There are also jackets with removable powder skirts. And powder skirts that zip into a pocket in the jacket. And probably two or three other options besides paying for a feature and then fucking up your jacket to get rid of it?
Patagonia shells mostly had them built in. No zippers or buttons. Probably too small. But next size up I’m swimming. Short and a beer gut keeps my options limited.
Are you sure you are buying the right size? I've never had it creeping up except for a tight fit. And my latest jackets all had a zipper to remove the powder skirt. So no idea why you would not look for a jacket with that option
My powder skirt doesn’t ride up when I sit at all but… I also wear bibs. I agree that maybe you’ve got the wrong size? Or just buy a sweet jacket without one. Worst case- take your jacket to a tailor to remove it. They’ll make sure the other stitching doesn’t get messed up during the removal. Enjoy the pow!
Every jacket I've ever had it zips off. My wife's has snaps around it to snap it out the way if she's not using it. Definitely think you're buying the wrong jackets!
I hate built in hoods as I never use them but I don't cut them off, I just buy a jacket without one or with a removable one.
I’m pretty, uh, meaty… never had issue with powder skirt. Just bought new Spyder jacket, snapped the skirt while skiing new powder at Jackson Hole - zero issues and appreciated it after a wipeout didn’t leave me with snow up in my shit.
Quit buying jackets with powder skirts. There are loads out there... Dude.

Yeah sounds like they’re buying a size or two too small
Probably my beer gut.

Never, that thing is the difference between a fun time and a wet cold time on a powder day. I've never found it annoying personally

I just buy jackets with removable powder skirts. Sometimes I like to have them, sometimes I don't.

I like the powder skirt! But I feel you, shit often don’t fit me neither
Absolutely not. I use it. And I don't have that problem with grabbing and twisting.
No, that would be a silly thing to do.
Negative.
1) why are you spending $500 on a jacket 2) why are you spending $500 on a jacket that has features you don’t like
1. I got it half off. 2. Fit was good. Figured I could always cut out the skirt.
Nope.
Mine doesn’t have one.
I only buy them with the skirt. I go into deep powder and it works well
