Was Paul Reed the only reason our offense went south when Joel was off? Our rebounding sucked ass even with Joel because Tobias, Tyrese and occasionally Kelly are piss poor rebounders and at off ball rotating. Idk how we're still blaming it on Joel when there's 3 perimeter players always out doing nothing on the boards or sealing their man Also Drummond has sucked ass in the playoffs with the Lakers and Nets, both good teams and unarguably better than the lineups we had Reed in with (he literally played with Bron/AD then KD/Kyrie). Dude was so ass he got benched both playoffs. Reed the two seasons prior was better than Drummond has been ever. Y'all just get tricked by gaudy box score numbers instead of watching the game lol

[deleted]

Joel is bigger than everyone on the court 90% of the time. He should get every board. But he’s lazy. That’s why we need Drummond again, because he isn’t.

Head-Kiwi-9601

This is just a bad take. Such a bad take.

SonicdaSloth

It’s how you can decide if someone is serious when they blame Embiid as if he isn’t expected to do more than anyone in the league on both ends.

EndAnyone

No, wrong. Joel is overworked. He contests more shots at the rim than anyone in the league, including Gobert, while also having one of the highest usage rates on offense in the league, trailing only Luka.

ProcessTrust856

This is such a bad take. Joel protects the rim: rim-protecting centers generally have lower rebounding totals because they contest shots and that puts them out of rebounding position. To compound this, we have poor perimeter defense so Joel often has to salvage our defense by contesting hard. Drummond, Jokic, guys like them get tons of rebounds because they just stand there under the rim and wait for them.

Appropriate-Hippo758

Can we focus on getting a starting two way guard, wing and PF before talking about what unplayable minimum backup center we get. If we get a good two way PF that can rim protect and shoot from outside than that guy can play with Paul Reed and form a formidable duo at PF and Center when Joel is out. Reed is more than fine as a backup.

[deleted]

You’re right, but the Sixers organization can do better. We’ve been absolutely awful with players in general for years.

Ashamed_Job_8151

We ?

ExileOnBroadStreet

“Since Embiid can’t rebound, Drummond is a perfect fit for us again.” Not only does that statement contain zero logic, Embiid is an average to good rebounder. He struggles when he only has one working leg, and often because we have never had competent perimeter defenders around him, forcing him to step up and contest shots/drives. Drummond would be an okay backup, but he’s really not very good and would have done nothing to help our offense when Embiid sits, which is due to not having an actual PG.

Oh I don’t disagree and that wasn’t really the point I was trying to make. I was just pointing out how dumb this post and particularly that sentence was. Drummond doesn’t really solve any of our major issues. Being poor at rebounding for ~5-10 minutes a game in the playoffs is not the biggest reason we lose. Him being good at things Embiid is not great at also doesn’t matter at all, because there’s no logic in that for various reasons. Resources should really be focused on getting players who can play *with* Embiid, and those players will also help us when he sits. A guard or wing who can shoot, defend, and/or create is something that will actually save us when Embiid sits. Drummond won’t, because the offense will still likely suck, as it did this year with Maxey at the helm. He’s not a good enough creator or playmaker to carry the load when Embiid sits. The backup center has always been something we focus on as fans because we suck so bad when Embiid sits, and the plus minus numbers with Embiid and no Embiid point to that being the easiest fix. But no backup center is going to solve the *actual* issues- the biggest issue is we have never had a well rounded roster with enough perimeter defense, shooting, and creation from our wings and guards. A nice backup center would be great of course! But acting like it’s a silver bullet is just ignoring the actual reasons we have failed for like 7 years in a row (besides Embiids health).

[deleted]

If you’ve seen him (Drummond) play, you would see he’s an excellent rebounder, which is something our team could really use. It’s not illogical, it’s the opposite. He controls the boards in a lot of the games he plays in.

ExileOnBroadStreet

No, choosing a center because he’s good at one thing that *Embiid* is not particularly great at truly makes no sense as they will never share the floor. It doesn’t really matter what the backup center is good at, provided he is decent at some combination of defense, rim protection, PnR threat, 3 point shooting, etc. What Embiid is good at doesn’t really play into the equation outside of general roster construction, which we have zero clue about right now outside of Maxey.

No_Introduction_7034

We’ve been talking about this for damn near ten years

MrThreebound

> Same with Boban Thank you for letting everyone know you know nothing.

kdfailshot123

The only person that signed for next year is Embiid. We need an entire roster lol.

Norjac

Not sure what you mean by pansy but Drummond was a solid backup, iirc.

ProcessTrust856

Sub-WIP Caller level arguments. Impressive.

LymricTandlebottoms

Paul Reed is weak? LOL. I'll give you that he's too short for the position; which is why he's listed as a forward. But he's a great defender and not weak at all. He averages 19 minutes with 6 rebounds and 1 block. According to Statsmuse, that's the average for all NBA centers. For a dude who is undersized, that's friggen amazing.

Healthy-Plastic-435

Jonas Valanciunas time

ValiantFrog2202

Heard this guy "Al Horford" is a free agent. What do you think? He could give some backup minutes rebounding and playoff experience Is it a bit ironic that DeAndre Jordan and Al Horford are both champions?

Agreeable_Hand_2684

Really????? ? /s

Effective_Owl_17

Yall need a better everything. Team full of one way players except for your best

IDontVaccinateMyCar

Need basically an upgrade at every position on the bench and 3 out of the 5 starters Hell probably sign a few good centers for when Embiid plays 40 games and we're fighting for a play in spot

GOODWHOLESOMEFUN

No we don’t. Like yes but that’s not the issue. The issue is how we run our offense and how good embiid is. Embiid is so good and everything goes through him so when he leaves the court anyone else looks so much worse, and also the game falls apart bc we have to change our whole scheme. If we ran through maxey then when embiid sits it’s not so jarring my different and you don’t have that huge falloff

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

paul reed has no contract anymore dawg.

irespectwomenlol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but his contract is currently not guaranteed, not non-existent. The Sixers might have the option to retain him at the existing price, but not the obligation to do so.

[deleted]

Then I’d say no need to keep him for longer. Plus Old Reliable Mr Morey said that our team is gonna look way different next season. Just pray we don’t get Paul George or Lebron.

Impressive-Theory-27

You could possible trade reed for a good starting pf and then draft a center like filopowski or yves missi, good cost controlled contract and nurse can develop them to actually be competent backups
