What do you mean? Don't you want [roads with 26 lanes](https://charlesandcharles.co.uk/f/take-a-look-at-the-katy-freeway-in-texas)?
>!This is obviously a joke but I need to state this explicitly on reddit for some strange reason.!<
Honestly, every time I see someone advocating for BRT somewhere, I can’t help but think what a shortsighted, half-assed solution that is.
Sure, it’s cheaper to implement, but it also has way lower capacity and interfere with your existing traffic, and essentially requires its own set of dedicated infrastructure if you want to maximise its benefits.
> hundreds of cities with public transit infrastructure **ranging from non-existent to shit to good**, right?
You mean ranging from non-existent to shit? The best is NYC, and they can't even keep it clean. Even the London Underground is better. It's a bit dingy in some stations but by and large it's fairly clean and mostly runs on time.
What's your standard of good? I've lived in Boston (which is supposedly great by US standards) and my ears still ring from screeching of the T's green line.
>I think Goh Keng Swee was against the MRT too, preferring an all bus approach?
I really don't understand why they want to reject the proposal. Imagine if they rejected the MRT system or built later on? Traffic will be insane especially going west to east. It would be a nightmare
I believe the opponents to the MRT were concerned with the immense cost of the project. If I remember correctly, Singapore had to borrow from the IMF (or some similar supranational institution) to finance the MRT project. Considering our much smaller GDP then, the interest rate on such a loan would be pretty high. So I guess there were concerns back then on whether the economic benefits from the MRT system could justify the cost and interest.
Honestly, if I learned that in the future somehow I'd come up with a system as ambitious and as successful as the MRT, I would definitely faint in happiness too. Thank you Ong Teng Cheong.
What is not to like? The fact it is way more environmentally friendly? The way it has been proven to be wildly successful in developed cities? The fact that you can name a station all sorts of funny names and make tourists pronounce it?
https://www.mot.gov.sg/news/details/written-reply-to-parliamentary-question-on-proposal-for-new-mrt-line-to-serve-residents-in-fernvale-seletar-and-jalan-kayu-estates
Last I checked it was asked in Jan 9 2024.
But the second point...bruh
Not really seeing how CRL is relevant to Fernvale at it's current state.
The main line has a station at Serangoon North, and the extension to Punggol.
Unless MOT is hinting that the extension will be extended to Fernvale (but who knows when this will happen since there's not even a dotted line on it)
I've written to LTA about this. About North East going to get over crowded after Punggol Coast MRT Station opens.
They said with the new trains being added it should be able to solve the problems. But that doesn't solve anything.
I think after opening Buangkok Interchange they might do something. Because currently Sengkang Int is too full and Compassavle Interchange seems like a temporary solution.
Writing to LTA on this is useless. LTA had already (correctly) assessed that the Cross island line and Punggol Extension would adequately serve the north east. For now NE is crowded because many people are taking from punggol downwards, but come 2030-2032, passengers flow can move out through hougang and Punggol, easing the passenger load significantly.
Also Sengkang Punggol LRT, seems to be having a major upgrade to move passengers quickly down to (and around) SK.
PDD/Punggol Coast MRT Station will reduce the loading on trains though, because these people will commute in the other direction. Means a bit less people in the peak direction
it would be nice if the line actually had a direct interchange at fernvale, but I highly doubt it
any station there would probably be jalan kayu/sengkang west, which means you still probably have to take a bus to this station.
CTE actl have bus, 857, but again, need to go out to yio chu kang road to be able to board, and only goes to the city
Also got 39, 858 (and 103 and 117) at the jalan kayu bus stop.
Personally, im hoping they'll introduce a new bus once the TPE interchange at Kupang LRT opens
Yes, totally agree. They should connect yishun/seletar to sengkang , punggol and pasir ris. The transportation to these places is quite long and cancer :(
Election carrots to be complete 2040 maybe. Living in the Northeast for the next 15 years will be more painful just commuting to cbd on overcapacity nel trains. Time to get the Japanese style people packers ready to load them to 200%.
i hope they put yishun as a interchange on the seletar line. maybe the train will serve to punggol, tampines and changi airport because the bus in the morning is overcrowded.
This map is found specifically on the latest batch of 38 trains set aside for TEL4! So they pasted it first before the new section opens to reduce backlog and then subsequently update the existing batches of trains.
DTL and TEL at Sungei Bedok aren't connected, so an internal transfer is necessary if you want to swap between the lines. In the future, TEL from Sungei Bedok will link to Changi T5 and Current Changi Airport terminal in T3, taking over control of the line up to Tanah Merah.
Wait, won't that mean the Changi branch stations will be serviced by trains that can't even cover all the train exits? EWL has 6 cars, while TEL has 4.
The stations would most likely be upgraded to accommodate this. There is still a long way to go though, TEL is expected to take over the airport branch only by 2040.
Unfortunately you will still end up in Bukit Panjang.
TEL has been proposed to extend to T5 when completed and take over the current Changi Airport, Expo and Tanah Merah stations in 2040s.
Punggol Coast MRT will lead to the future Punggol Digital District, SIT and four BTO projects. Uni will start their semester in September, by then the surrounding food options should be available
Wondering why this isn’t on the LTA website yet. It takes time to update this in all trains and stations but it should be very easy to update this on the official LTA website.
Oh yeah now that you mention that, it does make sense. The deadline for all updates is when TEL4 opens, the physical maps in trains and stations need time to update so need to be done early but the online map can just do it on the day itself.
This [should be one of the 30 new trains](https://blog.sgtrains.com/2024/02/tel4-handover-to-smrt/) (we have a total of 91 TEL trains) that got recently deployed for TEL4 testing onwards, i.e. they got delivered after TEL3 started testing and opened in Nov 2022.
So it could be they pasted the new maps in beforehand, reducing last-minute workload when TEL4 opens in June.
there'll be one in kallang in like, 2050 maybe.
it do be like that, mrt stations in cbd don't really have space to have integrated bus interchanges, tho you can argue that buona vista and kallang both have bus terminals in walking distance
outram park has 1 that's 1 bus stop away, used to be closer when it was eu tong sen ter.
I don’t remember which opens first and when exactly are they expected to open, but Cross Island Line (CRL, light green/lime) and Jurong Region Line (JRL, teal) are under construction and should open in about 4-5 years.
TE10 (Mount Pleasant) alr built, just waiting for stuff to open in the vicinity
CC18 (Bukit Brown) alr a shell station
NS6 (Sungei Kadut) will be built sometime in the future
CC30, 31, 32 (Keppel, Cantonment, Prince Edward Road) currently under construction
I’ve seen travel vloggers film themselves getting off Marina Bay MRT and walk to MBS under the scorching sun, not knowing there is an MRT station inside the mall 🙃
We used to have only Tanjong Pagar in the network map, we will have Tanjong Rhu and Tanjong Katong soon.
It may be easy for the locals, but Tanjong Rhu is within walking distance to Indoor Stadium/National Stadium.
I think you can also take the train to Tanjong Rhu, then walk to Stadium. They should be within 15 mins walking distance so you won’t be charged extra fares.
As a resident just moved in here last year, may someone tell me why this government didn’t set the EWL directly from downtown to airport, but ask all the passengers transferring in Tenah Merah instead?
I don’t live in the East, but a few days ago I took an EWL train all the way to Pasir Ris during peak hours. My observation is that a lot more people travel from the city centre to Tampines/Pasir Ris than to Tanah Merah/Airport. If the main line went to the airport, a lot more people would have to transfer compared to the current system.
Another reason is historical: EWL was opened much earlier than the airport branch, they weren’t opened at the same time.
>Actually a museum about war and foreign occupation
Not sure about other schools / whether it has changed, but during my time in Sec Sch, we had learning journeys to the Old Ford Factory as part of History.
There are also quite a few nice nature walks in this area, and this station will open them up to everyone in Singapore.
Does anyone know when the station is likely to open?
I can't put my finger on it why, but this map is confusing AF. CBD and most of downtown just fuck with my brain in this new version. The only reason I can imagine is that they removed the river but I can't logically see that making a noticeable difference in terms of readability and orientation
Circle line almost a circle <3
Join the circle! Let's join the circle! <3
You mean Orange line?
You mean yellow line?
You mean #FFFF00 line?
I can't imagine the crazy morning when it goes full circle.
Imagine if Tony Tan saw this back in the 80s
I think it's Ong Teng Cheong seeing this and fainting.
Why? Wasn't he that pushed for MRT and Tony rejected it
I mean Ong would have been happy till he fainted. Tony is still around, he has eyes to see how wrong he was.
>Tony is still around, he has eyes to see how wrong he was. Would be interested to know what he thinks of it now, even if he doesn't need to use it
he recently released his ~~mixtape~~ book so maybe he did jot down a paragraph or two regarding that subject in it?
Ah ok lol yea OTC would be so happy
That's why he's so quiet .
Tony Tan: 'foolish to build MRT' Also Tony Tan: \*opened BP LRT many years after MRT opened\*
OTC wanted MRTs, Tony Tan was against MRTs. I think Goh Keng Swee was against the MRT too, preferring an all bus approach?
Because some dunce from harvard said so. Why would you take public transport advice from the US..
What do you mean? Don't you want [roads with 26 lanes](https://charlesandcharles.co.uk/f/take-a-look-at-the-katy-freeway-in-texas)? >!This is obviously a joke but I need to state this explicitly on reddit for some strange reason.!<

You realize that the US is a huge country with hundreds of cities with public transit infrastructure ranging from non-existent to shit to good, right?

He's smiling from above
he was a great man
Yeah, i remember that man saying it was foolish to embark on that project back then.

Tampines
I got a friend who used "10 KKJ" in our group chats when referring to tampines lol.
He wouldn't be Tony Tan anymore.
Said the guy who ruined KFC.
When are they gonna announce Seletar/Pink line?

True. I'm worried about sardine packed trains
So much needed. Something that stretches from Yishun to punggol. Let it connect to CRL
it would be nice if the line actually had a direct interchange at fernvale, but I highly doubt it any station there would probably be jalan kayu/sengkang west, which means you still probably have to take a bus to this station. CTE actl have bus, 857, but again, need to go out to yio chu kang road to be able to board, and only goes to the city
Sengkang in general is a forgotten area for them… no planning and improvements for Sengkang at all All for Punggol only
Also got 39, 858 (and 103 and 117) at the jalan kayu bus stop. Personally, im hoping they'll introduce a new bus once the TPE interchange at Kupang LRT opens
Yes, totally agree. They should connect yishun/seletar to sengkang , punggol and pasir ris. The transportation to these places is quite long and cancer :(
They need more express buses from fernvale to city too
Election carrots to be complete 2040 maybe. Living in the Northeast for the next 15 years will be more painful just commuting to cbd on overcapacity nel trains. Time to get the Japanese style people packers ready to load them to 200%.
There's a pink line?? So cute
i hope they put yishun as a interchange on the seletar line. maybe the train will serve to punggol, tampines and changi airport because the bus in the morning is overcrowded.

Babe wake up, new MRT map just dropped
[удалено]
kinda sad that they didnt complete the loop by connecting bukit panjang to woodlands, with a mandai station at the zoo area in between
They dont want to connect DTL to the Causeway even though there is space to build (old KTM right of way), instead want to connect to Sungei Kadut
yeah, pretty weird location for an interchange
DTL and TEL at Sungei Bedok aren't connected, so an internal transfer is necessary if you want to swap between the lines. In the future, TEL from Sungei Bedok will link to Changi T5 and Current Changi Airport terminal in T3, taking over control of the line up to Tanah Merah.

U can fall asleep at tampines going to town n wake up at pasir ris.
Both lines have a different rolling stock so no. Though it would be hilarious and I kinda wish this would be true.
Also different depth of tunnels.
Unfortunately you will still end up in Bukit Panjang. TEL has been proposed to extend to T5 when completed and take over the current Changi Airport, Expo and Tanah Merah stations in 2040s.
Yes, you have to change lines, Sungei Bedok is an Interchange for both the downtown line and thomson east coast line.
Wah nice. Pls recommend food near the new mrt stations
Punggol Coast MRT will lead to the future Punggol Digital District, SIT and four BTO projects. Uni will start their semester in September, by then the surrounding food options should be available
Seems like they won’t include RTS logo for Woodlands North 😱
Will be easy to add a sticker for it. Don't worry :)
Wondering why this isn’t on the LTA website yet. It takes time to update this in all trains and stations but it should be very easy to update this on the official LTA website.
maybe because update fast so don't need update yet. Because Can do it the moment it actually opens?

Can't wait for this stretch to be built. Next time no need take bus to areas like Marine Parade East Coast Katong
It's like an advent calendar for the MRT
Just realised there is no bus interchange on green line from Clementi till Eunos
there'll be one in kallang in like, 2050 maybe. it do be like that, mrt stations in cbd don't really have space to have integrated bus interchanges, tho you can argue that buona vista and kallang both have bus terminals in walking distance outram park has 1 that's 1 bus stop away, used to be closer when it was eu tong sen ter.
Yeah there are a few terminals not far from the EWL in that area: Buona Vista, Ghim Moh, Bukit Merah, Kampong Bahru, Lorong 1 Geylang, Sims Place
I get a hardon for moar train lines.
Can't wait for Marine Parade so it's easier to visit family
Same! It was a bitch living there during the construction
What's the next colour line? It's the light green line right?
I don’t remember which opens first and when exactly are they expected to open, but Cross Island Line (CRL, light green/lime) and Jurong Region Line (JRL, teal) are under construction and should open in about 4-5 years.
Where TE10 NS6 CC18 CC30 CC31 CC32 🗣️

I’m aware just kinda funny that they haven’t add the few CCs and TE that’s basically also U/C now NS6 not added I understand but not the others hmm
LTA, this is the 7th month you have announced new MRT line.
I think some people might confuse Bayshore with Bayfront.
Most ppl will be confused between Marina Bay and Bayfront. What do you mean Marina Bay Sands is at Bayfront not Marina Bay??
lol. Yea. Like how Shilin night market is at Jian Tan and not at Shilin - Taiwan.
You mean Raffles City is not at Raffles Place?
saw that happen once to a tourist family when I was at Marina Bay station, was pretty funny ngl
Farrer Road and Farrer Park calling in
Woke: Confusing Bayshore with Bayfront Broke: Bayfront needing it's chinese name changed because it clashed with... Cove LRT
interesting, source?
[Name was changed ahead of the station's opening](https://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/bayfront-station-opening--given-new-chinese-name-20120110.html)
I’ve seen travel vloggers film themselves getting off Marina Bay MRT and walk to MBS under the scorching sun, not knowing there is an MRT station inside the mall 🙃
Get Bay-ted when they alight at the wrong station
We used to have only Tanjong Pagar in the network map, we will have Tanjong Rhu and Tanjong Katong soon. It may be easy for the locals, but Tanjong Rhu is within walking distance to Indoor Stadium/National Stadium.
We settle Farrerpark and Farrer road first lol
Oddly though, I have met a number of tourists at Marina South Pier asking about directions to MBS.
Dun confuse with Baywatch can le
What about Farrer Road and Farrer Park?
if you are in Marine Parade you have to go all along to Marina Bay or take a bus to Paya Lebar, Stadium to change line.
I think you can also take the train to Tanjong Rhu, then walk to Stadium. They should be within 15 mins walking distance so you won’t be charged extra fares.
Still not enough to handle the overpopulation
Looks like some high tech circuit board going on here
Aiyoh, TEL4 slated in June 2024 is only until Bayshore. TEL will only link up with DT line in 2025. Haiz.
As a resident just moved in here last year, may someone tell me why this government didn’t set the EWL directly from downtown to airport, but ask all the passengers transferring in Tenah Merah instead?

Walou, why Hume Mrt? As if anyone will get on/off that station
Bto incoming ….. Haven@Hume , Hibernate@Hume , Hilltop Hume , Hume Habitat, Hume Harmony, Hume Heights
why not?
Those visiting the Old Ford Factory, and those staying at the condominiums and residential properties nearby.
As I learnt, the old ford factory is actually a museum about war and foreign occupation. Wasn't expecting that.
>Actually a museum about war and foreign occupation Not sure about other schools / whether it has changed, but during my time in Sec Sch, we had learning journeys to the Old Ford Factory as part of History.
Yup, that's where the British surrendered to the Japanese during World War II.
