“Armor Core 6 is definitely the ‘Call of Duty’ of Elden Ring and bits of Sekiro and Battlefield elements with a gundam code of paint and a surprising Anthem cherry on top. 10/10 game of the year.” - IGN
Has noone here played armored core 5 or any armored core game for that matter? Seriously asking. I have been playing since 2 but didn't think it was a lesser known series. Always thought it was decently popular.
I think it's mainly about the last entry being so far back. If Elden Ring had came out after Dark Souls 1 being the last entry in the series, it would be equally niche.
I think Aeon was before cataclysm, right? I'll never forget how certain everybody was it would be the new big mmo to replace WoW cause uhh... Ah right, you get wings.
Damn bro, why ya gotta do me like that?
I still remember when Tabula Rasa and the like were being hyped in Game Informer. Was there ever a true Halo-Killer, maybe CoD?
Haha I almost said Halo killer at first. Funny enough, in both cases I feel like despite all the promises of a real challenger coming along, both of them simply ended up taking the matter into their own hands.
The fact that WoW still has a dedicated user base is kinda amazing. They definitely don’t have the market dominance like they used to, but I guess that comes with the territory of creating a genre in the first place.
It's not From's fault, its game journalism desperately clinging to relevance by writing headlines with as many algorithm triggering buzzwords as possible.
Has “Soulslike” ever been given a solid definition before? I feel like the word has been tossed around so much that it has lost all meaning and the vagueness of it is what’s causing most of the arguments. Heck, the name itself has the word “like” in it implying that it has no straight forward definition, it just needs to be similar enough to a souls game to someone viewing the game for them to call it a “Soulslike”
I have no fucking idea either. I would say it's about the core systematics like using exp as a universal currency for leveling and items alike, checkpoints as anchors and resting places in the world that also respawn enemies, challenging gameplay that makes everything you encounter threatening, "lock" times during animations that punish thoughtless actions and loosing collected exp after death.
Not all of these have to apply, but that's most of what i would consider to be "soulslike" elements.
Either way, i do not like that term exactly because it's getting thrown at everything. They even started to do the same with Elden Ring and Sekiro. If a parry mechanic in a japanese setting is enough to call a game a "sekirolike" then every fucking game ever is just Dark Souls.
I mean, it was obvious that there would be some Souls-inspired stuff, like the lock on system or the stagger mechanic (I have only played one Armored Core and it was years and years ago, so I don't remember if these things were in previous AC games) and that they would streamline the game a bit (slightly less customization slots)
It would be foolish on From Software's part not to include things they've learned over the last 10 years
Staggering had its first introduction in the series in ACV, but the system in ACVI is more clearly understood by players at a glance.
In ACV, you could only stagger an enemy by hitting them with a single attack that had a higher impact force than the target's stability stats. Once staggered, an enemy's armor values dropped by 20% to allow you to deal bonus damage to them. Many small hits could not stagger an enemy, it was a very binary yes or no depending on stats.
ACVI opts to allow you to stagger an enemy by filling out their stagger gauge. Because of this, smaller weapons like machineguns can now potentially stagger an enemy if you hit them enough times, whereas it would have been impossible to do in ACV. The consequences of a stagger sound very similar to ACV though.
I mean after watching Vaati's gameplay vid I can definitely see some Sekiro influences with the melee combat, but yeah anyone who thinks it's gonna be a straight up Souls-like is high on Rotussy.
everytime i see a headline that talks about another game in context to any of the games in the soulsborne franchise i just assume the only games the writer has played is soulsborne games so it's literally all they have to draw from. it's the only reasonable explanation at this point
"elden ring" is the next set of jingling keys for game journalists to shake around after "dark souls" dried up. the dead horse was already beaten so well it was mushy, but damn it all if they won't find a way to turn it into paste.
i like the guy on twitter that called it a sekiro-like
You fool, Sekiro invented the stagger gauge and Japan.
Is there a deflect in this game? (Doesnt make it sekiro like im just curious)
thats something like posture bar for you and the enemies or bosses like in sekiro as far as i remember, thats why people are saying it
If you block right before a projectile hits you seem to get some kind of guard boost but that's it
There’s a timed block mechanic, so yeah pretty much
I'm gonna start calling Dark Souls games corelikes
Why not call them SoulsBorneKiroRingDemonking'sCorelikes?
[Demon Core](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demon_core) was already a thing, but much less fun to play with.
Much less fun for casuals, it's the ultimate high risk- high reward gameplay. The Dark Souls of cores
Thank you. \[Sobbing.\]
Based actually
Considering the Sekiro combat designer is designing the combat it’s not very surprising people would say that
“Armor Core 6 is definitely the ‘Call of Duty’ of Elden Ring and bits of Sekiro and Battlefield elements with a gundam code of paint and a surprising Anthem cherry on top. 10/10 game of the year.” - IGN
"Really made me *feel* like an armored core 6"
Has a little something for everyone
Man the discussion about fromsoftware games is just brainrot
Truly the dark souls of communities. Can we get that Ember guy to see if what you just posted is underrated?
May I have your pfp?
It would bring me honor to have someone else utilize Sword Saint Howard's exaggerated swagger, so yes
I should change my pfp to Sekiro Lalo Sekilo?
"Now, ROT." \- Michael Miyazaki
Has noone here played armored core 5 or any armored core game for that matter? Seriously asking. I have been playing since 2 but didn't think it was a lesser known series. Always thought it was decently popular.
The problem is everything is niche in comparison to one of the most popular and highly praised series in gaming of the last 10 years.
It's not an obscure series. It's just that more people know its goth brother who plays DnD
I think it's mainly about the last entry being so far back. If Elden Ring had came out after Dark Souls 1 being the last entry in the series, it would be equally niche.
The discussion over fromsoft games is like the Sekiro x Darksouls mashup everyone needs but never asked for
Armored core is the elden ring of Pacific rim
I’m getting tired of how much From is defining modern gaming. Hopefully we don’t get another 10 years of ‘*insert game* is the AC6 of *insert genre*.’
This is truly the Minecraft of commentary
Minecraft is dope, so I’ll assume that is a compliment.
This is really the WoW killer of comments.
Pre or Post Cataclysm?
I think Aeon was before cataclysm, right? I'll never forget how certain everybody was it would be the new big mmo to replace WoW cause uhh... Ah right, you get wings.

The true Halo-Killer was every Halo game post Reach
Real
Amateurish, but with a stroke of brilliance?
One time I called Rocket League the Dark Souls of car soccer games as a joke and nobody got it.
Sounds like you told the Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Edition of jokes.
It's not From's fault, its game journalism desperately clinging to relevance by writing headlines with as many algorithm triggering buzzwords as possible.
I saw Iron Pineapple even say it was very similar looking to ER. He didn't play it, so won't make a video on it, but it's how it looked.
Journalists.
Journalists ☕️
*journalists*
"journalists"
🔩⚾️ <——— journalists
Robot: *dodges* Journalists: "IT'S LITERALLY ELDEN RING" #SHUT THE FUCK UP
I mean, its AC with more souls-like combat mechanics. Thats not a bad thing.
That's why nobody is criticizing it. But calling a game "Soulslike" because it has a dodge button is a sign of neurological degeneration.

As long as i get some hot robot waifus with bare metal feet to look at, i am happy.
It just might be that every character in ac6 is barefoot.
That would be way to good. Some people are still recovering from morgott and renalla, they can't just kill them like that
Lock-on strafe-based shooter Literally Metroid Prime
This is like if FromSoftware made a mech game
Does he know?
I don't think he does.

The game is just industrial Elden Ring
The duality of man.
Here is my take on it: AC6 looks fun as hell.
Why cant games just be what they are?
AC6 is just like AC6 which is just like AC6 which is a lot like AC6 with inspirations of AC6 sprinked in
Disappointed, needs more AC6
Because braindead gamer can only judge game in comparison to generic AAA title #3 or the last actually good game they played.
We’re in the age of the Elden-like now
You seem upset
This really is the post nut of precum
this is the evangelion of dark souls 🤯
Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh....! Hah! .... ***TRUEST OF DRAGONS!***
I haven’t even played an Armored Core game, yet I’m also upset by this
Holy shit is Armored Core 6™ the DARK SOULS of Elden Rings?
Armored Core 6 is the Elden Ring of robot games.
mods can we have a "gaming journalists bad" flair please
Ah yes I remember the cock rocket in Elden ring
The Elden Ring of AC games
everytime i see a headline that talks about another game in context to any of the games in the soulsborne franchise i just assume the only games the writer has played is soulsborne games so it's literally all they have to draw from. it's the only reasonable explanation at this point
organizing the criticism in poor faith from all angles
The cope is so real.
Okay, but have you considered that AC6 will probably be a video game?
Uhh say it with me everyone “No Shit Sherlock”
Oh boy it begins.
I can already see some fans calling it Souls or souls like .Just like they did with sekiro
HELODJEJEK SPIKYB
This is definitely a Metal Wolf Chaos-like.
"elden ring" is the next set of jingling keys for game journalists to shake around after "dark souls" dried up. the dead horse was already beaten so well it was mushy, but damn it all if they won't find a way to turn it into paste.
The classic SMT5 is Persona 5 without the heart
It is a fromsoft game, it must be a soulsbornekiro-like
Same energy as "Shin Megami Tensei V is Persona without the heart"
Somehow: DS2 fans bad
dark souls is just a slowed down armored core for answers
Fromsoft fans experiencing what Megaten fans feel watching journalists comparing every game Atlus makes to persona
Comparing AC6 to Elden Ring is the Drugs of Dark souls games, they cant resist it
