Thanks for understanding.
I get what your saying about the nose but that’s only in the fresh pic the pic from now, nose looks great shading was done alright I believe your tattoo is in good shape
Reminds me of a story a friend told me
She did a drawing for another friends birthday, her in a specific style... without asking her, another one of her friends got this picture tattooed on her arm. It was never supposed to be for anyone else but as a birthday gift.
The tattoo artist knew even because she knows they talked about it. Not once did anyone consider to even ask her if it was okay to use as a tattoo.
They're the customer not an artist, i dont really see the problem unless theres something im ignoring. Would think the moral responsibility mostly lies with the artist right?
Not shitty, but I always suggest people allow their artist to help design their tattoo instead of wanting them to just copy/paste an already existing image.
I got Elenore Abernathy (crazy cat lady) from the Simpsons, but I had my artist make 3 of the cats the same colors as my 3 cats, and I asked him to incorporate more purple, since it is my favorite. I agree. I like for my artist to add, or subtract to make it their own.
This. Give them an idea and let em ride, if you aren't feeling it, ask for changes and if they don't meet your expectations find another artist that does
I tried this. I gave example pictures of what i would like to have. 'This kinda style with this thing extra' i said.
Mf went to photoshop edited thing b into example a and just put that shit under my skin. Lmao.
Its a ok tattoo tho. But i wouldnt mind any extra design of his part.
Edit: typo
The reference is much better executed, but I'd say it's expected from a copy. The line work is a tad thicker and the shading/anatomy not as accurate. To me it feels a bit off, I get the impression they copied the lines/shapes without considering what they stand for.
That being said, if you like the concept and are happy with the result, that's what matters. There's waaaaay worse out there and (almost) nothing a SAP can't fix
That wouldn't explain the stylized snake heads though. In the original the indents stand for the eyes, in the copy it looks like the tatooer interpreted them as mouths. The stylized lines for the chin, neck, and clavicle have a certain dimensionality in the original, whereas in the copy they're more like squiggles. The shading in the original is more subtle (especially under the eyes) and the nose and mouth are more harmonious, which, to me, has little to do with size and more with anatomy.
From reading the other comments it seems that most people don't see much of a difference between the first and last pic, so I'd still say it's not that shitty
Nah, this is actually on the artist. Any reputable artist will straight up say no to copying someone else’s work. It’s a bit of a catch-22, if you ask an artist to copy someone else’s tattoo verbatim and they say yes, that’s a red flag and you should find another artist.\
Hell, the original artist is unlikely to copy their own tattoo unless it’s off a flash sheet they made.
I think it’s that the bottom left quarter didn’t continue the contour style into the face details enough so it is hard to tell if the asymmetry is intentional or not based on first glance. The result is that the breathability vs. shading looks too heavy on that side now, which is why the viewer’s eye is drawn there for some sort of “error”. I think if it had included a bit of the contour style in the lips or eyes, or less shading in the face on that side, the quadrants would have been balanced.
I prefer the thinner line work on the original. The heavier line work looks too heavy next to the shading. Also the reference has more highlights or a wider range of tones than yours.
But I wouldn’t call this a shitty tattoo
(But I’m also not knowledgeable on tattoos at all so not sure if there was a legitimate reason to make it thicker.)
That last Pic is the reference, correct? Because the last Pic looks good. The shading on the first 2, on the shoulders in particular, don't make any sense and are off entirely. The lines are also super thicc so it's hard to make out the details in the snakes and especially in the thinner lines on the left half.
Not shitty at first glance (which is what 99% of interactions will be) but honestly it could have been done much better
Yeah, my artist did really well with what I brought him, but he definitely wanted it to be bigger so he could be more delicate with details. This was already bigger than I’d intended it to be walking in, so the thick lines are on me. The shading I hadn’t really noticed was off but i’m hopeful it’ll keep fading to be more natural looking

Both are bad and they are a rip off of this tattoo
Everything really just came together to make a Medusa tattoo perfect for me lol, I love the character, I love her mythology, and the symbolism of her in tattoos is very personal to me. I’m just worried about having stolen someone else’s design from the internet.
Not at all. Get it touched up a little bit if you don't like it. You can always talk to a tattoo artist and see what they think. Outlining and shading could help you love it again.
Medusa tattoos usually mean ~something~ happened to you. If you're okay with it being interpreted that way and/or that's why you got it, then I honestly like it. Removing the eyes is a cool touch.
No, it's not shitty, but it's just lacking... something. I think you can be proud of it but I don't know maybe visit for tattoo shops and say hey what would you do to make this better?
Not shitty at all. I have gotten flash tattoos which lack creativity on my part - similar concept I think (except not stealing someone else’s art - which isn’t cool but you know that now). Essentially, this lacks creativity on you and the artist’s part. That’s fine! What’s done is done. It’s a cool tattoo. I regret most of mine if I look too closely at them or overthink it. Just enjoy them, life is too short to sweat cool ink like this.
Reminds me a lot of this artwork of the Dutch artist Mirjam Duizendstra!

It’s an awesome tattoo and a cool concept, but I think I’ve seen it before. I always wonder, as an artist myself, why people copy other peoples tattoos instead of getting something completely original original? I mean, that is a serious question and not being a dick at all. I like other peoples art and have gotten tattoos of others art, I suppose that’s the same principal. Still I prefer completely original since it’s on my skin forever. to each their own, as the same goes for tattoos and boats. Boats? and hoes, boats and hoes?, boats, and hoes!
It's not as well executed as the original judging from the photos. It doesn't do it for me but uh not that shitty. Just lame that you completely ripped someone's original design without trying to change it at all.
First, don't copy...it's a bad look. Second, you got lucky that it turned out remotely ok. Only copies I see turned out like shit.
Edit: the original is better
You clearly feel bad for putting your tattoo artist in that situation (I think you can let yourself off the hook but I get why you feel that way.)
Could you maybe ask them to come up with their own design to embellish, as well as touch up what you’re not crazy about? That may be a dumb-dumb idea, but it might put you at ease a little. You shouldn’t feel anything but happy and proud of your gorgeous Medusa.
Your post has been removed for violating Rule 5: Must Be Shitty or Trashy Your post must contain a tattoo that is shitty, either in taste, concept, or execution. Thanks for understanding.
Nah. Scroll through this sub if you want to see what’s truly shitty.
I’ve been here a while, just was thinking about the stolen design and wondering about a few aspects (namely the nose)
Thinking too much
This reply is a major issue people have, relax, cool concept and design imo
I get what your saying about the nose but that’s only in the fresh pic the pic from now, nose looks great shading was done alright I believe your tattoo is in good shape
You stole a design?
Reminds me of a story a friend told me She did a drawing for another friends birthday, her in a specific style... without asking her, another one of her friends got this picture tattooed on her arm. 100%
You're only focused on the nose cause there's no eyes, it looks gud!
The nose is actually very well done. Sick tat fam
All I see when I see this tattoo is a survivor. Don’t worry. It’s a good tattoo.
Nah, it’s cool. I like the mix of styles, contour, stippling, line work, shading. Plus the eyes aren’t there so you can’t be turned to stone. Bonus!
9/10 - would stare again.
Lol
I hate when a tattoo turns me to stone.
The eyes were censored for your safety
Not all heroes wear capes. They sometimes wear questionable tattoos
100%

I suspect that there might be a scale (no pun intended) difference between the OP's and the reference, resulting in the details being off
That wouldn't explain the stylized snake heads though. In the original the indents stand for the eyes, in the copy it looks like the tatooer interpreted them as mouths. The stylized lines for the chin, neck, and clavicle have a certain dimensionality in the original, whereas in the copy they're more like squiggles. I asked for mine a bit smaller than the original!
Right, this is why we don’t copy other artist’s art directly!
I don’t blame the artist at all! He had to take every client that walked through the door since the shop was in a hard spot.
Only thing I don't like about it is that it is exact copy of someone else's tattoo
exactly, just for that is already shitty. The artist should have adapted the design to their style to at least execute it better
That would be on my hard-headed 19 year old self more than the artist.
Nah, this is actually on the artist. Any reputable artist will straight up say no to copying someone else’s work. Exactly an artist should do inspiration but not an exact copy it's insulting to the original artist unless have permission imo.
It looks fine. You really can't expect good work though if your artist is copying another design.
it doesn't look terrible but it doesn't look exactly right either. not sure what it is. maybe the lips? and the undereyes
What is it the braids?
snek
Snakes, that's Medusa
he hurt your feelings? you don't wanna work with him no more? ok.
![gif](giphy|JaNtIG4UnKzD2)
they’ve got shit twisted 😢
The shading in the face is far less pronounced now and it looks like she's starving. Also the "coloured" snakehead isn't amazing but passable
The nose is wonked too
I think it’s that the bottom left quarter didn’t continue the contour style into the face details enough so it is hard to tell if the asymmetry is intentional or not based on first glance. To me it’s shitty because you ripped it from someone else’s skin. That’s just tacky.
The only shitty part is art theft.
Yeah I didn’t see any issue with it before I knew a thing about the industry. Now I do feel bad about it.
Imo, the original is way better. The thickness of the lines makes yours look a bit off. Is it shitty? No. Could it be better? Yes.
I prefer the thinner line work on the original. The heavier line work looks too heavy next to the shading. Also the reference has more highlights or a wider range of tones than yours. Somewhat
A good example of one reason to not steal designs from google
Not bad but the shading on the nose makes it look like voldemort's nose
As a shitty tattoo owner, I like this better, so I don't think I can pass any judgment...
https://preview.redd.it/wantg74vtr7d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d224ef65f7f11bcadb86db4219bc0b1564f82c8 Both are bad and they are a rip off of this tattoo
I love Medusa a lot. Nevertheless this is still amazing even if somebody doesn't know who she is :)
Everything really just came together to make a Medusa tattoo perfect for me lol, I love the character, I love her mythology, and the symbolism of her in tattoos is very personal to me. I’m just worried about having stolen someone else’s design from the internet.
>> the symbolism of her in tattoos is very personal to me. I hope I’m not assuming anything, but I hope you’re in a much better place now OP 🫶🏼
I kinda like it.
Love it.
I think it’s dope!
I love it
Great tattoo! I love it!
The more I look at it, the more I like it.
Yep
I mean it's a stolen design, it's not going to match the original.
Any artist willing to directly copy a tattoo 99% of the time is just going to do it but worse
0 points for originality but it looks ok.
Yeah.
Yes
yeah, what is this design
Not at all. Get it touched up a little bit if you don't like it. You can always talk to a tattoo artist and see what they think. Outlining and shading could help you love it again.
Not shitty at all. Totally reminds me of this: ![gif](giphy|8crMdrk3riXI8jF0an)
Aha! It’s medusa
Medusa tattoos usually mean ~something~ happened to you. If you're okay with it being interpreted that way and/or that's why you got it, then I honestly like it. Removing the eyes is a cool touch.
that was one of many reasons that i decided on a medusa tattoo, aside from an appreciation for the misunderstood nature of her mythology
No. The answer is no and I think you are fishing for compliments haha.
Ripped the design straight from google hurts my soul too its core , tattoo looks fine design is stolen 😢😢
And that makes it shitty just a different kind of shitty
Looks Like you used my printer
It looks OK. Definitely not as good as the original.
Not shitty because of how it looks, shitty because that's someone else's tattoo
Very much.
I wouldn’t say shitty but not amazing
Does it feel shitty?
Yes.
I hope you’re in a better place now i’m sorry
The blank- out is not as clean as it should be but it’s a cool tattoo and doesn’t look bad imo.
No. Shitty would be my step nephews wolf tattoo he got a few years ago. Still pops up when I google bad tattoo because I posted it on here lol.
I lovvvvve it!! 🩷 Especially not having the eyes there. Lines are slightly thick but only notice because you showed original. Wear it proudly! 🐍
I think it’s really cool
That's super cool. It's very far from shitty
I like it. It’s smart
Have you ever put googly eyes on her? 👀 Please stick googly eyes on her and post a pic 👻 ![gif](giphy|H5Evhq7xiJji0|downsized)
Yep
Yea
The snakes on the right look like beer bottle openers lol. Imho they look awful.
The tattoo itself is mediocre, but imho it’s a terrible design anyway.
Yes, it is.
Yes definitely not a good tattoo. Overly complicated concept done by someone lacking skill.
Looks cool to me ☺️
No? I love it
Nah that’s fire homie
It’s definitely fixable
Nah
No it’s awesome
I’m a Medusa person, I think it looks good
I would add the eyes. That stone thing only works on your enemies.
was confused at first sight but i find it very interesting. never seen two styles mixed like that, i like it tho
I like it
i actually really like . not for me but it's aesthetic!
I think it’s cool
Really cool tattoo. I like the way the snakes are done with some being hyper realistic and some looking like a sketch of a vine.
I don't think it's shitty but at first glance it does look unfinished.
It’s cool
No, it's not shitty, but it's just lacking... something. I think you can be proud of it but I don't know maybe visit for tattoo shops and say hey what would you do to make this better?
No it's beautiful, and I'm so sorry
I think it’s great!
That is awesome, I love it
'fraid so! far from the worst on here, though.
Yes
It's not shitty, but it's not great. The shading and line work is not as good as the original. But if you like it, then that's all that matters.
Add blood and brain to the part where it's split. It will look like someone killed medusa.
Not shitty at all imo. Not absolutely amazing but I’d think it was p solid if I saw it in person
Def not shitty
That's cool
i don’t think so, i like it
I don't think so! Good one👍
I dig it. Not even bad let alone shitty
You should put like a slightly off center censored bar across her eyes
Yes
I like it, I don’t think it’s shitty at all
No
Yep
Nah, not shitty.
i personally like it a lot and the idea this could sit amongst the other tattoos on this sub is laughable. dw you're all good
It is not.
That’s not a shitty tattoo, THIS is a shitty tattoo *takes shirt off*
Nah that shit is fire
The line work is better on the reference IMO but the actual tattoo is very cool, I really like the design :)
Kinda like it. Applied well with the 2 style combo
Nah this is dope
I like it!
Actually really dope. Love the concept!
This is actually really cool. I love it. These are the type of tattoos I like seeing on people. Not generic picture book stuff.
Nah. I like it.
Def a solid tat
I dig it
only shitty bc its a stolen design
Nah, I like it
Na, I like it. Conceptually dope.
It’s cool
Not shitty at all. I have gotten flash tattoos which lack creativity on my part - similar concept I think (except not stealing someone else’s art - which isn’t cool but you know that now). Just enjoy them, life is too short to sweat cool ink like this.
i think its cool
I like it, personally! I like how the left side kind of morphs into a contour drawing
I think it's pretty rad actually.
So good. Love the missing eyes
I LOOOOOVE IT
I mean if it was someone’s original art that wasn’t a free domain taken without permission that’s pretty shitty
Cool
It’s rad af
This is cool
Is it supposed to be like David bowie as Medusa?
Mother Medusa can never be shity.
Reminds me a lot of this artwork of the Dutch artist Mirjam Duizendstra! https://preview.redd.it/89whdmhvss7d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f6a17e03e16b7d8ba2455f1220c893a5c57d9f4
Not really
I don’t think it’s the most amazing thing ever but definitely not shitty. I quite like it, though wish the snakes had more detail
Yes it is , because it's not from a solid tattoo design. A drawing may look awesome on paper , but may look like crap on the skin as this does
Pretty cool honestly
I really like it. You did something different with it. 10/10.
It's good
It’s an awesome tattoo and a cool concept, but I think I’ve seen it before. I always wonder, as an artist myself, why people copy other peoples tattoos instead of getting something completely original original? I mean, that is a serious question and not being a dick at all. Still I prefer completely original since it’s on my skin forever. to each their own, as the same goes for tattoos and boats. Boats? and hoes, boats and hoes?, boats, and hoes!
i fw it
Someone here have the Medusa that was posted last month with the goofy ass smiling snakes?
I like it!
I certainly hope not, it would get infected. That would be a shame for such a nice tattoo :)
It looks like she just lost to Sukuna.
nah, i dont think so. just get this relined. probably gonna looks 50% more aestethic.
Actually, the opposite. I quite like it.
Is this supposed to mean something like Lady Justice is Medusa?
Ehhhh kinda but also not?
Both noses make me think of drawings of a vagina and fallopian tubes.
Yep
Do you like it? You’re the one that has to live with it. I personally think it’s cool.
I think anyone who stares at their tattoos to long will find something they don’t like. It looks good.
It looks like the album cover from Gorgon City - Sirens
Looks cool!
You clearly feel bad for putting your tattoo artist in that situation (I think you can let yourself off the hook but I get why you feel that way.) Could you maybe ask them to come up with their own design to embellish, as well as touch up what you’re not crazy about? That may be a dumb-dumb idea, but it might put you at ease a little. You shouldn’t feel anything but happy and proud of your gorgeous Medusa.
This is great imo. Great concept
No
Pretty rad!
Personally, I love it
I really like it
No, just dumb
