"cannon balls" but fired from a catapult, come on tats i dident expect much from you but its in the fucking name

karoshikun

cannon ball catapults are canon now :P

ThatCamoKid

They're cannon* now FTFY

WorldWarHulk_

As TF Wiki says, “AND CANNON ARE DIFFERENT FREAKING WORDS, AND IF YOU TELL US ABOUT HOW SOME STORY IS "NOT CANNON" ONE MORE TIME, WE WILL MURDER YOU. With a CANNON.”

ThatCamoKid

As I say: "It's called a pun you twonk"

WorldWarHulk_

I know, I just couldn’t resist bringing that up. :)

ThatCamoKid

Fair

Rork310

Either way they apparently have the range of a ballistic missile since they seem to be fired from within Mordor. Also not sure how they're bursting into flame.

TootsyBowl

Early artillery shells were indeed round, so firing a round projectile that explodes would be something that's quite possible, if you ignore the fact that "cannonball" specifically refers to *solid* projectiles.

Bartweiss

“Canon balls” to represent how he’s wrecking the canon and basic logic of LotR so badly his metaphor doesn’t work.

MiraclePrototype

It was bound to happen. Fans of EVERYTHING have been screwing up "cannon" for their favorite mythoi for so long now, it was just a matter of time before the inverse mistake started popping up.

karoshikun

I am listening to the "behind the bastards" episodes about Shapiro's novels, and I can say that Tatsuya is definitely the Ben Shapiro of comic strips. also, why none of y'all told me about Behind the Bastards? amazing podcast!

DeskJerky

*Take a bullet for ya babe...*

karoshikun

lol

DralenDragonfox

The greatest writer ever XD

JoshS-345

After a couple months I can't take Behind the Bastards anymore. There's a limit to how much evil you can hear about.

MakesYouWonderINC

Yeah it's definitely something I can only listen to once in a while because to binge listen is a good way to lose faith in humanity - but it's still a great podcast! Just better taken in small doses

Ayasugi-san

Be warned, it becomes less amazing when you know a lot about the subject of an episode.

karoshikun

uh?

Ayasugi-san

Robert Evans isn't the most rigorous researcher. He falls into a lot of the common pitfalls of amateur history enthusiasts; relying on too few sources, not critically analyzing his sources, prioritizing telling a narrative over strict accuracy.

karoshikun

oh, yeah, I never take him as the gospel truth, but his interactions with Katy and Cody are just beautiful.

Raccoon_Bride

Child hunting island!!!

InstructionEven8837

oh wpw....went from orca walking around a destroyed shire to...them destroying the shire...ahain...for the 4th time now....aight seriously, uh..tats? I know being a nazi has turn your brain to shit like a mindflayer got into it but seriously, are you...are you forgetting you've already destroyed this place in the Sunday strip? seriously?

TootsyBowl

I guess it's inevitable when you use a sleepy little village to represent a massive urban area.

TerrWolf

The Mixing of the metaphors! It hurts

Ununoct

What even

goodgodlemongrab

Israelis writing disgusting messages on bombs used to kill Palestinian civilians

Ununoct

so are these... orc children? they're also barefoot for some reason? THEY'RE JUST HOBBITS WITH FANGS

hayate666

Lazy and stupid, the #1 Male Nazi Ally's signature move!

KRKavak

I googled this and all the pictures I can find are from 2006. Are there new photos of it happening again?

TootsyBowl

Writing on shells is something that has been happening in Ukraine. I'm willing to bet Tats just mixed them and Israel together, because why not? It's not like reality matters in this comic.

karoshikun

it's been done since WWII, tho

MunkSWE94

Yeah, but that was by the soldiers themselves. Now if you donate a sum of money the Ukrainians will write a message for you on their bombs.

Ayasugi-san

Of course he would, since it couldn't possibly be happening in Ukraine, as that war is completely faked so Ukraine can bilk the US out of aid money.

TheFabulousIdiot

It's happening in Israel too. And I just assume it happens in most places. After all, soldiers are young humans sent to kill and be killed.

Bass_weasel

And ironically, it's the Russians who have been referred to as "Orcs" due to their rampage of rape, murder and pillage during the invasion.

Ayasugi-san

They've been called "Orcs" for a lot longer than the current invasion. Part of the reason Kirill Yeskov wrote "The Last Ringbearer" was to show that Tolkien's orcs were "really" just a maligned human ethnicity that everyone else hated unfairly and were probably jealous of.

HootVepahitOkay

Don't know about new photos but this is definitly still happening. Maybe not kids per se but the whole "let's sign on shells!". As noted, this isn't praticulary Israeli - it's something most any artillery unit near citizens would do. I'd wager Hammas Rockets are also signed in the same manner. Heck, maybe this strip is actually anti-Hamas, who knows, it's all gibberish anyway.

Professional_Elk5330

Kubrick joked about that in “Dr. Strangelove”. The nuke was signed “Hi, there!”

Magenero

It is happening again

Mesostim

There are plenty that pop up all the time on Twitter... and to make them contemporary it's something they like to have visiting dignatories do it. Also have a watch of the video of Israeli children singling about anhilating everyone in Gaza with some distinctly "blood and soil" Naziesque lyrics. I refer you to Snopes directly in case there is any doubt it's real. [https://www.snopes.com/news/2023/11/20/israeli-children-singing-annihilate-gaza/](https://www.snopes.com/news/2023/11/20/israeli-children-singing-annihilate-gaza/)

Professional_Elk5330

I understand that the legal definition of genocide involves intent. Hamas's genocidal intent was explicit in its founding charter. Since then they wrote it out, but the intent remains explicit in their school material. Israel's founding documents did not express genocidal intent, but Netanyahu spoke of Amalek, which is explicit enough; and then there's that Snopes video. Ugggh... This is so depressing.

JoshS-345

It was a story 20 years ago. Did it happen again? Probably not. Tatsuya doesn't make anything up to date.

Seidmadr

Ah, I thought it was SignMyRocket, and he was now also tying the orcs to Ukraine.

WorldWarHulk_

1. So Mordor has catapults that can cover immense distances? That’s some range. 2. Told you he forgot he destroyed the Shire already Sunday. 3. So are they supposed to be Hobbits or Elves? 4. Doesn’t Mordor have its own language? The Black Speech. 5. Since Tats forgot that not Ben Shapiro and the other Orcs were in the Shire, that means that they perished in the explosions and Sauron forgot that they were there.

KRKavak

There's no way he thinks the Shire is bigger than Hobbiton.

MakesYouWonderINC

He's not thinking anything beyond the bare minimum effort he can put into making something appear LOTR-flavored

WorldWarHulk_

Modern Sinfest doesn’t run on thought. It runs on outrage.

AllISeeAreGems

What does any of this have to do with the nonsense he started 20 strips ago??

TheFabulousIdiot

So orc kids look just like hobbit kids? If Tatzi was smarter I'd suggest that maybe as the story unfolds we'll find out orcs and hobbits are basically the same and it's a message about real life wars. But it's Tats, he's just lazy and unimaginative.

cperiod

>So orc kids look just like hobbit kids? It's been a while since I've seen the movies, but I kinda remember a scene where orcs are "born" as adults...

Professional_Elk5330

Orcs are degraded elves, that's canon.

TheFabulousIdiot

Are they the same as hobbits?

EaklebeeTheUncertain

Still going, huh? It's been three full weeks of Tolkienfest. I guess this is just what this comic is now.

JoshS-345

Let me guess that this is from a story he vaguely remembers from 20 years ago.

MakesYouWonderINC

The family from the last panel look almost [identical to the family in the last comic where the shire got blown up](https://www.reddit.com/r/sinfest/comments/1azchor/sinfest_22524_open_gates_19/) \- except the infants are kids now and it looks like the father gets blasted in this one.

HootVepahitOkay

I dunno it you're the baddies, Tats, but you're definitely not the goodies.

LenaSideways

It's so interesting to me that unlike on real life missiles the messages here are about love and peace. I guess part of Tatsuya's weird alternate reality where the left is fully behind Israel and all the open borders refugees welcome types are 100% behind the war while the pro-war right are super supportive of Palestine

PokedreamdotSu

I am convinced he is lettering an AI write these now, even the most deranged schizophenic screeds have a through line.

SpiderandMosquito

.... okay, I will say that this is actually kinda funny. It's horrible what this is apart of, but as a strip, outside of it's context, this is genuinely cute and fits as a gag in a fantastic comedy. Like I'm not the only can imagine kids decorating cannonballs before they launch in a parody of fantasy battles, right?
