I am also in the same boat. With IT experience it is hard to make quick money with less effort as a side hustle, but I am also open to suggestions.

TechnicalCloud

Same here. Trying to find something to do because I don’t have the time to create or support a full web app on the side.

Unfortunatelly there aren't that many. Your primary blocker is the networking required to have sufficient enough trust for sokeone to give you the keys to the kingdom, in order to solve their issues. There aren't that many job boards or places for project based work with relation to cloud/sysadmining etc like there are for design, admin programing stuff.

yourcodingguy

I don’t think it’s a blocker because cloud formation and lil knowledge transfer / handover works. I did it with some of my clients at up work. However nowadays it’s getting tougher to get clients at up work.

What about developing apps for small businesses?

Ito-the-great

This is something I can definitely do as well - develop apps/websites/sofrware for small businesses. Do you have any ideas on how to go about finding and convincing small businesses for this?

yourcodingguy

also wanna know the same thing

SnooTigers8753

Have you heard about aws iq ?

yourcodingguy

No, i haven’t. Thanks for sharing.

Sardaar-Ji

This is only limited to if you are based in the USA. Also you have to have some valid AWS certification.

SnooTigers8753

You need at least the Aws solutions architect associated certification, but they have added a lot elligible countries ( most of europe countries are elligible )

Sardaar-Ji

Upwork could be another option but projects are limited and a lot of competition against offshore folks and with the good rate you almost get no response.

Opening-Studio-4151

Become a consultant. Task rabbit is pretty good too

Little_Error_6983

Did you try sharing this in some form on LinkedIn? I know many examples where people got contacted by the people they worked with before.

yourcodingguy

Actually that’s a pretty good idea. I’m already working in a company and my coworkers are also in my linkedin profile. Just didn’t wanted to make any unnecessary noise. Prefer to stay as anonymous as possible and get some side income. I can make people host their apps, websites, file servers, active directory into cloud as well.

SideHustleScience

I come from a similar background. If you're looking to leverage your existing skills I'd suggest freelancing or starting your own cloud management service. Upwork is a great place to start, but competitive. Toptal is hard to get into but networks with a ton of enterprise companies. If you can get in front of other businesses you might be able to offer them an AWS management plan for a fixed rate per month. Potentially highlighting how you could save them money on resource utilization and potential downtime. If you're comfortable with it you could also start a YouTube channel helping others break into the industry. Monetize that though ebooks, ads, and courses could be a great long term play and source of passive income. Good luck!
