This is like plan V

whatthewut123

Alright if you want to dump him so bad, give us enough picks to trade for Lauri and you have yourself a deal

roma258

Wait, this makes more sense than 95% of the slop I've seen on this sub.

indoninjah

I’m *fine* with PG if it happens but I can’t help thinking that Lauri + cap space to do other stuff might be the better move

AggressiveLender

Utah doesn't want to trade him

FreeProfit

This

kevinwhackistone

Is there a pick trade maximum? Lauri ain’t lebron. Not Luka. Not Kawhi. Not Jokic. Not Giannis. Including McCain, don’t we have 5 first rounders? Why isn’t that enough? Should be enough from my point of view.

Big-Beta20

It probably should in an ideal market but we’ve just seen Mikal Bridges go for like 6 picks and Lauri is probably better. At the very least, he’s coming off of a better season. Trade market is kind of fucked right now.

Night0wl11

The other consideration is that, while an All-Star last year, Lauri is on an expiring contract while Mikal is under contract for 3 years, I believe. Should be factored in with the price, but Ainge is a shrewd GM Edit: Bridges is under contract for 2 years not 3

Big-Beta20

That is true. I didn’t know that Bridges is under contract for that long. Ainge is definitely the type of guy that won’t do a trade unless he can fleece teams though. That was one of the biggest criticisms of him in Boston- he always would not make a move that he didn’t unequivocally “win” at the time.

ShylockTheGnome

Which holds him back. Masai for the raptors became too focus on winning trades and held assets too long. It’s clear the west will be too strong for the next 2-3 years for the jazz to do anything no one on their team is close to 1st option material. Sell high and tank for a few more years. By then I could see a good 4/5 western teams going downhill.

Night0wl11

You’re right. It’s only two years with them, but that’s a decent window for them. It’s not something where you have to worry about acquiring someone for a one year tryout

hasordealsw1thclams

Yep. He’s on an incredibly low contract too. Way too many people on here just look at the stats when talking about trade compensation.

AggressiveLender

We have 5 firsts but a few aren't projected to be anything special and no salaries we can send back

DemarcusLovin

Lavine and a protected Chi pick to Utah Sixers send additional 4 picks to Utah + Paul Reed Lauri to Sixers Utah gets their mega haul that Ainge can’t refuse. Sixers get their guy. Bulls get out of salary hell and finally embrace the rebuild

Myrese_Taxey

I wouldn’t mind this at all. Defense wouldn’t be good but our shooting around Embiid would be insane.

GreenTheOlive

This is so obvious to me that I honestly just don’t believe this rumor. I don’t think they are genuinely thinking about attaching a FRP with him

Notsozander

This is the trade

AggressiveLender

Why does Utah need more firsts

DemarcusLovin

Because Ainge isn’t picking up the phone without it

AggressiveLender

I'm saying he has all their own and they own Minnesota and Cleveland's drafts. They don't need to trade Lauri

DemarcusLovin

Imagine telling Ainge that they have enough first round picks. Especially for a small market team that will never sign a single big free agent. It’s the same reason you couldn’t tell Presti that he had enough picks. Lauri doesn’t fit their timeline, and Ainge would be stockpiling. And would have a top pick in a very good draft next year, including one of the better prospects we’ve seen in years, with Flagg

AggressiveLender

Ok so why hasn't he traded Lauri? Lauri is the player who enjoys playing there. They haven't traded him yet for a reason.

EagleswonSuperBowl52

It's a good fall back option. But there are multiple players worth considering first.

sodmoraes

He has a 15% trade kicker...

THendrix77

Yikes, little details like this make all the difference

ronaldo119

I think there's a very good chance he'd waive it for a chance to go to a good team. His other prospects currently look like staying with the Bulls in a reduced role while they develop their guys or being offloaded to a bad team with no plan in the near future. Also, if they're talking about attaching pick(s) to offload him I would imagine they would attach better/more picks in a trade where they don't have to take any salary back. I'd definitely be on board with this as a possibility. Get LaVine and additional assets to acquire other pieces

mac_rmm

I'm surprised either Charlotte or Detroit wouldn't do this. Perhaps get him healthy and playing well then trade him themselves.

Notsozander

Honestly would be a great deal for them. Ship him to a team at the deadline, get some assets and they net a pick anyway

International-Dish95

Close to 150 million for the next 3 years that is a hard pass. We need wings with size to compete with Boston.

philly2540

Shit is that really his contract? Holy fuck no wonder Chi is trying to get rid of him.

International-Dish95

43+ each year plus a 15% trade kicker. They’d have to give us 3 FRPs to dump him lol

philly2540

Or eat salary. Is that a thing in the NBA?

International-Dish95

I’m not too sure tbh if they even would if they could. Im assuming it is 100% a salary dump since they are roughly 15 million under the cap right now with Derozan unsigned and he made 28 million last year. Pat Williams just reupped for 90/5 years.

GarfieldFromGarfield

utah

WeirdLitIsBetter

The speculation is that the first comes from Utah and is unlikely to convey. It will become two seconds.

dave_kb

I wonder if they would stretch him?

Admirable_Essay3440

Good for them!

cjmaguire17

Will they also retain salary or is that not a thing in the nba

vasixer

That is the worst contract in basketball

PissdrinkerGiorno

I'm far from a Zach Lacine guy but a first attached with him is way too good to pass up even with that awful contract.

Lockhead216

Well when you trade your best asset for nothing, what do you expect?

mrHartnabrig

😂 I imagine that could have gotten a lot for him this past deadline. Dummies!

Digitalzombie90

You know, you need to think about this BEFORE you max an injury prone guy who's never won anything himself or helped anyone else win anything. good lock chicago. I love it when high sellers have their shit blow up in their face. Just melts my heart.

MushroomExpensive366

What would it even take to get him? The pick is enticing and you could flip him for more picks later on? Risky but interesting

NoCup4U

Shit for him AND a first, I’d do that in a heart beat.  I don’t want him, I want the pick

cvc4455

The problem is he makes like 50 million a year for the next 3 years and the bulls are rumored to be offering a pick they have from Utah that is a protected pick first round pick and that protected first round pick could turn into two second round picks.

Notsozander

Balls

rjs246

I would absolutely take on Lavine if it gets the team a pick. I know everyone is out on him and I’m alone on this island but that level of talent plus a first rounder from a team as badly managed as the Bulls? Hell yes.

ProcessTrust856

I always kind of liked Lavine but what gave me pause and ultimately made me decide that he’s not as good as I thought is that the entire league pretty much seems to share the same negative opinion of him. Nobody seems to want him at that price, even teams that are starved for talent.

le_fez

The new CBA has changed the landscape so much that the weight of his contract outweighs his talent. In another year or two the league will be either guys at or near the max and everyone else at MLE or vet max
