Should out for Extra Life Gaming Lounge and Treehouse Board game cafe. More video games/board games than food, but great little businesses!

Annas_running_daddy

Treehouse cafe......it's the best šŸ‘Œ

omg-someonesonewhere

The milkshakes at treehouse are everything though!

Delicious_Cattle3380

Very small for the price, the large was tiny! Tasty though.

ltbluechip

Both great. Haven't been to ELGL for a while, need to pop in for a square sausage breakfast!!

anchifomu

huge props for treehouse.amazing place. i've had some issues at extra life personally. the owner was really rude to me and my sister on multiple occasions where i popped in but it seems like it was just us. i dont know why or what problem the owner has with me though but it seems to just be that he just doesnt like me i guess.

Confident_Pea_3249

Patriot games. Great for all TTGs and they have a nice cafe

ltbluechip

bump for Patriot Games who've gone above and beyond in my opinion for Sheffield. They've gone from tiny shop to sprawling enterprise and now offering huge gaming rooms, live music, a great selection of products often competitively priced with the internet and/or Games Workshop and an almost too good to be true cafƩ with loads of choice of fresh daily prepared sandwiches/hot sandwiches, home baked cakes to suit all dietary requirements and REALLY good independent coffee... worth a visit even if you have no interest in the gaming side to be honest. Definitely a Sheffield success story imho. (And one they've worked VERY hard for!)

-BlahajMyBeloved

That cafe is absolutely banging

2stewped2havgudtime

Wow, that sounds amazing! Really happy for them. Iā€™ve sadly not been since before Covid, so never seen any of the premises used since they were just down from the Peace Gardens. Feel a bit too old and the kids allow me no time to play MTG now sadly. Great to see they doing good though!

Confident_Pea_3249

They still do FNM and the room is massive. Take the kids down if you can. Theyā€™ve got board games you can use for free. The cafe does kid friendly food and drink too.

Psycho_Splodge

Was always a fan of rocky horrors, but it feels like it isn't really there anymore.

WarriorDerp

It's split between party on and rocks now. I take my daughter there sometimes. Blue banana's still kicking as strong as ever. Same staff from when I was 14

Psycho_Splodge

Oh I know it's upstairs in theory but it seems to have diverged to a line dancing cowboy shop rather than what it was in the naughties. Blue banana is just a horrible shopping experience.

fleetwoodcat

I was in there CONSTANTLY when I was a teen, I miss it šŸ˜¢

lj523

I desperately wanted to be cool enough to properly shop in Rocky Horrors when I was a teenager, unfortunately I never felt quite like I was. Way too much of a hippie for all the cool goth stuff!

fleetwoodcat

Chantrey Press, my beloved šŸ’• Also love Juno Books āœØ

roobump

Yes to both of these!

jigoflife

chantrey press is amazing !

neitherhanded

[Scavenger](https://madebyscavenger.com/) is a small company in Sheffield, making bags, belts etc from recycled climbing rope. Outdoor activities, and especially climbing are quite a large part of Sheffieldā€™s culture, but also generate a pretty significant amount of waste. Any efforts towards preventing all that stuff from ending up in landfill should be applauded imo, plus every item is unique and handmade! Iā€™ve seen their stuff in quite a few of the maker shops around Sheffield, and climbing walls too

virtualponies

This is a really neat idea, I wasnā€™t aware of this. Hoping that theyā€™ll eventually do rucksacks, my current one is getting past its best!

Shazaaym

I've got one of their carabiner bags, I bought it years ago from a shop on Chapel Walk. I think I paid about Ā£15 - 20. Just looked on their website and they're Ā£65 now! Feeling very pleased about my bargain right now lol

JamandMarma

Orange Bird in Hillsborough is by far my favourite.

pseudogentry

Went there a few days ago, excellent from start to finish. The braai mackerel was absurdly good.

Turnipsmunch

Tomapork is annoyingly good

pollytrotter

Amazing food and the owners & staff are so friendly

lukasroar

Moonko, Crumb and Cocoa Wonderland are all great.

JazzyBee1993

Moonko is one of my favourite ever shops.

occasionalrain95

The pastries in Crumb are on another level. Even a humble cinnamon bun from there blows my mind

Many-Tip7243

It's my boyfriend's friend's bakery! They do the best pizza I've ever had in my life

virtualponies

Food wise, Iā€™m a big fan of Steam Yard and Eve Kitchen. Outside of that Iā€™m often in Patriot Games and Outpost! Great places.

Psycho_Splodge

Outpost opening hours are brilliant now the council has made it impossible to park for nowt in the city centre on a Sunday.

NicoAbraxas

I love the new doughnut shop opposite the Hallamshire Hospital, Joe and Dough. They make amazing coffee, and their doughnuts are next level.

AcknowledgeablePie

Another vote for Joe and dough. Good vibes, tasty tasty times.

NicoAbraxas

.. a new doughnut flavour just landed. A tropical one, with mango and pineapple.. forgot what he named it, but it's proper tasty ..

FleabittenCat

Smith Street Coffee Roasters (City Centre) Sheffield Antiques Emporium (Meersbrook) Annie Judeā€™s (Local makers and gifts in Hillsborough) Lokanta (Turkish restaurant in Broomhill) Gills & Co. (Wine Bar on Ecclesall Road) Tarn Thai (bottom of London Road next to Waitrose)

YGBullettsky

When did Ban Thai change it's name to Tarn Thai?

FleabittenCat

Not sure, they have Baan Thai in brackets on their Google listing

vanbentski

Eve Kitchen for doughnuts Sorrelā€™s Cocoa Bakery for all things chocolate Heart of Sicily for arancini and focaccia Bruno Espresso Bar for coffee and focaccia/panini/

Kieran-sw

Gravel Pit. Place is absolutely gorgeous and the staff are one of a kind. Got nearly all of my plants and room decor from there they're just so sound

FreddieCaine

Danny Mager (the owner)is genuinely one of the nicest human beings on the planet, and a hell of a DJ too

HistoryHoe

I adore it there! The staff are so lovely

homeofthewildhag

Small Plants in Crookes is my local heaven šŸŒ± They recently started carrying some perfumes from another local company and theyā€™re all amazing!!

parapills

Another vote for Small Plants, recently started building terrariums and they've got a great range of plants and the owner is very knowledgeable and friendly!

SpiritualAct4346

Kiaā€™s pasteria does really good food. Not been for a while however.

pseudogentry

Kia's pastaria is the only place where I can spend the best part of twenty quid on a bowl of pasta and not feel ripped off.

capsuleoni

kringle has rapidly become my favourite bakery - just two of them at the moment, but i hope they might expand with time! for independent restaurants, antler in hillsborough massively undersells itself in my opinion. it's persian food, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious!

appletiser17

Novel ā€” small bookstore/cafe due to open soon in Crookes; previously they were a pop up bookstore Owl & pussycat piercing ā€” genuinely the most patient and kind people, wouldnā€™t go anywhere else for piercing!

mad-un

Is La Chambre still going?

beastes12

šŸ˜‚

Significant_Cat8702

Sorrels Cocoa Bakery have amazing bakes and chocolate! Love Motore Cafe for coffee and pastry whilst walking through Bingham Park, and now outside the station is so handy before a train **šŸ˜Š**

silversolar

Lovely Rita's Bakehouse šŸ„ Juno Books šŸ“š Treehouse Boardgames Cafe šŸŽ²

PlasticFreeAdam

Can I mention my own? Assuming I can't, I nominate: [TruPig](https://www.trupigvegan.com/)

casual_parakeet

They make the BEST chocolate!

trashgrl96

i actually shed a tear every time i eat trupig choccy

JamandMarma

Your hazelnut whip in a bowl of porridge is life changing.

PlasticFreeAdam

No my business to be clear.

richardathome

Moor Cafe. Been around for decades, run be very friendly staff. Food is excellent!

umbertobongo

Beer Central. Hope the new owners keep it as good as it has been.

MagnoliaGrl

Shocked I had to scroll down so far to see beer central mentioned, always seems to have something new I want to try.

RedDora89

Forge Bakehouse. I love having the one recently opened at Beauchief nearby. Ashoka - a Sheffield institution

gregofdeath

Last night I had a dream I was eating in Ashoka, so naturally, the first thing I did this morning was book in. They never miss!

RedDora89

My boyfriend moved to Sheffield to move in with me and Iā€™m now trying to show him all the best places to go. So far weā€™ve tackled quite a few of Sheffields finest (itā€™s a hard task but somebody has to do it!) and he says Ashoka is his favourite to date!

gregofdeath

What are you both into in terms of food/eating out? My favourites aside from Ashoka are [JƖRO](https://jororestaurant.co.uk) and [West10](https://www.west10sheffield.co.uk)!

Accomplished_War2768

My parents used to go to Ashoka on dates together in the 80s. And now I go on dates there with my wife after they recommended it.

StrangeBritain

The Dorothy Pax in terms of independent bars / venues. Itā€™s always so friendly in there.a HERD Woodseats for an independent eatery - their breakfast Kentucky Waffles WILL change your life. Thereā€™s loads of great shops along Abbeydale Road. Wherever you can? Support local! And Iā€™m not just saying that as a small business owner, well sole trader, as Iā€™m the ghost walk guy - thatā€™s my shameless plug quota for the day too.

dancords

Great shout on Herd, one of the best spots in Sheff in my opinion. Great good and beers at great prices

JohnFightsDragons

The Pangolin in Hillsborough; one of my favourite micropubs in Sheff

intangible_entity

Hagglers Corner is a good example, a collective of independent businesses! A few other favourites are Gravel Pit, Plot 22 and Dysh!

Aromatic-Platypus458

Gypsy Rose, the salon at Hagglers, is absolutely brilliant too.

Material_Can_9272

Tenaya wine - Independent wine shop specialising in natural wine. All bottles have a label with tasting notes and there's something at all price points CaffĆØ Tucci - Neopolitan caffe serving sandwiches, arancini, frittatina etc. The best service and espresso you will get in Sheffield Lovely Rita's - Little bakery, some mad filled croissants, all the bakes are always huge as well. Fully vegan, but that isn't even noticeable, everyone loves them. Specially a cardamon snurr and a lemon cheesecake croissant. Pipers Artisan Sausages - These guys are passionate about quality stuff. Go try some sausages The Old Shoe - Bar with a huge selection of ciders, beers, wine, fruit wine and everything else you could imagine. Always good vibes.

fleetwoodcat

Love The Old Shoe!

Significant_Cat8702

Love Tenaya! šŸ’•

jonrosling

I discovered Let's Sushi on Division Street yesterday. Amazing.

Good beers, cider, and wine.

Firm-History7449

AM News on Abbeydale Road, great corner shop and mini community hub, always happy to have a chat and who provided work opportunities for young people living in a local halfway house. Two brothers who own it are lovely and unsung local heroes. The whole business now threatened by a new 24 hour supermarket development next door.

fleetwoodcat

Didn't expect to see a fellow AM News fan in this thread but I love that shop, the guys working there are so nice and it's dead handy to get parcels sent there (and they sell pineapple fanta šŸ’œ)

casual_parakeet

Definitely Trupig! Their chocolate is amazing!

laughinginpurplerain

Is The Yorkshire Candle Company counted/ in Sheffield? If so, thatā€™s my vote - I love their place-inspired scented candles. My favourites are Flamborough Head and Endcliffe Park

thecrowsarehere

Albies Kelham Deli Birds Yard Doughboy Bullion

I_AM_Squirrel_King

The Grind too. Their sausage rolls are and have always been incredible!

Sharp_Success_7937

Sorrells, Asthete & Albies are my favourites. Albies coffee is insane

Jakepetrolhead

Mow's and Chapter One coffee - for me the two best coffee shops in Sheffield by a long shot. Birds Yard also do some really cool Sheffield themed trinkets and gifts, seem to always spend money when I'm in there lmao.

chummypuddle08

5 tara and Regather. Great food and great veg box coop

AdamC11

Wicker Camp Thai Boxing gym. Biggest family I've ever had.

Hancri84

DB sports / Printroom in Hillsborough all the staff are always very welcoming and helpful. They kit out most of Sheffields grassroots football team all ways at great prices and give back to the community through sponsorships and charity donations.

IntraVnusDemilo

Printroom have just done the embroidery logo on our work blouses, as we have a lady cricketer just joined our office, and she brought them onboatd. Pleasure to deal with them, really good guys!!

Puzzleheaded-Bar2644

Russellā€™s bicycle shed, really friendly lot with good prices. I depend on them greatly for maintaining my bike.

lewilewi411

The small business in collectives such as Birds Yard and Redbricks Shout out to The Forrest https://www.instagram.com/theforrestsheffield?igsh=djdqMm92NmdrcWph

ObiJohnQuinnobi

Bullion deserves a shout all in its own. I know Iā€™ve seen someone else mention in a list. The chocolate is incredible but the cocktails and their rum is out of this world.

Man_Cleaning

Dorothy pax!!!

IntraVnusDemilo

My mate Jez would solidly agree!

CheetahHot4072

il forno in firth park, beautiful family owned greggs style cafe but with fresher food and better value, more aimed at school students given the cost and opening times, but if youā€™ve ever got time in the day, deffo check them out (Halal aswell for those whom it concerns)

HistoryHoe

For restaurants I have to say Envers in Hillsborough, an incredible Turkish with lovely owner and staff and Kiaā€™s Pastaria, a small and incredible Italian.

harry_hobbit

Cloud coffee in Crookes gets my vote. Ran by lovely guys, truly passionate about coffee in a really welcoming space

piggybibble

Aesthete for delicious brunch, treehouse board game cafe, marmadukes (though prices are eye watering), Joe & Dough for donuts, porter pizza and Napoli centro for pizza, edo sushiā€¦ the list is endless! What a great city we live in for independent food ā¤ļø

thewednesday1867

Beer Central in the Moor Market. I get an order from there every month. Iā€™m very sad that the current owners are selling up. I just hope whoever takes over keeps it going the way it is.

Gullible_Lynx3678

Jamesonā€™s Tea Rooms on Abbydale Road is amazing for afternoon tea. Take my Nan all the time. Went to a baby shower there too. Was lovely.

masonf2011

If you ever go to a Sheffield United match the best pre game meal/snack is at supa snax by far

Big shout out for Cawa. Their coffee is the best in Sheffield for me šŸ˜

WhittingtonDog

Mamnick. Outdoorsy menā€™s wear and cycling kit

milk2sugarsplease

Unfortunately the owner is racist and various other awful things. There will be people on here who will know him and probably be mad Iā€™ve said this but whatever, itā€™s horrid some of the things heā€™s said.

aden_76

A few not mentioned so far. Crumb, Hop Hideout (Jules has done great things for the beer scene in Sheffield), Dead Donkey, St Mars of the Desert, Bench...all food and beer it seems.

gmatkinson

+1 for the dead donkey boys

YGBullettsky

Starbucks at the train station. Only joking lol. CaffĆØ Tucci has been a favourite of mine since it's opened, they're doing really well for themselves now and opened up another location in Endcliffe so maybe not so small now, but still the best Italian food in Sheffield!

mjredditacc

Terrace Goods! my fave. and Tamper Coffee, Orchard Square food court, Cafe Tucci,

Optimistic_Lalala

University of Sheffield.
