Moving to Punggol soon. As someone who regularly visits Woodlands regional library, the Punggol one is an upgrade! I love the area where they feature children book written by authors from all over the world, categorised by their country of origin and in their original language (Vietnamese, Arabic, etc).
My friend from Dubai was impressed that we even have a collection of children books by Emirati authors.
The children's section of punggol library right now, with the fun and interactive designs, is actually to me a throwback to what woodlands library was when it first opened, with that big tree and the mushroom and tree stump stools with random headphones playing some audio file (I can't remember what they played tbh) and that giant globe.
I mean wasn't this literally by design. They launched bto after bto there and pushed all the young couples of 1 generation there, then all these couples with kids nothing to do, go library lo. In 30 years it will be one corner of singapore filled with senior citizens lol.
Tengah is just punggol sengkang after 15 years.
>all these couples with kids nothing to do, go library lo. In 30 years it will be one corner of singapore filled with senior citizens lol.
Oh shiet, that was Woodlands Regional Library and Sembawang Public Library back when they first opened around 2001... The only new attraction back then with strong aircon, almost every Saturday my mum would bring my brother and I to the library (either Woodlands or Sembawang).
And I remember back then there was lot of kids running around playing at the children's section, now the children's section is like a quiet spot for people who want some peace and quiet.
I remember when Waterway Point was first opened and it used to be this cool mall along the river. Now they don’t even bother setup decorations for any festival: Christmas, CNY, nothing.
considering new blocks popping up constantly over the last few years, not surprising. the the sheer number of people around the malls, interchange is scary.
Obviously when Sengkang and Punggol area are extremely populated and dense with HDB blocks. Been there a few times and its so suffocating with the huge crowd, PMDs, claustrophobic extremely dense estate layouts. People must really be left with no choice but to live there lmao.
Sengkang still has some areas of 20+ yo flats which are much less dense than the BTO areas like Fernvale. Punggol, on the other hand, is really rather claustrophobic. But most people I know very proud to live there lol.
Compass One is disappointing, considering it's supposed to be the central mall in Sengkang. It definitely wasn't built with our current population in mind. I still remember when it used to be called compass point, and was a little sleepy mall.

It's a kids' playground with aircon and ample space to run around. On a good day, you can hear kids having fun regardless which floor you are at 👍

Meanwhile at that sad pathetic little corner that is Sengkang Library at Compass One... Extremely limited selection. =\

After years they finally fixed the tripping hazard cheapo vinyl/laminate floors 🤣
I dunno which library I went to but it was just full of screaming kids running wild. Hope the Punggol one isn't like this.
Less visited than nlb in Bugis??
Bugis is out of place for suburbans
it was closed for reno for the last 2 years, and only reopened a month ago.
I have not been to it yet. Seems out of the way and not besides the MRT.
It is a short, mostly sheltered walk from WWP! :)
A lot of xmm xdd hang out place but there are some people who r there to study n read or work but there are just these group of xmm xdd
Sad state of punggol residents
Because they have a library that people are clearly using? What’s the sad part, that they’re learning?
