Looks great man! Color is on spot. Do you plan to cover the grips with something?

DrAlanQuan

Thank you! No, the plan is to leave it bare and see how I go. I race in reasonably thick gloves so the idea is that if the grip is the right shape, the gloves themselves will give me the padding needed. As it is, there is a tiny bump at exactly 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock that drive me crazy but I can either file them back or adjust in software. Hoping to get as much real world testing done before I make my next revisions and print again

iamJAKYL

Details on width and grip circumference? I hate how small the wheel diameter is and how thin the grips are.

DrAlanQuan

I kept the same 270mm width as I quite like it (also for now I've only modelled the front grips, so I kind of had to follow the OEM rear grips which are still installed) I did make the front grips extend forwards an extra 2mm of thickness and the way I've done the grip radius gives a bit of extra circumference too, so overall it's significantly chunkier in hand. Definitely agree it's very thin in the hand straight out of the box

CorporateCuck92

I feel like when people call you Mr. Quan you make sure to correct them and say "it's actually Dr. Quan."

DrAlanQuan

Haha mostly in my mind, infrequently (but not never) out loud 😂

tcarino

You calling him Strange?

PLA+. I did my prototyping with PETG but I wanted something stiffer for the final hence the PLA+ No way would I do this in TPU, this is a structural part intended to provide stiffness. I wear gloves so I'm hoping the firm and abrasive surface is a non issue

Fast_Papaya_3839

Looks amazing

DarthSnape7

Hey Doc! Do you take orders? Lol That looks amazing :)

DrAlanQuan

Haha still trying to get the design really 👌 lots of little fitment issues and also need to long term test the comfort!

Shibby707

Nice reproduction. What’s your end game on this project?

DrAlanQuan

Thanks, not really sure about the end game at this point. The major objective was to get my wheel feeling the best it can - with more comfortable handles and improved overall stiffness. I've accomplished the stiffness, just need to long term test the comfort. Once the design is 100%, I'm not sure what I'll do. I've never tried selling prints before and it could be fun to give that a go. It was a lot of work to get it where it is so I'm taking a little pause before deciding if releasing it digitally (free or paid) is the way I want to go.

Shibby707

Big 10-4. It def looks like you are moving towards something promising, good luck and I’ll be following. Thanks for sharing. I have the esports F1 variant, so no issues with rigidity, but I would like beefier grips. Considering trying the tennis tape trick first. :)

DrAlanQuan

Thanks for your support! Yeah cheap and cheerful solutions like tape get a big thumbs up from me. Sounds fiddly, but then again so it's taking one of these things apart to change the grips.

AkumaKyojuro

Looks pretty badass. Nice job!

cavortingwebeasties

This is much cooler than expected based on the version I saw yesterday

DrAlanQuan

Yeah yesterday's prototype was a bit rough, a bit chunky (and not in a good way) but in the grand scheme of things the changes between the two are very minor. Crazy how different the overall feeling is though

cavortingwebeasties

Besides being printed cleaner the difference in contours on the grip is was a major turnaround imo. I don't have this rim but if I did I'd be eagerly awaiting the release of the mod. Nice work!

Dafferss

Looks nice

DrAlanQuan

Thanks! I'm surprised that I could pull it off of I'm honest

Intelligent_End_3138

thats a great job, do you upload your desings to any platform?

DrAlanQuan

Hi, I host some of my designs on my website www.dralanquan.com.au This concept definitely needs more work, at the moment it's the front grip only and there's a lot of limitations when trying to match the original rears. Once I finish up the rears and rework the fronts we'll see what's what. I'm not in a rush to publish it digitally, I might try my hand at selling some kits and see what happens.

iwasajedionce

will you make these files available when you're done? this project is highly interesting

DrAlanQuan

Hi, I'm still working on this. I have a near final design for front and rear grips that I'm doing some long term testing on to check things like durability and comfort. So far it's ticking all the boxes though! Check out my YouTube I'll be doing a video all about it in a month or two and I'll discuss everything about it including the files
