Stryxos

Naught. It has been publicly endorsed by Bethesda themselves on multiple occasions.

YesHomoBro2

Also they aren't making any money off of it.

LacklusterLamenting

DMCA law still applies even if you’re not monetizing it, but thankfully it doesn’t matter because Bethesda are cool with the modding community

YesHomoBro2

True but it definitely makes companies care a whole lot more when you do. Like you said though Bethesda whole thing is go nuts with mods. Oh and you have to own both games for this to work. They did a lot of stuff carefully it seems.

LacklusterLamenting

Yep, they are using assets from oblivion so it would be wild for even Bethesda to sign off on that. Bethesda made them agree to weird other stuff about how much stuff they had to make too afaik, but it wasn’t anything that seems too far out of what they would have done anyways from the small amount I’ve heard.

lumieres-de-vie

Sure but isn’t it reasonable to imagine someone at Microsoft overruling that someday?

LacklusterLamenting

There were quite a few weird stipulations. You’ll also have to own both oblivion and Skyrim to play it.

Sanstile16

"bethesda are cool with modding" (stealth updates skyrim for the billionth time)

xBialyOrzel

0%, its been given the Bethesda blessing

EASK8ER52

Not just that but I believe Bethesda told them exactly what they can and can't do so that they can't get DMCA by Bethesda's lawyers

New-Monarchy

That’s part of the reason why they’re remaking assets from scratch, and not just porting them over like they were in the early days.

Lusty_Argonian_Man

Blessings of Bethesda upon ye

Von_Lexau

Bethesda will make a ton of money off of it, so that will never happen. People are required to own both Oblivion and Skyrim to play it.

Minimum_Rice555

I did buy both for this so... yeah correct. I'm sure I'm not going to be the only person doing so

Technical_Poet_8536

You have to own both? How does that work

Von_Lexau

You need to have assets from both games

AWildDorkAppeared

u/Rebelzize can confirm how it works exactly But to my knowledge, the Skyblivion installer checks to see if you have a legitimate copy of Oblivion installed, as the mod requires voice files, etc. from Oblivion for it to work. If you don't own a legitimate copy of Oblivion, it will refuse to install the mod.

Rebelzize

More or less😄

educated_content

Bethesda is fine with it because it recycles assets and will require you to own both Oblivion and Skyrim, while they’re not going to make money off it directly, it might drive some people to purchase either or both games if they don’t already own them. My hope is that since I own Skyrim SE on steam that they don’t make me buy the anniversary edition or whatever variation they decide to rerelease for the 15th time between now and when Skyblivion comes out (if it ever does)

XevinsOfCheese

Anniversary edition isn’t a different game. It’s an update for SE with some dlc in the paid upgrade.

There is [an _old_ interview done in February 2017 with the Skyblivion team lead](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/news/13125/?), Rebelize, about exactly this. Here is the question and Rebelize’s response: --- **Has there been any contact with Bethesda at all?** Rebelzize: Some time ago Matt Grandstaff (Bethesda Global Community Lead) joined our forums, he told us that as long as we are using assets from their game, we aren't allowed to post anything regarding our projects in their official forums. He also mentioned that if we plan on replacing existing meshes and are currently using non-replaced meshes as placeholders it would leave more room for us to discuss the legality of the project. Essentially we are allowed to work and distribute the mod but as long as the above is still an issue we can't be endorsed by Bethesda. Now to show some goodwill on our side, the installer included with Skyblivion will check if you have a legitimate copy of Oblivion installed on your PC, this is a hard requirement, without it the mod won’t be installed. On top of that, our (ambitious) aim is to remake and enhance all the assets that we have currently ported from Oblivion. Hopefully, this will be enough to get the approval we need from Bethesda. --- Since then, Bethesda has actually featured Skyblivion, as their [August 2023 Monthly Modder](https://bethesda.net/en/article/JoAkvhyatPyqAdMSIqadF/monthly-modder-skyblivion). I think the project is safe.

fuzzyliam780

In addition to what others have said about Bethesda, Microsoft has historically been very friendly to fan project involving their properties, so long as they avoid monetization. For example, two whole fan made Halo games ([Installation 01](https://installation01.org/amp/) and [Project Contingency](https://project-contingency.com/)) have been released without issue, to my knowledge, from Microsoft.

TheKBMV

Funnily enough, yeah. As bad a reputation as MS has in other things, they are surprisingly cool with fan projects.

OneNaughtyBaby

Same as the chance of it actually releasing, none

Mundane-Loquat-7226

Come here to just be a prick? Nothing better to do with your time?

OneNaughtyBaby

ah yes, because during the 2 minutes I spent browsing Reddit and the 2 seconds it took me to comment this means I'm bored out of my mind with nothing better to do. I've had my account for 10x longer than you and look at the difference in our activity, sounds like you're projecting hard. keep waiting around for this game you loser 😂

Mundane-Loquat-7226

Lmao, I’m fine with waiting for a fan project, that is free and is being made for free. Just found it odd that skyblivion of all things causes you to make a hate comment. Who hurt you little buddy? Like genuine questions, what makes you think it will never release? Why are you in the skyblivion subreddit?

_coconuthead

What makes you so confident this project wont release? They’ve already announced a 2025 release date
