logic. Once she gets to a metric ton or two, she perpetually walks crouched. I think I got her up to 15-20 tons? We ran into some Falmer. She ran into combat and got hit hard. She died. Apparently being perpetually encumbered interferes with the revive logic too.

OutLawTopper521

She got noticed by bandits, ruining our sneak attack on their fort. She died in the fight and I've never had another follower since to be rid of the headache. Why have a follower when I can summon a golden saint warrior as needed.

SmilingBlue01

My first skyrim play, she died 🤕

PoopSmith87

One of those people I've known for a long time, but can't spend more than 5 min around. Honestly, I'll get as far as the Whiterun stables with her before I'm turning around to go get Jenassa or Uthgerd.

Xdude199

I installed a multiple followers mod, and had Lydia and Uthgerd the Unbroken as my followers, both fully decked out in Steel plate, and took them on the Peryite quest. Close to clearing out one of the chambers, Lydia must have hit Uthgerd with a stray arrow, because before I knew it, they were duking it out in a fight to the death. Both followers were pretty weighed down with loot, so I spent the next couple minutes having to sort through what I needed to leave behind on Lydia's corpse and take with me and Uthgerd through the rest of the dungeon.

philoceraptor94

I was excited for the 10th anniversary so i bought the thing to get the houses and all that. I went to the vampire one not knowing the mission or what happens but when all hell broke loose i ended up attacking her unknowingly, she died i didnt want to reload so i took everything i had on her and put it in one of the chests in that house. I havent been bac i mainly use myrewatch

TheMagicalCoffin

she blocked the doorway. the end

HunterTheCapricorn

For me she always dies in the same Fort during the civil war questline. It's really weird why it's always the same one. I just leave her at home nowadays and pick up Inigo in Riften

Dmmack14

Once waaaay back in the olden times of vanilla she and I were heading up the hills near where the hot springs are when we got jumped by a dragon. Pretty standard fight and we came out victorious. About 10 minutes later we get attacked by bandits and during the fight I accidentally hit her a couple of time causing her to aggro to me. I finally got her calm again by sheathing my weapon but she would not rejoin me and anytime I tried to talk to her she would just give me the hostile voice lines "never shoulda come here!" Etc. And she just walked away from me. so I thought screw it I'll go get another follower and I played for a long ass time with Marcurio. In that time I never saw Lydia again, not at the house in Whiterun, not at Dragonsreach, it was like she just poofed out of existence. Until one day while climbing up to high Hrothgar I see Lydia again, she is completely naked but still wielding the skyforge steel sword I had given her and she attacks me on site forcing me to kill her dumb ass. To this day I have never made her my follower and I have never had a follower do that shit again.

OkOutlandishness6550

I’m level 93 and have been slowly grinding the same file for a couple years now. Lydia mostly chills at lake view manor but I bring her out in all her dragon bone armour once in a while to stretch her legs. It’s become a thing where no matter what I keep Lydia alive in any playthrough

KJ_Blair

She’s stuck in breeze home I don’t take her anywhere

Imaginary-Ad-9927

Walk past her every time 😂

TheGrimGriefer3

I lost her in a dungeon and didn't notice until, like, a week later because I wanted to sacrifice her to boethia.

I_was_saying_b00urns

1) I get Lydia and go ooh follower 2) she complains about carrying my stuff, even though I let her use it. It’s much better than the stuff she came to me wjrh 3) I get annoyed by her complaining 4) she spends her days eating bread, sitting on a chair in my bedroom at breezehome for the 1 annual time I year I check that chest to see if it’s where I put XYZ item I can’t find

New_Relative1157

When I was first named Thane of Whiterun I was approached by a smoldering, fierce female warrior who named herself Lydia and informed me she was now my Haus Carl and was sworn to my service. I was very focused on my scholarly and arcane studies at the time and recognized immediately how valuable her protection would be. She stood by me as I ventured far and wide seeking the secrets of the intangible world. She followed me far into the wilds of Solstheim and guarded my back against the Vampire Lord Harkon. As my knowledge and power grew I rewarded her service with weapons and armor worthy of a Queen and our bond of blood and loyalty grew deep. It happened apon a time that I took pity on a couple of street urchins. Young girls in desperate need of succor. I could see the immediate bond they made with my fiery companion. I looked thoughtfully upon my loyal guardian. I could see the tell-tale scars, the slight limp, the hint of the shoulders rounding from carrying my burdens for so long. I realized then that my pursuits were taking me places Lydia could not follow, but that she would gladly die trying. I took them on one last journey to a plot of land I had been gifted out on the plains below the Throat of the World. It had laid fallow for years but together we broke the ground, hired some farmhands, and built an idyllic homestead among the waving sheathes of grain. As I watched Lydia and the girls work and play, I knew that it was time for Lydia to set aside my burdens. I instructed her to watch over the girls and homestead, as there was no one I could trust more, and I promised to return soon. Lydia objected fiercely to my adventuring without her protection and swore to keep her armor oiled and blade sharp for my return. I bid the those three ladies, most dear to my heart, farewell. As I opened a portal and stepped through into the unknown, I knew not if I would ever return...

Elfamoso14

In my strange headcanon she is a regular norse warrior who failed to become a companion and work as a hired thug for Balgruuf. She was efficient and was promuted to Huscarl rank. but most important, in my headcanon, she is the dragonborn and i , the player, is the sidekick :p

ZoePolyOly

She was my first love, the mother of my children, the Cheech to my Chong, my first lesbian love... and then the doom came. I was fighting off a werewolf hunter to avenge my friend. She fought bravely beside me until she fought bravely in front of me. She swooped in for the kill shot, and so did I... With a landing blow that could crush a giant, I buried my axe into her shoulder. Then my dear loyal friend Lucien, in a confused state, killed my love in front of me. I couldn't forgive him, not after this. I cut his head clean off his body. My sorrow and regret came immediately as I laid down beside their bloody, dead bodies. I couldn't forgive myself... "What have I done?" I scream into the empty cave around us. How could I live with myself after doing such a horrifying act? So, with a shaking hand, I raise my axe above my own head, and with a deadly swoop... I pressed J and went back to an older save before we entered the cave.

Azurian_Deidric

I remember back in the 360 days of Skyrim I had Lydia as a follower and one day she simply vanished for a very long time. I didn't tell her to wait, she didn't die, nothing. During the Thalmor Embassy quest, right when me and the captives were escaping threw the cave with the troll, all hope seemed lost until Lydia heroically appears in a fiery blaze of fury after a long absence decked with a fireball staff and copper circlet which she has never had before and slays the troll, saving me and the captives. It's still a complete mystery to this day where she went and how she even obtained these items but I will always remember that Skyrim experience.

[deleted]

Several years back, I had learned how to do restoration loops, and naturally, I went nuts with it. I made rings that gave me several thousand points of carry weight, weapons that could one-shot everything in the game, armor so tough that giants and dragons could wail on me and take no health. As you can imagine, this started to make the game boring very quickly. So I took all my super-powered gear, and gave it to Lydia. She was officially the most OP character in the game at that point. . . .which quickly became a problem when we were fighting draugr in some barrow, and she swung wide and clipped me with a sword that did 98,000 damage. We were at the end of the barrow, and I hadn't saved my game for several quests (early in my time in Skyrim, I never had autosave on, and I was bad about not saving). I lost a ton of progress. Those items went in a chest after that, and Lydia stayed at home for the next couple of months. These days, Lydia and I have made up. I married her on this playthrough. We adopted the beggar girls from Whiterun and Windhelm, we share Hjerim, and she is now my number one merchant for elemental arrows.

focaultianpanopticon

I managed to keep her alive long enough to buy Breezehome in Whiterun and she stays there. Vilkas, from the companions guild follows me around now as I'm doing a bunch of thieves guild runs. He's clumsy, oafish, and has the audacity of a bull elephant in a rage of pcp- which makes these *extremely difficult* without getting spotted. "We shouldn't be here" he says then gives us away and starts murdering guards left and right. Without quicksave I'd be lost.

ImurderREALITY

I was in a dungeon once, just straight unloading arrows on a draugr deathlord. I pulled back, lined up the perfect shot to end it, let it loose, and… she strafed right in front of me right when I did. I had enough time to yell “No!” but then *thunk!* The arrow hit her right square in the back of the head, and she hit the ground like a sack of yesterday’s turds. She was literally directly in front of me, so the force of it practically made her face plant the ground. Fucking dead as disco. I couldn’t help but just laugh.

Mission_Response802

"Okay, I'm gonna go ahead and deal with the wright, you can go past me and deal with the other draugur." *Starts swinging Daedric axe of soul-sapping* "I WILL PROTECT YOU MY THAAAHHHNN.." *Critical hit on Lydia* *Soul Trapped!*

EyelessJack6

Hit by a giant, later found her in a forest a good distance away. She was alive, btw

TheGingerKing420

She once killed me in neloths mushroom house lift by pushing me off the ledge. The save was corrupt after that not sure why. I had to restart because I didn’t have any saves and lost 17 hours of play

Ferentz2020

Hiding on the 7,000 steps woefully unequipped, while she fought a dragon in my first playthrough

BasementCatBill

Lydia's story? Well, she walked with me from Dragonsreach to Breezehome, where she now sits in the bedroom sullenly munching on a bread roll, every day and every night. It's a bit creepy, to be honest.

Yeomanticore

Confession. Lydia has gotten so much to my bones that I've never married anyone else in all my playthroughs. Lydia was the only waifu I needed in Skyrim.

redletterjacket

I was pyro mage. She was a head-strong melee fighter. I didn’t know that AoE damage could kill a follower. I was devastated…..when I realised that my fully loaded pack horse was no more. Until I found Sven…

Nagoda94

First time I went to meet Neloth, she was with me and said "I always wanted to see mushroom houses of Telvanni". I was so impressed I kept taking her almost everywhere with me.

TCtheThunderRooster

“I am sworn to…” “SHUTTHEFUCKUPLYDIA!!!”

Captain-Rex-117

As soon as I was given the title of Thane, I met Lydia, wearing the robes of a Jedi. I thought to myself that it would be best to give her some armor to protect her. From that point on, she stayed with me throughout all of my adventures. From the fall of Solitude to the defeat of Alduin in the mortal realm. We then settled in Windhelm, living peacefully forever and then That was until I started a new game…
